Lukla departure - Cockpit view

- Hop on board as we go through the departure from Lukla, Nepal.
We are flying a PAC750 XSTOL. We have just dropped off our load of cargo and now head back to Ramechhap. Take off is a lot simpler than landing, though care must be taken during your take off roll - compressor stalls are more common at these higher altitudes, particularly if too aggresive with engine controls.
The sky is clear, winds are calm and we've beaten the morning rush!
Footage was taken pre pre pre pre covid - in 2014 😁

I said this before but will make these two points again!
1. Amazing video with superb narration
2. Thank you for not using music!
The companion video of this plane and these two gentlemen flying into Lukla is absolutely first rate and highly recommended.
Absolute respect for pilots who can fly over mountains and to airports like this
The red highlighting really added to the quality of the video. Very enjoyable. Nice work.
I Love your Videos :D thank you so much for sharing these with the world
Thank You so much for the amazing video. GREAT view
That looks like an amazing place to fly!
Nepali people are absolutely the kindest people I've ever met.
This is a great video, thanks for sharing your perspective good luck with your future endeavours!
Good on you mate. Great videos of Lukla Landing and Take-Offs!
Another great video. Thanks ;)
Thanks for the snap shot of your flying.
Admirations to you‼️👌🏽😍👍🏽
Great video.. enjoyed precise and informative narration.
What an amazing place to work.. That view..every day
Good stuff! You got yourself a nice job :)
Thanks for the flight, that was fun. I’ve watched many of these Lukla vids. I just assumed there would be fuel available. That you have to carry everything you need for the trip out and back plus reserves helps to drive home the extreme rural-ness out there.
Ah the good 'ol days, when we could go places
yeah........
Never again will we fly to these places.
Great memories
@@hudson7354 it's up to ALL OF US to fight for & reclaim our INALIENABLE FREEDOMS.
2:05 "Lukla... ...will pass wind..." Interesting!
I find ATC are highly professional when it comes to passing wind.
That they are! 😂
You mean, i think?
@@ahmadheikal2740 I used 'I find' to show the opinion comes from first hand experience. Rather than an outside perspective.
Flawless execution. (Except for the sunnies.)
Beautiful!
👍👍👍👊👊
Great footage.
Thank you for the info.
wow!! so quick take off.
Dude, fantastic stuff. You deserve a lot more subs.
I particularly appreciate the "MS Paint" annotations.
Cheers mate appreciate it. I'm all about the "high tech" digital graphics 😉 🤣
Excellent Mate!
YES...Enjoyed from Sri Lanka. Gaddy............
Well Done!
Cheers!
How come that I didn't find this channel earlier? Your videos are awesome!
just awesome.......Finn
Thank you for sharing
👏 Fantastic
Hi ginbo burgess! you manage to fly lukla to ramechhap, one of the remote country side and mountain side of Nepal .we hope you enjoyed and tq for nice vedio.
Good job mate
Hey Jimbo have you got a bio of your flight career to date? It would be great to hear how you went from flying in Nepal to top dressing back in NZ.
Hey mate, that's a great idea. I'll see what I can do 😁 Thanks for the input, I really appreciate it 👍
Pass wind :) subtle (sensed the restraint of your laugh) 😄
No room for error...none !!
Very cool 😎
Fantastic
2:09 Did you say they will "pass wind"? That's a service one doesn't see everywhere!
I'm glad a few of yous got it ;-)
Lukla requires all the thrust you can manage!
No worries with wake turbulence at this airstrip?
no flight controls check before departure? maybe not in SOP! thanks for the video
Good spotting. No excuses for missing DVAs!
...estaría interesante colocar un par de cámaras adicionales, una sobre el tren de aterrizaje para ver hacia el frente y otra en la parte trasera para ver lo que se deja atrás !!!
Kiwi trained pilots are on a class of their own. I myself am enrolled in a cpl course in nz .Can't wait for the border to open up.
i had no clue there were other aircraft besides the twin otter and do 228 that were qualified to go there.
Two 👍👍 Up !!
Fantastic :-) :-)
Cheers 🍻
👍👍👍
Looks amazing but did you say the flight centre “pass wind?”
😉🤣
What is the most common rpm setting for cruise?
They don't give clearences though they will pass wind? (2.06) Did have a giggle.Interesting clip non the less
Flying over mountain ranges such as this takes a special breed of aviator, weather patterns can be moving away when you take off. But once your in route things can change very fast. For you are the angels that bring goods and supplies to people that need them. You are greatly appreciated!
Your videos on Lukla are the best! Is your dominant hand on the stick or the throttle?
Cheers. I'm right handed and prefer to fly right hand on stick, left on throttle. It's the opposite here though
How did the accident in 2019 happen? Were the wheels misaligned somehow at takeoff?
I think it had to do with them not keeping a hand on the throttle levers, with one lever throttling back during the roll and leading to the plane swerving off the runway.
The report says something very similar to this. Asymmetric thrust occurred but they could not determine exactly how or why
Lovley video, but can i say that i really don't like how the screws sticks out on the white instrument backboard, but hey if it flys it flys
1:47 when "rolling" can't be more suited
Yeah, literally rolling down the runway!
Whats the go around procedure at Lukla? I'm guessing touch and go's are not a thing there? :)
Haha you are correct, no touch and go's! Check this video out, it has the approach and go-around procedure 😁 ruclips.net/video/1tC1h1ZCuV0/видео.html surprisingly and unusually you turn up valley on a go-around. There's more room to turn around 👍
@@JimboBurgess That’s an incredible approach. No idea how it works so well. Do you recall your first PF role into Lukla? Must have been daunting but amazing. Very nice.
@@Cralis1 Can't say I remember specifically the first, but certainly is humbling to be one of the few signed off (and eventually sign off other pilots) to land at the "most dangerous airport in the world" 🤠
@@JimboBurgess So, no late go-arounds then. Once you're past a certain point you're committed? In that respect (only) I guess it resembles St Barts or Courchevel.
P.S. The PAC750 looks remarkably like a grown-up Fletcher FU24. Those things have been around, like, forever. One of the few agricultural aircraft that doesn't look horrible.
I have a couple of questions. Why does Lukla exist? Is it b/c it has proximity and view of Mt. Everest? Why so much air traffic...tourists? How did they get all the building material to that remote location to build the town like it is?
Yes, no view of Everest though. Yes. Mostly flown in 👍
Which year was this. I am a frequent user of Lukla airport for the past 35 years. Single engine planes were banned a few years ago.
I only had the oppertunity to fly Lukla to Ramechap once.
Around 2014 😎
How many trips in a day can you fly into and out of Lukla? You have nerves of steel.
Is this piper? And we want to see your plane external figure before you start. You know!
what is the plane model?
Gez boy you get around, orsom
What airline did you fly for, and do they still operate the pc-750xstol?
Air Kasthamandap 🚀
Gee Jimbo, what do you do if engine failure on takeoff there (single engine)? Back in the 80's here in Canberra my instructor had a saying: "Land straight ahead for the hospital or turn back for the morgue". But at Lukla . . . ?
No turning back on this one!
@@JimboBurgess But no straight ahead options either, right? Any flat land at all down in the valley? I doubt it.
Are you a Kiwi? If so, you guys are at home in the mountains! :)
Mt Cook highest point in NZ , 12,316 ft. Lumpy but not high.
Late breaking comment: your videos would be much improved if the canopy strut wasn't blocking the view of he runway on approaches. I suggest a modest left or right offset.
OMG, if you are an engine failure, what do you do ?
Why still using PNF instead of PM?
I don’t know how you even got it in the air without you shades.
I know, right?!
Does the cockpit have any pressurization?
No pressurisation in these aircraft 🚀
@@JimboBurgess Wow, don't hold your breath, I flew a Rollason Condor many years ago but was restricted to 4000 ft because of civil aircraft....
Enjoy seeing Lukla. All memory? As you advance your career in larger equipment you will learn about the concept of a checklist.
What Kind of airplane do you fly?...
Looked like a modified Fletcher Utility 24.
One place where you don't want an engine problem in flight. I would always bring extra underwear if I was flying into this place.
@2.12 "tower will pass wind" 😂
It reminds me a bit about taking off from Admiral Kuznetsov. But here it is somewhat... reversed :D
It’s the Gateway to mount Everest
Qué turbo prop, es
Plane model?
what is the plane model?
Hoo roo
such a Kiwi thing... my nanna would say it all the time. I make a point of using it also, just so it doesn't die out! Glad to hear a fellow pilot using it...
Is he using a check list and not a head list !!!
I can take off on flight sim 2020 with a a320 with 10% fuel and pay load
ok
Sunnies? Are you Aussie, or something?
Even better, a kiwi 🥝 🇳🇿 😁
I eat kiwis sometimes
I would love to have you flying at our company. You seem to be a pretty decent fellow.
Cheers mate, appreciate the kind words 😁
Now you can't get this aircraft bcoz of crashed
I wonder if they built the airplane around that pilot... 😀
Lukla is nothing compared to crop dusting in New Zealand!
I understood one big secret for all pilots taking off from lukla airport, and it is at first accelarate your plane as finally as you can, and then, let your plane run at the highest speed, and while reach the maximud speed for flight, hold up your plane and take care to crush the mountains sorroundind the airport, and in landing time, check your air controller's order, if your runway is free or not, because its busy airport usually, take care, lukla is another pilot experience test
As fascinating as it is, I'm surprised how a pilot, after all his hard work training, would risk his life on every flight over a mountainous area like this, in a single engine aeroplane. If that engine fails, there is a pretty good chance that he would not survive.
Anyone can take off from there, it's landing which takes skill.
Its so old aircraft....new aircraft should be buy ....
You cannot purchase old aircraft in Nepal, it is the law 😎
@@JimboBurgess I know because i am from Nepal...but its dangerous for travellers ..
please stop hearting my comments and just answer my question
I'm ganna be honest, I considered hearting this comment too 😂
The answer can be found by following the series of clues I offer you. Each one is more difficult than the previous.
Your first clue is 0:10
Goodluck 😁
@@JimboBurgess hahaha🤣🤣, i most humbly apologize!🤦♂️🤦♂️
