- Y'all told me from the beginning that Saw 6 was one of the best but you didn't tell me the last 30 minutes would be the MOST INSTENSE SAW TRAPS AND TWIST! This movie is freakin' awesome but I almost had a break down by the end of it. The twist with Amanda and Hoffman was incredible and I can't believe they set it up way back in Saw 3! I loved seeing Hoffman go through the reverse Bear trap to FINALLY get tested. And wow, the CAROUSEL trap is one of my favorites so far in the Saw Franchise! Overall, this is probably my favorite games so far. I'll be watching Saw 7 ASAP to see how the story ends and then we will finally see SAW X!

I’ve waited until this moment to say this, because I didn’t wanna spoil his importance.. but Hoffman is the fucking man! 😁 I swear, I haven’t seen anyone root for Hoffman like this since my friends and I went to the midnight showing of Saw VI in theaters in 2010. No joke, the four of us were sitting there cheering like crazy when he survived the trap, it was awesome.

He did a great job.
Some historical context; this movie came out while the Affordable Care Act was still a hot-button issue. Prior to passage of the ACA, insurance companies could indeed deny you coverage for pre-existing conditions as we saw in this movie. The fact that all of the people in this game getting mauled by the traps were health insurance employees made the movie INCREDIBLY cathartic for a lot of viewers.
I already knew this but I think this is what stands the saw franchise out from other horror movies. It takes real issues like this one and brings awareness to it. Although it may be a gory way of doing it, I think it does it exceptionally well especially here.
Amanda: Get used to me, cause i'm not going anywhere.
Hoffman: You died three movies ago, this is just a flashback.

Hoffman: I said, you sure about that?
It’s safe to say Hoffman has the strongest will to live out of everyone else in these movies.
I think I can agree with that. Dude had a unwinnable trap and still survived… and I have a feeling he isn’t very happy about it 😂

Hoffman surviving the reverse bear trap is one of my favourite scenes in the whole franchise. Talk about the will to live!
Agreed. One of my favorite scenes without a doubt!! So cleaver and him screaming like a maniac after his face getting ripped was a perfect ending. I bet people watching in theaters were shook
The funny thing is that Hoffman and John clearly have a different style to their voice tapes. I love Hoffman, but he could never top that chilling, sinister laugh of John Kramer. Like in Saw 2, "It's like finding a needle in a haystack, huhuhuhu..."
I love this movie . The trap plot is really interesting, Hoffman turns into the Hoffmanitor and all the flashbacks again with John are pure gold especially " Piranha " 😂
The game in this one is so good because it’s not just William having to survive, but he has to choose who lives. Such a twisted way to realize your job sucks lol. Hoffman was a beast but now idk if I’m team Hoffman like I was in 5… what he did to Amanda was wild so I’m interested to see how he acts in Saw 3D!
The line delivery of Piranha is one of the greatest cinematic treasures on this earth hahaha!

This is my 2nd favourite SAW movie. I love William going through each test and having to decide who lives just like he does behind a desk. Also, this movie has one of the best endings with Hoffman surviving the reverse bear trap 2.0 in an epic way. Hoffman is a beast.
Agreed, one of the most entertaining games and Hoffman pulling off the reverse bear trap is just icing on the cake! Now that he’s been tested, I’m wondering how he will act in Saw 3D… dude has half his face ripped off so I’m sure he’s not happy 😂
This is my favorite main character of the trap plot because if he lived he would have been a perfect example of rehabilitation for John
I think he for sure learned his lesson by the end hahaha! He probably would’ve needed decades of psycho therapy but I could see him being a hippie once he escaped… too bad that never happened 😬

Amanda's issue was that her traps were impossible to win.
Hoffman's issue is that his traps were made to cause as most pain as possible, so even if players win they would be so traumatized it could be impossible for them to learn anything, unlike Kramer's traps that were more mild in terms of gore.

An interesting fact - the actress who cut off her hand at the beginning of the film got this role after winning the Scream Queen TV show.
I remember that reality show.
Imagine waiting a year between each release (or sometimes even more) to get that sweet plot twist at the end.
Makes the series feel more like a soap opera than an actual movie but god damn it's so good and so satisfying when the pieces fit together.
Oh I would’ve died but I think it’s awesome they had a new Saw movie every year (for the most part). Really makes me want to see one in theaters with a crowd one day. Maybe with Saw 11 lol

With the gusts of wind , moving chairs and small squirts of water in the scenes where blood was dripping ... Just glorious.
Saw would have been Hella successful if it was a show
as for the carousel scene (also one of my favorite traps) what i love is, he saved the woman with children but for his final decision when there was only two people left he put his hand in before the carousel even stopped. he decided not to make a decision at all and let the carousel decide for him.
Saw 6 is easily a Top 3 in the franchise
Everything about it was done so well
From the storytelling, from William Eastons test, his policy being used against him in most of his traps to see the errors in his ways. The traps from beginning to end were the best the franchise has seen thus far. Hoffman in the interrogation audio file scene was brilliantly done in my opinion.
I could go on and on but yeah easily a fan favorite since Saw 2!!!

Fun Fact: Karen Cliche was pregnant while shooting the "Shotgun Carousel" trap.
Scream Queen Fact: VH1's reality show Scream Queens (2008) winner Tanedra Howard won a role for this film. She plays Simone.
Legal Eagle Fact: While it is used as a plot point for the film, an insurance company cannot void coverage for seeking an alternative "non-traditional" therapy. They don't have to pay for it, but it cannot be grounds to void coverage.
Cold Outside Fact: Director Kevin Greutert mentioned in the commentary track that the twitching and shivering Amanda (Shawnee Smith) does in her scenes with Cecil (Billy Otis) was real due to low temperatures and rain in Toronto at the time of filming. Shawnee couldn't stop shivering because she was cold and they were shooting outdoors.
The show Scream Queens was amazing!!!! 🙌🏻 I felt like a proud momma when I saw Tanedra in this movie. 🥺
This one shocked me on how it became one of my favorites! Like him or not it cannot be denied how much of a badass Hoffman is when they discover his voice! The hot coffee as a weapon was GENIUS!
Seeing him plan out his attack while they passively blame him as the killer is one of the best suspenseful scenes in the franchise. I am curious how he will act in Saw 7, but as of now I still like Hoffman. Dude is too badass to die lol
I was shook! The hot coffee splash was so small yet clever. He knew they were on his tail and came prepared with the throat slash!

When you get to saw X the choice William made to deny John will be put in perspective. He was a terrible person yes but Saw X makes it look like he was trying to help which is sad

Out of all of the police procedural scenes in the Saw series, the one where Hoffman gets got on tape is my second favorite (#1 is Tapp and Singh raiding Jiggy's lair in the first movie). The tape slowly unscrambling in the background and getting closer to Hoff's real voice really built up the tension, plus that line which contantly reminds him the walls are closing in: "Right now you're feeling helpless..."
The bit I loved is how as they get closer to figuring it out, you see Hoffman pacing around, noting where sharp objects are, picking up a cup of scalding coffee...and the minute Erickson mentions "another possibility", his shoulders relax and he puts the coffee down. As soon as Erickson goes back to his original line of thought though, the coffee's back in hand.

WHEW i loooove saw 6. the "right now you're feeling helpless" scene is such a cleverfully choreographed scene. he's pacing, he's trapped, and it's his own voice repeating to him "right now, you're feeling helpless." it's just such a cool scene although i'm so sad we lost perez the minute we got her back lol
amanda is such a tragic character, and it all ties back to her. she really did see john as a father and, in her mind, dying was better than being potentially "disowned" by him. in the original scripts, it's stated that she was abused and neglected by her father when she was a kid and her whole life has just been traumatic event after traumatic event, only to end in a really tragic death. even in her last moments, she's reaching out to john, who really has done nothing but hurt her over and over. really unexpectedly heavy stuff from a horror franchise that's predominantly known for its gore. she's definitely one of the most realistic, human characters we come across.
i also loooove the dynamic between john/mark/amanda. truly they are siblings. they definitely threw wrenches at each other. a lot of people like to think (as a headcanon) that hoffman saw a little bit of his sister, angelina, in amanda and it frightened him, which is why he's so disdainful towards her.
saw 7 is definitely a good wrap-up for the story! i will say it lacks in the main game, unlike this movie, but it's otherwise pretty solid! and the ending is wilddddd.
i think youll absolutely love saw x. it gives a lot more insight to our characters and really goes back to the franchise's roots.
Theres some kind of poetry in Jigsaw going after an insurance company. A sadistic poetry, yes, but still. Hoffman doesn't go down without a fight.
I loved that he was targeting the insurance company because they really are out here deciding who lives or dies. Messed up for sure.
And Hoffman is just a freakin Boss in these streets. He refuses to lose, and for that I love him

William Easton - the best protagonist the audience ever followed through the "getting through the traps" plot, because it seemed like he really learned his lesson...if Jigsaw had let him live. This movie humanizes John more than most not only because we see him before he became what he was but also because we see that not even he lives up to the lofty moral standards he sets for everyone else. Why is his acrimony towards William - a man who represented everything he hated in life - okay, but Jeff's scorn towards the people involved in the death of his son isn't? I've always thought Jigsaw wanted him to die - there were two solid chances to pull that lever from either the mother OR the son - "rehabilitation" be damned. I don't think John ever wanted to rehabilitate Cecil either.
And yes, that Shotgun Carousel scene is amazing and is more memorable than the two whole movies that preceded it.
Saw X has a post credit scene. So if u watch the movie dont end it when the movie ended. There is only 1 post credit scene anddd its totally worth it
With all of my comments said, there were some minor issues. Perez really disappointed me in this one. She basically came back just to die. And not like how Strahm or even Eric got it.
She and Erickson continued to trap and corner Hoffman like an animal, despite the fact they KNEW beforehand that Hoffman was the person they were looking for. I think what I resented the most was that they didn't even have a backup plan at all! It was just them and some random female worker. They didn't have no extra security or nothing. I kind of knew that Erickson was a bit of a dumb dumb but Perez really took the cake for me. I expected more from her and she let me down badly. I remember being both shocked and angry how she went out. So disappointing. Oh shit... since you watched unrated version, you missed the post credit scene. It showed Amanda going to Jeff and Lynn's daughter, telling her not to trust the one who will save her. Which was Hoffman and why the FBI was not fully trusting Hoffman.
Oh hell yeah man! 6 is a fan favorite and now you're about to understand why.
Pretty much everything about it is perfect. The characters, the story, the themes of politics, the traps are all amazing and the musical score by Charlie Clouser is sublime as usual.
In fact, I think there is not one trap I didn't like in this one. All of them were great. I think most of the people in William's tests did not truly deserved it other than maybe most of the people in the carousel room. Speaking of William, I do find him quite interesting and find the relationship with John profound. While I'm sure most of us, myself included, HATED him at first, but slowly throughout the movie, we start to actually root for him and WANT him to win! Also we have to give William credit for being the only main character to actually saved the most people in his film. Not many before or since then has been able to save that many people. He ain't like slow ass Jeff or dumb dumb Rigg.
The ending is where things got wild. 6 is the film that turned my dislike of Amanda into outright contempt or disdain due her role in turning John into Jigsaw in the first place.
Meaning that so many people have died, herself included, all because she wanted her FIX!
Not only that, but the twist of the people we thought were William's family wasn't his!
His family was Pamela, the female reporter from the last film. I felt bad that she had to watch her brother die like that and there was not a thing she could to stop it! The other crazy part was that John's message to Hoffman about him not being untested came back to bite him in the ass. John kind of knew that he was a problem but wanted him to still have what it takes to survive and boy... he DID. With him escaping that upgraded bear trap was fucking badass.
Before I talk about this movie I wanted to say that Strahm's death in 5 is the only death that makes me squirm
This movie is amazing and it focusing on health care was a good idea. Good thing they brought the director of this movie back to make Saw X. The shotgun carousel is one of the highlight traps of this movie. Can't wait to see more of these reactions when they drop.
My favorite Saw movie by far, with the carousel my favorite trap in the franchise. I especially loved William’s arc and character growth throughout the game, and it’s such a shame he didn’t get to survive because he was one of the best protagonists.
Agreed, William would have probably done a lot of good if he went back to work as the Head of the insurance company. More people would’ve gotten their treatment and he honestly didn’t have that many wounds so… he probably would have had it best out of all the survivors. His mental state would’ve been in shambles though.

Glad you enjoyed it! The issue with this version of the movie Vs the theatrical cut is in this version the William needle rack and Hoffmans bear trap cut back and forth repeatedly, kind of muddling the tension.
In the theatrical, Williams death plays out, which lets people get the full shock of what happens to him, then it cuts to Jill activating the bear trap on Hoffman and him escaping, which plays much more intense as one scene without cuts
After a mentally draining day Cole, you just made my night!
(Also, the girl at the beginning won that role on Scream Queens, to star in the movie of Saw 6!)

“Fuck that” one of the most relatable things I’ve heard in these movies, one reason why Easton is probably my favorite protagonist
I will never forgive Hoffman for basically killing Amanda, John and dr. Lynn.....Hoffman felt more entitled to the legacy. The Real letter from John to Amanda is online if you're interested and it is actually really sweet and showed that John really was on Team Amanda, loved her and believed in her
"Believing in" a junkie is one of the stupidest things you can do in life.
I will absolutely go read that letter because Hoffman did her dirty. He is the domino that got them all killed in Saw 3, and now I can’t forgive him for that… but damn he’s such a beast I have to cheer him on slightly lol. He just refuses to lose and I love that. The shotgun carousel trap is one of my favorites cause it’s so psychologically disturbing. Imagine waking up in a device, knowing you have only a 33% chance of surviving and the only way to survive is to plead for your life to your boss. Some of the best traps in the series aren’t overly reliant on gore, at least in my opinion.
Glad you enjoyed this one, I’m personally not a fan of the next few entries but curious to know how you’ll feel about them.
Fun fact: This was the lowest grossing of the original 7 Saw films. It only made 68 million at the box office. Saw 7 was originally going to be split into two parts but due to the disappointing box office of Saw 6 they decided to make it just one movie. Years later Spiral would go on to take the crown of the lowest grossing Saw film, only grossing 40 million at the box office.
Go back and watch the post credits scene! (It's only on the unrated version, which is the one you watched).

It was a hell of a good experience watching him going through the emotional roller coaster like we went through when we first watched the movie. Especially on the twist parts. Saw is a very successful Horror franchise but very underrated and misunderstood for torture porn. Excited for Saw XI.
If you want to see a film that technically shares the same universe as the Saw franchise, I recommend Dead Silence. it might not be the greatest film to see, and the plot is predictable, but it will still scare you, Cole. Trust me.

The wall closing in in Saw V was the first time in cinema history when someone actually died onscreen from it!

That’s why I love his character so much. The fact that he planned that far ahead of his death is just insane but that’s the beauty of the flashbacks. They can add whatever they want and deepen the story. I can’t wait to see what goes down in 7, even if it seems the most mixed out of all the comments. The carousel scene is just one of those SAW scenes that has no business being so well acted and choreographed. Instead of spinning the camera around the victim, the victim themselves are spinning. At the end, it's a very nice touch that he doesn't even look at them for the 2nd button push; it's as if he doesn't even want to make this choice anymore, he can't live with the consequences. That final gaze of pity to fulfill a dying man's final wish, and then that man's face goes from anger to pure terror instantly right before he dies. Really impressive stuff coming from everybody there in that scene.
I've been loving going on this ride with ya so far! Saw is one of my all-time favorite franchises, each one has something to love about it! Also been loving The Quarry streams! Keep up the awesome work dude!! 😊

This movie definitely is an improvement from saw v. I like the idea of putting a man from the insurance company something many ppl can relate to, the traps are definitely an improvement from saw v, the gore is great had more than saw v, it has a great twist, I liked more Jill involvement, and this was a very personal game to jigsaw. The negatives Hoffman living, innocent ppl being put into these traps like the janitor, the older lady, the loner young man, the woman in the steam room, and the ppl on the carousel, the steam room trap made no sense like wha would’ve happen if the woman killed the mc to get the key end of the movie, the janitor was set up to fail that’s murder, while I really like the carousel trap only 2 out of 6 ppl can live, and the family of the dead father killing the mc we went through all of that just for him to die he could’ve lived to make better decisions to be in fear of being put into a trap again. It’s just murder the whole point of these traps is ppl have to live to learn a lesson. So while I can enjoy it it’s not as good as saw 2.
The girl from the opening trap won the chance to be on the show called "scream queens" (there's 2 shows w the same name) but it was such a cool and fun show. James Gunn and Amanda are the hosts 🤣

like.... that seems like a bit of a disparity
Healthcare "insurers" are far worse than any of the above.
This is my favourite film in the franchise! I love saw X too but this one is awesome, and the OG of course.
This one was always my favorite from the franchise. Fun fact, there's a Post Credit scene that that was featured on the DVD Version, but hopefully you'll get to see or check that out.

Oh man…the carousel just destroyed me!!!! But it’s incredible!!!! There’s just so many things about this movie…it’s brutal but it’s brilliant! It has certain lines like, Piranha 😁 The steam room is amazing… And I always seem to get so emotionally involved in this one… And that opening trap!!! That girl won a reality show contest for that role called Scream Queens. I watched it on RUclips and she is awesome!!! @0:19 Personally my favorite is Saw X just being released 30 days ago, and available for rent or purchase on Amazon. If functions as a prequel, and brings back Shawnee Smith (Amanda) and brings a lot of screentime with Tobin Bell. Now, the bad, IMO Spiral from the book of Saw.

This is definitely one of my favorite movies in the Saw franchise. It's incredible how the debate about health policies and the dark side of health companies escalates. Especially at the time when the movie was released and we were seeing about healthcare in the US.

I love the trap plot here, William deserves to be tested and you can see as the game go on, how he starts to go through an arc, I fully believe if he had survived he would’ve changed his policy
I also believe that if William had survived he would have become a much more caring and fair man to the needs of people experiencing health problems.
Truly would’ve been one of the people forever changed by the game, in a good way. Sad it was left to freaking Rodrick…

I felt bad for Allen tbh. The janitor didn't deserve to be there, but you could argue he was abusing himself with smoking and actively throwing away his life, but Allen didn't wasn't even doing something as minor as that. Dude looked less than 30 and jigsaw all but told William to let him die, and the only reason was "he doesn't have a big, loving family". Like dang dude, I guess being lonely/your family neglecting you is enough to warrant a brutal death. So much for "everyone deserves a chance".
Yeah that one was tough to watch. I felt terrible for Allen too.

This one is definitely one of my top favs of the franchise! Honestly, in the ending with the mom and son, they had that man stand there and just keep saying 'please' when he could have tried to reason with them more, no wonder it was so easy for the son to kill him 😂 it kinda just feels like William knew he wasn't going to survive at their hands, but he really didn't even try. It kinda felt like he KNEW he deserved it and accepted his fate but I wish it had actually shown him being a little bit rehabilitated from the awful person he was
Can't wait to see more! Saw 7 is not great for me but still a very fun watch. Jigsaw and Spiral are also fun watches so I hope yoy do them down the road!
