- Hoffman is really out here acting like the trust successor to Jigsaw in Saw 5 y'all! I actually really enjoyed the Hoffman backstory in this one but the victim's game wasn't my favorite. Strahm using the pen to do a tracheotomy on himself is the most badass move in this entire series.
Fun fact: Scott Paterson had no idea his character was going to die until he went to get a prosthetic of his arm made for the final scene, he asked the special effects team what it was for and there was a bit of an awkward silence then they told him Strahm was going to die.
Also director David Hackl’s son came up with the idea of having someone die by being crushed by walls closing in.
The pen to the throat is for sure one of the most badass moments I’ve seen in a movie. That level of quick thinking really had me think he would be the nemesis for Hoffman through the rest of these films… but I guess not lol. Hilarious Scott didn’t know he was going to die though 😂 what a way to go out. Thanks for dropping that knowledge for me and the Dork Side fam ❤️🙏
Old mate Matthew’s crushed his ankle with a ceramic toilet lid and then snapped the bottom of his leg to fit through the handcuff you have any idea how much that would hurt?
The ballpoint pen to the neck? That’s 1 hit in a soft area
The ankle was 4-5 hits plus a snap sorry but walberg wins most badass
@@blink1821986 Matthew’s breaking his foot to escape is definitely on the list of badass moves. I’ll still give it to Strahm though, his head was already basically underwater and a tracheotomy is usually done by a medical professional, it would be pretty easy to mess up. Being able to do it on yourself while you’re actively drowning puts his badass move at the top, in my opinion.
I love how Hoffman used John's advice in anticipating the human mind to get the best of Straum
Perfect call back for sure! That’s why I love Hoffman right now… he actually followed Jigsaw’s advice and come out on top because of it!
Tobin Bell's reading of *that line* always cracks me up. It's supposed to be "Killing is distasteful. To me, there is a better way."
Instead he reads it as "Killing is distasteful...to me. There is a better way."
That is hilarious hahaha! It was such a unique delivery so I’m happy to know Tobin is just out here doing what he wants and getting away with it 😂

Saw 5 the most underrated in the franchise
Agreed, I really enjoyed it and the payoff at the end was crazy!
Here's another fun fact for you: The house that Strahm follows Hoffman to at the end of the film is the same house that the game from Saw 2 was being played in. The only difference here is that it has been entirely refurbished, showing that Hoffman has been living there sometime after the events of Saw 2. The layout of the "wake up room" with the trap door is the exact same, just with furniture and looking nicer.
Also you can see the bathroom door with the blood trail from dr Gordon in the basement
I loved being back at the house! It’s cool that the same set pieces keep getting used throughout the franchise. It just makes every movie feel that much more familiar. I did notice the furniture was nice when Strahm opening the basement door but I didn’t connect that Hoffman was living there! Great insight as always my friend! I always enjoy your comments 🙏
Originally Jeff was planned to play a second game to try to rescue her daughter and he would lose that game. But the script was changed and that's why he gets killed in Saw IV despite Kramer talks about playing another game in Saw III. It is one of the few inconsistencies in the Saw Saga.
I was kinda shook to see freakin Jeff just dying immediately after Saw 3. It seems like everyone hated Jeff so maybe it was for the better lol. I’m sure it’s hard to keep this continuously growing story straight, so if Jeff is one of the inconsistencies, I’ll let it slide 😂

Hoffman definitely is the better one out of the jigsaw apprentices. He's smart and cunning.. plus, he allows people to escape the traps, unlike Amanda, and that one trap he used for Vendetta, but that was rectified by Jigsaw and made him a more honest man. People get Hoffman twisted. Yes, he will kill people, but that's because they're on to him, and he needs to finish the traps jigsaw gave him. Either way, it's going to be very divisive about hoffman.
I love how straight to the point this movie is and has the best traps. I'd say this is the goriest Saw of the bunch, in my opinion.
Also Hoffman might be still alive cause in film when they cut to black, It means that the person hasn't died. They left 7's ending very open to Hoffman being alive. He's cunning enough to escape the revers bear trap, so he could easily break his ankle to escape the bathroom.

I love him so far and I’m hoping it stays that way!
he's also a great contrast to jigsaw. amanda was great too (there is some suggestion that it was hoffman making the impossible games not amanda. hoffman blackmailed her and when she yells at jigsaw to rescue her it takes on a different meaning). honestly it's part of why the spinoffs didn't really take off. the copycat and apprentice just... weren't that compelling...

This one is easily my favorite aside from the first one. I love how they developed Hoffman and as well as his relationship with John. I love how it shows how he really learned from John in anticipating the human mind, slowly turning everything against Strahm. I really liked the Fatal Five too. As the director has stated in BTS stuff, it's not supposed to be some big mystery that they're supposed to work together. They're all selfish bastards and Jigsaw calls them out on it and straight up tells them to do the opposite of this "singular way of thinking." Also, I love how much Billy is in this film! The thing I love the most is the BTS of this film, particularly for the traps. They're all practical, everything actually works. Strahm was actually in that glass box filled with water. No trick photography, no cgi, no stunt actors. The pendulum trap? They actually had an actor under that pendulum and the way they filmed it with prosthetics is just brilliant.
Hoffman turned that shit around so well! Like you said, it is so cool that we get to go back to the previous films and get to see so much more of what was going on. This was definitely a Hoffman vs Strahm movie, rather than the people in the game. I think you’ll really enjoy the next film, lots more gets revealed! Keep up the great work my friend
Every new movie just makes the previous ones that much better! Hoffman playing that Uno reverse card was God tier though. Jigsaw would’ve been proud!

John and Hoffman having a buddy cop (killer?) section in this movie was so great to see. I love that Hoffman and John seemed to actually have a friendship, which is in direct contrast to Amanda worshiping John for a brief time
I saw the behind the scenes of the Cube trap with the water. The actor playing Strahm was really put sorta drowned and the reactions on his face is amazing.
Hoffman is my favorite character so it’s nice to see you actually enjoy his story. I’m so glad you’re hyped over these movies! The next one is my absolute favorite of the franchise!
I liked the Fatal Five game, but I feel like this movie's best traps were the bookends at the beginning and end of the movie. They were all instant Saw classics!
I agree, that pendulum was medieval as hell! But Stromboli getting crushed as Hoffman gets lowered down was one of the hardest moments of the franchise in my opinion. Great take there homie
The ending of this one had my jaw on the floor the first time I saw it. The walls closing on Strahm as Hoffman looks away and then the end credits. It gave me CHILLS, man! This is why Saw is my favorite horror franchise, it’s the only one that genuinely gets big reactions out of me!
Love watching your reactions, especially to this franchise, its always been my favorite. Not sure if anyone had posted it in the comments yet, but for fun fact: The last trap where it crushes him, was actually supposed to be flooding instead. As a reflection to his trap earlier in the film with the Drowning Box. But they found it would have been too difficult to shoot. So thats where the director's son had came up with the Crushing Walls.
The thought of getting a paper cut between my fingers is bad enough, let alone sawing my whole hand in half!

Hey, buddy! Glad to see this upload. I finally got to see SAW X in theatres. I've seen every SAW film in theatres now. No spoilers, but if you're team Jigsaw/Kramer then I think you'll enjoy it.
I also just got done seeing it...where do you think in your opinion does it land in the tier list? I personally feel like it falls somewhere around 4 and 5 but I could honestly see a strong argument for it being 3rd best

Many people hate the later movies for it 😢❤
Also as pointed out, one of the themes of the movie was supposed to be about teamwork.
Each of the people that were tested were mostly selfish and only really thought about themselves besides Mallick, who showed genuine remorse for his actions since he didn't know that people were living in the building that they burned down.
In the first room, they only needed one key and pass it along to each other. In the second room, more than one person can fit into those chambers. In the third room, they each needed to hold one cable and suffer a small electric shock and in the last room, they would had suffered far less injury and still offered enough blood in order to escape. No one needed to die but work together. That's what John meant when he said:
"Your life-long instincts will tell you to do one thing... but I implore you: to do the opposite."

I don't love Saw 5, I think it's a weaker movie in the series (I think it rebounds with Saw 6 being one of the best), but if I was asked what I think is the best trap in the Saw franchise my answer would be the buzzsaw blood trap at the end of 5. It's just such a pure Saw trap. It's not about some crazy race against time, it's not a weird dexterity test, it's just "put yourself through something horribly painful and life altering to live", and it's so visceral.

This is definitely one of my favorite franchises ever now (not just horror) because of how all the movies play off each other. No reboots or alternate timelines. Just jigsaw and the games that follow!
I’m happy to watch these movies and I’m happy the Saw community has been so welcoming! I think the “torture porn” tag these movies get are unfair and definitely just people being snooty. You can tell they have never given the movies a chance.

Hoffman games here were fair. All five could have qorked together amd survived and so could have Strahm.
Hahaha, you're hilarious. I like how you root for the 'villain' as much as rooting for some people to survive! I am the same. I also love what you said about how each film gives you a little more backstory, and it makes us aware that so much was already going on before the first film, so it doesn't always even feel like backstory anymore, since it's all one big story. I quite like Saw 6 so I hope you do, too. I also am glad you stuck with the series instead of skipping to Saw X. You are getting so much out of it. I hope you also watch Spiral and Jigsaw because as much as people dump on them, I still let myself enjoy them like you do. This was a good time!

godd i'm so sad they killed off peter, he was such a smart character!! but he was getting too close. i do think mark's original plan (if peter had gotten into the box) was to essentially blackmail him into joining up as another jigsaw apprentice. there's a shot where mark is holding a syringe behind his back in that scene, which kind of leads me to believe that he was gonna wait until peter was done with the trap and then grab him. he had all the blackmail and framing lined up, he just needed peter to survive.
also!! i'm pretty certain it's implied that the drug dealer who went missing (that the trust-fund kid and the real estate lady were talking abt at the end, who was the cause of the fire) was xavier, the dealer from saw 2! it lines up storyline-wise, especially the fact that he seemingly disappeared without a trace according to the trust fund guy.
saw 6 is really really good imo! i think you'll love it. it has one of my favorite traps because it's just such a fun unique one
Peter would’ve been the perfect nemesis for Mark for sure. He got the Tapp-man treatment though and they killed his ass too early 💔 it would’ve been very interesting to see how Hoffman would’ve played the game going forward with Peter knowing… or maybe even an Eric Matthew’s situation where he just keeps him hostage throughout

@@TheDorkSideTV 8 and 9 are definitely not required before watching saw x because they don't really fit into the same timeline! jigsaw & spiral are both kind of treated as their own entities, def not needed before watching the new movie. you won't miss any references or anything
plus, saw x takes place between 1 & 2 - even if you hadn't watched 2-7, it'd still make sense although you'd miss out on character references & whatnot
so yeah, 8 & 9 are totally skippable!

Interesting Fact. In the original script of SAW V when the filmmakers were writing the SAW 4 - 6 trilogy, Strahm was supposed to survive in the last trap and continue their cat & mouse game in SAW VI & and at the end of SAW VI Strahm was supposed to kill Hoffman by putting him in a trap. But later this idea was changed to what we know as the SAW Franchise.
That cat and mouse game would’ve been so interesting but I also like Hoffman killing him and getting away. The only happy endings in the Saw franchise so far are from team Jigsaw… except Saw 3
This is why when people go what was your favorite Saw movie. I always say you can't look at them as individual movies. Because each an every single one of them are like an figuratively connected to one another. Each one explains an shows things from other movies. So you have to look at them as one story told in different chapters of books. Because each movie is not a self contained movie because it is truly connected to all the other Saw movies in the smallest of ways.
So it is like what do you mean when you ask what Saw movie. You like more because the main story is connected to all the movies. So are you asking what game or games you like more because thats. The only that is unique to each Saw movie is the games in that particular movie.
Because you can easily pick a favorite movie from say the Scream, Halloween or Nightmare on Elm Street movie franchises. Because each movie is its own self contained movie each with it's own separate story plot.
The British guy that died in the 2nd part of the game was my favorite. He may be an asshole but he had information. Also the best actor of the group game. Big missed opportunity to keep him around longer. After his death, I lost interest in the group game lol. Strahm was a freaking GOAT and Hoffman was badass as a villain.
Dude for real, that guy was so suave but he could also just murder you any second lol. He would’ve been very interesting in the final trap of the game.
And Hoffman is a beast! He might be Mr nice guy but I think Jigsaw would’ve been proud of how he finessed Strahm in the end… even though there wasn’t a lesson involved. Still, I can’t wait to see what he does in Saw 6!

When I was little, I liked all the Saw movies in general, then in my teen years, I mainly liked the first three because I was never a fan of the Hoffman era. I’m actually surprised so many people like him. After my recent Sawathon, I still don’t like him, but I’ve come to appreciate his character and the other movies a lot more, so I’m back to loving them like I did when I was a kid. And now I can tell Hoffman and Straum apart, so that’s a bonus. 😂
I think the main reason I don’t like Hoffman is because he made unbeatable traps. Like the guy who killed his sister crushed his hands and still died, and Straum was supposed to drown. I wasn’t into having a successor that didn’t play by the rules.
But also, both of those traps that Hoffman did in this movie were unbeatable, so him asking Straum on the tape if he had learned to trust him when he put two people (Straum being one of them) in unbeatable traps was some kinda audacity 😂. The glass box was not really a fair game because Hoffman didn’t prove himself as a fair host.
I think it’s funny that we had opposite favorites with this movie, what with me not liking Hoffman, but also the trust fun kid being my favorite! I loved that we had those two strong women in that game. That first girl getting rid of the journalist guy to save my trust fund kid, and then the other woman getting her in the next room also to save trust fund kid. ♥️ We love to see it 😂. No, but they were definitely smart moves because, like you briefly mentioned, the first lady knew she’d have a better chance against him than the journalist, and the second lady knew the first would do whatever it took to survive, so it was smartest to take trust fund kid to the end because he was mentally weaker and also the only one that really showed any guilt. He was the only one who was unaware of what he was actually doing by setting that fire while the others participated willingly. Also, my guy went above and beyond by sawing his whole arm in half. Kinda feel like I would’ve cut off my hand and tried to juice it just to get the worst part out of the way quick 😂. You are not about to catch me slicing between my fingies.
Anyway, I’m glad you’re enjoying how all the movies connect and that you’re continuing the series. I was so excited when you started Saw. It feels like your Scream era and Final Destination era all over again. ♥️♥️

Of all the traps in this series, the last one in this movie, I ALWAYS have trouble watching.
I think even if Strahm had gotten into the coffin Hoffman still would’ve killed him. Strahm knew too much.

That isn’t as funny 😎 I started the gag back with Insidious and I thought it was funny as hell, so I kept it for whenever a jumpscare gets my ass good 😂
While this is one of the most least favorites of the films, Saw 5 does still have some cool moments! For example, we see how Hoffman and John first met and where their relationship was build on. I do not fully condone Hoffman killing Seth but I think the dude kind of deserved it since he did kill his sister and all. Like... how do you "accidently" slid someone's throat? What a clown lol. My favorite trap in this one was the water box trap that Strahm was in. What's ironic is that trap was supposed to be inescapable and yet, Strahm survived it! Hoffman didn't see that one coming at all. When they were shooting that scene, the actor who plays Strahm had to actually be under water and was close to really drowning a few times. That's why they had paramedics to make sure nothing bad happened.
Also fun little fact: the crushing room that had the glass coffin was the idea of the director's son, who was around eight years old at the time. Originally, the room was supposed to fill up with water to drown Strahm but they realized that the scene would be difficult to shoot. So they went with Strahm being crushed to death instead. Kind of a shame that he died in the end like that.
Strahm is such an interesting character because he is such a ruthless and persistent force for team Jigsaw. His surviving the water box trap was when I thought he would be Hoffman’s nemesis in these future movies… but they have him the Tapp-man treatment and killed his ass
Fitting that the only trap that would kill him is one that literally had no exits. Walls closing in and crushing you to death is so wild and idk even know how you build something like that lol. Hoffman being lowered down and just watching it unfold was so cold too. I do wish Strahm survived but he was amazing while he lasted. No one on the hero side stays alive for very long 😂

Definitely not the pendulum. 😅That was all painful from beginning to end. 🥹
For a copycat trap, it was pretty well made and executed. If I had to choose a trap, I'd take the Razor Wristtrap Box from Saw II. All it requires to win is some patience. Hoffman said it best: Never go through an unsecured door, ever! The same applies for hands and holes. 🫱💉🫲
