I enjoy the longer episodes. Throw on some brothers in boots and break out the horse hair brush and enjoy my collection of boots. Keep the great content coming.

Thanks guys another easy listen. I hate squeaking boots. Probably my care regimen. A few of my farm working boots develop squeaks from the mid-sole. At days end I quickly hose them off. Before I wear them again they get brushed. If they start looking dry I use neats foot oil. So talc powder is a temp fix, is that the best I can do?

It's really more of a proactive thing than a reactive thing. Keeping the edges sealed so nothing gets into the midsole to begin with.
Once it gets in we can't see what is really going on in there.
But even that makes an assumption. The squeak can come from different places for different reasons. Maybe it is actually upper leather, maybe it is actually your toes as they move on the leather, maybe it is rot, maybe it is the shank that has shifted, maybe a rubber slip sole wasn't used. Maybe just leather on leather that is dry. I'd hate to assume.
I did have an old pair of Frye Campus boots from the 70's. Which is literally a Harness boot without the Harness. I bought them looking in great shape from eBay for a great price. I learned after getting them the great price was a terrible squeak they didn't tell me about. I decided not to complain and kept them. For those I fixed it by finding a plastic tub around the house that was about the same size as the boots. I poured enough Neatsfoot oil into the tub so it would reach the midsole without touching the uppers, and let it sit for a day or 2. I think 2 days. It worked. No more squeak. But some did get pulled into the uppers that took time to lighten back up. And my socks absorbed Neetsfoot the first few wears. So I'm not sure if I recommend that or not. Maybe 6 hours would have been better? Some will say Neetsfoot oil can go rancid. Not so much in the bottle, but after applied to leather and exposed to air. I am not totally convinced either way on that subject, but can say the rest of the time I owned those boots I noticed nothing negative. (BTW, I sold them on eBay. I don't wear anything without an arch anymore so lots of boots have been sold on eBay)
So giving advice here isn't the easiest. If we were talking in a FB group I'd probably ask you to send a quick video of the sound. All I can do at this point is just help with thoughts and ideas

@@cloveroak5492 Yes. Neets foot oil works well for me in a dry climate. OZ. I'm more concerned with talc powder in the leather. The Leo lasted squeaker makes noise off foot just flexing by hand. All good I'll just use it up.

Jk is always doing their best to ride the line between ignorance/negligence and absolute incompetence. Watching their customers bathe brand new boots in oil is just painful.

Got a question for ya. I have a pair of roughoout Truman's and i am getting some indigo transfer from my jeans to the tops of them. While i dont care about some transfer to the leather i am concerned about if it transfers too much. And i suppose what my question is, how do I keep this in check or cleaned up to a lesser amount(if it goes too far)?
    Thanks for these videos.

Indigo stains pretty good, and indigo stains can look really cool.
If I wanted to remove it I'd go straight to the Saphir Réno'Mat you saw in the video. But it doesn't sound like that is what you want. It sounds like you want to "kinda" clean it. Or medium clean it? 😂 A cleaning step that will leave it always looking somewhat stained. The short answer is I don't know. 🤷‍♂️ The longer answer is that I've spent a lot of time in my life graduating to stronger cleaners as the milder ones fail. So I guess here I'd purposefully start as mild as I could think of? Then go up the scale slowly? Like regular bath or hand soap and a toothbrush? Shampoo? Windex? Start with light pressure on the toothbrush and get more vigorous?
Great question. I'll have to think harder on it and ask some guys I know that have the indigo stains. If I come up with a better answer I'll definitely come back here and comment again.

@@cloveroak5492 thanks for the reply. I wear dark jeans so i know that i'll have staining on these boots no matter what. It is just a shame that they are dark tan boots that indigo is just a couple shades away from dirt. Probably end up just cleaning every 2 to 3 years and let the stains reaccumulate.

CXL and shell are definitely not the same tannage. CXL is combination tanned in drums. Shell is pure veg that's pit tanned. Essex, Dublin and Derby are the ones peocessed the same way as shell, except that unlike shell they're not pit tanned.

    • @cloveroak5492
      @cloveroak5492  16 дней назад +1

We were talking about the second step, in the "combination" there.
Chrome then same as Shell after, which is one reason CXL costs what you it does.
I don't disagree with what you said, but in the context of that part of the conversation there was no reason to mention the first step.
