I have avoided suede/nubuck shoes and boots since I’ve been old enough to buy my own because I figured I would get them all stained and jacked up, and there was nothing to do other than treat them gingerly like they were fragile. Loving this channel, and I’m learning enough to significantly change my habits around footwear.
Thanks Trent! I am inspired, and feeling like I can do suede. Had a pair in high school and had no idea how to care for those boots, but now I am looking at some oxfords and I am feeling more confident with your guides. Thanks!
I absolutely REFUSE to believe your channel has so little subscribers. If these weekly videos keep being churned it's only a matter of time before you start to reach hundreds of thousand of subs. I've just now started to wear quality boots at the ripe age of 22 and am thankful for such informative and educational content. Don't stop being awesome guys.
We really appreciate the kind comments, Salvador! We really enjoy what we do, and putting out content for you all is so much fun. Our channel continues to grow, so hopefully we’ll be in the hundreds of thousands before we know it. Again, a big thank you to guys like you for watching!!
Trenton & Heath One question though. I’ve seen videos where after shampooing the shoes they rinse them directly with water. What do you think about that? Is it ok, or you just remove the shampoo with a cloth or something?
LegendaryADMG I’ve seen folks do that, but we’ve always removed the soap and all with a cloth. I’m guessing if the shoes are muddy, dunking them in water to rinse them off may be the better bet.
I wear a lot of suede boots, and I clean them with Johnsons baby wipes, air dry and then use a suede brush. Does a great job and no spray chemicals ! 🌍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🌍
I thought stuff like that was bad for your suede? I have 1300$ louboutins I'm not risking my suede ruining with my daughters wipes lol I'ma just buy what's made for it.
Looks like Trenton is right again. Bought their suede brush. Started using it very lightly with no result. Added a little pressure gradually and I'll be darned if it didn't work on the suede boots. Lifted and took the stain out. Must drive his family and friends nuts if he's always right about everything.
Not even bothering to comment on this video's quality or content. If Trenton or Heath say to do something then I do it. So going to place an order for the suggested products since my nubucks would probably piss off Trenton if he saw them.
Sometimes the blue "ink" eraser ends work to remove minor stains. They never erase ink on paper, but I find on some suede, it works! This is a cheaper, quick alternative. Of course, the actual Saphir eraser will do far better.
Thanks for a very helpful video! I recently bought a pair of chelsea boots in oiled or greasy suede, and have had a hard time finding information on how to care for them. Maybe you guys could do a video? Cheers from Sweden!
Saw this channel two weeks ago and watched all the videos. Subscribed at 9.6K. Channel is at 17.5k right now. Keep up the great work Guys. Been waiting for this one
Love my black suede cowboy boots was always scared to ware them in bad weather not anymore get a lot of compliments compliments thanks for the cleaning tips
Great video - thanks for the information. Like to suggest that you do a video on how to clean and care for minimalist leather sneakers. I just purchased a pair of Crown Northampton white whole cuts and would like advice on how to keep them looking new. Thanks and keep the videos coming
Does suede need to be nourished like regular non-nubuck/suede leather in order to avoid cracks and other issues that happen when regular leather isn't oiled, waxed, etc?
Thanks to your video, I bought some affordable suede boots knowing that I can maintain them and bring them back to like-new-ish after each "oops" which will happen to them. Thankfully everything is also in stock on your store right now so I can get them protected before wearing them outside.
Thanks for the video guys. Would it be possible to get information on how to handle different types of stains and what types of stains/substances basically can trash a pair of suede shoes and how to repair them? I just bought a pair of suede boots and I'm pretty sure I trashed them because I used harsh chemicals and abrasive methods to resolve my issue, just trying to figure out what I can do to avoid this in the future because suede is a beautiful product. On a separate note Can oils totally trash a pair of suded shoes? Your video was helpful thanks.
Thanks...glad you enjoyed! If you don’t mind me asking, what did you use in them, and what happened? I’m not a fan of putting oil on suede. That’s why we recommend the Renovateur spray, or a sprayed on conditioner. Rubbing any type of oil directly onto the suede can potentially ruin the suede.
I also would like to know. I just recently purchased the distressed Ramblers by White's Boots and need to know the proper way to care for them before they get here.
@@-MichaelMunoz- I found something a while back on the Nicks Handmade Boots YT page. Plow through their content - I can't remember exactly which conditioning video that I saw it was on. But now I oil (not paste) my roughouts with Obenauph oil - check an inconspicuous spot on the boot so it does not darken it too much. Hope this helps.
Good no know all this. I just ordered some really nice suede chelsea boots...and as I've never spent that much money on a shoe before, I want to protect them as much as possible.
Awesome video! You guys rock. You're website has most of the cleaning accessories in stock and affordable shipping prices. Wish I could've got the Suede bundle but had to buy everything separately.
Blayne Cooper It definitely depends upon how often you wear the shoes. If you’re wearing them a few times a week, especially in rain, etc., I’d say a couple of times a month. If you wear them occasionally, once a month would be fine.
This was great, very timely. I am currently standing at parade rest awaiting some suede oxfords being made in Spain right now. I will trot right on out and purchase some of these items for use upon arrival of the shoes.
Hi, this video was very helpful. I have a black pair of suede boots. I do not think I spilled anything on them and there are no visible stains you can see. Should I still clean them with a suede shampoo at least once a year?
Hey my man I just got a brand new pair of I guess you'd call them military-style combat boots. Assault boots. Their desert tan waterproof high boot made from suede. For material that looks very similar. I want to do my best to protect these Boots so I haven't worn them even though it's a month past Christmas.
As always, great information! Did you say that the Renovateur conditioner could also be used on the Thursday line of boots that are considered the "Rugged and Resilient" line? Thursday says you don't really need to condition these boots just brush off with a horse hair brush and a wet cloth??
I have a question that is a little off topic, my apology. My question is, can you resole a Dainite sole on a Blake Stitch constructed boot? I have a pair of Taft Saint boots I'm entertaining having this done on. They come with a dress sole like a shoe. I understand why because the boot is very dressy however, it does have a dressy ruggedness to it also and I believe the Dainite sole would have made a better choice. If this can be done what is the ballpark price on this? Thanks and love your content.
Nice video, finding some of these products was not that easy where I am located, in the end, I got so fed up of trying to keep the nubuck clean, I just rubbed them full of Mink Oil, yes, it ruined the Nubuck finish, but they do not stain (because the Mink Oil is much darker than the original finish) and they are about 100% waterproof. Given, they do not look too fancy anymore, but for a work boot, it is just fine and they need no special care. Yes I am a leather heretic, but these boots last forever.
Thanks🙏🏽 so much for this video...I have a question about the shampoo item I see the one's you have but is Lincoln EZ Cleaner a good one to use as well? Thanks again

Do you have any experience with Thursday's Suede and any recommendations to care for them? Thanks for your time and videos.
i have a pair of nubuck timberland boots, after a small accident, one boot has a small chip on the toe part, could I use sandpaper to sand the nubuck down in the damaged part to make it even with the rest of the boot ? thank you for the great video
I recently bought a pair of suede boots. I bought the Renovateur spray, but does it also waterproof or do I need to get a separate waterproof spray? My boots are in the box until I get the right tools to take care of them. I'm learning so much about shoe care from your videos, thank you so much for making them!
Why can't you use the saphir renavateur in the jar on oiled nubuck? It says, "all leathers" and it's less expensive and easier to use for people in windy areas.
Hi there. I used the angelus Nubuck shampoo on my timberlands (dark grey) and some patches of color have come off revealing a dull colorless base in certain parts. I was very gentle in my application and scrub so not sure what went wrong. Since the color is quite unique I’m unable to find a colored conditioning spray that goes with it. What would you recommend?
So I imagine the Conditioner comes first? i am confused when do we use shampoo? i thought eraser is the go to for any stains, dirt, etc? is shampoo for harder stains like oil which eraser cannot deal with?
How would you condition Thursday boots rugged leathers? They have on their website not to use cleaning or protective products and just a wet rag and horse hair brush. I like to keep my boots in best shape and feel I should use something.
What is the order in which I should use these products? Like I obviously want to use the spray conditioner before I put any waterproofing on, otherwise the waterproofing would keep the conditioner from getting into the leather lol Let's say I've gone a year without doing anything to my Arizona Adobe Thursday boots. I saw your video about those specific boots which brought me here but I'm curious what's the order in which I should use your products. I don't mind your recommending your products unlike most of the commenters here I just would like to know the order and I will gladly purchase your products!!!

Have you heard of and if so do you have an opinion on Cadillac boot & shoe leather lotion. Not for suede of course, but I use it on pretty much everything else including my full quill ostrich, caiman, and even nubuck. It's not recommended for the nubuck and it does change the color and feel but I don't mind. I even used it to condition my lamb skin gloves and leather wallet. I've been using it for a few years now and have been happy with the results. I'm just curious as to what it's reputation is among true industry professionals.
Hello there! Viewer from Singapore :) Not sure if you're still reading the comments. Will the Saphir Renovator suede conditioner spray darken the shoe color? I just bought a BEAUTIFUL Todd Snyder Danner Mountain boots, in Green moss color (suede). It cost a lot of money, and I hv scoured the internet & youtube looking for a conditioner that will not discolor or darken the gorgeous green color of these boots.
I've heard that brass brushes ruin suede and that new brush types have come out that aren't as harsh. Do you have any comment on this? Maybe non-professionals are misusing the brass brush, which is why I've heard people bash them?
Thanks for another very informative video. Just wondering if brushing suede shoes removes some or all of the suede conditioner and/or waterproofing that was on the shoe before I brushed it. In other words, should conditioner and waterproofing be reapplied after brushing with a good suede brush?
How does the suede brushes with brass bristles differ from the stiff boar bristle suede brushes? Is one better for certain suedes than the other? How about crepe brushes?
What can I use to bring my suede coat back to life...I never worn it...its been in plastic garment bag. I thought about dry cleaning because they can get any wrinkles out but it's not dirty just wrinkled and dull looking?
If you wanted to change the colour and also condition your suede would the renovateur be pigmented enough to cover a different colour? I have faded red shoes that are dry and I want them to be brown and more supple.
Love all your videos. I have an unrelated or maybe slightly related question. What do you recommend to use when caring for Horween waxed flesh leather boots?
Hi, what can I do if my black nubuck boots are looking shiny on different areas? I brushed and it just gets more shiny, I also tried a shampoo it looked nice but once dried back to looking shiny.
So I got a pair of Work - Style 2449 Traction Tred Lite from red wing and they gave me a kit with leather cleaner mink oil cream/wax and a leather protector spray. I tried the spray once and have been using the mink oil about every weekend or 2 after brushing the boots off. I've been looking into better boot care like trees and now realize they are nubuck and apparently I should not have used mink oil. What should I do. I Locate underground utilities for work, grass mud water gravel roads.
Hi, I have just left a comment on one of your videos regarding an Ostrich leather strap and how to protect it. I use the Tarrago nano spray for my suede shoes, would the Tarrago spray be alright to use for the watch strap?
I have Frye and sorel boots that are intentionally distressed and I received them new but there are tiny little scratch marks all over them.. for the life of me I cannot find anything on how to renew this.. I believe they are nubuck suede..
I have boots with walnut oil tanned smooth uppers and roughout lowers. How do I condition the lowers( roughout) and not change the color because I like the contrast?
