    It feels like heresy to watch this video on caring for your gorgeous stitched leather shoes as I'm sat cleaning and conditioning my collection of mostly second-hand, worn and beat up shoes. Some are leather, some are suede, and some are pleather... if they were all leather my day would be much easier

    I’d add that boot care is far less frequent and detailed. While they are similarly constructed, dress shoes in principle require a pristine appearance, whereas some scuffs and fading can add charm to casual/service style boots.

    I have a pair of Grenson toe cap oxfords that are over 30 years old now, used to be worn daily for work and walked a couple of miles each lunch time but less so now, never seen a shoe tree, for a quick shine I use liquid polish with a sponge applicator and they are still in great condition (although they are ready to go back to Grensons for sole and heel replacement). I have a mirror polished toe on my chukka boots, done correctly they take very little maintenance to keep that perfect shine. I think the secret is I'm either too lazy or in a rush so only put on as little product as possible so that it never builds up.

    Hey! Great video. I had a quick question:
    I bought the "carnauba wax polish" from Allen Edmonds and did the following:
    Clean with saddle soap --> dry --> Carnauba wax polish --> Horsehair brush
    Question: Where would a cream polish fit into this workflow, and are they interchangeable?
    Bonus question: Also, if I were to buy Saphir Renovateur, where would it go in this workflow?

    • @DressWell.Madaras
      @DressWell.Madaras  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hello! Thank you. I am glad you appreciated it.
      Saddle Soap seems intense for dress shoes. I never use Saddle Soap, though if you end up walking through something particularly messy, it may be warranted. Even Reno-Mat, a more intense cleanser, I rarely use. The AE wax polish I am assuming is simply a wax and, therefore, does little in the way of conditioning. I've never used that product.
      If you were to be limited as possible with changing the workflow:
      Saddle Soap (cleanser) --> Dry --> Renovateur --> Dry (5-10 min) --> Horsehair Brush --> Cream Polish --> Dry (5-10 min) --> Horsehair Brush --> Dry (2 hours minimum) --> Wax --> Dry (5-10 min) --> Horsehair Brush.
      That's if you were to have a session of using every product. You wouldn't necessarily do all of that every couple weeks.

    Very strong Inspector Closeau vibes. Also, what do you think of using edge dressing(Fiebings makes some) for the souls? I have seen some cobblers use it but have no idea how long it could last.

    I have made it my philosophy to rotate my leather shoes. The less I wear them, the nicer they look.

    Well done! What are your thoughts on conditioning the shoe liners?

    • @DressWell.Madaras
      @DressWell.Madaras  День назад

      Thank you! I have never heard of anyone doing that. I suppose you could if it was real full-grain leather, though I would really only do it if it clearly really needed it - not on a routine basis. I can't imagine more than once every couple years, and a light coat at that. And after doing so, wear them a few times with inexpensive socks, lest the soft waxes wear off on them a little bit.

    • @Rand-lk7lj
      @Rand-lk7lj День назад

      @@DressWell.Madaras Many thanks for your reply! I was thinking of using a conditioner or lotion that has no included waxes on some Bruno Maglis I purchased over 30 years ago - still in pretty good shape.

    • @DressWell.Madaras
      @DressWell.Madaras  День назад

      @@Rand-lk7lj You are very welcome! Yea that seems reasonable. I'd say just stick to the golden rule - apply little & light, as you can always add more. And maybe even test on a small spot and let a day go by just to make sure.

    Any idea on how often i should condition the shoe if i am going to use it everyday?

    • @DressWell.Madaras
      @DressWell.Madaras  9 дней назад +1

      It can depend on conditions, though if you are literally wearing them every day for much of the day, probably a light conditioning once every 2 months would be good. Once a month in harsh conditions, once every 3 if basically sitting in an office most of the time. I wouldn't do any more or less frequent than that.
