Just want to clarify folks. These sprays are only for everyday wear. By no means do you want to take your nice suede shoes and go trekking through rivers and alpine mountains after spraying them with a water repellent. It’s important to spray them in order to protect them from everyday wear (rain, oils, dirt, etc).
Trenton & Heath Hi please tell me can I use these products on my suede jacket.
I love your style. Humble but stylish.
When you reapply the waterproofed, do you recondition them also? Do you need to use suede cleaner first?
Why do people want suede shoes?
Is this spray safe to use on light colored boots?
Starting to make me mad now . Been through every one of their videos and there's nothing, absolutely nothing, wrong with any of them! Nothing but good useful information from two guys looking out for their customers and viewers. It's getting to be pretty obvious they're working as hard on their videos as they are in the shop providing quality workmanship. This particular video comes in real handy this time of year. Thanks guys.
thepowderriverfarrier Definitely appreciate that!! We don’t have the most “entertaining” videos on RUclips, but we definitely try our best to provide informative videos to help our fellow ladies and gents out.
Yeah it really pisses me off how these guys have good content.
Thanks to them for giving me the info I need.
I could have saved a few pairs of suede shoes that I tossed out for not waterproofing them. It was more the stains than regular water than ruined them. Lesson learned, thanks for that.
Even neglected suede footwear with stains can be cleaned, conditioned, and waterproofed. No need to throw them away !
Good video, but I couldn't get over the fact that your apron strap was folded
I now can’t stop looking at it...
You bastard, now I can’t see anything else lol.
Ahahaha it’s killing me !
Would like to see you renovate a pair of beat up suede shoes/boots!
The Amateur Listener same here. How about giraffe skin too?
Action starts at 4:46 you're welcome.
Thx again fellas y’all are a life saver! Just got my Dad’s grey suede Chelsea boots out of the box was curious how to clean/shine them and with out fail y’all got several videos! Going to be turning heads and breaking hearts at this wedding I am attending for sure! 😆
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. It was very helpful . Also thank you for the links , it saves me time and frustration !
You just saved my new arborist $600 boots from a Friday first wear. It’ll be Monday now, and thanks a million
Hey Trenton & Heath. Perfect timing on this video! I was just thinking about investing in some suede boots soon
Justin Gonzales Good deal! Glad it helped. 👍🏻
Yall are just straight up Gs. Best content ever.
How about reapplication? Frequency and preparation
And when cleaning dirt off with a brush or eraser will that not remove the protective spray? Should reapplication happen after a thorough brush?
How about cleaning sticky particles that haven't rolled off the shoe completely-a little water?
Thank you!
Exactly. Methods they suggest are used mostly by fashion oriented people who prioritize look of specific leather texture over utility which by itself is perfectly ok, but it's early trap for people who just started to take care of their boots to make them last longer and don't know any better. Felt in it myself. Waterproofers in aerozols wear down with pretty much any mechanical contact leather takes, putting one leg on the other, walking through grass/leaves, leaning boot against any surface - it stays almost only on the outside. So no outdoor work to be done, no camping, no trekking, walking with dog, this and any simmiliar activity will provide enough natural scraping to wear down the layer over time and water will sink right through the entire thickness.
It's either accepting heavy coating with grease or wax based products and embracing changed look, or accepting that untreat open pore leathers will just absorbe water like sponge and any dirt coming with it too.
Got a pair of suede Chelsea’s the other day. I have to admit I’ve worn them before waterproofing them. I do have some waterproofing spray coming in the mail though.
Theodore Skrodzki Good deal! Better late than never. 😉
So informative! I just wish I had discovered this channel years ago. Thank you so much!
I'm just getting here now, so you're two years ahead of me! Lol.
You guys weren't wrong about the smell of those two sprays. The worst part about it is that it lingers, so I would recommend leaving the sprayed shoes in a garage or separate room closed off at least overnight especially if you have pets.
How long does the water repellent last? How often do you need to spray?
It depends on how frequent you wear them in moisture. I would suggest re-applying the water-repellent spray every 4-6 months if you're wearing your shoes/boots everyday.
Did this to my Geox U Dublin A suede boots before wearing them. I used Jason Markk Repel. A lot cheaper than the product featured, pump sprayer and no nasty smells.
First day I wore them, the weather forecast lied to me and I monsooned. Can't tell you how relieved I was after seeing the water just roll off the boots.
Thanks for the recommendation, just got some pretty powder blue suede Pumas and I want to keep them nice
Wow ! Sounds like they’re Gorgeous ! 😍😍😍 Love Pumas
@@mariahcantu7668 Yeah I love their suede shoes
Thank you for this I am thinking about buying a Air Jordan shoe with mostly suede
Kenneth Martinez You’re welcome! Thank you for watching.
travis scott 1s?
Would the invulner spray work on sneakers/Jordan’s? Seems like a better alternative to the sneaker sprays that fog dark leather
Good advise!! thanks. I've subscribed with notifications.
this is just an ad for saphir products. Bickmore clan represent
A damp rag is enough to clean leather or suede, unless they have salt or stubborn stains. I would not wear suede in the rain, unless I'm wearing overshoes
YOu know I used to see rubber overshoes when I was a kid but I never see them anymore. I would nab them if I did. Are they around?
@@notaclue822 www.tingleyrubber.com/collections/over-the-shoe Tingley seems to make good ones. All I have is a pair of totes overshoes but they're only good for slim and tapered shoes, not wide
When a shoe has a leather interior, should conditioner be applied to the inside leather?
I wouldn't, but that's just me. Find out what it does to your feet.😀
I do. My feet sweat, so a lot of moisture goes through. That damp then dry process is bad for leather.
I wouldn't throw away my Uggs boots if I knew that. I came here for my Suede shoes for Spring. Thank you!
Always enjoy your content 👍
Thank you very much! We’re glad to hear it.
Just what I needed!
Good deal! It definitely makes a big difference.
Just seen your video and you gained a follower!! Keep adding adding value 🔥
Great vid!!
Protect your investment 👍🏼👍🏼
Great timing. Just had some suede shoes made in Spain. Heading to England next week where it might have high humidity I am told.
Very nice! Enjoy!
Rain in England?!? Huh? 🤣
Thank you i was going to buy some off white and this vid helped allot
Hey Trenton & Heath, great tutorial. Thank you! Do you have a video on how you are supposed to care for Terracotta-style leather boots? (Wax, products, etc?).
Thank you for sharing your expertise.
Almost every video or article in the internet about conditioning/waterproofing suedes with oils or waxes I have found altered the color a shade or two darker and changed the look and finish of the suede to a more smooth leather like..
Are there any workaround to this issue?
I like my matte finish camel tan suede chelsea boots as it is and don't want to ruin the color or the texture while protecting it from dirt and water.
Experts are warmly welcomed to drop a few tips here.
This works. I just treated two new pairs of suede AE Nomads with Renovateur, and today, Super Invulner, and they passed the water test. First I tried droplets, and they beaded up. Then I poured water over an area, and it just poured off. Amazing! These products are not cheap, but they work. Follow-up question: My beautiful new white Nomad bucks do show signs that the white dye or pigment will eventually wear thin. What product do you recommend when it’s time to renew them? I was thinking the sort of sneaker whitener sold by Kiwi and other brands. Or do you have a different idea? Thank you.
Hello! I really enjoy watching you guys at work. Can you please help me? What is the best care for buffalo leather? Thank you and greetings from Germany
Heard this video playing and could have sworn it was Walter Sorrells knife making channel. Must be from the same area.
Stared at the twisted shoulder strap the entire video
Hey Trenton, did you spray the conditioner first the the waterproofing on your tutorial? I have some Vans canves tennis shoes can you do a tutorial on how I can keep them clean & stay white? Thank you so much. Have a great day
Why don't they just apply the waterproofing when they make the shoes in the factory?
Some manufacturers do (I think Thursday Boots does) but it wears off after a while so needs to be re applied every now and then. I think every few months? Not sure
Thank you so much for this video! Love y’all content so helpful!
I have Thursday explorers in dark olive suede would love a video on them.
Always test things on Pete's shoes!
Who’s Pete?
Thank you so much for this! Going to buy those suede flats now and those sprays of course. 💓 Can I also use this for handbags?
I actually don't think the Invulner smells bad. Curiously, the Allen Edmonds' waterproof spray smells the same as the Invulner and also "claims" to be silicon-free. I usually use the Invulner on my best shoes because 6.56 oz. for $25 in hangerproject and the Allen Edmonds' on the rest (5.5 oz., $7 in woodlore).
bjbt0586 Not a bad idea! Grab some from us next time and save 15%. 😉
Priceless knowledge
I assume the conditioner has no negative effects on the suede although it doesn't seem unreasonable to avoid saturation. Maybe too much humidity rots the leather? What about these waterproofing sprays? Is sealing the leather going to make the shoe not breathable?
Great tips!
Thank you!
Great video! Quick question - is it OK to brush up nubuck (or suede) after applying water repellent? Or will it remove the repellent?
I have a weird question, can you remove the dye from suede shoes? I got a great deal on 1000 mile boots with a camo print that I am not a big fan of, so I am planing to dye them brown. I am worried if I do not remove or lighten the camo print it might show through when I dye them brown. I have a test piece of the leather and was gonna try using acetone, then dye, brush them smooth, and then a conditioner. Also is it possible to burnish or smooth suede with wax or gum trag? Love the videos! Thank You!
Very well done sir
What about the "waterproof suede" that companies like Thursday boots advertise?...is that legit?
From a quick search it looks like they just proof the suade at the factory with a DWR. It will likely last longer than the sprays you can get commercially, but eventually you will have to reproof them.
Henning Nilsen so no need to waterproof immediately
It just means that the leather is pretreated at the factory. Unless its a sealed construction they are not actually waterproof, they are only water resistant. If thats the case, water will still leak through the seams. I hate it when companies make a claim like that. Its very misleading.
Kelly Taylor I understand that, I don't think they are claiming that the shoe is entirely waterproof, just that the suede is pretreated. My assumption is that it will need to eventually be treated again, but for now, it's ready to wear out of the box.
@@ryanrobicheaux3896 Yep. Its pretty common now. Only hoping to clarify. The distinction isn't obvious to everyone, but it is important. Especially if you live in certain climates.
How about heavily oiled suedes or “waxed flesh?”Any difference in the way they take on the waterproofing spray?
I've waxed suede boots before using Sno-Seal, and it's a very effective form of water proofing in and of itself. So in most cases, I would consider the spray redundant if it's indeed been given a liberal wax coating.
What about scotch guard
Thanks! Much needed info!
This site rocks!!!
Can you please write exact names of what you apply first and second on shoes? Thank you 🙏
I have a suede jacket, can I use the same products on that, too? Otherwise great and informative videos, keep them up!
Yup
Very informative, thanks
Hi and thanks for the video. I wear hiking boots (Salomon Quest 4D 3 GTX) every day, I work in a jungle in Panama where it rains 7 months a year. What waterproofing method can you recommend me? Thanks in advance from a Venezuelan viewer!
I make holsters and use Resolene to seal in the color and provide protection to the leather. Ever try it on shoes?
Hello,
I've been wondering for a long time whether the suede leather doesn't become brittle and dry and hard if it's only ever treated with sprays.
Doesn't suede need grease and wax at some point?
I realize that this will change the look of the leather.
Greetings Robby
Hi, I have a pair of Pajar fur boots, that actually gave a light fur over the Suede on the outside of the boot Csn I spray the fur with the protector and conditioner thst you are using. These Pajar boots are made in Italy and they are using all the Glamorous Furs and whatnot . Thanks.
does the invulner spray last forever until you use it in harsh weather then you reapply?
No mention of what wax you are using in the 'listen products' in the description. Can we please share this as I don't want to ruin my beige suede shoes with something glossy if glossy is not the answer. thanks
Hi. I’m making a bag out of suede and watched a few of your suede videos. Would you recommend waxing a suede purse? I’m using light suede and don’t want the bottom to get dirty. Any reason not to treat a purse the same way as a shoe? Thanks for your awesome videos! 🙏🙏
I'm a subscriber and greatly enjoy your videos. I just wish that the shoes more often would be in focus. Otherwise no complaints from me, only praise.
What about using products like Sno Seal or Mink Oil paste?
Thank you for this very informative video. I just received a Pair of Toms light pink suede booties. BC they are so light colored, is everything you explained the same???? . Do I need to adjust the spray further away. I’m scared BC I don’t want to ruin the color with droplet stains. Also should I spray then one let it dry and then do it again. I was told by the store to apply protector 1 time, wait 24 hrs. And spray a 2 nd time. Also what do you mean by the wax? Is that the wax for smooth leather to apply to the heel and around the part that goes all around the bootie. Sorry for so many ?????? Thank you in advance. Very helpful guys. ❣️
Great video. I have new oiled nubuck boots. Would you use the renovateur on oiled nubuck before waterproofing ? Boots are for city use not hiking
Great informative video. What wax did you use on the heel block and the welt?
That's why we are in making of water repellent suede leather
Just got some new winter boots with Nubuck, and bought a waterproof spray too, so this is very handy information, thank you. Will try to take good care of them for more than the first 5 months :P Got some leather mittens too, so need to take care of those too so they last.
I have some older sued/Nubuck shoes too that haven't been taken care of. Is there a preferred way of cleaning them before treating them like you mention in this video?
I noticed that the renovateur spray comes in different colors . Is the natural or neutral clear? I have brand new black suede dr. Martens never worn I bought both sprays mentioned in video . The renovatuer spray in black but I don't think they need to be dyed . Can I use the neutral one? Hoping I get a response. I don't want to ruin these boots. Haven't worn them yet cause I want to do this right.
I got myself suede Chelsea boots as of yesterday. I googled this video and have looked around for the best spray for my brown suede shoes. The spray if neutral means it has no added pigments therefore it should be okay to use and the most versatile option. I take no responsibility if anything goes wrong. I'm not a shoe expert.
Hi, y'all! Would you have any tips on how to get rid of existing salt stains?
Rika Allodola There are several products that can get rid of those pesky salt stains. A vinegar/water mixture is one. Another is a product we carry online. potterandsons.com/collections/shoe-cleaners/products/winter-stain-remover
Any thoughts/ advice on waxing nubuck? I recently bought some Limmer hiking boots with a really low nap nubuck finish...was thinking of waxing them. I don't want them to look fancy...and I have heard of waxed nubuck before. But haven't found much info on the subject.
I have the same question. Did you ever find your answer?
How long does the waterproofing treatment last? How long would a bottle last? It costs a lot of money!
Can you do a review on Charles Tyrwhitt Goodyear welt shoes/boots? Also Oliver Cabell boots?
Hey man, quick question, what do I clean them with? I made a mistake to take them out on a rainy day without spraying them first, is there any kind of cleaner you recommend for nubuck before applying the spray? So the stains don't stick?
You used a darker suede shoe, with lighter colors, will that spray permanently darken the color of the suede? I would hate to buy a cream colored suede shoe and have it wind up being darker brown in an attempt to protect is from water. Thanks.
I got a question on the opposite end of the season. For the summera where it can reach 110°F, is there anything that's needed to be done to protect leather from the heat?
Good question. Condition and rotation. Heat will pull out moisture just like our skin and sweat will get soaked into the leather.
my question is that after the waterproof spray, will brush damage the waterproof film
Nice video, could you able to do a video how to clean suede shoes?
M G Absolutely! Coming soon.
So I just bought a pair of suade tecovas , ? So I say the video where you add the rubber flap at the toe to mid , I kinda want to sent my boots to you guys and maybe darken them ? Shot in the dark , either way you have turned me on to the understanding of good shoes.
Thanks. Jimi
So let's suppose you've applied waterproof spray recently. You wear them and you go out. And it starts raining! Does it waterproof them completely or does it start taking off after an amount of water has been spilled on them? That's a concern I always had, and exactly the reason why I've never bought suede shoes although I really like them.
This is probably a silly question, when do customers bring their shoes in the shop? What issues can be addressed? Is it just to fix soles, stains, etc?
Could you make a video on how to wax suede shoes.
Great video. Quick question - since I want to keep reconditioning the boots every few months (wear several times a week) - does the waterproofing spray stop the conditioner spray from penetrating?
Can you please demonstrate it on a suede coat 😭
What about rough out boots? Like the thorogood roofer in rough out.
Would like yo know about good quality, but less pricey care products
How would you advise "uncurling" the shoes sole? My boot toes curl up because i wasnt using a tree. Thanks in advance!
Gotta protect my new balance dad shoes 😂
Wait so the conditioner also tints them?
What is it (specific ingredients) about the Saphir brand that make you recommend it over any other suede protector? Besides the nice packaging, what sets it apart from the rest?
نريد الترجمة إلى العربية اذا سمحت الله الله يعطيك الف عافيه عمل رائع
Nice informative video . I have some ASICS suede shoes . After cleaning them with water and soap, I brush them , instead of mink oil can I use baby oil ? Then brush again to spread it and then use wax paste for cars ? 😁 or I will mess them ?
I used the same spray and it doesn't work as I thought it would? Water does roll of but if I have a bead of water and squish it, it soaks the suede.. The water spot does come off with brushing but I imagine it would've been 100% impermeable..
Hi, thanks for uploading, super informative! Would the water repellent spray work well on suede sneakers as well as shoes? And is it suitable for all colors of suede, or only certain types?
Suede doesn’t act differently based on what kind of shoe it’s on or what kind of dye is in it, lol.
I didn't know that I needed to condition my sued. I emptied a can of Scotch Guard for sued on my shoes. Is it possible to condition my shoes even after the Scotch Guard?
You may want to lincoln suede clean them first
