Hey Scott! I happened to be talking to Frank today and I mentioned you and your daughter and your motorcycle inquiry. He said he wanted to be there to help you. So if you give me a day/time window he can try to make sure he is there....

@@cloveroak5492 the plan is to be there when they open tomorrow. They are the first on the list. So probably between 9-10. If there is a better time I would definitely work around his schedule. We leave Sunday morning.
That’s awesome you reached out to him and let him know. Top notch!

@@cloveroak5492 we had an awesome time meeting Frank and the crew! Being there in person, and discussing options is priceless. We both have MTOs coming and the anticipation is going to be tough. Frank is top notch! Also appreciate you giving us some guidance and giving them a call.
For my first MTO here is what I went with. I will try other options for future orders but I had to start somewhere:
      Road Commander 8”
      Dublin Cobalt Blue
      Horween Predator Steel Uppers
Padded collar in Dublin Cobalt Blue
      Blue stitching
      Welt stiching in white
      Black Hardware
Red X sole (little softer and maybe a little grippier)
Shift pad in cobalt blue on left boot (motorcycle shifter)
I kept going back on forth on 6” vs 8”…but felt the 8” gave me a lot more of a stable ankle support feel. Next build I may drop to 6” or 5” for flexibility. Will see after a few runs on the bike.
Curious about the last you went with vs the 55, is there a sizing difference vs the two or purely cosmetic and allows for more room for the toes to move?

I bought Oak Street's limited release on Badalassi's cognac ness. It's my first shrunken vege tanned leather. First impressions was that it felt like a tougher handbag leather and the leather itself was nice and dry to the touch. The pebbling was not uniform and areas where a lot of pressure was applied for lasting the leather was virtually smooth to the touch. So far a few weeks of wear and I've not done anything to it aside from brushing it after wear since it's a very recently made boot and I'm sure Oak Street has already optimized its condition before sending it out. However it's such a nice looking leather that I'm actually hesitant to use it roughly despite the boots coming with a nice commando sole (might just be new boot hesitancy) and I'm even more hesitant to put any sort of conditioner on it, nor do I know what should be used to condition it eventually. I'll figure it out when I get there lol.
Funny you say that about CXL, because I took one look at the first pair I bought from Oak Street, a pair of natural CXL trench boots, felt the leather's thickness, gave it a brushing and into the rain, the mud and the rurals it went even though it came with leather soles which traditionally didn't suggest outdoorsy uses getting cuts and scuffs.
I gave it a conditioning of saphir's renovateur, some oil for the sole and it held up beautifully. Though the amount of time I've spent in the sun with them also meant that when I went online to compare notes on how CXL ages, I've apparently got my boots to age about 2 years after just 6 months of usage. They're a nice uniform slightly dark whiskey colour now and I've even somehow managed to get one vamp completely burnished while the other vamp remains spotless to my frustration. I would like to get them even darker with wear. If I ever get another pair of naturals, I'll probably not get CXL and try out other tanneries. But I'll probably not wear them as hard to preserve the sandy natural colour as long as I can. I've compared my trench boots to how they looked when I first got them and they were completely unrecognizable.

The Badalassi is conditioned well already. I doubt Oak Street did anything, but Badalassi is selling it as fast as the y make it, and Oak Street is using it as soon as they get it. So it is fresh. You should be able to go a year without conditioning from the use you described. Enjoy, and thanks for commenting.

Great video guys! Have you seen natural American bison leather?

    • @cloveroak5492
      @cloveroak5492  3 месяца назад +2

No, we haven't. Professionally tanned Bison is all Chrome Tanned I believe, and I'm not sure "Natural" is possible with totally Chrome Tanned? I have seen bleached, which was of course white. It was meant for people who wanted to dye it themselves. But you now have me wondering why nobody Veg Tans it. I wonder if W&C could be talked into it. 🤔

I own many boots with leather better than SBfoot.. but I always thought their harness and legacy letters are fit for purpose. What am I missing.
    Other than maybe break-in.

SBFoot tans just fine. It's the grade of the leather, and the thickness of the leather. They also aren't doing anything real special as far as hot stuffing.
So it isn't so much that there is something wrong with it, as that there are tanneries making available more desirable leathers, and making it available with more thickness.
