    Since I'm still in the shopping stages, this was great to learn about. So glad I found your channel.

    That looks really nice.
    On my shark. I used nylon bolts and nuts and bolted down a 3/4 inch pice of mdf. On top of that I cut a mirror sized board of the first with the same bolt holes minus the pockets for the nuts and glued that with weight using wood glue. I then flattend the new jig board and sat back and said wow that looks nice. I then put in a 1/4" waste board on top of this jig board and hold it down with 23 gauage pin nails. This board I consider it trash and will replace it after it's all cut up.
    So I have a 24 by 24 jig and waste board on my Shark HD510 it will cut 25 by 25 but I leaned to keep the boards inside the cutting outter limits of the shark so I can resurface every thing.
    2 days after cleaning this all up and making it pretty... I have a 1/8" bit snag a pice of cut out and raise up and jamb the router loosing it's z height...for some reason it started drilling down 3/4" of a inch and in a few seconds I had a brand new hole in my brand new really cool looking jig bard and waste board.
    So I removed the waste board. Poping it up and off the jig board with a long screw driver. Removed the pin nails that I had to hold it in place and then filled the new hole in my jig board with glue and sawdust leaving it a bit proud and also filled a few screw holes with glue and tooth picks. Let this dry over night and ran the flattening 2" planner bit and added a new piece of waste board all was looking really cool and neat again.
    2 weeks later I had a bit slip in a collet. After retighting it it slipped again... pulled the collet and cleaned it and put it to the side as suspicious.... Filled in the big hole again 3/4" by 2.5" by 5/8: deep with saw dust (I also bought some plastic wood filler to try but haven't used it yet)
    I have been making dice puzzle boxes on the CNC made 21 of them in the past couple of months 12 this past week. Each one has 30 parts and they are fun to make but the batch of 12 makes it turn into work.... "retired" ha!
    Moral of this story is about the time you think you have solved the spoil board delima....look out here comes the fun! Thanks for sharing your videos. I enjoy them.

      Ouch! I know that hurts but this is exactly why you have a spoil board so that when stuff like this happens ( fingers crossed) it doesn’t cut into your machine bed. Thanks for sharing.

    I have the MDF to make my own spoil board. I also have the hardware. I've had both for literally years, I just haven't made it yet. My janky temporary spoilboard is not a long term solution. I have a PiranhaXL from Next Wave Automation and the spoil board needs to become a priority.

      It really does. Let me know if I can help in anyway.

      @@mkdesignsfinewoodworking I appreciate that. I think the thing that is keeping me from doing this project is the nervousness of lining up the holes for the attachment points.

      Thank you for the video. It was super helpful. My mother has a new CNC the Shark HD4 and unfortunately has only been used a couple of times. I'm trying to help her with this and it's the blind leading the blind. So this was very helpful and look forward to more if you do them.

      That’s awesome! There are more videos in the works. Some about the Shark Machines and some about CNCs in general. Thank you!

    My HD500 should be delivered today. I went on Next Waves site to look at a probe and spoiler boards, and they charge freight on each individual piece even thought it is all shipped together. Freight on the spoiler board was $63.00

    • @mkdesignsfinewoodworking
      @mkdesignsfinewoodworking  Год назад

      So did you order the probe and the spoil board kit at the same time as the 500? I’m a little confused.

    If using the Shark spoil board can I still use your toolpath setup for surfacing and cutting the grids?

  • @Plymouyhian

    What is the shaft size for the surfacing tool? It looks like it is too large for the standard water cooled motor?

    • @mkdesignsfinewoodworking
      @mkdesignsfinewoodworking  Год назад

      The one I used is 1/2”. I have a 3hp water cooled spindle. I can use 1/8”,1/4”,or 1/2” shank bits. Before I got the new spindle I had a 2hp spindle and couldn’t use 1/2” shank bits so I used this:

    How do you tell which side is up on the 13 each Back Slate?

      James explains it in the build video but the smaller arc goes to the bottom.

    What are the dimensions of each individual board of the Next Wave's spoil board?

    • @mkdesignsfinewoodworking
      @mkdesignsfinewoodworking  Год назад

      There are two different sizes. The larger ones are 4-5/8” x 25” and the smaller ones are 2-5/8” x 25 “.
