The Sidecar is an interesting cognac drink, primarily because it has a bit of a weird orange / citrus / sour lemon bite to it. Not exactly what we crave, but an interesting drink to try for those cognac drinkers.
The Sidecar Recipe
1 1/2 oz cognac
3/4 oz orange liqueur
3/4 oz lemon juice
Garnish: orange twist
Garnish: sugar rim (optional)
Overall, this would probably be a pass for us, we're not sold on the lemon balance in this one, as it has a bit of that "bile" taste going on again, much like the Detroit Athletic club.

Dude went on Crusade with that cleaver.
Hahaha yes
BIG fan of using Grand Marnier for sure. Absolutely delicious. 😋
Yeah, I used to like it in margarita's but then found other things I enjoyed more. Then, trying it again 7+ years later I found it fun again. Must have just burned out on it for a bit there.
@@cmcocktails Oh yeah. I did too for a bit. Haha. Just so happened I was out of Grand Marnier tonight but DID have some good orange liqueur on hand so tried your recipe instead. Good stuff! Thanks for the inspiration. 🥳
Cognac espresso martinis are absolute bangers.
espresso = awesome, so adding to it is great :)
Once I made this drink with an inexpensive California brandy instead of cognac, and I decided it was better than the regulation version, with cognac. The inexpensive brandy was sweeter, and that was at least part of it. I've also made it with a better American brandy. I'm still trying to decide if the cheap or better brandy makes a better Sidecar, but I think both are better than the version with cognac. (I use VS cognac. Maybe a VSOP produces better results?) My guess is that the same things that make cognac good for drinking neat also mean that it doesn't get along with other ingredients in a cocktail.
yeah, just strange considering the sidecar is a classic. Figure it must be a classic for some reason, I just don't know what :) Maybe it's the specific cognac being used, or maybe different ratios for the classic.
QOTD: Who is the driver and who is in the sidecar with this trio?
