Have been waiting eagerly for this. A little shocked at the price point, honestly. It's understandable that their biggest in-house engineering venture might be seen as a warranty exposure. Maybe this time next year everything will line out and they will bring pricing closer to the BCA world. Seems like a 300 Blackout natural fit. Maybe by then. An adjustable-gas 10.5 inch 300 Blackout piston upper for $375 would be a world-beater.

The GPX adds: much more intricate gas block, piston & rod, knob on the bcg were the gas key was. Loses: gas tube, gas key, gas-related bolt internals (passages, seals, etc). So the bolt/bcg have to be cheaper to make. You are left with the gas block and piston/rod for $250. Nope. Once they recover engineering costs, production cost difference can't be much beyond $60. So let's say bump that to $100 for margin and add $25 for cool/exclusivity/beer fund. That's $375. And that's a BCA price. $500 is not a BCA price and it doesn't fit the brand or fit the brand's image, fair or not.

I came for these comments. For BCA the price is too high. If a company with good QC released one at this price like BCM Geissele or even Aero the website would have crashed with all of the people buying one. Hell if it was PSA it would be almost a go but I’ll wait the prices out. I see a steep 4th of July sale in their future.
Each BCA I've purchased w/ exception of the .458 SOCOM, I have either turned into or built with Pistons. Including the 7" I purchased as an complete upper. That little 7" is the most fun you can burn money with and that was Before I turned it into a piston. Piston driven is the 'only' way for me. Appears the piston in the shorter barrels runs the weapon a little better. Rock on BCA.

@@Erik-pv2sr Superlative Arms & Adams Arms. I have multiples of both.Make sure you get the correct gas block diameter for the barrel diameter. Example: .750. For .308 nobody is making a kit. You can only get just an adjustable gas block. I have one on a .308 which works well and I have Primary Weapons Systems .308's - but they're not cheap and doesn't look like they're making them in .308 anymore. On the .223/5.56 end, BCA converted is as good as PWS's. PWS is just using Heavy Barrels. Sorry PWS. Love you're product. You've got thousands of my $'s. Pissed you've bailed on .308's - jerks. Still buying buffer tube systems from you though. They to me are the best. A Springfield M1A is in my near future. Take that PWS.

5:39 The charging handle on the BCG needing tools to be disassembled from the upper is a bit disappointing. If I may make a suggestion to anyone from Bear Creek who may read this, take a look at the South Korean K2C rifle. Heavily inspired by the AR, AK, and FAL. The upper separates from the lower in almost the same fashion as an AR, and the side changing handle doesn’t require tools to separate from the BCG, which looks like an AR BCG. Just a suggestion.

Only reliability if you don't clean it if you drop it in the dirt it won't perform well people have done test with AK-47 that is a piston system the reason why the AR-15 work so well is because of the gassing system and how it works it blew all the dirt out of the upper and lower receiver first round they fired and it ran flawlessly

History of match shooting tells us yes, just a bit. Only a practical concern for those shooting at 1k on a range though. Lots US Military SPR's are piston driven, and perform well at 600+ 👊🏼🇺🇲👊🏼

Looks like ar uppers and glock slides remain unregulated parts. The ar lower is the defined receiver (page 331-332) and the glock lower is the defined receiver (page 326)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm next to positive that you just took a Superlative piston system and drilled a shit ton of holes into it. Then you did the exact same with an Adams Arms bolt carrier.... Should we expect upper receivers with holes in them also?

I've ordered some great products from your company over the years but the last 2 orders , one an upper and one a full rifle , were both under gassed and basic QC would have caught this . Obviously shouldn't have this issue with a piston system unless something is damaged . I really want your company to do well and thrive so if you can offer a quality piston upper at competitive cost then I'm game and will sing your praises till the cows come home . Hello i just purchased a .308 complete upper and at the very back of the upper there is this bolt that you can screw and un screw. What is the purpose towards this and is that important to have on or can i take it off?
I am curious as the the ware on the locking lugs after say 2,000 rounds? The direct gas’s impingement actually help lower the friction between the locking lugs mating surfaces to lower bolt ware.
@@brahtrumpwonbigly7309 ok that’s an assumption! And FYI bolt lugs are known to shear off from time to time! Ak and AR lugs are made very differently. And in the AR autopsy channel he has shown piston driven bolts with broken lugs! So my original question still stands! Don’t say, show!
This is fantastic. Im very interested to see where this goes. Currently saving up to get one of these uppers. $500 for complete upper is cheap compared to competitors ($800+). I do wish this was better integrated with the rail so that we don't have to remove the rail to adjust the gas..... or make the know for the gas easy to adjust through the mlok slots.

Upon removal of the BCG, is there a danger of the piston dropping out the back, or is it secured in the assembly?
Its a short stroke by the looks of it so it should be captive

You guys should offer midlength gas systems rather than solely carbine and rifle lengths. Midlength really reduces recoil in those 16" setups

Sig has a piston upper that goes for 600 when available and my import A1 was only 550.

I own a Sig 516. It’s been out of production for the last few years. Only way to get one these days is private sales, and expect to pay at least $900.
