The video: How the pirate characters imagine they sounded singing all night. The epilogue: How the pirate characters actually sounded singing all night. Poor sailor XD
Geoff reworked a classic shanty, and the guys have a grand time with it. I think crazy eyes Layne was the idea. I loved the line "carve his heart out" (with a spoon). It is a salute to Alan Rickman's line as the Sheriff of Nottingham from the movie Robin Hood.
Usually, Geoff wakes up dragons. But in this one, as a pirate, he releases the Kraken. That was really fun watching you react to this one ! Keep doing the good work, Sir !
Bucky also was in the mini of the Candy Crush song as the deranged mall shopper that decided to pop in. You can see him in the background bopping along. He is so funny! Bucky also did the choreography for the cover that Geoff did of Monster Mash a few years back. I hope we see more of him. He has his own brand of silliness to their special kind of dumb. He reminds me of those inflatable things they put in front of stores that wave their arms around😂
Even when they're having fun with "their brand of crazy" you have to be in awe of the harmonies. Layne just killed the percussion but everyone else was "their brand of awesome" too. Fun fact: Bucky did the choreography for Geoff's Monster Mash. He also did 500 Miles in a mini with them just recently. If you ever want to do a reaction of another's reaction watch Lyle (Patrol Gaming). He's all dressed up and costars with his parrot. He's almost as much fun as VP was. And that creepy ass doll gotta go. *shudder
Layne freakin’ stole this. It’s his piece from start to finish, the vocals are just for him to bounce beats off of. Bucky had the only logical and intelligent reaction possible to that doll. I would do the exact same move wide awake and sober.
Can you picture it if this was the first VoicePlay video you ever watched? 😳 I can’t even imagine what you would think, other than they all need to be committed! I have heard that the Captain’s daughter refers to a whip that they used to flog the sailors with🥴. However, that might be preferable to that possessed doll! When several people commented on VoicePlay’s page about the creepy doll, Geoff replied something to the effect that “her name is Clara and she has feelings!”🤣🤣🤣🤣 And yes, Layne’s eyeliner give him crazy eyes, but they really bring out Eli’s gorgeous eyes. He needs to wear it more often ! Bucky makes a guest appearance in two of their minis: Candy Crush and 500 Miles. He seems to hang out at the mall just waiting to stalk innocent singers and crash their little jam session😂. I love it when he imitates those blowup things with the waving the arms that they use for advertising.
Awesome reaction as always. Matt "Bucky" Buckner was a member of Voiceplay waaaaaasy back when they were 4:2:Five. He was Geoff's choreographer in Monster Mash. He can also be seen in their mini videos of Candy Crush and I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) as a mall shopper. Other than the gaming Bucky does voice acting and works at Disney World in Orlando. He stops in every now and then to say hi.
You need to listen to VP's short where they do the Vulture song from the original animated "Jungle Book" (my favorite if you can't obviously tell :) ) where Eli (as a vulture) says to Shere Khan (Geoff), "Please don't eat us!" in that same accent and it's just the funniest thing ever. :)
I love how you basically reacted the same way that everyone else did in the video to Geoff singing "I'm going to carve his heart out", that was amazing😂These guys are just the biggest goofballs and I love them so much because of that. This is definitely in my top 5 songs that they have done, it just puts me in such a great mood. And also, this is kind of random but your laugh is so contagious, I could not stop smiling when you were laughing. Your videos always make me so happy, though I don't comment all the time I just want to say that I appreciate you. Thank you for the great reaction as always my friend❤
Knew that Geoff would break you and Cesar's dancing would finish the job. I love it when VP get to have fun with their music as it is always a joy to watch. Your reaction to it was just as good as I was expecting, if not better keep being you DJ #DJAntlers #DJsHerd
I feel like we don’t get Voiceplay dancing enough because if you’ve watched the Timewarp video you can see that Geoff, Layne and Eli can hardly keep straight faces when trying to keep up with the routines 😂 it gives me such joy! Love them all so much! ❤️😂
at this point if you know what's coming, you just know when DJ is going to pause and break out the "SIR", love the reactions, keep going SIR!, Voiceplay with earl was great, but I have to admit adding César to the group elevated them to god tier acapella
Great reaction! So much to love in this video--one of my favorite things is Eli's reaction to Layne's whale eating the ship; I think of it as reminding him of what happened in the Wellerman short.
The BTS for this one is so much fun, the guys really had a blast making this one. Bucky sang in a recent mini, sure hope we see him again soon!! Thanks for the reaction, enjoyed it!
I really enjoyed your reaction! You never disappoint with your enthusiasm. Who would have thought... line dancing sailors, whalers, pirates, what ever..
I love it when Voice Play makes you loose it. You are so much fun to watch. Geoff just released a new short solo called Paul Bunyan. I think it's his best ever . You will love it.
The Paul Bunyan song is from an animated short that Disney did back in 1958. As soon as he started singing, I could picture the cartoon in my head. Disney did a whole series of tall tales and that was my favorite. And of course it’s originally by Thurl Ravenscroft who is Geoff’s favorite.
Matthew "bucky" Buckner was a member of the group when they were 4:2:Five. He apparently "ruined" his voice and now concentrates on being a voice over artist, at Universal Studios in Florida. Though we did him singing in their short video of the Proclaimers I"m Gonna Be 500 Miles. so clearly he still can. Oh, and Layne often looks crazy. Did you see him in Hoist the Colours? It is often said of bands that the drummer is the crazy one, so it isn't surprising. No one does it like VoicePlay. So much fun. In the BTS we saw some of them doing the Floss, Eli in particular. (As we saw Geoff doing in his Monster Mash video). I for one have been asking for more moves in their videos. It's just that Layne is in no way a dancer but he does so much already.
I loved that this came out the day before my birthday, and I've been really into Pirate Fests and Talk Like a Pirate Day for well over a decade. I was a little shocked at the remix feel (not usually my favorite style) but the humor, Layne's crazy eyes, Geoff's terrifying low rumbles and sudden murderous turn (gawd he would make a horrifying villain, from sexy to psycho in 2 seconds) followed by dancing jigs all around, made this instantly one of my favorites. I will definitely be sharing this with all my fellow pirates! The perfect birthday gift, haha!
Layne always brings me such joy. ❤ He really pulls off the crazy, every time!! This is just so crazy and fun and Geoffs voice seems sinister with that doll around! 😂
Fabulous reaction hun! This was so different from the original and we knew you'd love it, especially as you probably expected something old school from them... Always fun to be here on this journey with you #DJAntlers 💗
This is one of my favorites and one of the ones I always come back to for a laugh! You can watch it a dozen times and still catch something new with every watch.
curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal! (random factoid: in the moana medley, layne was billed as playing hei hei, who in the movie was voiced by alan tudyk, who played wash in firefly)
I love this so much!! They are so silly and this is just sooo much fun!! Bucky is from back in the old days of 4:2:five. Geoff arraigned this one. This is just as they call it, their special kind of dumb, and I love it!!! lmao Great reaction!! Clara the doll is creepy and needs to be thrown overboard! lol I laughed so damn hard with this one.
Not only did they completely rework this old song, but the video is just so funny and detail oriented from start to finish 😄 Thank you DJ for a great reaction ❤
This is absolutely awesome! Can't stop laughing! This is what sets Voiceplay apart from any other acapella group! This is what makes you guys the best at what you do. Thanks for all of the hard work, your great voices, and the laughs you put into this video! Absolutely great!!😂
I like the fact that Geoff had a wooden spoon during his "full on dark" bit. Takes me back to when folks used to say, "I'll carve his heart out with a wooden spoon!"
This one is so fun to watch! I rarely watch the music videos for songs anymore but VoicePlay music videos are like mini movies and I LOVE it! Also love the little side comment you had about Geoff and the captain's daughter haha Geoff's voice never ceases to amaze me with his range!
Layne's crazy eyes are always the best, but Geoff's are actually kinda scary! Add it to those unearthly low notes he summons from the depths, and.....shivers!
This kind of insanity is why I continue to be a VoicePlay patron. I love their whole world of craziness on top of the best a capella music out there. I just wish they'd start doing original songs, too.
Since I first saw this and nearly peed my pants laughing, I've been waiting for you to react to it so I'd have someone to laugh with. Your videos always lift my spirits no matter how bad my day has been
Hola desde Argentina!!!.. me duele la cara de tanto reír!!!.. creo que Voiceplay no tiene límites!!... Los amo taaanto... Y me encanta verte disfrutar tanto como yo... Te mando un abrazo gigante!😂
Of all the reactors I’ve seen so far, yours is the closest reaction to mine for Eli’s line about making him listen to Voiceplay. (I actually laughed so hard I started a nosebleed!) I think we’re coming from a very different place though about Layne’s eyes. I think Layne has beautiful eyes, and the eyeliner just highlights them and makes him look mischievous (except maybe the look he gives Jose after he takes his toy away)
I remember singing this as a kid. If you do it right, you can make this song last FOREVER! It's fun! BTW, you might want to adjust that red lighting you have on the right side of your face, it looks like you're breaking out in a flash rash that goes away when you move. :D
This was such a fun video - cracked me up completely when I saw it for the first time.. They looked like they were having a blast doing it as well. I think Bucky was a member of VP before they became known as VP? Apparently there's nothing sexy about "The Captain's Daughter" so it's right Geoff should do scary - my understanding is that historically "the Captain's Daughter" was the crew's nick-name for the captain's cat o' nine tails whip used to punish miscreants!
Yes, they are the absolute best at what they do. Geoff wrote the bridge for this one, as he's been doing a bit lately. He did the same for Golden Hour, and his own Man of Constant Sorrow. It breaks up what is otherwise a rather repetitive song. In case you hadn't yet realised it, Layne is the crazy one. It's said that the drummer is always the crazy one in a group so there you go. He emphasizes his lunacy often. to be fair, doing beatboxing looks pretty crazy anyway so he might as well go all the way. :) Maybe you're too young, but did you pick up Geoff's referrence to the line from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, spoken by Alan Rickman? I think many miss that. Not sure it would even be possible with a wooden spoon, mind. :)
You play D&D?!! WOW Beerly B.lls🤣! I'm learning what D&D is (I know I'm late). And you're searching for odd or unexpected voices. Hmm, My fav. thing is using my deep voice to voice maybe for anime. I have a few harsh dark voices. And a stretchy antagonist. OK I'll see if I can send you some samples DJ_410, and off course you can use them. I would be honoured!
I believe Bucky is Irish. So they may have started with the Celtic drums as an homage to him? Just a guess. I do love this. It is a whole new side to this song. As usual, they hit it out of the park.
Full beard is Rob the one dresses like Hack Sparrow is Tim red beard is Austin! chance started the song Adam Rupp, bear boxer is the other, Chris Rupp his brother is no longer with the band!
Lol DJ… the only reason you thought any of that song was lighthearted is because you don’t know ye olde seadog slang. The only kinda nice thing that happens is when they throw him in the long boat. Everything else is pretty much torture. Shave his belly with a rusty razor…how’s you like a belly converted in nicks and razor burn? Never mind the threat of tetanus. “Throw him in the scupper with a hose pipe on him”. A scupper was an opening - usually like a short tube - to eject waste or ballast or anything you wanted off the ship straight into the sea. A hose pipe was a pipe with a flexible part. So at best they’re gonna tie (we hope - otherwise said sailor is sliding out) this sap in there and divert nasty cold bilge water on him. Unless they decide to empty the chamber pots. “Put him in the bed with the Captain’s daughter” - women were considered bad luck to have on board a fighting ship. It’s highly unlikely this originally was ever meant to refer to female offspring. Also…Captain’s daughter was slang for the cat o’ nine whip. So this verse is likely suggesting some lashes. They left out two verses from this more popular version: one about giving him a drink of salty water, which would make him throw up, and keelhaul him until he’s sober. There’s a fun one. Keelhauling was where they tied someone up and drug them under the ship either side to side or end to end. The underside of the ships - unless they were brand new - would be covered in barnacles which have razor sharp edges. At best, this would pretty much flay the skin off someone (while in salt water which is not known for its soothing properties in open wounds) or it’d just flat out drown them. Geoff’s verse and expression are dead on appropriate. And that’s the nicer version of the song. Like most folk songs, particularly ones this old (earliest known use of this one was in the mid 1800’s, but there is some evidence it originated about a century darker), there are a lot of alternative versions. One version I know has the last two verses of “lock him in the bilge until his bones are floating” and “run him up the mast as the Jolly Roger”. So, they’re tying this dude’s skeleton to the freaking mast.
The video: How the pirate characters imagine they sounded singing all night. The epilogue: How the pirate characters actually sounded singing all night. Poor sailor XD

@@Denalicat yes indeed it would.

That was really fun watching you react to this one ! Keep doing the good work, Sir !
"Carve his heart out" while holding a wooden spoon is from Robin Hood where the sheriff threatens to cut someone's heart out with a wooden spoon.
Bucky is also in their 500 miles short he is so funny ❤🏴
Bucky also was in the mini of the Candy Crush song as the deranged mall shopper that decided to pop in. You can see him in the background bopping along. He is so funny! Bucky also did the choreography for the cover that Geoff did of Monster Mash a few years back.

Can´t wait for DJ reacting to Geoff´s Monster Mash. I doubt he recovers from that one...I figure he will do it next Halloween?
Layne freakin’ stole this. It’s his piece from start to finish, the vocals are just for him to bounce beats off of.

Yes the Captain's Daughter refers to the Cat'o'nine tails. Putting him to bed refers to lashing the sailor down then whipping him.
Awesome reaction as always.

I get a Weekend at Bernie’s vibe from this video. 7:31 yeah that was a great part of that song hearing them saying their music is torture.
Yeah. The 😉guyliner just emphasizes the crazy.
FYI- the Captains daughter is, apparently, a whip, not a person.

This is nothing like the version I sang in elementary school...🤣
Layne looks completely unhinged, and I'm here for it. :)
I swear, I laughed at your reaction almost as much as I laughed at the original!
They had so much fun doing this haha 😂
This is going on my Halloween playlist. 😂 Soooo much fun
It is not one of your reactions without a SIR at Geoff. Also to add Layne just is "a dad" personified.
