Geoff's bass support in "Know Who You Are" is so ethereal. The slides he makes are just pure and otherworldly.
Agreed! It gives me such chills.
If you read through the video comment section, you will find some comments regarding the Polynesian. As in approval from native speakers. Yes, they do not have the accents that a native speaker would, but the pronunciation is spot on. Polynesian in Moana, Zulu in their Lion King Medley, Korean in the Boy Bands in Five, whatever they do, they always do it right.
Wanna really hear Layne rap? Watch "Trouble/As Long As You Love Me" video with Rachel Potter ft.
Was trying to remember the other one, thanks
Yes, definitely! This one was very early Rachel, and Layne’s rap is *chef’s kiss*
Thank you for posting this. I was just getting ready to go out and try and find it since I couldn’t remember which one it was.
YES!! Layne killed it in this one!
YESSSSS!
The screen goes dark and my tears well up in my eyes.😭🤧 Know Who You Are is the most beautiful song in Moana and one of the most perfect in Disney.🙌❤
We all love all the singers they collaborate with, but Rachel is top of the podium. She is a sensational singer with so much character and emotion to her voice. Please check out VP+ Rachel doing Attention by Charlie Puth, she destroys it!
I must have seen this about 20 times before a reactor pointed it out, and no one ever spots it - but a little secret hidden gem of this video!! When Geoff is singing his main part, Eli takes over the bass!!! He's incredible!!!
I'm just letting you know for if you do watch it again in your spare time - you'll see Eli leaning in really close to the mic to get the full bass sound. It's fab ❤
Also, love your reaction, as always!
In live performances, Eli does the bass line, which really shows that Eli has an insane range as well (they ALL do!) but for the studio recording it's Geoff's voice.
Yeah, Eli is just mouthing the bass line in this video because of the fact that Layne felt it looked weird when no one was mouthing it. The voice you hear is Geoff...
He does not.. he lip syncs it because he had nothing else to sing, as soon as he does have a part to sing again, nobody is technically 'singing' the bass line. As to what you said after: _"you'll see Eli leaning in really close to the mic to get the full bass sound"._ You know that they record this beforehand right? This is a music video, they're not singing live, they're all just lip syncing? The mics are just props for the video? Just.. making sure, 'cause I'm doubting it.
I like to think of this as Geoff's "Transitional hair period". Not short but not the long luscious locks yet LOL. Isn't this just so fun?
Thank you for another great reaction to Voice Play. Eli, the voice actor himself. I love how he fills in the bass while Geoff does his part. Voice acting is actually Eli's second job.
Eli does not sing bass here, only lip syncs it when he has nothing else to lip sync. The only time he may do it is during live performances.
Catching up ... Rocking. Note to self - must watch Muana again
Yeah, this was in the interim between Tony's departure and the addition of JNone as a permanent member of the group.
Also, what makes you think that your patrons vote for things they think you can handle? When I'm able to become one of your patrons, I am in _no_ way going to vote for things that you can "handle," I'm going to vote for things that will blow you away!
You may not have noticed, but when Geoff was doing his Tomatoa song, Eli was doing the Bass notes......>^^^^
Actually, Eli was only lip syncing the bass line for the video. It's actually Geoff double-tracked, singing both parts.
Eli is just mimicking what he does for live stage performances for the sake of the video, but you can tell that's definitely Geoff's bass. You can hear there's this little scoop to some of the notes, kind of a bad habit or stylistic choice that Geoff does. It annoys some "vocal purist" reactors, but I love it, it's a uniquely GEOFF sound. I really want to see a live performance and actually hear Eli's bass range. The dude is just too talented, and they all have insane ranges.
No, Eli actually does fill in the bass line while Geoff sings. He is that good & has a in wide range.
@@marshayoung9387 When they have performed live, yes, absolutely he has. *However* in the track they are lip syncing to for the Moana Medley, while Eli is lip syncing the bass part in the video, the *actual* track is Geoff double-tracked. Layne confirmed this himself.
The outro music on VP's videos is often a clip from the song's karaoke track, which is a Patreon perk.
Yes, that's Eli the tenor (and voice actor) covering the bass line while Geoff is singing lead. That they learned a bit of Polynesian to get the pronunciation correct here is just part of their attention to detail, like learning some Zulu for Lion King and Japanese (or is it Korean?) for Boy Bands (although Eli already spoke Japanese). Adam Rupp of Home Free is the one who learned a bit of Korean to do Gangnam Style. It's in a Guilty Pleasures video that an audience member recorded. He even does the dance!
This video is easy to date. Tony is gone, so it's after 2016. J.None has not yet joined, so it's before 2018. Geoff started growing out his hair shortly before his son was born in the spring, so they filmed this mid to late 2017. When they filmed Attention with Rachel, Baby Lucci was a newborn. I think it's funny that Geoff spends that video hanging out at the bar with his feet up. Anyone who has parented a newborn baby understands why. 🤣🤣
because of course Eli is multi-lingual!
It was Korean, for a BTS song in the boyband video
Eli does not sing bass, only lip syncs it when he has nothing else to lip sync. The only time he may do it is during live performances.
Okay DJ Patrons, time to send DJ into orbit, I Knew You Were Trouble/As Long As You Love Me!! 🤣 Enjoyed the reaction!!
This is an absolute VoicePlay classic... Soooooo good! When you have time, go watch this BTS to see Geoff getting his legs tanned... 😅
The dance remixes are done by Layne, and some of them are available if you're the right level on Patreon, but not all. I don't think I've seen the Phantom of the Opera, but you should be able to find Shiny and Where You Are. Layne also used to rap fairly often in the early days. I highly recommend the ACA Top 10 Old School Rap. And yeah, Rachel was one of their very first collaborators. I think she is the first one in a RUclips video, actually.
Also, I wish they had a bigger section for "We Know the Way" - for me it was the centerpiece of the whole soundtrack and VP just tacked it on at the end.
Me too. It’s my favourite song from the film.
Love this one, and I knew that part where the lights go dark and Geoff has that bass line just gives me shivers every time 💜🦌 #DJantlers#DJsHerd
waiting for when you get around to their cover of "Kidnap the Sandy Claws" Rachel absolutely KILLS it and it's just so so so good!
Loved her character voice. She was pretty pregnant at the time too, which is where the bathtub idea came in so she could sit during filming.
When Rachel is singing the" This is not who you are," I 😢 . The minor key and Geoff's rumble .. no matter how often i hear it....
You didn't comment on Eli covering Bass during Geoff's solo. Have to really watch the background, but it blows my mind every time. Eli is redonkculous
It’s not Eli. Layne pulled up the recording session during his interview with The Charismatic Voice and showed that it was Geoff double-tracked. They just had Eli mimic it for the video.
My oldest son used to listen to this song non-stop when he was a kid ROFL.
They always add the karaoke version at the end... you may find everyone on their Patreon... nice reaction as always. Looking forward to their new release and what it will do to all the reactors out there... 🎉😂❤
Pre-Moana Rachel collaborations: I Knew You Were Trouble/As Long As You Love Me/All Around The World, Chandelier, Phantom, and Attention. Post-Moana: O Holy Night, Just Sing, Little Mermaid Medley, Kidnap the Sandy Claws, Wicked, Greatest Showman, and The Thanksgiving Song from Bob's Burgers (released to Instagram and TikTok). Yes, they learned to properly pronounce the Tokelauan lyrics for Know Who You Are the same way they learned the pronunciation of the Dovahzul language for The Dragonborn Comes. And VoicePlay patrons can watch the BTS and learn about Geoff's "seventeen shades of orange." Also, patrons can get copies of the "karaoke" version of many of the songs, as well as some alternate versions.
I still get chills listening to this one....I agree....Rachel is such a good fit with them, and so very Disney. love your reaction.
You can find those remix versions on the album.
This video was released right after Tony Wakim left the group to focus on Pattycake Productions. And before J None joined the group.
Well ... In "The Dragonborn Comes", they sang in dragon speech ...
Rachel's first one had Tony, so she was an early guest relationship.
Seeing how much DJ vibing to this brings a big smile to my face ❤ Also Geoff from angle to demon in a few seconds 😆
The dubstep/dance versions are on iTunes
Voice play do a wicked medley it is perfect.
The dance remixes are usually on the album releases on Spotify (and other streaming platforms I would assume)
Awesome reaction as always DJ.
Attention video that came up at the very end is really good. It also has Rachel in it.
It's so cute that you're still surprised by anything VoicePlay can do. ;)
Rachel did such a good job on Kidnap Sandy Claws with Voiceplay too. They are all so good together.
if you want to hear eli rap, check out voiceplays of "my shot" (from the musical hamilton)🙃
The dance-version outro that I want the full version of is Poor Unfortunate Souls.
LOL I think You're thinking Adam Rupp in Guilty Pleasures learning Korean , But yes VoicePlay would bother to learn the language rather than bluff their way through something.
Eli is fluent in... I want to say Mandarin? It was mention in one of the Covid-era chat videos. So I would love to hear them sing a Chinese song.
Plus now we have Cesar who melts me when he sings in Spanish. We NEED more Spanish love songs from Cesar. Bésame Mucho, Te amo, Amor eterno, Sin Pijama, Por el amor de una mujer.... or imagine Cesar singing "Hips Don't Lie" both the English and Spanish parts while doing a sassy shaking of his hips. It would need to be a short, because otherwise I would die laughing.
Just wanted to say thanks. I’m loving the frequency of VoicePlay and Geoff reaction ❤
10:16 XD I lost it
Layne can rap? There is an older video in which he is what I believe is known as spitting bars. I Knew You Were Trouble, with Rachel Potter. :) I think that was their first collaboration with Rachel, in 2013. Ten years ago! And yes they do voice acting so well as well. Did you know that Eli's other job, outside of VP, is voiceovers?
Good LORD, was that Eli bass-ing in for Geoff while he was doing lead vocals? I never knew he could bass! Is there no end to that man's talents?
Eli does not sing bass here, only lip syncs it when he has nothing else to lip sync. The only time he may do it is during live performances.
Layne told Elisabeth of The Charismatic Voice that whenever they use a woman sing with them, that they bring in a woman to help with the arrangements.
You need to do Once Upon a Dream!! ❤️❤️❤️
They had so much fun with this ❤🏴
6:55 I think the whole point is they know you couldn’t handle the rap, that’s why they voted for this. It’s not as much fun if you can handle it.
For more of Mr. Layne, you should check out their Trouble mash up with Rachel.
If you love Layne singing, you need to react to True Colors. His voice will pull at your heart strings ❤
I believe she worked at Disney while Geoff and Kathy did.
And I think I remember hearing that she also attended high school in the area and may have competed against them in high school singing competitions. But of course I can’t remember where I heard or read that. So it might just be my crazy memory
My favorite part was DJ mouthing along!
This is an amazing medley, you’ll love it DJ
*wink* Just looking for your limits *chuckle. So far you're holding up fine . Great Job DJ !
if you like Layne rap watch the Trouble/As Long As You Love Me and hamilton.. i think
🎉❤❤❤
Can’t remember if you’ve reacted to this yet but VoicePlay has done a version of “My Shot” from Hamilton. Be ready for fun
Great reaction
If you want voiceplay rapping i recommend you voiceplay My shot (hamilton)
It s an old video with geoff and tony
Lol, whatever you think of Layne can do
Earl’s singing voice is just a wee bit better than Dwayne Johnson’s
Not sure if your seen the voiceplay do mean one mr grinch yet but deff have to
While this is much earlier Voiceplay, 5 years ago, their relationship with Rachel goes back even farther to at least 7 years ago with Phantom of The Opera and I'm not sure but I believe even longer than that, but I don't know the details.
Rachel actually grew up with Geoff, Layne, and Earl from what I've heard.
@@karenponchak5304Thank you. I just posted something similar. I believe I heard or read somewhere (which of course I cannot remember where or when 🤔) that Rachel and Eli both grew up in the same area and competed against Geoff , Earl and Layne in high school singing competitions.
I've been told Eli is doing bass when Geoff does his solo
@@tiredangel39 I did not know that thank you
@@tiredangel39 very cool thanks for the info
Your thinking about Home Free doing G. style
This one could have gone on longer, eh?!!
Lol. AcaTop10s.
Don't forget Ashley Diane who pairs so well with Voiceplay.
they are good but i would definitely notice the difference. they don't sound pacific islander. moana's father has the accent and inflection in his singing that eli does not have. and i do find it a little bit strange to insinuate that other people would do it better than the culture it represents
thats rap? i mean i can do that in my car, to me thats not rap. but to each their own
