Mans is playing Camillo the shapeshifter, that's why he sings his verse looking like Bruno and switches to Isabella mid-song. That took me way too long to figure out. The side-eye glances everyone gave him at that part are hilarious, Ashley looks so pissed even though it was her idea IRL. That sequence had to be filmed at double speed and slowed down since the rose petals are really heavy and just drop to the floor instead of floating unless they're blasted at like Mach 69 speed, so they had to lipsync under a leaf blower. BTW listen to the BV's after the word "umbrella", that might be slightly illegal from a copyright standpoint but thankfully no one noticed. Also Geoff did do a really good shriek at the rat part but they decided to replace it with a stock goat bleat in post for the lulz. He did replicate it at the live showing though
If you payattention during Geoff's wardrobe change moment, Ceaser has a flower petal peg jim between the eyes and stay there the whole time, but he never flinches. Jonestly, im not even sure he noticed.
Oh…some BTS amusement. They filmed the flower petals at double speed then slowed it by half to get that floaty feel. But, as their shoots always do…they hit a snag. No working fan. So….they propped up a leaf blower. Kathy was going to toss the petals as Ashley lip synced in double time. But Ashley is not a big girl. And it was a leaf blower. That, for some reason, they decided had to be cranked full blast. The first take damn near blew Ashley off her feet. Girlfriend literally stumbled back. It always amazes me that they ever get a guest back a second time, lol.
We can all thank Cesar for Ashley being in the videos, because when he began with the group he mentioned Ashley to them, and her first video was If I were a Rich Man/ Girl. She is very talented and has been in about 4 videos including their newest one. I understand through headphones their mix is better than the movie version. I haven't tried it though
Fun fact: The type of singing where different parts of a song is layered on top of each other in that way is called a Madrigal. And the family's last name is Madrigal..
My favorite bit goes to Eli. He looks and sounds so joyour and hopeful when he sings, "He told me all of my hair"--and then so crushed and deflated when he finishes the line, "would disappear". Love it!
Ashley is the one who talked Geoff into the costume change. She ordered 2 sizes via catalog to make sure one of them fit. Then set about convincing Geoff that the bigger outfit (both shorts and shirt) would be great for the chameleon character. When I found VoicePlay, Hoist the Colours was my first and this was my second VP video (Geoff's Monster Mash solo was my first exposure to music on RUclips!). I sat there thinking "Where on earth did this come from and why hadn't I heard of it before. But I love VoicePlay's video of this - it just makes me happy and keeps me laughing.
The band obviously have a great relationship with Ashley and similar humour - I saw a little video clip somewhere of Geoff and Ashley in the same shorts and shirt combo laughing and jigging around 🤣 Wish I could remember where I saw it.

I was scrolling through TikTok and their promotion for this came up on my fyp so after I saw that I decided to check it out. In a two-week period I first watched their _Hoist the Colors,_ _Halo,_ and this. All the members are transcendently talented, but Cesar became my MVP. It is hard to believe it was the same him.
As one of the perks of VoicePlay’s Patreon, a bunch of us were on a zoom call for awhile when Layne was arranging this. Pure genius! They wanted to have a painted backdrop for this like they did for Little Mermaid. But there wasn’t time, so Layne manipulated the house picture on the computer to look like a painting, then had it printed out on vinyl.
I knew your reaction would have me in fits of giggles and of course you didn't disappoint, adorable as ever. I love the beautiful Ashley (and Rachel Potter) but hands down, Geoff makes a gorgeous Disney princess!! 👸 I really enjoyed the fact that when they were all singing over the top of each other, their diction is so good and clear I could understand what each of them was singing, not so in the film, it was just incoherent noise to me! Yeah Layne is a silly goose, so you often get plenty of humour in his videos/arrangements. And yes Ashley is really great and basically like the unofficial 5th member of VP these days as when they do live shows she performs with them.
I had to laugh when you said Layne sounds sweet and innocent. You're not at all wrong, except for one mini they did. When they filmed horror themes it was Layne that said "hello, Clarice" just exactly like Anthony Hopkins did in Silence of the Lambs. I expected and loved Geoff's low menacing tones buy Layne freaked me the **** out with that little line. You should really go through all their minis. I'd maybe do all of one guest artist then go on to the next. They're worth the watch even though it's not a full song. They did a mini of Under Pressure from this movie too. Warning: their next drop you're going to need seat belts.

I feel so validated watching you watch this 😂 i literally gave myself an asthma attack wheeze-laughing the first time i watched the video and was very disappointed by a number of reactors either missing things or just not thinking it was that funny. Like. How?? How do you not crack up at this??? I mean Cesar killed me in the first 20sec and it just went down(up?)hill from there Edit: seconding everybody recommending If I Were a Rich Man/Girl. If you think Ashley's runs in this are impressive... just. Buckle up. You are not prepared. Second edit: the last "we don't talk about Bruno" that Layne does is an inward singing technique. It's done on an inhale, kind of like a snort, and he sometimes uses it to hit bass notes he wouldn't otherwise be able to reach. (It isn't Layne-specific-- you've heard Adam Rupp do it in the drum solo video you reacted to, during the "remix" bit toward the end, but Layne's ability to both pitch and enunciate it just completely baffles me.) I think those kicks leading up to it used the same trick? Or there might have been some technical wizardry going on there. Just because it's a cappella doesn't necessarily mean it's acoustic, after all.
Fun fact : about the last part of the song, where are weaved together all the different parts of the song, did you know that this is something called a "madrigal", a secular vocal music type that combine different melodies together ? Knowing that, I was amazed, the first time I saw the movie, about the name of the Madrigal family.

Everything about this is just great. I just love seeing you laughing and smiling is heartwarming by itself, but I also love listening to your feelings and just the WAY you express yourself. From the look of his mouth, I think the sound Layne did in the end was a Beatboxing technique called Lip-oscillation bass. Though the sound was so clean and controlled that it sounded a bit like an unusually high-register throat-bass. Also Geoff's costume-change was Ashley's idea

I was scrolling through TikTok and their promotion for this came up on my fyp so after I saw that I decided to check it out. I am so glad that I did because then after that I went down the rabbit hole and the rest is history. This is definitely in my top 5 favorites from them because it is so good. In a two-week period I first watched their _Hoist the Colors,_ _Halo,_ and this. All the members are transcendently talented, but Cesar became my MVP. It is hard to believe it was the same him.
As one of the perks of VoicePlay’s Patreon, a bunch of us were on a zoom call for awhile when Layne was arranging this. Pure genius!
They wanted to have a painted backdrop for this like they did for Little Mermaid. But there wasn’t time, so Layne manipulated the house picture on the computer to look like a painting, then had it printed out on vinyl.
I knew your reaction would have me in fits of giggles and of course you didn't disappoint, adorable as ever. I love the beautiful Ashley (and Rachel Potter) but hands down, Geoff makes a gorgeous Disney princess!! 👸 I really enjoyed the fact that when they were all singing over the top of each other, their diction is so good and clear I could understand what each of them was singing, not so in the film, it was just incoherent noise to me! Definitely check out Voiceplay featuring Ashley Diane - If I were a rich man/girl - originally in Fiddler on the roof (but Gwen Stefani did her own version). It was Ashley's first song with Voiceplay. You will hear even more of what she's capable of with her voice.
Yeah Layne is a silly goose, so you often get plenty of humour in his videos/arrangements. And yes Ashley is really great and basically like the unofficial 5th member of VP these days as when they do live shows she performs with them.

I had to laugh when you said Layne sounds sweet and innocent. You're not at all wrong, except for one mini they did. When they filmed horror themes it was Layne that said "hello, Clarice" just exactly like Anthony Hopkins did in Silence of the Lambs. I expected and loved Geoff's low menacing tones buy Layne freaked me the **** out with that little line. You should really go through all their minis. I'd maybe do all of one guest artist then go on to the next. They're worth the watch even though it's not a full song. They did a mini of Under Pressure from this movie too. Warning: their next drop you're going to need seat belts.

Second edit: the last "we don't talk about Bruno" that Layne does is an inward singing technique. It's done on an inhale, kind of like a snort, and he sometimes uses it to hit bass notes he wouldn't otherwise be able to reach. (It isn't Layne-specific-- you've heard Adam Rupp do it in the drum solo video you reacted to, during the "remix" bit toward the end, but Layne's ability to both pitch and enunciate it just completely baffles me.) I think those kicks leading up to it used the same trick? Or there might have been some technical wizardry going on there. Just because it's a cappella doesn't necessarily mean it's acoustic, after all.
Fun fact : about the last part of the song, where are weaved together all the different parts of the song, did you know that this is something called a "madrigal", a secular vocal music type that combine different melodies together ? Knowing that, I was amazed, the first time I saw the movie, about the name of the Madrigal family.

If you want more Encanto songs, there's a RUclips artist who goes by OR3O, who wrote an original song for Dolores with a few others I believe and they actually got Dolores's voice actress to sing the main part of it. It's called Turn It Down and it's pretty well done.

From the look of his mouth, I think the sound Layne did in the end was a Beatboxing technique called Lip-oscillation bass. Though the sound was so clean and controlled that it sounded a bit like an unusually high-register throat-bass.
Also Geoff's costume-change was Ashley's idea

I highly suggest watching his first video with VoicePlay (also ft. Adriana Arellano) "We're good". I love that one. And the mini "Remember me". Speaking of mini, they also did "Surface Pressure" from Encanto as a short version with Ashley.
