- This live video shows The Police at The Omni Coliseum in Atlanta on 11-03-1983. Originally The Police wanted to release another concert, but were not satisfied with their 08-02-1983 performance. So directors Godley & Creme filmed them again at The Omni in Atlanta, GA, USA on 11-02-1983 and 11-03-1983. Some audience shots from the August performance were still used for the official release.
The Police's Synchronicity Tour ran between July 23, 1983 and March 4, 1984.
During the early dates, the band resided at a mansion in Bridgehampton, New York and were flown to the concerts. This was the band's final tour as a working unit and one of the highest-grossing tours of the 1980's.
"I was never relaxed," drummer Stewart Copeland recalled. "I had so much anxiety. And I know how crazy that must sound to people who do real jobs." Copeland did however cite the August 18 show at Shea Stadium as the peak of "Policemania": "Playing Shea Stadium was big because, even though I'm a septic tank (rhyming slang for 'Yank'), The Police is an English band and I'm a Londoner - an American Londoner - so it felt like conquering America."
The November 2 and 3 shows in Atlanta were filmed and recorded for a live album and DVD.
"De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da" is the seventh track from the band's third album "Zenyatta Mondatta" recorded at Wisseloord Studios, Hilversum, Netherlands from July 7-August 7, 1980 & released on October 3, 1980. It was co-produced with Nigel Gray. It features the two hit singles: "Don't Stand So Close to Me" and "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da". It reached number one on the UK Albums Chart.
The album is the last of the Police's early era, influenced by reggae and punk and featuring few musical elements on top of the core guitar, bass, and drums. It also saw the band's lyrics turning towards political events, with Sting's "Driven to Tears" commenting on poverty and Copeland's "Bombs Away" referring to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. These themes became more prevalent in the Police's next album, Ghost in the Machine.
"De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da", according to lead singer Sting, is about the attraction that people have to simple songs. He said in a 1981 interview with the NME: "Certainly what we're producing is not elitist High Art: But; equally; I think entertainment's an art. I think my songs are fairly literate - they're not rubbish. 'De Do Do Do', for example, was grossly misunderstood: the lyrics are about banality, about the abuse of words. Almost everyone who reviewed it said, 'Oh, this is baby talk.' They were just listening to the chorus alone, obviously. But they're the same people who would probably never get through the first paragraph of Finnegan's Wake, because that's 'baby talk' too."
"I was trying to make an intellectual point about how the simple can be so powerful. Why are our favorite songs 'Da Doo Ron Ron' and 'Do Wah Diddy Diddy'? In the song, I tried to address that issue. But everyone said, 'This is bullshit, child's play.' No one listened to the lyrics. Listen to the lyrics." - Sting, Rolling Stone, 2/1988
The phrase "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da" supposedly was made up by Sting's son. Sting said of this, "In fact, my son came up with it. I've never paid him - so that's another possible lawsuit. He writes songs himself these days. He's got a lot of self-confidence - I don't know where from."
This song is also about the way politicians, priests, entertainers, and others in power use words to manipulate people. Sting called it "an articulate song about being inarticulate."
"De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da" was released as the follow-up single to "Don't Stand So Close to Me" in Britain, and was released as the debut single from Zenyatta Mondatta in America. Upon its release, the single became a top ten hit in the United Kingdom and the United States (their first in said country), reaching No. 5 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.
*The supporting act for the band during this concert was The Fixx.
Stewart Copeland - Drums & Percussion
Sting - Bass guitar, Lead Vocals (Backing vocals on Album)

*Lyrics:*
Don't think me unkind
Words are hard to find
The only cheques I've left unsigned
From the banks of chaos in my mind
And when their eloquence escapes me
Their logic ties me up and rapes me
De do do do, de da da da
Is all I want to say to you
De do do do, de da da da
Their innocence will pull me through
De do do do, de da da da
Is all I want to say to you
De do do do, de da da da
They're meaningless and all that's true
Poets, priests and politicians
Have words to thank for their positions
Words that scream for your submission
And no one's jamming their transmission
When their eloquence escapes you
Their logic ties you up and rapes you
De do do do, de da da da
Is all I want to say to you
De do do do, de da da da
Their innocence will pull me through
De do do do, de da da da
Is all I want to say to you
De do do do, de da da da
They're meaningless and all that's true
Eoh, eoh
Eoh, eoh...
Yeah
De do do do, de da da da
Is all I want to say to you
De do do do, de da da da
Their innocence will pull me through
De do do do, de da da da
Is all I want to say to you
De do do do, de da da da
They're meaningless and all that's true
Eoh
What?
Eoh
Can't hear you
Eoh
That's better
Eoh
Ya'll keep goin'
(Audience)
Eoh...

Estamos en lo cierto si decimos que está mejor que la versión grabada en estudio?siiiiiiiii no hablar. ..........
Great band and great song. I saw them in concert at the Paramont theatre in Seattle, WA and they really blew me away. It was in the 80s.
Definitely a great band. I never had the opportunity to see them in concert, but the Synchronicity concert video is enough to show me the depth of their talent. They definitely went out on top of their game; I do wish they could have settled their differences and continued on. There's not a lot of video footage of them back then, but I'm thankful they did release this concert as it was incredible!
love this and that ending is sublime!
Glad you enjoyed ypesh!

TREMENDO MUCHOS! Graci!
Ah, yes......like this one. :) Remember in 80-81 when this was on radio constantly. Good times 4 me & music too. :) In earlier post I mentioned "Andy Summer's drumming." Obviously wrong. :) Stewart Copeland is, of course. Hard to remember when there are three band members! :) Thanks 4 sharing. Great Show.
It seems like a great deal of the songs in this concert were on the radio, if I remember correctly. The Police had a way of being able to write catchy tunes that had meaning much deeper than what was apparent on the surface of the songs. (This being one of them) Even though they were not "Progressive Rock" per se, they did have progressive elements in the lyrics, and a great amount of syncopation in the drum arena. I'm glad you're enjoying the show, friend!
I send this video to my Politicians !
