Lyrics:
Don't think me unkind
Words are hard to find
The only cheques I've left unsigned
From the banks of chaos in my mind
And when their eloquence escapes me
Their logic ties me up and rapes me
De do do do, de da da da
Is all I want to say to you
De do do do, de da da da
Their innocence will pull me through
De do do do, de da da da
Is all I want to say to you
De do do do, de da da da
They're meaningless and all that's true
Poets, priests, and politicians
Have words to thank for their positions
Words that scream for your submission
And no one's jamming their transmission
Because when their eloquence escapes you
Their logic ties you up and rapes you
De do do do, de da da da
Is all I want to say to you
De do do do, de da da da
Their innocence will pull me through
De do do do, de da da da
Is all I want to say to you
De do do do, de da da da
They're meaningless and all that's true
De do do do, de da da da
Is all I want to say to you

I hope so. There's a standing message to this song too. In such times, trust yourselves but don't trust what leaders or talkmasters ("important" people) are telling you through the TV screen. For example, you may like, or may not like, Pope Francis. That is up to you. But he has nothing to offer you, like him or not. You are on your own. And it's very unfair and very hard but it is possible you can help your neighbor as you might get helped in such a time.

As a guitar player, I have always been fascinated by the wild experimentation with many different effects that Andy Summers used to do in order to get that post punk sound that characterised The Police's music. He would create a very layered sound that would end up on recordings. I know chorus and delay especially were mainstay effects in his rig although he would also incorporate an Echoplex and later invest in a Pete Cornish Board (The guitarists, Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing from the heavy metal band Judas Priest would follow suit with Pete Cornish Boards during the 80's when they started producing grander and more pristine productions such as Defenders of the Faith (1984) and Turbo (1986))
Also, this Hamer guitar remembers me pretty much Gibson's Joan Jett signature of the Melody Maker.
Flanger and Delay were mainstay
I love RUclips for this!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!! 🥰
@@priyankarchakraborty3874 Exactly.. it is more a flanger than just a chorus. So I just HAD to buy a Boss BF2 .. in 1983 or so .. :) where has it gone, I dont know...

@@zalabit927 don't forget his talking to a mix between David Bowie, Clint Eastwood and prince
Did you perhaps… Come here… Intending to ‘Pursue’ me? I see… So you are pursuing me… I understand. So then, the lid of this jar, have you tried opening it? What I’m saying is… Simply looking at that jar from the outside, you wouldn’t know for certain that what’s inside it is a ‘Fruit’, no…? Isn’t that right? Though it certainly seems to be fragments of ‘Something’… But looking from the outside, those may be potato fragments… or perhaps onion fragments… it may not look like an onion… but that definitely looks like it could be a large mushroom! How can you be so definitive in saying that what’s inside that jar is a ‘Fruit’? I’m explaining the fact that you ‘Opened’ the jar. Because you received that package, you opened the lid with your hands, you ‘Smelled’ it. And it’s because it gave off the sweet and sour scent of a ‘Fruit’… that you came into this room thinking it was a ‘Fruit’. You got all excited thinking ‘I’ve got an exclusive scoop here’, didn’t you? And then… you perhaps got some fruit juice from the lid stuck to your finger. Just a little of it. Or perhaps you were careless and licked that finger. If fate were particularly unlucky, there’s a rather good chance that when you were putting the lid back on, some fruit juice seeped into a small cut on your skin or your fingernail.
Oh shit I'm sorry

Always liked this song a lot. The Police were a great band who were very talented. Being a bassist I've always enjoyed Sting's playing style.
Almost exclusively a thumb man now too. I recall him saying he hasn't used a plectrum for 20 years or more.
We had just graduated grade 8 the summer of '81, I think we were 13 or 14 and we absolutely could NOT get enough of this song, I'm from a small town and my neighbour Bobby down the street had a cassette player and somebody got a hold of Zenyatta Mondatta somehow and the lot of us would just sit out behind Bobby's house next to the swamp and play this fuckin' song over and over and over in the early evening sun...could someone please tell me where the fuckin' time went and why everything is so, I dunno...soulless and ugly now?
Music has died with auto tune... THIS IS MUSIC
Lucky we got to grow up listening to this genius
My favorite band of all time! I grew up with them and there's no question... They had a great time making us great music. Thank you Sting, Andy and Stewart!
I’ve said it before but the Police have good chances of being the most timeless group from their era. The songwriting and syncopation is just too damn good and it hits the listener immediately. You don’t need to listen to a Police song 20 times to get it.
I doubt even the lamest lib would want to defund this police
kkkkk
no longer are you tied to what the whim of radio allows - sample away freely!
They definitley created their own genre, and perfect timing on the arrival of a little station called Mtv that would be bigger than anything in the 80s

Do you happen to know what guitar he is using??
Flanger and a Maestro Echoplex tape delay. Guitar was likely his Fender Telecaster.
@BobCob-ug3el - It definitely _wasn't_ this Hamer guitar on the actual recording, as he was given it only a few days before this video shoot, and Sting this 8-string Hamer bass, too.
