Lyrics:
Young teacher, the subject
Of schoolgirl fantasy
She wants him so badly
Knows what she wants to be
Inside her there's longing
This girl's an open page
Book marking, she's so close now
This girl is half his age
Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
Her friends are so jealous
You know how bad girls get
Sometimes it's not so easy
To be the teacher's pet
Temptation, frustration
So bad it makes him cry
Wet bus stop, she's waiting
His car is warm and dry
Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
Loose talk in the classroom
To hurt they try and try
Strong words in the staffroom
The accusations fly
It's no use, he sees her
He starts to shake and cough
Just like the old man in
That book by Nabokov
Don't stand so close to me
Please don't stand so close to me

I'm shocked that there hasn't been a comedy skit or a gag where someone finds out about a teacher-student relationship, and shouts "CALL THE POLICE!", prompting *The Police* to show up and sing this song.
Enjoy the freaking song bud
@@FendiGarcon1 I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t!
Enjoy life man it's a freaking joke.
in glee that kinda does happen! lol
Not only that! Sting was a teacher before he was in the band
Anthem of 2020.
Listen to the lyrics! This song could not be recorded today...
The song is actually about something VERY different from COVID, yet it still fits.
haha yes
Vinyl Eyezz, great song. Best listen to on vinyl.
Yes!!!!!!........ 😷
I love how the opening segment is so dark and ominous.
tbf it's a song about s*xual predation
Yeah. A bit like the rest of the song.
Stewart Copeland’s drumming just stands out so much in this song. I honestly don’t think they would’ve been as good as they were without him. One of my top five drummers.
Question: who are your other 4 favorite drummers, and to what group do they belong? I played this over and over listening to the drums 1st then the other instruments. Man, where did the time go?
YES!!! All my favs on this album are about the drums.
Absolutely. Rock solid, innovative.
@@rickeyb8812 First and foremost I’d have to mention Tim “Herb” Alexander, the drummer for Primus. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but we’re talking about very specialized musicians that would rather play Jazz but Jazz doesn’t pay the bills. I know Primus albums are like adolescence but the playing is phenomenal!
Other drummers… I hate to be that guy but I absolutely love Keith Moon. I’m not a drummer but if I was….
Who else, I love what Mitch Mitchell brought to the table with Jimi.
I know there are more technical players, just naming what I like.
As a matter of fact, Stewart Copeland played in a band with Lee Claypool. Oysterhead!!!
The Cure: Close to me
The Police: We don't do that here.
😂😂😂😂
Ellie Goulding: Close To Me
The Police: *_NO_*
De doo doo doo
Well i guess true loves kiss won't happen😁
Laugh. Out. LOUD!! 💪😆
They had the quirkiest pop songs ever. That verse is so creepy then snaps into a jingly happy chorus. So clever.
An instant classic the police are so freaking good
Their songwriting is actually really interesting. As opposed to just writing a song in a major or minor key throughout, they often made the verses in a minor key and then snapped to major for the chorus.
actually it was ska
Correction - STING’s songwriting is so good. He wrote the songs and was the voice. Without him, they’d be nothing - despite what Copeland probably thinks.
Well, they learned from the best...David bowie for one.
I love the way the song starts with the little guitar riff and the ominous bass note. The way that changes a bit but continues through the first verse then completely changes up in the chorus. It's like Prog Pop! I've listened to this song for decades but just lately come to appreciate it even more.
A lot of ominous notes in Police songs. Usually something foreboding and off-kilter, a lot of chromatic songs, relatively few happy diatonic tracks.
Thank you guys for the exposure to the new words! "Ominous," "diatonic "......etc... This is what I love about music. Learning! Unfortunately I left school at the very young age of 15. However, I feel enriched with the education and knowledge that I have obtained through lyrics of music and people speaking about music. I wouldn't have the vocabulary that I have today had I not loved music the way that I do. I wish you guys a great day! ❤😊
That book by nabikov, what a great line
I thought the same thing. Like, huh that was pretty clever.
"Lolita" by Nabakov
its Nabukov
I love how to the Police music videos where nothing more than them moving around randomly and semi-playing their instruments
JoroJojoro The better to let those lyrics sink in.
I agree
And let Sting sink in. Woof!
JoroJojoro They should have fired the choreographer, if that's how u spell it, anyway !!!
No, a chore-ographer is a person who coordinates chores.

I was in high school when The Police released Don't Stand So Close To Me and I liked it then as it was a big hit for them and it got a lot of airplay on the radio but now it's even better. If you got to grow up in the 50's through the 90's with all the golden classic movies & music, YOU were blessed.
You wouldn't get away with making a song with those lyrics today
But singing about your ‘WAP’ and your guy’s ‘Anaconda’ is fine.
😂😂 yeah it's kind of sad
I still like to think you might…
I can’t understand most lyrics so I have no idea what they are singing other than “Don’t stand so close to me”

Sting had some dark lyrics for such light sounding songs.
Imagine Sting as your teacher... daaamn

What a beautiful song to listen to while riding/driving in a car at night. The soothing base solos make it such a great song for this.

In my opinion, the best Police song by miles. Sting was at his best here.
Agreed! To me this is the definitive Police song! The chorus is otherworldly!
With only 5 LPs they wrote history. A criminally underrated mythic group.
No not under rated by a long way, the ego's got too big to contain and by the end as Sting has stated they were recording their respective parts at differing times and sometimes differing studio's to prevent friction.
How are they underrated when they are highly acclaimed, have sold hundreds of millions, and are loved all around the world?
