Neil wasnt a drummer, he was a true percussionist and will never, ever be duplicated. Truly one of my hero growing up. I hope there is a drum kit in heaven where he can play for the Angel's. RIP Neil, you are missed........

Your correct The talent this band had was scary and this is the end result rush is one of my bands that's one of my tops as a few others for the same reason like zeppelin the talent we see out of every band member back then we will never see again with the most of the junk out there today most of them now don't even know how to play an instrument or even know what one is )
They are great but they use additional backing tracks with additional layers which were managed by Geddy's pedalboard. So it was not pure 3-men performance

There were a lot of great bands in the 70's! I've seen so many in my youth. Zeppelin, Yes, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Pink Floyd, Boston, the Eagles, Skynyrd... I could go on and on but there was one band that I saw live for the first time in 1977 that just blew me away and that was these guys. It was remarkable and I'll never forget it! They were just so different and LOUD! I couldn't hear right for a few days after that concert! These guys and so many other original "arena" bands were the soundtrack to my youth and what a great time it was. I miss those days and think about them all the time. I had friends back then and we'd go to whatever concerts we could afford to go to. I'd work 60 hrs a week just so I could afford tickets to a Stones concert or to take my girlfriend to go see KISS! The last concert I went to was to see the Zack Brown Band in Charlotte, NC and those guys played for two and a half hours in 98 degree blistering heat and humidity and they didn't miss a beat the whole time! The younger generation just doesn't understand and I feel bad for them because they'll never get to experience what we did growing up.
@@walterlegere1403 I tend to disagree. If you bring them up well educated they will appreciate. My gen Z daughter collects CD's and doesn't download from Spotify. She has CDs by Yes, Rush, Maiden, Genesis, Floyd, Zeppelin, Camel, Wishbone Ash, Van Der Graaf etc.... But she also like more current modern music of her generation (including rap) Ok!!! Overall she has a very inclusive musical taste and is very tolerant of others tastes too!
When I was 14 I had Rush posters all over my room. The walls, the ceiling, my closet. everywhere full of Rush posters, I always wondered who took those photos. How did they get so CLOSE!? Well, I'm 50 now and a professional concert photographer who shoots 75-100 bands a year live. I got to stand 10 feet away from RUSH a couple years ago and photograph them live and in person for the first time. Even though I photograph popular bands all the time, I nearly had a heart attack from sheer joy shooting RUSH. Now I have my own Rush posters hanging in my office that I shot personally. Full Circle. Love you and thank you Neil, Alex and Geddy! RIP Neil.

I was privileged to see them multiple times beginning in 1979. Culminated in 2012 when my son at age 19 accompanied me to his first Rush concert. Timeless.
I took my mom to see Rush back in the day. She has two Masters. One in Music. She was a great concert pianist among other accomplishments. Mom and me to see Rush! We had a blast.
The best part about RUSH is it was always ALL about making great music, not overdone stage sets or dance routines, just the music. They genuinely cared about each other, too. After Neil was devastated by the deaths of his wife and daughter in separate instances, they put the band aside for two years and made sure he had time to recover. They tracked his progress the whole time then eagerly welcomed him back. Pretty down to earth people.
I wish I could upvote this video twice! Although I'm not the world's biggest Rush fan, this video planted a great big smile on my face, non-stop for 11 minutes. The band looked like they were having a ball, and the audience certainly were. I don't know why RUclips recommended this to me on 1 January 2024, but I'm feeling better about the new year already.

I was introduced to Rush in the early mid 80’s, they definitely are talented and kick out a sound I just don’t like it much, the police trio kicked out a more intelligent rock sound for my money. Even today, everyone knows the police, but only rushes know rush. There’s a reason for that.
There was never, nor will there ever be a band who remained friends for 40 years, were as musically talented individually and as a group as the three friends who entertained us for over 40 years! Thank you all for the memories!
1st LP I ever bought was Rush 2112. I was 15 yrs old. I bought it at Tower of Recods Sacramento Ca. 1977. 2nd LP was All the Worlds a Stage. I took it home and started to learn the songs. I still play some of them today and I am 61. RIP Professor What a mucial heart break. Guitar was my first love.
This has become my favorite bit of live Rush. It is so incredibly tight, and ending with The Spirit of Radio really does it for me - if you're having a bad day, that song will lift you up. If you're having a great day, that song will somehow make it an even better day, and live...it just really, really works.
Pure MUSICIANS to the CORE! 110%!! I read some interview with Geddy & Alex that Niel played concerts with blistered, cut hands plus having an inflammation on his feet playing on "bloody stumps and barely able to walk!" We will never see anyone like him again!

I respected them above all else. However I am kinda happy they were not truly main stream popular...made me feel like I knew something that not many others did.
Well they did make the rock and roll hall of fame. In the music industry they are very well respected. As for the general public I like the face that they never got to mega star fame levels.
I am always intrigued when somebody says the band or an individual does not get the credit they deserve .... by whose standards does one make this observation? What more does one expect them to have? Not to mention the arrogance of assuming to know what people deserve..
Grew up in the 70's, had every one of their albums. One of THE greatest arena bands of ALL TIME. And just saying, Alex Lifeson is one of the most under rated lead guitarists in history. He is rarely ever included in the "top 10", "top 50" "top 100" lists and that's just stupid. They didn't call Neil Peart "The Professor" for nothing and Geddy Lee was the indisputable voice of Rush but also one of the greatest electric base players that ever lived. He and Chris Squire were so close it was crazy. There will never be another group like this ever.
A month later and it's still tough to swallow. I think the reason it stings so much is it was totally unexpected as no one outside of his family and close friends knew he was sick. I understand his reasons for keeping it quiet and can't blame him.
All the Worlds a Stage was one of my first albums. I've been enjoying Rush since the mid-70s when I realized what music was...they invented "Progressive" rock. Unbelievable talent, lyrics, etc. RIP Neil.
One of the most underrated bands on earth. Saw them in Leeds Queens Hall 1981 ish. Neils drum solo was amazing, He must have 10000 bits of equipment and he hit every one of them RIP
Saw them about that time, think it would have been Leicester De Montfort Hall. I remember Neil's kit was four sided and closed behind him when he'd sat down. He had a freakin walk-in drum kit. And yes he hit every bit, a lot!
Brings tears to these now 51 yr old eyes to know that these 3 will never be together like this again. Here is to Neil and all those great songs and most of all, memories we will have with us for all time to remember him, and this great band that was never 1 person any bigger than the band itself. I too am 51. Found Rush in 82 on Signals. And like a fire it burned so bright....47 live shows and I saw my 47th in my 46th year of life. Was hoping to get one for every year for a long time.. Alas....2020...and no hope of a "one last time". Got my tickets for Neil's Lifetime Celebration in Canada and my guess is they won't let me in to go to it in October.
I'm now 58 and haven'd these guys in a few yrs. I've got goose bumps!! What a treasure they were and in many ways, still are. I was in 6th grade when I learned of them. Music can bend time better than Star Trek.
Three intensely intelligent musicians ran into each other and created this masterpiece band. One in a zillion. Saw them many times, often by myself just to soak it all in. I LOVE you Rush. Miss you so very much Neil.

Me too !!! I went to a few shows alone and in the 1990's drove to Sacramento from Sonoma County without a ticket hoping to find one in the parking lot. Some dude comes up to me and asks if I want to buy a ticket. Then a black guy with dreads asked me the same question and I bought a ticket from him for $20 bucks, and the white guy asked me, "You're gonna buy a ticket from that guy ?" It was TENTH ROW in the center !!!! I'm the guy who made the Geddy Lee for President '92 bumper stickers that I sold at the Mountain View show and it covered the cost for my ticket, and all my buddies who came with me.

He could listen to Rap, but had to have head phones on! He obliged. I turned him on to classic R&R and he is a total classic rock&roller. Over the years we have seen Boston, Styx, Kiss, Tom Petty, Steve Miller, Peter Frampton, ZZ Top, David Knopfler, AC-DC and others together. We try to make two to four shows a year. We saw RUSH in Houston on their last tour. We agree it was in our top three list of best shows! & I we totally love this video! ~To paraphrase your awesome comment: Dad: Turn this Rap off son! One of the best thing about Rush to me is that they never stopped evolving or trying new things. They never restricted themselves to one sound or style. The words "Rush doesn't do that" weren't in their vocabulary. They dabbled in metal, prog, reggae, new wave, synth rock, and anything else that tickled their fancy, and somehow made all of it sound like Rush. Not everyone liked everything they did, but few other bands had their curiosity or versatility, and because of that, their catalog is one of the most diverse in recorded music.
that is a sign of a truly great band look at zz top same three guys for 47 years they do what they want when they want and don't give two s%$#s about radio play same with rush.
What I love about Rush is that they did things their way regardless of pressures from record labels, fans, agents or anyone else. They said fuck it all, we're in this for ourselves; if you like what we do, that's great, but if not, we don't really care because we genuinely love it and that's all that matters. That is the way to live your life.
My favorite 5 bands of all time..Rush, Queensryche, Pink Floyd, Scorpions and Iron Maiden....need I say more? I saw Rush twice, Scorpions and Iron Maiden once each. Rush always took the cake. Can't wait to see Neil Peart play the drums again when I leave this world and move on. Each of these bands were not only incredible musicians, but their lyricism actually said something, every song.
To put it into context, there’s good rock bands who are tradesmen, there are great rock bands who are craftsmen and then there is Rush, master craftsmen, they are in a league of their own. Being in Australia I never got to see them live, thank goodness for the posted videos.
I remember drawing the RUSH logo and the Rush star on my books in High School (class of 79) took my daughter to see them in Hershey about 10 years ago telling her that Hannah Montana wasn't going to be her first concert. And she was going to see the best drummer in the world. She loves Rush to this day. RIP Neil.
I'm 54 and only just discovered rush because moving pictures tribute band came to my local music venue. Wow. Glad I went. Love the moving pictures, and now love rush!
Perhaps technically sound isn't the right category to put them true. But they are three musicians that can singergize extremely well and create a very full and lively music. Or did at least. And they are very good in their art.

I've seen Rush live only 4 times but every time they blew my socks off...there are a lot of great drummers. Some are fast but to me Neil Peart's drumming was truly amazing. He was a true rock drummer and a dynamic performer. I miss him terribly. RIP Neil. ❤ U man!!❤

WOW, that was the same tour I was introduced to Rush…1974?? 75?? I actually have a poster from that show…ticket prices were like $5.50 per! Kiss headlined…never again was that the case!

All these years later and this is still my favorite concert I have ever attended. The intro really got the crowd fired up. The crowd in Charlotte absolutely exploded at the first note of Bastille Day. Guess I'm not the only one who enjoys the deeper cuts that don't get much play in concert or radio.
Same here! I was about 16 when I studied Rush music. I learnt playing drums listening to Kiss and Rush :) This is so cool! Even more, THE Canadian Rockband recording their 40th anniversary tour in Frankfurt Festhalle, Germany. Makes me happy. This venue was my second living room for many years. So much legacy, for the location and the band as well. Perfect fit. I'll never forget the sadness I felt when I learned that Neil passed away. It was like the day when Freddie passed away. What a loss....
I went to see them at Nassau Coliseum back in the late 70' early 80's ( friends & I felt like we were old men) we were listing to them from their 1st album & we are all in our 60's now.
This was a great concert -- July 2004 / White River Amphitheater; remember it like it was yesterday and hard to believe almost 20 years ago. Greatest band ever. RIP Neil Peart.

If you listen to his evolution of playing and style over the years, it's incredible. I dont think I've heard any guitarist evolve like him. His guitar playing across the board is amazing but on PRESTO its mind boggling. Cheers!
I'd followed Rush since the early 80s and they grew to be my favorite band. So much complexity in both music and lyrics. Got every one of their albums plus concert videos. FINALLY got to see them live on their Clockwork Angels tour and it was the best concert I have ever seen (probably forever). They were on stage for 3 hours. Will never forget it. Fantastic talent and Neil Peart is the best drummer all time, in my opinion. RIP Neil and thank you as well Alex and Teddy!

That’s insane! RUSH is so great live! Their body of work is so big that they are one of only a few bands that could even create such a great intro and still have tons of music left over to play. Will always love these guys!
Saw them in 1977 in a small venue (Thunder Bay, Ont) @Fort William Gardens and that was the ONLY time I saw them live! That was their Fly By Night Tour. That was also my very 1st live concert and it has left me with great memories! I was 19 then and I'm 62 now! It truly was unforgettable!

The best part about RUSH is it was always ALL about making great music, not overdone stage sets or dance routines, just the music. They genuinely cared about each other, too. After Neil was devastated by the deaths of his wife and daughter in separate instances, they put the band aside for two years and made sure he had time to recover. They tracked his progress the whole time then eagerly welcomed him back. Pretty down to earth people.

I wish I could upvote this video twice! Although I'm not the world's biggest Rush fan, this video planted a great big smile on my face, non-stop for 11 minutes. The band looked like they were having a ball, and the audience certainly were. I don't know why RUclips recommended this to me on 1 January 2024, but I'm feeling better about the new year already.

I was introduced to Rush in the early mid 80’s, they definitely are talented and kick out a sound I just don’t like it much, the police trio kicked out a more intelligent rock sound for my money. Even today, everyone knows the police, but only rushes know rush. There’s a reason for that.

1st LP I ever bought was Rush 2112. I was 15 yrs old. I bought it at Tower of Recods Sacramento Ca. 1977.
2nd LP was All the Worlds a Stage. I took it home and started to learn the songs. I still play some of them today and I am 61.

This has become my favorite bit of live Rush. It is so incredibly tight, and ending with The Spirit of Radio really does it for me - if you're having a bad day, that song will lift you up. Three great musicians and friends performing at the highest level for four decades. Not recognized to the degree they deserve!
I respected them above all else. However I am kinda happy they were not truly main stream popular...made me feel like I knew something that not many others did.
Well they did make the rock and roll hall of fame. In the music industry they are very well respected. As for the general public I like the face that they never got to mega star fame levels.

I am always intrigued when somebody says the band or an individual does not get the credit they deserve .... by whose standards does one make this observation? What more does one expect them to have? Not to mention the arrogance of assuming to know what people deserve..
Grew up in the 70's, had every one of their albums. One of THE greatest arena bands of ALL TIME. And just saying, Alex Lifeson is one of the most under rated lead guitarists in history. He is rarely ever included in the "top 10", "top 50" "top 100" lists and that's just stupid. They didn't call Neil Peart "The Professor" for nothing and Geddy Lee was the indisputable voice of Rush but also one of the greatest electric base players that ever lived. He and Chris Squire were so close it was crazy. There will never be another group like this ever.

Saw them about that time, think it would have been Leicester De Montfort Hall. I remember Neil's kit was four sided and closed behind him when he'd sat down. He had a freakin walk-in drum kit. And yes he hit every bit, a lot!

I too am 51. Found Rush in 82 on Signals. And like a fire it burned so bright....47 live shows and I saw my 47th in my 46th year of life. Was hoping to get one for every year for a long time.. Alas....2020...and no hope of a "one last time". Got my tickets for Neil's Lifetime Celebration in Canada and my guess is they won't let me in to go to it in October.
I'm now 58 and haven'd these guys in a few yrs. I've got goose bumps!! What a treasure they were and in many ways, still are. I was in 6th grade when I learned of them. Music can bend time better than Star Trek.

Me too !!! I went to a few shows alone and in the 1990's drove to Sacramento from Sonoma County without a ticket hoping to find one in the parking lot. Some dude comes up to me and asks if I want to buy a ticket. Then a black guy with dreads asked me the same question and I bought a ticket from him for $20 bucks, and the white guy asked me, "You're gonna buy a ticket from that guy ?" It was TENTH ROW in the center !!!! I'm the guy who made the Geddy Lee for President '92 bumper stickers that I sold at the Mountain View show and it covered the cost for my ticket, and all my buddies who came with me.

When my son, who is now 29 was in Jr. High & HS, I told him I would not allow Rap to be played in the house if I could hear it. He could listen to Rap, but had to have head phones on! He obliged.
I turned him on to classic R&R and he is a total classic rock&roller. Over the years we have seen Boston, Styx, Kiss, Tom Petty, Steve Miller, Peter Frampton, ZZ Top, David Knopfler, AC-DC and others together.
We try to make two to four shows a year. We saw RUSH in Houston on their last tour. We agree it was in our top three list of best shows! & I we totally love this video!

I'm Canadian as well, but I think it's also like the Moon landing.
One of the best thing about Rush to me is that they never stopped evolving or trying new things. They never restricted themselves to one sound or style. The words "Rush doesn't do that" weren't in their vocabulary. They dabbled in metal, prog, reggae, new wave, synth rock, and anything else that tickled their fancy, and somehow made all of it sound like Rush. Not everyone liked everything they did, but few other bands had their curiosity or versatility, and because of that, their catalog is one of the most diverse in recorded music.
It's one of the reasons I love Rush. If I want to hear something in nearly any rock-related style there's at least one Rush song that covers it.

What I love about Rush is that they did things their way regardless of pressures from record labels, fans, agents or anyone else. They said fuck it all, we're in this for ourselves; if you like what we do, that's great, but if not, we don't really care because we genuinely love it and that's all that matters. That is the way to live your life.

My favorite 5 bands of all time..Rush, Queensryche, Pink Floyd, Scorpions and Iron Maiden....need I say more? I saw Rush twice, Scorpions and Iron Maiden once each. Rush always took the cake. Can't wait to see Neil Peart play the drums again when I leave this world and move on. Each of these bands were not only incredible musicians, but their lyricism actually said something, every song.
Living in New York/New Jersey area we often caught Rush twice every tour. Great memories.
To put it into context, there’s good rock bands who are tradesmen, there are great rock bands who are craftsmen and then there is Rush, master craftsmen, they are in a league of their own. Being in Australia I never got to see them live, thank goodness for the posted videos.

I remember drawing the RUSH logo and the Rush star on my books in High School (class of 79) took my daughter to see them in Hershey about 10 years ago telling her that Hannah Montana wasn't going to be her first concert. And she was going to see the best drummer in the world. She loves Rush to this day. RIP Neil.

I've seen Rush live only 4 times but every time they blew my socks off...there are a lot of great drummers. Some are fast but to me Neil Peart's drumming was truly amazing. He was a true rock drummer

The intro really got the crowd fired up. The crowd in Charlotte absolutely exploded at the first note of Bastille Day.

I went to see them at Nassau Coliseum back in the late 70' early 80's ( friends & I felt like we were old men) we were listing to them from their 1st album & we are all in our 60's now.
This was a great concert -- July 2004 / White River Amphitheater; remember it like it was yesterday and hard to believe almost 20 years ago. Greatest band ever. RIP Neil Peart.

I’ve been a Rush fan for 40 years, the more I listen the more I appreciate Alex Lifeson, very underrated, and I don’t think you will see musicianship in 3 artists as you will in Rush anytime soon...
If you listen to his evolution of playing and style over the years, it's incredible. I dont think I've heard any guitarist evolve like him. His guitar playing across the board is amazing but on PRESTO its mind boggling. Cheers!

I'd followed Rush since the early 80s and they grew to be my favorite band. So much complexity in both music and lyrics. Got every one of their albums plus concert videos. FINALLY got to see them live on their Clockwork Angels tour and it was the best concert I have ever seen (probably forever). They were on stage for 3 hours. Will never forget it. Fantastic talent and Neil Peart is the best drummer all time, in my opinion. RIP Neil and thank you as well Alex and Teddy!

All things considered, such as pure talent, professionalism, integrity, body of work,longevity, fanbase, record sales,,,,on and on.Arguably , the best rock band of all time. I have been a huge fan since 1980, and was fortunate enough to have seen them live aboot 25 times. RIP Neil.
This might be my fave Rush video of all time. So lucky to be at R40 in Chicago. These pros changed my musical life.

Beautiful, this man was a true artist. A thinking man that wrote deep lyrics that still resonate with me at 52 years old. But that was not enough he became one of the most complex drummers to ever exist. Neil you touched my soul brother. Thank you for the art. So saddened to hear of your passing. I am the same age as you, 52. Neil was such an inspiration to me and all the years growing up with Rush as my all time favorite rock band. He may be gone but my memories will forever last in my soul and mind forever.
Such a great band. Each member contributes so much to their sound. One of the best concept albums 2112, amazing from beginning to end
flawless transitions through many of their iconic song melodies....brilliant and amazing...I so miss them preforming live...

Same here. Saw them in Montreal, Albany and Binghampton.
Saw them in 1977 in a small venue (Thunder Bay, Ont) @Fort William Gardens and that was the ONLY time I saw them live! That was their Fly By Night Tour. That was also my very 1st live concert and it has left me with great memories! I was 19 then and I'm 62 now! It truly was unforgettable!
7 concerts for me spread out over 30 odd years....from the first moment I loaded Moving Pictures in my cassette deck I was a teue believer
