My biggest RUSH honor was having two extra tickets to a show. I called everyone. I then instructed my girlfriend to drive to an old, life long friend who used to watch my band play RUSH songs as a kid. I knocked on the door 1 hour before the show "Hey man!!" he said. "What ya doing tonight" I asked. "Nothing" he answered. "You are now" as I handed two tickets. I later saw him and friend in the crowd. Smiles. He died 12 weeks later from pancreatic cancer. Still jerks a tear today. (Time Machine Tour)
That’s a good memory my friend. I’m happy he was Alive and Ready to receive the Tickets. I would like to believe he got to meet Neil in Person, where ya Can meet a stranger like was long awaited, where no one walks away from meeting their Drum/Band Hero unhappy…

Was at this show, beauty weather. First DW set for Neil and the last we see of wind chimes used as well. Also first use of Roland V Drums iirc. Weeks later as others have noted, his daughter died in that single car accident. I was up north at the girlfriends parents house near Owen Sound, Ontario. I drive to the nearest town on an early Sunday morning to get the Toronto Sun newspaper. Got back, brewed some coffee, went out to the deck, dead quiet as others were sleeping. Sat down, lit a smoke and read the news in the entertainment section about Selena dying. Not going to lie, I shed tears reading that. Others woke up around then and wondered what was up. Girlfriend knew I was a huge Rush fan so she understood but the others did not. Sad day for Rush fans. And then his wife died 10 months later. Truly aweful for any person to go through, losing your entire family so quickly. Just thought I would share. Life can be short so be nice to people as it can all end in a heartbeat.

This is one of my favorite Neil Peart drum solos to watch. His solos evolved over the years, There is just something about this particular arrangement that I really love.
Exactly! Everytime Neil heard or learned something new that he liked he would incorporate it into his solo, and he even said that the beginning of his solo for the Snakes & Arrows tour, was all improvised, he just played what he felt fit. RIP Neil, 2020 Sucks.
The 3 members of Rush have more pure talent and skill than ALL of todays so called musicians put together! Having seen them live 5 times in my life they remain one of my all time fave bands (especially live) No other band of just 3 guys can produce a sound anything like this!
Watch the Mexican band the warning. 3 sisters rocking the hell out of it, they admmire Rush and Pink floyd, people say the drummer is gonna be Peart, Portnoy, Mangini and Moon in one person, and she's the lead singer in many songs lol
Completely awesome.. .It never ceases too amaze me... And such a fantastic lyricist... We knew it already but Life's really unfair to some of us... He had a bright destiny for a good part of his life but so much pain after that... and there was so much hard work and dedication behind what was achieved... R.I.P. Neil.
Ive watched this LEAVE THAT THING ALONE alot, and every time i cant help but to belive NEIL has/had SUPERNATURAL ABILITIES when it came to his drumming. R.I.P. DRUM MASTER.
I once won tickets to a Blind Date - a beer company sponsored event where ticket winners didn't know who was playing. The concert was in a smallish club in Toronto. 700 people. When we got there we found out it was Rush playing. I got to stand right by the stage for the entire concert. I'm still in disbelief from how talented those three men are.
Three absolute masters of their craft. This song still gives me chills and goosebumps. One of my all time favorite musical interludes. Neil, you were the greatest of all drummers, dead or alive.
And when the Professor was done...he hopped on his BMW and shunpiked it to the next show. Much admiration and thanks to all three of you for sharing your talents with us for all those years. No matter how much Neil's passing leaves a void, we are much better people for it.

I am a man of 27 years. Grew up with hip hop, grime, drum and bass, house and tech music. I have recently become aware of the talents of Rush and this piece of music is amazing. The medley from 10:45 - 11:30 reminds me of a tech or jungle track drum beat and I would love to hear it mixed into one.
Buddy Rich died quite a while ago. Rush fans are so deluded on a mass scale. There are hundreds of Drummers in bands that I don't even like that are better Drummers. Drummers in genres like Slayer and Anthrax etc. are very technical Drummers, so was Neil, very technical, though you can't dance to it without looking like an epilectic. The Rhythm Guitar is meant to be in time with the Drums in Rock. In good quality Rock music the vocal patterns indicate when there are Tom Fills and Cymbal crashes. If I want a Drummer to be at odds with all the other instruments I'll listen to Jazz. I could list all the really great bands and Drummers, though I would be wasting my time. It's very difficult to explain to the musically illiterate people. Some of my favourite bands were/are Alternative, Independent, DIY artists that only released a few Singles and a couple of Albums, yet the quality was sublime. I'd rather watch paint dry than listen to a dull and boring band like Rush.
Alan Strom you stink and you cannot even spell Rush. Why are you here if your bashing the band? Been seeing these guys live since Roll the Bones. your opinion is disrespectful and absolutely not welcome here so You should Exit Stage Left.
Alan Strom sounds like someone’s jealous of Neil, as you should be, because he was 1000x the human being you’ll ever be. You’re the delusional one if you think the drummers from slayer and anthrax are better than Neil. There’s no way you can come close to Neil. And how is the band dull? They played hard rock in the beginning of their career, to more complex and technical pieces like la villa from hemispheres. And eventually they ventured to more electronic things like GUP. They’re the most well rounded prog rock band in existence, and easily the greatest band of all time. You sir, should leave.
@@alanstrom2221 I’m sorry Slayer & Anthrax suck imo, and Neil is way better then the drummers from those bands. Also, calling Rush dull is disrespectful, maybe you are deluded, and if you don’t like Rush, then why are you even watching this video and commenting?
@@mitchmaher & J Rock Thank You, this Alan Strom guy is just disrespectful, and I’ve never liked Slayer or Anthrax, and, imo, Neil is 10x better then their drummers, and I bet their drummers would say the same thing. +EddieLivesOnLincoln What do you mean?
+Hamse This show was about 2 months before Neil's daughter would die in a single-car accident. 10 months later, his wife would die of cancer. Needless to say that this changed his life forever.
Aaaaa okay!
Just shows how your life can change in an instant, all part of Gods plan and Niel is an inspiration to NEVER GIVE UP AND NEVER GIVE IN - just work harder!!
Love you Niel!
This was Neil probably at his peak in terms of technique and dynamics - and yes, the tragedy that came just a couple months later and lasted for years.
Rest in Peace Professor - you brought so much and inspired musicians in Canada and worldwide with your playing, your writing and especially your continual drive to improve. I hope there's a good place out there and you're getting to talk with all the great intellects of humanity and jam with the greatest musicians. Peace brother!
Robert Svilpa agree with you 100%
“There is never love without pain”
RIP Neil best drummer & lyricists EVER!
And millions loved him. Or the him he made available. Thanks for sharing your light Neil.
You are truly missed.
He'd probably say
"Who the heck are you talking to? "
Corinne Webb I hate when they say females don’t like Rush! I’ve been a rush fanatic since I was 10 in 1974.
Three men on a stage making such a sublime magic sound - and then Neil Peart launches into his solo - forever brilliant !
Neil had expanded his percussion techniques at this time and this is a great showcase of the great musician he was. Alex and Geddy were equally proficient musicians and songwriters which is what made them such a great band.
The man was a percussionist machine, not just a drummer, a percussionist musician!!! He will be missed by not only Rush fans, but by anyone who can appreciate writing, lyrics, great stories, and by all means of course, his epic phenomenal talent playing the drums!!! Rest in Peace Neil, we will forever be listening to and walking to your beat!!!
This is one of my favorite Neil Peart drum solos to watch. His solos evolved over the years, There is just something about this particular arrangement that I really love.
Metronomes used Neil Peart as a reference.
the master of metronome is Simon Philips or Vinnie COlaiuta :)
Made me smile, nice
yeah dude thats used up alreaDY
phenix returns Jeff Porcaro was the best metronome ever
Lol. Not back in the 80’s they didn’t.
Neil's solos differ every performance. He incorporated everything he did just in different sequence. Which is totally amazing 😲
Exactly! Everytime Neil heard or learned something new that he liked he would incorporate it into his solo, and he even said that the beginning of his solo for the Snakes & Arrows tour, was all improvised, he just played what he felt fit. RIP Neil, 2020 Sucks.
What a blessing to have grown up with RUSH . My LOVE of RUSH can not be overstated.
Best drummer to ever lived. RIP mr.peirt
the hardest working band in rock history.
tim lamb I guess that's why they call them the working men....
i think zappa and jethro tull more....
What r u sayin?
Best Band of all time!!!
Not anymore. :D
Neil Peart is so awesome. I have never seen anyone play drums like that. He is the best.
Holy jesus that snare drum. And what a great mix.
Neil Peart ....................najcudowniejszy perkusista na planecie Ziemia
The 3 members of Rush have more pure talent and skill than ALL of todays so called musicians put together! Having seen them live 5 times in my life they remain one of my all time fave bands (especially live) No other band of just 3 guys can produce a sound anything like this!
The police? ..RUSH IS DEFINITELY BETTER IN MY BOOK , BUT THE POLICE ARE COOL TOO..?
Primus.
Fo sho, the best trio ever! 2nd place........Cream
Watch the Mexican band the warning. 3 sisters rocking the hell out of it, they admmire Rush and Pink floyd, people say the drummer is gonna be Peart, Portnoy, Mangini and Moon in one person, and she's the lead singer in many songs lol
Drummer Guy not as complex not technical
The greatest percussionist lyricist from the greatest prog/rock band ever!!!!! RIP Neil Peart!!🇨🇦
Best power drum solo I've ever seen from the Professor...
Three of the very best of all time. How lucky are we all to live with Rush music. 🤘🤘🤘💯🤘
The Quarter note kick beat never wavers.....the high hat never wavers....perfection...
And when the Professor was done...he hopped on his BMW and shunpiked it to the next show.
Much admiration and thanks to all three of you for sharing your talents with us for all those years. No matter how much Neil's passing leaves a void, we are much better people for it.
Talent beyond belief. R.i.p. you will never be surpassed
Neil Peart is the reason I play drums. Thank you for all the years of inspiration innovation. I never got to see you live and it's sad that you are retiring! Miss you already!
Y'all know that when you stick an ad right in the middle of an awesome performance like this, I immediately add it to my "will never buy" list?
I keep a list. Honestly.
Those responsible,....should be taken out and FLOGGED
are you a communist sir?
Ya these ads have gotten ridiculous it really sucks
The G.O.A.T. Is right here right now. Thank you peart. You make me a better man. Having seen you 27 times from cali to madison square garden in 40 years. You made me. Your lyrics made me your percussion excellence made me bow in appreciation and humility.
DUMFOUNDED ! IS ALL I CAN SAY AS TO THE MASTERY OF MR. PEART. THERE HAS TO BE A SPEACIAL PLACE IN HEAVEN FOR HIM AND HIS KIT. R.I.P.
Excellent...
RUSH is RUSH...
Neil Pert just left us 4 days ago 💔
"Love and Light" to His Soul
RIP dear Brother in Rock 😪
He's together again with Jackie and Selena Z.J. Condolences to Carrie and Olivia and all close friends. RIP our friend.
Rush marcou minha adolescência , três caras incríveis e Neil era um super herói na bateria ... obrigada you tube por manter a memória viva dessas pessoas tão talentosas aqui pra gente .
RIP Neil Peart.
Neil Peart, 1-10-20 RIP , you will be missed. One of the greatest drummers the world has ever known :(
Neil’s drum solo is like watching the fireworks show on the 4th of July. Totally awesome!!!!!
Nothing short of the greatest drummer ever! RIP Buddy!
Oh and @Alan Strom Which drummers do you think are better, Neil and Buddy or the drummers from Slayer and Anthrax, I’m going with Neil and Buddy.
Best group in this century, crisp and clean perfect. Total masters of their instruments. Perfection.
It's killing me inside. I can't believe Neil Peart is gone. Truly truly one of the all time inspirational greats.
You will be sorely missed by millions.
I’m sitting here w/ the new Neil Peart tribute edition of Modern Drummer, and I couldn’t even get through the first page w/o some tears. Truly remarkable.
Plus, the drums themselves sound so good on this recording. They just explode from the speakers.
Amazing!
Every RUSH song emits sooo much emotion its unbelievable. Never had a chance to see these three live but i can't begin to imagine the vibe in this concert venue. ❤❤❤
RIP Professor. Greatest drummer ever.
words can`t even describe how much I still like rush im 55 for god sakes. Listening to this on a good system is like loving it all over again and again...thanks RUSH for leaving good memories in my brain backup cells :)
I'm 56 and I've seen Rush 27 times never gets old
@@brucepoulin7140 no one's going them again as they've split up
53 here. No, they never get old, as they are timeless, and speak through all time...
Neil is a machine on those drums. I've always wondered how in the hell can just three guys possibly make that much noise! They were great.
Suddenly, you were gone from all the lives you left your mark upon. Neils words never so relevant as now. Listening to them so much now. Loving the music old and new.❤️
Who the F dislikes this....best drummer of our age!
He was from another planet, now he's on his way home. Rest in Peace Neil.
Rejoining the elder race of men.
Have you safe trip home Neil. And by the way THANK YOU!
Have you safe trip home Neil. And by the way THANK YOU!
I. Just. Love. These. Guys!! ❤️ Miss not having a new album to look forward to ☹️
THESE GUYS ARE UNREAL ONLY THREE GUYS MAKING ALL THAT MUSIC JUST LOVE IT.........
3 x prodigy =can move mountains :)
In a good and lengthy interview documentary, Geddy Lee refers to the old adage "less is more." He clarified that when you are Rush "More is more." He'll take what ever advantage he can of instruments and technology to create additional sounds on stage.
Now that is what I call a drum solo
Seen multiple vids of this song and this is the BEST ONE. Thanks DVD FAB !!!🙏👏👏👏👏👍
I like Mangini, Portnoy, Grusin (sp), Jason Rullo, Weckl.....but nobody gives me more joy than to watch the PROFESSOR!!!!
he's a poor man's CARL PALMER, whom was Peart's secret idol. (ALL of it came from Carl: the tubular bells, wood blocks, etc.)
Agree 10000% with ya there!! The GREATEST!!!
I meant to reply to you Steve Schreiner!!!! No one will never ever be able to play like Neil Peart!! He has the most complex drum patterns of anyone!! And plays with the most Endurance ever!! Playing for 2 straight hours every show so many days a week!Of the hardest hitting drummer of all time, and with the most Difficult Rhythmic patterns of any PROFESSIONAL DRUMMER OUT THERE!!!!! NEIL PEART DEFINITELY THE GREATEST EVER!!!!!
umpy Goodness no need to apply labels. Enjoy one or the other or both. Totally different styles and their own sound.
And Peart is certainly no “poor man’s anything”. Has influenced a countless number of drummers. As has Palmer. Stop comparing. Not a competition.
umpy Goodness Carl sucks
A drumming god. Never will be replaced.
Neil Peart will be remembered forever. He was truly exceptional.
and that drum solo is why i will forever remeber and respect Neil Peart God Bless
A rock solid band. 3 amazing musician's who wrote brilliant songs. Super great people as well . RUSH.
Brilliant performance from the Professor
Dark days and truly awful news yesterday when I heard that he was gone
Tears in my eyes then and now
RIP my musical hero
These, kids, are what were called "musicians". most calling themselves musicians today are just computer programmers. RIP N.P.
i knew it was over when DJs could join the musicians' union
Neil was in great physical shape here everything was clicking on all cylinders this is a great performance
His best drum solo on RUclips imo.
And in a matter of weeks his world imploded.

Seen this amazing trio 3 times and they were better each time. Always working on their game! Amazing musicians! Miss you Neil. RUSH ON!!
Geddy is one of most amazing musicians ever... couple that with Alex and his guitar virtuoso... and if that’s not enough...Neal is straight in the pocket freaking amazing, plus he wrote all the lyrics.... c’mon, best band ever! Oh, wait.. I forgot, they’re a fucking trio! Drop the mic!
It doesn’t matter, they are the best band ever. Geddy Lee Number one bassist of all time, Neil number one all time, and Alex #4 All Time, only behind number one Hendrix number two, Page, number 3 Eddie Van Halen!!
Hmmm.... No Love for Beck i see...
@@YedMan01 Alex Lifeson is better than both Page and Hendrix
@@thomasandersondrums2260 I would like to believe this also, because Rush is my favorite Band and in my opinion the 3 of them are GOAT, however the experts think Page is better, and Page had stated that Hendrix is the GOAT , plus many other experts say Eddie Van Halen is the GOAT, but each guitarist plays in a different genre, so it is hard to compare
@@YedMan01 in what universe does Eddie even make the same list as Alex? Or page tank higher than Alex in actual talent, ability and productive creativity?
I've seen them all live, watched hours of videos neither of those 2 come close to the
Neil always made it look so easy👍
RIP you will be missed by many....🙏
Yes THE Professor Will be missed!
RIP the professor on the drum kit! You wwhere one of the greatest rock drummers!
The greatest
Best ever, hands down
there isn't a man alive that can touch his talent
I saw them 11 times, I closed my eyes and just listened to Neils mastery during the drum solos lives every time. I knew it was special every time.
I was fortunate enough to see those guys live and what a performance
