Absolutely! My first rock concert was Rush’s ‘Moving Pictures’ tour. My cousin took me when I was just 13 years old. I saw Rush every tour to follow. This video reminds us all how truly great they were! Sorely missed!😔🥁🎹🎤🎸🎶
Admit it, true RUSH fans. This jam is so close to The Top of all their jams. It may be the actual top. And yes, it's easy for normal folks to "hate" RUSH; but for those who know, they simply know. "Science, like nature." What a moment in time, never to be repeated. Long live Gen X.
When I turned 18, my sister gave me a copy of Permanent Waves as a birthday gift. After hearing 'Natural Science' for the first time, I was utterly gobsmacked by its power, majesty and deep meaning. The pictures that Neil's lyrics painted in my mind were simply stunning, too. 'Natural Science' has always been among my most favourite Rush songs.
Geddy's voice was truly amazing during this tour. Neil wrote about it in one of his books too. The whole crew praised Geddy because he nailed it every evening. Neil wrote that they all were so proud of themselves, because they reached their peak as musicians. I think I know what he was talking about.🙂👌
Indeed This tour had them all hitting on their best performances. Vocals after this tour were very wobbly. Took in two shows on this tour - Once in a Ice Hockey Arena in Ottawa as well as the Harbourfront in Toronto. Saw them first for Signals tour (Had backstage pass and sat on their road cases - beaming the whole time.
That's interesting! His voice had dropped noticeably by this point but IMO the vocals in this show were overall better than those on R30 and Rio shows regardless. He started the Time Machine tour on fire but things got pretty dodgy after that, if I recall correctly. Still, incredible that he could do it at all, let alone with those physically demanding bass lines, keyboards, MIDI triggering, etc... one of a kind musician, and one of my heroes! Geddy forever! :D
@@fgs2732 I also think it's Peart's best album. He changes the groove so many times on Natural Science and in my mind, it's his cleanest performance. Of course, he is very precise on everything he plays...lol. it
To me this is the best song from the Permanent Waves album. Alex's guitar and Geddy's voice just draws you in at the first part, then they rock out with one of the hardest time signatures to count after the first bridge. A brilliant and mesmerizing song all around.
They were only disrespected by some stupid critics. Fortunately critics realized how wrong they were, when bands and musicians started to cite Rush as an influence in the 90s. :)

The new guy. Lol I still find it hilarious that after more than 4 decades together they still teased the professor about being the new guy It was a very sad day when the news broke. I've been a RUSH fan since the 70s and the older I get the more I am amazed that 3 guys were able to do so much sound. In some multiverse I'll bet that the professor was an extrovert and loved doing the meet and greet things while still being your favorite drummers favorite drummer.
I love how in the live version they do that opening chorus twice in a row versus just once on the album version. It's such a gritty funky part so nice to hear it extended
I saw this tour two nights in a row back to back from the front section both times. I've been to hundreds of concerts, but those two shows really stand out as the best I've ever seen in my life. RIP Neil.
OUTSTANDING! There was a period of time between 1978 and 1984 that I saw Rush everywhere. Little 3500 seat halls, outdoor fairgrounds, stadiums, arenas, you name it. They never disappointed.
Such great memories of going to Rush concerts in the Seattle and Portland area and then camping on the Oregon coast for a week or so. How many times I sang this song to myself (and my wife) while we were out exploring the varied coastline. Rest in Peace, Professor.
Simply stated, "This song rocks". Natural Science and The Camera Eye are a few of my favorite RUSH songs, ever... But then again, I can't think of anything of theirs that I don't like..... Alex, Geddy & Neil,,,,,, we're looking forward to the next time you make it back to Pittsburgh... Thank you for the music guys......
I got to see them in Pittsburgh for the Clockwork Angels tour, it was my birthday. Drove all the way up from VA to meet relatives there and see the show. My only regret was not seeing them in VA Beach after.
One of my best friends and his oldest brother introduced me to rush around 1980. Later on i was playing natural science, and my friend said he didn't care for that song. I was like c'mon man, that's everything rush is. But he preferred tracks like fly by night and lakeside park. To be fair, he was into country music too and i can't listen to anything country, at least since 1965, without feeling revolted.

Rush raised the bar to a level unattainable by many bands. They continually challenged themselves to get better and we, as an audience, appreciated it. They are much beloved for this and respected the world over. As a fan since the late seventies, I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience and for any "newbies" out there, welcome to a world of music embodied by three of the greatest writers and showmen there have been.
A very interesting way to think of these guys playing at this level (and having fun) while doing it, is to imagine that you're not merely seeing and hearing them play; but knowing what it takes to actually play it all and make that focused energy transmit between the three of them, show after show. They did that and so much more for over 40 strong years. Amazing.
