Ditto. Used to play it (badly) with a band of friends in high school back in the late 80s. Such a great summer. I was on keys and loved that moment it gave me of booming 7/8s which started it off... and the synth solos were so much fun. Taught me tons about what incredible songwriting could be.
In my opinion, Subdivisions by Rush is equivalent to The Frayed Ends of Sanity by Metallica. Both are a statement of "yeah, go ahead, let's see you try to cover this song! 😂..."
Subdivision by Rush is 1 of my all-time favorite songs, Rush is 1 of my all-time favorite groups they're 2 amazing been 2 most of their concerts y can't get a drummer better than Neil Peart he's absolutely amazing he's 1 of my all-time favorites
What RUclips is for ,,, Wonderful , RIP the Jedi Master , the drummer others wish they could be , this is a theme song for a lot of us back then .. the 80's & 90's were not an easy time for some of us, what do you want to be, who do you think you should be kinda questions .. RUSH really helped us to feel good about ourselves , because maybe we were a little nerdy , " BE COOL or BE CAST OUT ." ... no one should ever be cast out , we are all better then that ❤👍🎸
I first saw Rush back up Kiss at the Kenosha, Wisconsin Ice Arena in 1975. They blew me away then and still do every time I listen to them. RIP Neil. ❤️
being an old bastard and growing up in the 60's and 70's...i've always thought that the Beatles and Zeppelin were the 2 greatest bands in rock history. We'll never see anything like them again. But when it comes to an assemblage of musicians, i honestly think that Rush is the collection of 3 of the greatest musicians in rock history.
Comment in 2024... One of the best 5 minutes of my teenage years was ripping off the cellophane of 'Signals' and listening to Track 1: Subdivisions. It was the first time in my life that I felt a song understand me. That's silly of course, but every single person in the world with access to radio has That One Song that grabbed their soul by the spine. For me, it was Subdivisions.
@@amywebster8134 Yeah, remember when all the kids were talking about Nirvana and NIN like we didn't understand how That One Song /Band changed your life? But there was Rush and AC/DC and other bands in the 'death to disco' era that kicked music in the teeth
Discovered these guys with my friend our junior year in HS in 2000 and saw them for our first time at their r30 show in 04 and it changed our lives, not only was the show great but the fellow fans who were most friendly bunch of people we ever met, they all couldn’t believe that two 21 year olds were there to see the show. We were some of the youngest and I’ll never forget it!
Honest to God true story: Back in the 90s my wife had a co-worker whose dad was big Rush Limbaugh fan (personally he repulsed me) and she won two tickets to "An Evening with Rush" from a radio station and thought it was Rush Limbaugh! She and her 80 year old dad get there and her dad said "Its good to see so many young people embracing traditional values!" Then the band came on..... She said they actually stayed for 5-6 songs and on the way out the old man says "Well, the drummer is very talented. There's no denying that."
This was my personal theme song as a bullied teen in the '80's growing up in a box just like all the other boxes in my neighborhood. Still gives me chills! It was so wonderful knowing that I wasn't alone feeling that way.
One of my favorite songs and bands. If I was stranded on the island and only had rush to listen to, I would be very content. It’s so nice to see them young as we all were once ❤
What an awesome performance of Subdivisions, my favourite RUSH song. This is what happens when music and friendship overpowers ego and competition. These guys love their fans as much as we love them. A lot has happened in the world recently; this is the song I listen to when I go to my "happy place". Same as when I was a teenager (who didn't fit in) growing up in beautiful Alberta. If Geddy or Alex happen to read this comment, I would like to say to them... Thank You.
It's not just their technical proficiency it's how well they fit all of that technical proficiency together...... Amazing! Hard to believe Neil's no longer with us in the flesh... Thankfully we have the vids and music to remember by....
I've been a huge fan of RUSH from their Fly By Night album before Neil Peart was their drummer.I can't remember the guys last name ,but his first name was Michael and left RUSH because back in those days insulin had to be kept cold in which prevented him from touring. I'm a lifetime drummer & I play a lt of RUSH,Neil is like mentor watching him play from all different angels & incorporating much of his style in my drumming style. 57 years of drumming,5 heart attacks and 3 stents later... I'm STILL playing!!!! God is good!! Rest in Peace Neil, you are very loved & missed.
Subdivisions gave me a second chance at life. Pearts lyrics infused me with a zeal for life.....and a reason for continuing this conundrum of insanity. Thank you Neil. RIP.
He was one of the few musicians back then who didn't go through some messed up stuff like others did. I am glad because Rush has a huge discography with so many . I was trying to learn this song on keys and man some of the odd bar numbers in parts make it so hard to switch stuff in some parts. A good free synth for this is the patch "LAURIE" on the free downloadable synth called Dexed. One of the top free synths I have found I think.
Harrison Crutcher Funny thing is that’s Canada in a nutshell. People living for a long time because they never smoke or so drugs. Just eating blueberries and salmon and other delicacies keeps them lively for decades. Of course even Rush had to retire but Geddy Lee never lost his voice. Amazing it is.

Love that Geddy changed his name to Geddy, out of love for his mother, love that he stood in for the late Chris Squire when Yes were inducted into the R+RHOF, love that I was able to grow up listening to these three and love that I can still get away with hammering out Exit Stage Left into the wee hours of the morning. We are lucky to have experienced greatness, and luckier still to realise it!
Great point @dropout. Neil Peart was truly amazing on the drums. I saw a comment about him on another video that said, “Neil Peart didn’t learn the drums, the drums learned Neil Peart”. Couldn’t be said any better! I never got to see them in concert and really wish I would have.
I went to see them in 1978 at the Tarrant County Convention Center in Ft.Worth Texas not knowing who they really were....MAN !! that concert really had an affect on me...the fact that 3 guys could make all these different sounds was something to behold !!!! I was 16 at that time,i'm 57 now and I never get tired of listening to RUSH !!
Cool story. RUSH is for intelligent listeners. It's so intricate mysterious and multi thought process with so many changes within one song. I hear ya. Rush is UNIQUE!!!!

Ditto. Used to play it (badly) with a band of friends in high school back in the late 80s. Such a great summer. I was on keys and loved that moment it gave me of booming 7/8s which started it off... and the synth solos were so much fun. Taught me tons about what incredible songwriting could be.
Agreed. This is the song that got me into RUSH!!
In my opinion, Subdivisions by Rush is equivalent to The Frayed Ends of Sanity by Metallica.
Both are a statement of "yeah, go ahead, let's see you try to cover this song! 😂..."
Note the measured tempo....Genius. Happy Birthday Geddy Lee 70
"Suddenly You were gone from all the lives you left your mark upon" Rest in peace Neil....
My all time favourite Rush track. Simply, musical perfection.
RUSH really helped us to feel good about ourselves , because maybe we were a little nerdy , " BE COOL or BE CAST OUT ." ... no one should ever be cast out , we are all better then that ❤👍🎸
Been a fan since 1982, and it just never gets old. This is the greatest band in the history of ever.
I first saw Rush back up Kiss at the Kenosha, Wisconsin Ice Arena in 1975. They blew me away then and still do every time I listen to them. RIP Neil. ❤️
The prof, drumming and lyrics, just different class. Gotta love Rush. Best band ever.
Such a brilliant - _BRILLIANT_ - song.
30+ years old - - and it’s still just timeless!
being an old bastard and growing up in the 60's and 70's...i've always thought that the Beatles and Zeppelin were the 2 greatest bands in rock history. We'll never see anything like them again. But when it comes to an assemblage of musicians, i honestly think that Rush is the collection of 3 of the greatest musicians in rock history.
Beatles and LZ were no slouches either..you mentioned them for a reason 👍👍
Never in my lifetime will we ever see another band with this much talent.
R.I.P Neil 💔
Just gutted he's gone.

For me, it was Subdivisions.
ikr!!!
@@amywebster8134 Yeah, remember when all the kids were talking about Nirvana and NIN like we didn't understand how That One Song /Band changed your life?
But there was Rush and AC/DC and other bands in the 'death to disco' era that kicked music in the teeth
one of their best preformances of this song
Discovered these guys with my friend our junior year in HS in 2000 and saw them for our first time at their r30 show in 04 and it changed our lives, not only was the show great but the fellow fans who were most friendly bunch of people we ever met, they all couldn’t believe that two 21 year olds were there to see the show. We were some of the youngest and I’ll never forget it!
I’ve been listening to Rush since the 2112 album I found that in 79 I was 15
This my friends is what a well oiled machine looks like.
This will always be my favorite song by Rush!
Just an unbelievable band. And probably the greatest drummer ever
I'm from canada ... Hello World from Canada !!!!!!!!!!
I saw them 4 times ,one in front row ticket ,i will never forget it
I listened to this song over and over while driving from San Jose to Reno. Great song!
RIP Mr Neil Peart! for sure 4 or more generations of drummers get inspired by his talent
Perfect song ,perfect musician
Honest to God true story: Back in the 90s my wife had a co-worker whose dad was big Rush Limbaugh fan (personally he repulsed me) and she won two tickets to "An Evening with Rush"
from a radio station and thought it was Rush Limbaugh! She and her 80 year old dad get there and her dad said "Its good to see so many young people embracing traditional values!"
Then the band came on.....
She said they actually stayed for 5-6 songs and on the way out the old man says "Well, the drummer is very talented. There's no denying that."
So funny❤❤❤❤😂😂😂
I'll take 'Things That Never Happened' for five-hundred, Alex.
This was my personal theme song as a bullied teen in the '80's growing up in a box just like all the other boxes in my neighborhood. Still gives me chills! It was so wonderful knowing that I wasn't alone feeling that way.
Geddy, guitar, keyboards, vocals, wow
I'm a vet. That is my favorite Rush song. That was the first time hearing Pershing 's Own version.Extremely awesome.
Miss Neil so much. There's nothing that compares to watching him play with the overhead cam. His precision was incredible and unmatched.
One of my favorite songs and bands. If I was stranded on the island and only had rush to listen to, I would be very content. It’s so nice to see them young as we all were once ❤
They’re not actually young here! There’s a channel called StickHits which does some amazing Rush remasters, though.
RIP Professor. Amazing bass. Geddy really thumps it. Alex Lifeson always a genius. Brilliant piece. And I am devastated.
Thank You.
Hey... check this version of my son: ruclips.net/video/iYxBp3AYZqA/видео.html a guy with just 17 years old. Thank you.
It's not just their technical proficiency it's how well they fit all of that technical proficiency together...... Amazing!
Hard to believe Neil's no longer with us in the flesh... Thankfully we have the vids and music to remember by....
RUSH---Once in MANY, MANY Lifetimes. R.I.P. Neil.
Rest in Peace Neil, you are very loved & missed.
absolutley mindblowing performance...is this one of the most perfect songs ever??🤘🤘
Subdivisions gave me a second chance at life. Pearts lyrics infused me with a zeal for life.....and a reason for continuing this conundrum of insanity. Thank you Neil. RIP.
Geddy-Bass, Vocals, Keyboards and NO bullshit rockstar douchebaggary, just a helluva guy. A real mensch!
Harrison Crutcher
Funny thing is that’s Canada in a nutshell. People living for a long time because they never smoke or so drugs. Just eating blueberries and salmon and other delicacies keeps them lively for decades. Of course even Rush had to retire but Geddy Lee never lost his voice. Amazing it is.

Rush and Neil🖤Peart are a part of my life

Hello to all Canadá !!! Congrts to have such a great Best rock band I ever enjoyed ...You rock My life since I was 4 y.o. My brother bought your albums all the way we with You always 🙏🏻🤙🏻👌🏻🤞🏻✌🏻🐇👍🏻🪐🌘✨
This videos makes one realize just how good this 3 piece band was and how unbelievable a drummer Neil Peart was. RIP
Neil Peart's drums will live in the ears of Rock n Roll 10 years past forever.....perfect tone, just perfect.....
"The restless dreams of youth", thank you Neil for that line.♥
How could you not love Subdivisions? That ending! Just awesome. Miss you Neil. ❤️
I never paid much attention to Rush growing up. I’m listening to My effin life and now tuning in. I can’t believe only 3 guys made this much sound.
“....be cool or be cast out...” That was me. They got me. Neil’s lyrics equaled his percussion. RIP Professor.
Rush is in the greatest bands of all time ❤❤❤been listening since I was 15 be 61
