Apparently, their lead guitar player was more humble than any other bands lead. The bass guitar and drums are featured right along with the lead. The lead has his moments, but he never seems to steal the show. Geddy's work on bass is more technical than most, and the drums, well most everyone knows how special he was.

There really was a different dynamic with these 3. Not only were they band mates in one of the greatest bands EVER, it was obvious that they were also best friends. That really showed when Neil took his time away after losing his wife and daughter. Many other bands would have bailed on him and found another drummer. They supported their brother in his time and waited for him.

    Here’s my dilemma.
Never have been a rush fan. Knew their music and knew most of their famous songs such as Tom Sawyer and others. Even knew most of the lyrics.
It wasn’t until Neil’s passing of the same cancer that took our other Canadian songster mr. Gord Downie that I took a hard look at the musical history and efforts of this band.
It blows me away at my ignorance of how great this band was and is and how much I missed from back in the day. I had so many opportunities to see them over the last thirty five years it actually makes me sad.

My pain is that growing up in Australia, for me RUSH didn't get a mention over here.
I loved listening to music in the 70s and onwards and RUSH drew a mental blank....i might have heard some songs but nothing comes to mind.
Move forward 40 years into 2019 and i decided to look up "good" drummers ( myself a keen drummer but not very good) and a guy named Neil Peart pops
up with Tom Sawyer and the rest they say is history.
The passing of Neil is very sad to me, but in the past year I have been able to overdose on all of RUSH's songs.
After it was announced of Neils passing 3 days after, I basically haven't stopped listening to them.

Absolutely hated Rush literally up until Neil passed; some of my friends were posting some of Rush's deeper cuts (mostly from the later years when Geddy's voice wasn't as irritatingly shrill as it was from 1973 to 1980) and I was blown away by how fantastic they were as musicians and how deep and empathetic a writer Neil was. "The Pass" put me over the edge, what a devastatingly compassionate and well written song that is. I love them as much as I do the Dead and the Stones now.

I feel very lucky and fortunate that when I heard this band for the first in 1977 listening to Cygnus X-1 that I had enough sense to make them my favorite band. How lucky were we all that we got to listen to and see them in concert for so many decades while multitudes of other bands came and went or changed members. It blows my mind that from the time I was a 13 year old teenager that my favorite band made music and toured for the next 38 years. I miss them but will always be grateful for being the soundtrack of my life. I know I’m not the only one that feels that way either.

Nowadays the only real, valid use for RUclips is to remind us how great we had it when Rush could still come to your town and show us what REAL MUSICIANSHIP was. So glad I can tune in here and watch the Professor and his two brothers rock the world. I will forever cherish the two times I got to see them live (Power Windows and Signals Tours) and am so glad I can always turn on RUclips and recall some of the best days of my life. Love you guys! By the way, Message to Geddy and Alex: If you are ever in the Atlanta Georgia area you are welcome to come to my house for a meal (Lots of wine included of course) and a jam session with a wannabe drummer and bassist!

You can be ready for the fact of someone's death, but nothing can prepare you for the feeling of their absence thereafter.
Was the same with my mom dying a year ago, and my dad 30 years ago. You're attached to people you know, more than you think until the tendrils that bind you together are torn loose from your heart. Then you really know. That's just how it goes.

@@j_freed Yeah, with you. My Mum died from cancer. She was in her early 80's and didn't want to go through treatment but let it run its course. So, we were prepared, kind of. But that finality is something you can't really prepare yourself for. That empty space, the phone calls, the gestures that are missing. Time softens the raw pain and sorrow but there is still a scar. Hoping you're OK, and that life is beginning to manifest its joy, beauty, it's treasure once again.

The first concert I ever saw was 2112~ I've been a loyal fan for how many decades now?
Never mind- let's not answer that :)
When I was at the Roll the Bones tour in St. Petersburg, FL, I was sitting 3 rows from the stage in front of Alex and when they played this song- (one of my favs and there are so many) I stood and gave him the hand sign for love and he mouthed "thank you" to me and then proceeded to play the solo in front of us-
I named my son after him
