Hey Guys, As you have probably noticed already i have updated the channel name and logo. The channel is no longer Really Random Channel it is now RRC Restoration. Just incase you were wondering why the water marks in the video still say Really Random Channel. Enjoy.
There are so many restoration channels where the guys clearly don't know what they are doing. It is refreshing to watch someone who knows the craft. The only thing I would have changed is to put the bolt that holds the feet on at the back of the unit instead of at the front. VERY NICE!!!
RRC's Mum told him when he was younger, "my child, when you grow up, you can do anything you want." and by God has he proved it, lol. Thank you for such utter brilliance brother....
I know you did a survey of what type of videos you should be making. Well, THIS is EXACTLY what I love about your channel. I would never have thought of a gear oil dispenser. But I loved watching the transformation and I learned several interesting techniques along the way. Beautiful work!! Thank-you!!!
That pump took me back to my boyhood: I used the exact same type 'Castrol'-pumps at my dad's garage when changing oil on gearboxes after school and in summer, that cranking and seeing the oil flow at the end brought an 'automatic' smile for times gone by . . . . . . . Thanks a bunch for this fond 'retrospect', and the superb job restoring this artefact!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Now that is how you are supposed to refurbish things. Nice to see someone use a backing copper plate to fill in a weld. I use aluminum on thin metal to keep from blowing through as well. Very nice. Thumbs Up!
I love that you take pride in your work and that you know about using copper when you want to make a repair that requires a backing that weld won't stick to.
I recently found your channel and am absolutely in awe of the work you do. Loved watching this lovely old tool come back to life (probably better than it left the factory). And I really appreciate that you put more care into restoring an old workshop tool than some automotive RUclipsrs put into restoring a whole car.
Nice to meet you, I live in Japan in Chiba prefecture. I found your video on RUclips during the stay home period. Your videos are amazing. I was impressed by your technique of reviving old things.
I have one of those old volume buckets down the shed so handy for filling diffs and gearboxes. Superb restoration its a credit to you...................Thanks for filming it.
Watching your work is so relaxing and inspirational. It makes me wish I had a decent workshop and tools. And a media blaster. and a knowledge of painting and welding - and a welder - and a spray-painting kit - and......................... 😀
George is awesome! My son loves him! Beautiful restoration. You have inspired myself and my son to do some projects of our own! We have learned a lot from your videos. Thanks and God bless!
Another outstanding job, absolutely beautiful. The only thing I would add would be a rubber grommet in the hole for the brass pipe to sit in to protect the painted edge.
Lovely job, when I was using lots of paint stripper we used to use grade 4 wire wool. It used to clean and prepare the timber surfaces and not as aggressive as a wire brush. I love the smell of gear oil and use it on my motorbike chain
a little bit of a sugestion...before painting the letters with the brush in red, paint them in white and then go over them in red. it will make the red pop a lot more. red over green makes for a dull red. red over white makes it pop. cheers
Excelente trabajo! Mis felicitaciones, es una de las restauraciones más lindas y entretenidas que has hecho. Solo quiero preguntar porque arrojas la partes o herramientas? No se condice con el cuidado y esmero que aplicas en el resto del trabajo. Muchas gracias. Un saludo.
BEAUTIFUL JOB. Mine was much easier to restore. I've been using it for 63 years and finally decided it was time to rejuvenate it. It was originally a SINCLAIR OIL pump exactly like yours. I found a 12" SINCLAIR vinyl decal online for $7. Same color as yours too.
Your metal working and painting skills are as good as it gets... Think about doing an antique wood furniture restoration.. there are plenty of distressed-broken 100 year old plus furniture pieces ie. cabinets, beds, chest of drawers etc. that can be found for very little money. I would love to see you give it your efforts
Beautiful restoration. Should be on display somewhere. Only thing I would do differently, have the bolt clamping the feet onto the base around the back?
Thank you :). I agree in an ideal world i would like to hide the bolt around the back but unfortunately the can has taken the shape of the base in this configuration so im stuck with it facing the front unless i went about reshaping the base which i didn't feel was really worth the effort. I may paint the bolt black to disguise it a bit in the future if it annoys me enough haha!
Nice job of painting and like the branding with the Castrol logo. But in the before photo the bolt clamp is at the back of the tank. That was the original orientation of the tank, base and clamp. Red before version has filler cap and the cast iron handle on the right side of the picture with the base clamp and bolt unseen at the rear. Green version is set up the same with the base clamp and bolt now visible at the front...? What changed? Great video and resto, but not letting you off the hook on the base clamp, I think you’re too good to let that slide!

fantastic job, what is the name of the castrol green, and paint code.
hey, i found one of these in really rough shape, i dont have the tools or the time to fix it but i was wondering if you would be interested

Brilliant! :) Im so glad my little restoration could bring back some happy memories for you :)
Now that is how you are supposed to refurbish things. Nice to see someone use a backing copper plate to fill in a weld. I use aluminum on thin metal to keep from blowing through as well. Very nice. Thumbs Up!
Thank you for your kind comment :). using a backing plate is a great little trick that shockingly few people know about.
I love that you take pride in your work and that you know about using copper when you want to make a repair that requires a backing that weld won't stick to.
I used one 60 years ago at Afon Marteg Garage. At 77 this brings back great memories.
Awesome, Glad i could bring back some memories for you :)
