Hey Guys, As you have probably noticed already i have updated the channel name and logo. The channel is no longer Really Random Channel it is now RRC Restoration. Just incase you were wondering why the water marks in the video still say Really Random Channel. Enjoy.
mike88g1 Who says you can’t use art my friend. I’ve seen cars, Ridler winners, that I consider art that are used as they were intended. Useable art is all around us! Take care.
mike88g1 I checked in with the author of that original tweet, and he disagrees with you. He never said art couldn’t be used, never even thought it, and he asked me to tell you to please re-read the comment.
Do you have a suggestion of what you would like to see restored next on the channel? Feel free to get in touch with your suggestions or leave a comment below. I look forward to hearing your ideas! 😊👍

The sound of the compressor driven grinder, accelerated, was the best part. Like an angry bumblebee going after that can! You for sure have some serious restoration skills - wow!!
Yea, same. I assume he had a good reason but man that hurt to watch. I get it though, I've had plenty of things I wanted to fix and it just wasn't a possibility.
Caleb Voisine-Addis You know what though, they’re probably still there underneath all the coating he did. They just disappeared since those layers became level with the lettering. So it’s not completely destroyed.
Love this. Am not mechanically inclined and learned a lot. The whole concept is astounding in my opinion. Am going to use it to encourage a grandson-in-law to be. The only item I will caution him about is the paint powder showing on the arms. That means it's in the air, also. Lungs are susceptible. Took me about 40 minutes to watch because of back tracking, but enjoyed every minute. Thanks.
Gotta hand it to Bilt Hamber, They've thought up some pretty spectacular rust removing products. If you use DEOX-C with hot water it strips rust off quicker and more thoroughly than any other stuff I've tried. When I started my Ford Capri restoration I even looked into building an 8" deep "bath" using railway sleepers and tarpaulin. The idea was to sit the shell in DEOX-C so I could get every trace of rust out of the sills and floor seams........ Unfortunately, Due mainly to the size of the car it would have worked out ridiculously expensive, So in the end I just sand blasted it and painted DEOX-GEL into every area I could get to.
can't believe how shiny and smooth that rusted can became!! this is the fine result of some brilliant work!! highly enjoyable to watch the whole process, thank you for the effort!
I cringed watching, but still enjoyed the video. The rest of the restoration is pure art and well worth the time learning. Looked really great with finished results.
One last observation - if this were to ever be used for storing fuel again, I'd suggest sealing the inside surface of the tank. No telling what crud is left behind inside. In the states it's common to use something like POR-15 Fuel Tank Sealer for sealing/relining old gas tanks.
Legally across the USA, any current tanks need to be colored. Red for Gasoline, Yellow for Diesel, and blue for Kerosene, it would be illegal for him to fill that tank with gasoline if he did not paint it red. It would be really cool to see the original blue paint though!
It is not law, just a universal color coding. For commercial use you must use the color per fuel from what I understand by highway transportation laws. Personal use have at any color you want.
skoronesa when I was a kid here in Oregon I worked at a gas station. We could only put gas in red cans and diesel in yellow. I don’t know if it was law or company policy.
I enjoy watching your efforts. Regarding the pitting, We could only get a vague Idea of how thick the metal was in the pitted areas.Depending in the thickness, I might have gone through the effort of tinning with lead, brass, or an exotic. If I really wanted to save the embossing. I think I would have gone with a more fine brass screen as well. Thank you for the show!
Nice job! I cursed when you sanded off the embossed letters....however...I totally get it and by doing so...you made an outstanding choice and the result is much better than if you'd kept it. Much much smoother finish. Excellent!
Hi,Thanks for leaving a comment. Yeah it was a difficult choice whether to keep or remove the embossing but for the greater good of the project i chose to go with the stenciling and im glad i did.
Great job !!! Thanks for sharing your time and skills : very instructive !!! Personally, i coat the tank's inside with G4 resin ( after rust removal process ). Beside that, special mention for your electro-plating : clever and smart !!! THANK YOU !!!
Hey some pin striping around the original embossing would be cool but unfortunately the pitting was just too bad to be bale to save the embossing so stenciling the logo back on was the only way around it im afraid.
It's a rust remover/inhibitor. I was surprised to see him use a whole container of it (or most of one it looked like). That stuff isn't very cheap. The gas can must be worth it, maybe it's an heirloom. :)
I have no idea why this video was recommended to me, or why I sat and watched the whole half hour process. But it was amazing to watch and a real piece of art by the end of it. Shame about the embossing, and shame we don't make beautiful functional things like this in England any more.
Removing those letters is honestly down to opinion. There are probably wants to get around removing them and just doing a more basic restoration but you know.
Hey thanks for your comment. I dont have a tester for lead paint, but i just aired on the side of caution and wore a respirator at all times when removing the old paint and cleaned up all traces before moving onto the next stage of restoration. 👍
Hey, Glad you liked it :). You can buy primer fillers in rattle cans but they tend to be quite thin and require lots of layers and drying time between coats to build up a decent layer. Professional grade stuff that requires specialist spray equipment thats another story though 😉
@@huntingtonbeachsasquatch most auto parts stores carry high build filler primer in spray can form. Walmart does too if you look in the automotive section. They usually have a section with auto body stuff.

That is one very comprehensive refurbishment of a very well designed spare fuel canister,it surely took you quite some time to do such a first rate job ,definitely worthy of my 5 ☆ rating
With all the material taken off, and the embossed lettering sanded down, I'm surprised there weren't a bunch of holes in the can. Nice job though. I think the only thing that will be good for is a beautiful show piece. The other thing you could have done to keep it closer to the original would be to have cut a section out containing the lettering, clean up the rest of the can, clean the lettering separately, and then welded it back in place. If that were some sort of embossing on the body of a car, that's exactly what would have been done. RRC, kudos to you for all the time and patience to do this.
Stunning restoration! Nice use of the vinyl cutter to create new lettering - I have done that in the past. Superb paint job, it really pops out at you! Subscribed and liked!
Beautiful work sir and love the color! It's funny but I just happened to see another restoration of this same type of can on a different channel and the metal, once cleaned, looked just a severely pitted as yours did; covered by multiple layers of paint!

I got one at home in petrol green and gray...This one looks like gorgeous decoration into someones garage...I really hear sound of fifties watching this and got taste for Coca-Cola seeing this colour...by the way,I got at home some canister from Germany with pressed signs " SS-Feuergefährlich " ,but in bad condition...
