Wait. Going through that R&D for making a cool design with easy access to the internals, but not making the internals accessible in a repair-friendly way and NOT letting the user replace a battery? They were close to convincing us they care, but that quite literally shows that they don't. There is literally NO reason to have that battery warning for this phone.

It's EASY to provide a replaceable battery without exposing any of the internals and adding a contractual clause for releasing any liability from CMF if a third party battery is used.

Making a battery user-replaceable is no longer as easy as you think. We are no longer in 2002, where you have puny 250mah batteries. These are 5k batteries, that are easy to damage if handled poorly. At least replacing the battery on this device is not as destructive as say doing it on an iPhone. In the iPhone, you will need a heat gun, a suction tool, a prying tool, and some guitar picks to get the back off. Then you need a special contact cement to properly glue it back together. And after all that, you lose the IP rating. At least on this, you just need to unscrew a few things.

#1 money - if they allowed for swapping they would be required to cover it under the warranty and sell the spare batteries at the very least.
#2 liability - the Li-ion batteries nowadays including the one in CMF come just wrapped in soft foil and are susceptible to damage from light, creasing, punctures and gripping them too tight, which all can happen when attempting a battery swap. Nothing would be held accountable for the damage and injuries resulted from combusting batteries.
officially not allowing the battery repair lets them waive it all away simply as user mishandling their device, saving them time, money and PR

A smartphone like this in a more "flagship" premium tier would definitely catch my eye and have me considering going back to Android after so many years. I’m sure Nothing have crowd tested this trade-off, but I’m still surprised. Maybe Nothings target market value a 120hz panel over NFC, but I still find that hard to believe. I would have dropped the panel down to 90hz, saved a bit of money and included an nfc chip, assuming the space-envelop can accommodate it. Or bumped the price up slightly….or both 😅

    1. For the price of RM1099 you literally getting 80% functionality of a mid-range phone.
    2. It doesn’t overcomplicate the design, utility and functionality.
    3. With swappable back plate is such a steal for when your stock one gets damage.
    4. A camera that is literally just snap and go.
    5. Plus, if you add the accessories, its still priced lower than the competitors with their added ones.
    6. OLED screen which most budget phone doesn’t have.
    7. Nothing OS which doesn’t have bloatware like other Chinese phone brand in their budget range.
    8. A solid 5000mh battery with an expendable SD slot is great to have for a budget phone.
For people talking about the NFC not included, this phone is catered for the Indian market which uses QR scan and most people in the Asia market dont really use NFC. Plus cmf could even release a NFC backplate for the phone separately if they wanted to.

I'm surprised companies are still using tamper stickers, since they are illegal in the US and just last week the FTC sent out letters to ASUS, Gigabyte and several other PC and home appliance companies about their illegal warranty practices including tamper stickers.
For clarification tamper stickers on or inside products placed by the manufacturer is illegal even if they intend them to aid device repair/diagnose processes and ignore them for warranty claims.
They are legal on packaging however for theft and fraud reasons.
It is also legal for companies or individuals placing their own tamper stickers on sensitive and secured devices like Point of sale devices, card readers, door locks, computer drives with sensitive data, etc.
