There’s a lot of misconceptions about Daniels because he is a 1,000 yard rusher.
He is not just a Lamar Jackson type coming out. Yes, you’re getting a 1,000 yard rusher, but he’s debatably the most polished passer in this class. He throws guys open, he has the third highest rating when not targeting his first read (only behind Williams and Penix). Daniels has a great arm, not Williams, Milton or Maye good, but definitely an NFL arm.
And Daniels is one of the most consistently accurate passers. The most accurate is Williams of course that guy is insanely accurate

Mackey you keep saying "how he fits kevin oconnels offense"
A good coach will tailor the offense around what his qb does well and not force a qb to fit his structure. Andy Reid didnt force Mahomes to play in the same exact schemes as Alex Smith. This is why the Josh Dobbs failed here because the more koc tried to make Dobbs play like Cousins the worse he got.
For this reason i dont have confidence that koc wont ruin whoever is under center.

    • @joeschmoe233
      @joeschmoe233 Месяц назад +2

First of all Dobbs had already been with five teams, so that had more to do with the fact that he couldn't make the throws. Osborne and JJ both got hurt because he hung them out on passes. KOC comes from Sean McVay's coaching staff. He is fine with a mobile QB which helps with play action, but in order for his offense to be good, he needs a guy who can read progressions quickly and deliver an accurate pass. Mahomes is creative, but at the end of the day he does both of those things well, which every good QB can do.

My ranking has been identical Declan for 2 months. My rank is Daniels, McCarthy, Williams, Penix, Maye, Nix. I have Daniels and McCarthy neck and neck on the top, but they are very different players. Daniels is an athletic freak and JJ might be the best bet to be a quality starter years 2-10. I have concerns about Williams between the ears. I view Maye as the biggest risk of being a bust based on slow release, poor footwork and being overrated based on his size and arm strength. Penix is NFL ready and could be top 10 if he has an elite Oline but his inaccuracy when he gets flushed out of the pocket are concerning. Nix might be a low end starter or top level backup but benefited from dink and dunk passes.

They should have Matt Waldman on Purple Daily he does a deep dive compiling statistics from film work capturing the QBs ability to process on field information and how accurate their passes are. He has Penix as the second rated QB showing through his statistics that all of the faults that many draft analysts have found with him are not correct, such as he does throw to the middle of the field and he is accurate on those throws. That Penix doesn't throw well off platform and doesn't scramble showing that he scrambles more than most NFL QBs and that statistically he throws accurate passes on the move. He also points out through talking to NFL scouts that the rookie QB gets no help at fixing their mechanics problems they are entirely left to themselves to work on that, because the QB coach is working with the QB at installing the offense for the upcoming game. That is why he ranked Maye 6th and McCarthy 5th best QB's because the mechanics and processing problems that they have won't get fixed unless they have years to work on it.

They need to hire another assistant to work with Penix, Maye, or McCarthy to work on their flaws because that isn't what the QB coach does. The QB coach implements the game plan and looks at the upcoming opponents defense with the QBs. The rookie QB works on his mechanics and other issues by himself. A billion dollar industry and they don't give the young QBs the support they need.

If I'm KOC I'm on the phone with my old teammate trying to convince him to make a Brett Favre appearance. I mean wouldn't be hard to sell him with Jefferson Addison hawkenson Aaron Jones. Two probowl Tackles. A Brian Flo defense. You cam still draft your QB and have a chance to make some noise this year in the division.

Drake Maye does remind me of Josh Allen in size, and arm strength. While I believe Maye is lighter than Allen and an inch shorter, he does have a cannon. Allen had accuracy issues but was stated to have the 'right stuff' to be an NFL QB just like Maye. He's a tall QB that played for a terrible college team, I think Maye would be pick that would pan out in a few years. Allen got a lot of crap before he turned into the QB he is today, still some turnover issues but I don't think anyone would disagree that he's elite. If it's Maye I would be excited to see what happens.

I hope to God they get Maye or Daniels. Both have the highest ceiling that's available to the vikings if they hive up enough to get them. I'd take Penix 3rd because he has the experience and leadership with his time in college but he doesn't have the ceiling my other 2 qbs have. McCarthy is going to be a great long time backup in the NFL if that's what they are looking for unless we go to a run heavy offense. You have to understand some of McCarthys succes was do to the fact that Michigan ran 90% of the time so that would open up the passing game. No one is thinking like that but they should be. Passing 30 to 40 times a game is WAY different than running all the time and passing 10 times a game guys.

Everyone is hyper focused on trading up for this QB or that QB, who falls, etc. Kwesi is eyeing all the extreme talent in this draft and seems just as interested in amassing studs everywhere we can than simply taking a homerun swing for an unproven QB.
Who does Kwesi take if the following players are on the board at #11:
    Penix
    Nix
    Odunze
    Bowers
    Mitchell
It's possible all 3 of the skill position players there vie for rookie of the year, based on their scouting. Odunze would give us 3 deep again, ala 1998. Bowers is a matchup nightmare who would also force defenses to single up JJ and Addison all game. Mitchell looks to be a shutdown corner who can erase a team's #1 receiver, something we don't have.
If the DT you love is there at #23, take him. You now have a lethal offense led by an experienced 26-year-old QB who's only real time has been on terrible teams. You'd also have a much improved, younger defense. You'd still have 7 more picks in the draft to move up, the 2025 draft, and the most FA money of any team next year. If we were picking 1 or 2, I'd go all in on Williams or Daniels, but we're not. I'd rather take a can't miss offensive stud and can't miss defender than a 40% swing on a QB. We can do that next year if Darnold doesn't pan out. By then, the rest of the team will be loaded and mostly on rookie contracts.

Darnold is only 1 year older, has more experience, could be better in every way, especially after working with KOC. I'm not sure I believe it, but it would be an interesting comparison just to see which version of the team is better. Maybe, just maybe, Sam Darnold could be the long term answer with KOC's tutelage.

He gave up making plays with his legs after the 2 acl tears. I don’t see any scenario in which Penix gets drafted in the first round. And I actually like Penix and think he can be a good nfl qb, he just isn’t mobile and the injury history scares the hell out of me. Solid show as always though boys!

Not so reckless speculation. I have this gut feeling the Vikings trade future picks with the Chargers for Justin Herbert. Those picks would be conditional. Harbaugh will likely pick his favorite QB, McCarthy. LA would benefit if Herbert hits incentives and Vikings have a winning record. I see a win/win for both teams.

J.J. would be the best QB that we’ve had since Fran Tarkenton. His physical talents and abilities aside, his intelligence intrigues me the most. His IQ is much further advanced compared to other 21 year olds. QB is the most cerebral position of any sport and J.J. might be the fastest processor and best decision maker, besides Caleb Williams, from this class.

What about that report from last week that the private workout scheduled between the Vikings and Jayden Daniels after Daniels' Pro Day fell through, per JD's agent, because the agent is so certain JD is going #2 to Washington, so why waste time working out with the Vikings since they have no chance at drafting him. If that story is true, either JD has poor judgement with his agents, or JD is so arrogant that he doesn't want to meet with a team that realistically he could be drafted by. The draft is always unpredictable, you never know what can happen. If JD is that level of diva, than no thanks. McCarthy's team first attitude is much more welcome than a prima dona QB (again, if that story is true--anyone know if it's been debunked?).
