You just wonder how many great QBs have busted just because they went to a bad team and never got a better chance.
It would be good QB because a great QB would have still done good
@Reid93214 that's totally debatable. If they have no oline and lead the league in getting sacked, how can they improve?
@@Reid93214 not true at all. Just look at the 0-16 Lions in 2009. After drafting Stafford the best season they had with Matt Stafford was a wildcard appearance. From 2009-2020 the lions were a joke. The lions only had 4 wildcard appearances with a future HOF QB.
This is the comment that trumps all regarding what Reid mentioned.@@chrisgossman4522
looks like this could be darnold's most interesting year
Darnold was the guy I wanted for the Bridge or Better. He makes it practical to let a JJ McCarthy or even a Drake Maye sit for up to a year, watching and learning the pro game, memorizing the playbook, getting comfy with all the receivers. There are very few negatives with Darnold.
Darnold and Mayfield both played on the 2022 Panthers, below are a comparison of their performances in games in which they started.
BAKER MAYFIELD
Starts: 6
Passing TD: 4
Rushing TD: 1
INT: 6
FMB: 5
Passing YDS: 1,158
Rushing YDS: 52
Total YDS: 1,210
Pass Attempts: 186
Rush Attempts: 16
Record: 1W - 5L
(Mayfield appeared in 1 additional game against the Bengals, coming in during the top of the 3rd quarter and down by 35 points (some would call this “garbage time”). He threw for 2 TD, 0 INT, and 155 YDS. The Panthers lost: 21-42)
SAM DARNOLD
Starts: 6
Passing TD: 7
Rushing TD: 2
INT: 3
FMB: 6
Passing YDS: 1,143
Rushing YDS: 106
Total YDS: 1,249
Pass Attempts: 140
Rush Attempts: 26
Record: 4W - 2L
(During Baker Mayfield’s time as a 2022 Panther, Christian McCaffery played in 5 out of 6 Mayfield starts, and DJ Moore played in 6 out of 6 Mayfield starts. During Sam Darnold’s time as a 2022 Panther, Christian McCaffery played in 0 out of 6 Darnold starts, and DJ Moore played in 6 out of 6 Darnold starts)
Based on these stats, I believe people are heavily undermining the ability of Darnold especially when compared to Mayfield. We have an identical sample size for these two players who were on the same team in the same year, and people look over it. Darnold can absolutely have a major year on the Vikings, given what Mayfield did on the Bucs.
I'll be damned. Thank you! I love seeing comps like this. Looks like Sam has way more potential than I thought. Skol!
Darnold also sucked at the jets, the prior year at Carolina and when he played for SF. He’s a turnover machine and doesn’t score a lot of tds…never scored a 2-pt conversion.
Sam’s going to shock the world.
@@archimedes_espinosa He scored a 2-pt conversion against the Vikings in week 6 of the 2021 season to tie up the game in the 4th after scoring with 46 seconds left on the clock. You have proven that you don't know what you're talking about...
I made this comment on another video someone did about Darnold’s highlights, but I’m going to make it here too. In the video, one thing I noticed was his feet. With the Jets and the Panthers, he had happy, skippy feet. You could see he had much more confidence with the Niners because he would set his feet before throwing. I’m really curious how he does this year.
Christian Ponder had "happy feet" all the time. If Darnold can settle and smartly slow down he could be awesome.
We can rock with Darnold. Skol!!!!
Baker Mayfield 1-6 with CmC
Sam Darnold 4-2. Without.
On the same exact roster.
Sam can play. I don't get the hate In Minnesota.
I hope Darnold has a winning streak, makes the playoffs and whoever we draft gets a full year to sit and learn. After watching Dobbs and Hall struggle under KOC's offense last year I want our QB of the future to have time to understand the offense.
Sam Freaken Darnold - came into the best situation ever!
This is a situation any QBs would want! If he can’t BallOUT then he really suck-
But he can revive his career as MN has one of the best coaches and offense any QBs!
And getting paid $10M to do it. I'm rooting for him!
WHY NOT BUILD A NUMBER ONE DEFENSE AND KEEP OFFENSE AND IMPROVE WHERE NEEDED!!!
INSTEAD OF SELLING THE FARM ON ONE PLAYER!!!
REMEMBER WALKER, COUSINS,ETC.....
Should the Chiefs have not drafted Mahomes for the same reason? Come on. QB is the most important position in sports and the Vikings have not had a franchise quarterback in decades. This is the time.
Great review Andy. I think we will be pleasantly surprised how good the stew is with chef KOC, both with Darnold and whatever QB rookie we get in the draft.
I was wondering about the possibility of SD having success here. Thank you for the breakdown!
Would rather see how Darnold works out than overspend moving up for a QB who could fall to us anyway and who may not be any better than Darnold.
I think Vikings fans will be pleasantly surprised. Darnold has all the tools, is still young enough to be quick and shifty when needed, and is extremely competitive. Except for his short stay at SF, he’s always been asked to do too much with too little and with little investment in his development. I think Minnesota can take the division
This made me feel all tingly. Im actually kind of excited about Darnold now.
Agreed! Great analysis!
I have watched every game SD played in on the Jets and Carolina. He was way better than anyone that played in those systems. Zach Wilson can't do anything with the Jets and Baker Mayfield was benched in Carolina. Sam made both teams competitive. Sam took over for Carolina in 2022 and almost made the playoffs. Honestly they should've beaten Tampa Bay that year but those corners gave up way too many touch downs.Sam makes bad teams look decent. The issue though is that Sam needs to really take care of the football. He really has to hold on to that ball like it's his next paycheck. Too many fumbles and interceptions. That's really on him. I'm a big sd fan but he needs to really take care of the ball like it was his last paycheck. Big USC and Sam Darnold fan here.
Love your work and the Twins jersey Andy. You're the Man! Skol!
Absolutely, Kirk C leaving was a blessing. Everything feels fresh like it hasn’t in a long time. Darnold has career year!
I don't know why people aren't talking more about his mobility. He's probably a top 12 running qb in the league
Too many teams draft quarter backs thinking they can start right away. They need practice reps, reps, reps against seasoned veterans so they know what the NFL really is. Sam probably got shell shocked a few times by guys like Hunter and other pass rushers! I think he will be slightly above average if he can calm down and not see things that aren't there.
#34 Kirby Pucket ! Love that shirt!
Gotta roll with Darnold no matter what happens from now til the draft 🤷🏽♂️
Until than, SKOL VIKES!
Thank you Andy for the consistent content! 🤙🏽💯
come back player of the year
If I'm JJ...I'm pleased with everything the Vikes have done so far.
And praying he's not stuck catching ducks from Sam Darnold, lmao.
Looking at the Vikings current roster what I would personally. In regards to quarterback. They already have Sam Darnold"for them at this point is a great option". I would do everything possible to get Ryan Tannehill and Zach Wilson as well. Out of these three QBs you will find a starter. I'd trade down in the draft and load up on pics. And add as much depth as I can. you're good to go.🤷🏼♂️
Same stuff, different year. 63 years of history don’t lie.
If a top QB drops to 11, take him, if not I could see the Vikings drafting O & D line at 11 & 23.
I don’t think Mensa will trade up, understanding what it takes and how much of a risk it is for a prospect.
I think the worst thing that the Vikings could do is trade up 11, 23, and any 3rd pick from any round to gamble on a prospect panning out.
The Vikings have too many holes to fill to use picks to fill 1 need, and every hole they fill with a FA leaves less money to retain JJ and Darrisaw, who are each due a Brinks truck this and next season.
Mensa knows that and I think that is why he will stay put and go with the best player available at 11, & 23.
Darnold is our franchise guy. We can go get Marvin Harrison Jr. and have Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, and let Darnold sling it! Everything written about him with the 49ers talked about the crucial role he played behind the scenes in getting Brock Purdy ready for games. Imagine a world with Addison, Harrison Jr., and Justin Jefferson and Aaron Jones as your running back? Darnold will flourish. No need to draft a QB. Build your special teams, and give the Flofather the pieces and depth to work his magic!
Pick JJ mc @ 11 and dt @23.With darnold don't trade up
Only Archie Manning went into a situation as bad as Darnold, but in 22 he started getting better coaching and after a year in Frisco he is ready to prove all his doubters and haters wrong. Don't waste draft choices, take best available player. After Qb2 the odds are poor in getting a get a starting qb. History will repete if you try and move up, take a qb that comes to you in the 20s or later and use 1st pick to improve team now.
I mean, he got destroyed by the coaches in NY, way too high expectations and again, bad coaching and a shit team in Carolina, and he still won over Baker.
At 49ers he got a greak look in preseason and every time he came in he delivered.
He got one of the best offensive minded HC's, a verry simular system, and a Great receiving corp.
this could be a Baker in Tampa season guys.
He could turn out to be a very good bridge QB for the Vikings.... football after all is the ultimate team sport. The Jets were bad, Washington no better and he didn't have to play in SF. This could turn better than expected 🤔✌️
Damm I meant Carolina
If we draft a qb and he doesn’t look fully ready yet. I say give Darnold a shot week 1 and see how that plays out if he plays good then keep him in plays bad play the Rookie.
Weird idea: It would be interesting to see a side by side comparison of Kurt Cousins before he was a Viking to Sam Darnold. Seems like some of Cousin's best years were in Minnesota.
His career was definitely on a up hill trajectory before leaving the skins his last 3 years throwing for over 4,000 yards and at least 25 tds.
@@zpdrsn6315he threw for almost 5000 yards in Washington on season.
Who wears #14, Ryan Wright or Sam Darnald?
Now you’re talking my language.
Siv middle O line, better keep AJ in to block 😂
Oddly enough I think Sam Darnold will surprise a lot of people.
I would not trade up for a QB. Only for Marvin Harrison Jr.
Yo what i wanna know is did we just forget about dewayne mccbride what happened to him
Cal Kestis starting for your Minnesota fighting Vikings!
I think his ceiling is a 2016 Sam Bradford.
How many snaps did jaren get 30
We all know its going to be horrible. 7 wins would be the ceiling here at best.
Vikings fans- want a top Qb drafted in the first round
Sam Darnold- *walks in*
Vikings fans- NOOooo
Let Sam darnold play we have nothing to lose could ball out or we let our drafted qb take over next year
Have we resigned Risner?
Neeeed to
The Jets destroy young QBs. The Jets lead the league in ruined QBs. Sam will thrive in Minnesota, you have the organization, coaches, and right talent to surround him. He will lead you to the playoffs.
So he's cousins? Bad teams good qb?
100 reasons why he probably didn't work for the Vikings coming soon. Stay tuned!
😂😂😂
Hàha holy sh*t I meant Carolina ,
I've really never seen him play , so yeah , I got nothing
This same guy "saw ghosts" while on the Jets. 😒
More a Jets problem than a Darnold problem
Sam Darnold is a major upgrade over Nick Mullens.
Sam had to play hero ball because he had no choice,no talent around him, lousy coaches he couldn’t just sit back and get sacked. He had to throw the ball in the situation. It probably shouldn’t have but what do you do?
This might be some next level copium. Drake Maye or JJ McCarthy will be needed to save the season. They'll be below .500 with Darnold.
Sam Darnold will be a better QB than Kirk Cousins this year.
yea no...
I see Sam Darnold being as good as Nick Mullins was He will make plays, but turn the ball over a lot
What if Diet Coke worked out?
Such copium lol
Just face it. Sam darnold sucks. There is a reason y Sam is in his 5 teams in 6 years
Sam has had zero talent around him so far in his career his best two WRs were Jamison crowder and then one year of DJ Moore who he had just short of 1000 yards and 7 TDS
I'm not, not excited for Sam Darnold. It probably could be worse.
bridge qb u need some comp for a rookie and there wasnt rlly any other options
@@beckham4124disagree…the Vikings could’ve signed Flacco for less money than they paid Darnold and gotten a proven player…just look at what he did for the Browns last year.
sorry but the last person I want mentoring my qb is the guy who refused to mentor lamar.@@Intimidator39
