I just want to point out to new players, that where the FFXIV community is almost entirely made up of nice and helpful people, there are still some snobby players that hate when you don't play their way. I just hope you don't feel discouraged to play a class or the game as a whole when toxic players treat you like trash. Find some friends or FC mates to guide you or practice in lower dungeons until you're confident in your skill, if need be. But again, a majority of players are willing to help you or be patient with you. It's a pretty good community.
I played this years ago on ps4, im considering to buy this on pc and really wanna play Dark knight. Some guides says dark knight is garbage and others say its top tier... Im so confused :D
@@reptile97 the game is pretty balanced, play the class you prefer. Worst case scenario, you just switch class. You can play every class on the same character so, dont care too much about it... Especially when leveling
I just started. It's my first FF game. Level 16 and really liking it, except for the unnecessarily complicated starting town layout. I've spent way too much time running around trying to find a way downstairs or upstairs.
The best tip for any new player is that picking a class at the beginning literally doesn’t matter all that much. At level 15, you unlock the other two city states and can pick up the other starting classes, so you’d be able to swap them out and experiment with them to see which ones you actually enjoy playing. I’d also recommend that you find a main class to play in all three of the major categories (tank, healer, DPS) so that you’ll be able to swap if necessary.
@@SolariGames It is locked to level 50, yes. Make sure Monk is the job you want to get to that level, as it is a pain in the ass to level up between 30 to 50 and switching to another one will be even more time consuming.
@@SolariGames Monk and Dragoon are very technical, which make them quite hard to play for a beginner. I’d actually recommend something like Ninja if you’re starting out, as they are highly capable of doing ridiculous amounts of damage while being fairly easy to play.
That was going to be my answer: Why not all of them?! You know since that is what the game allows you to do! Unless you can't for some reason if you are doing the f2p to 60 option!
I now get the "Floor Tank" thing! I was so busy bringing the pain on the final Dragon boss (Stone Vigil dungeon), I didn't notice the AOE marker underneath my character. Frostbite is a hell of a price to pay for tunnel visioning. 😂
It's very important that you guys protect the rest of the group from the floor. When bahamut killed everyone in 1.0 he permanently damned the floor across the land!
I recently came from WoW where I played an Arcane Mage. So I went to character creation, saw Conjurer, said "Ok DPS Mage" same as WoW. Got to about level 20 and said, "Weird, my DPS Mage sure has a lot of healing spells but not much DPS...." Got White Mage, said "Ok! Mage now we're talking, bring on the DPS!" Went into a group, people kept calling me a healer, I said "No I'm a mage!" the response was, "Let me guess, you just came from WoW didn't you....."
Welcome to FFXIV and yeah, sounds like you picked healer. If you want the "mage" you'll want black mage that's the damage school of magic in the world of Final Fantasy. That job starts with the class thaumaturge.
@@GingerPrimeGaming and THIS is what i was looking for, if you (or anyone else) has played wow there should be a "class translation" guide lol, i played a mage first when i started wow 14 years ago, i'll give thaumaturge as my started in this game, but since then ive been healing a lot, will try the white mage as soon as im comfortable with the mechanics and gameplay
@@tandooritimberlake217 not really, unless you've played final fantasy games before, there isn't anything indicating the classes are healing classes before diving into them. By name, Conjurer sounds like a dps class and white mage sounds like a dps class as well, as in almost every rpg anything with mage in the name casts magic damaging spells
For a new player, I really recommend starting with an Arcanist. 1. You start at Limsa, the city with the most accommodating Layout 2. Arcanist gain access to 2 Job at level 30, Summoner and Scholar and both jobs share levels means you level 2 jobs at the same time 3. Since you have access to both a Healer and a DPS you can switch to whichever suit your needs at the time, like, say, switch to Scholar for an instant queue pop on MSQ dungeons and sweet sweet adventurer in need bonus. 4. You gain access to 2 Shadowbringer Role Quest Chains at the same time, that means more exp and more story contents during your journey through the expansion, and you'd want to eventually do all 4 anyway
I got lost in limsa. I started in gridania and I was overwhelmed when I wet to limsa the first time. Wish i would had seen your advise before I started with my wht mage.
@@sinopsys01 I still get lost there, ul'dah is probably the most accommodating imo, it is after all just a giant circle with everything dotted around the edge
Personally? The best experience i've had was with tanks. I started as Glad, and progressed to Limsa, i got Marauder. Both of them are extremely fun, because you're a beefy boy, so you can just pull the mobs and aoe them down and not die. It's hard to go back once you go tank
That sounds like it would have the same result as maining a warlock in WoW...once I level her up in a new expansion, other alts feel squishy and useless XD
I'm so lost. I shouldn't be trying to get into a FF game, especially a MMO while high. I've been creating my character for half an hour and I'm still not done. Will I ever play? Who knows... It's my first FF aside from VII Remake which I only just got. This is only gonna get more confusing and long, right?
For very new people: It’s worth spending a good amount of time for your character creation. Also, pick a voice that doesn’t annoy you since you might hear it a lot during battle. (BUT YOU WILL NEVER hear it in a cutscene)
This exactly. My first look of my character had a super annoying "battle voice" for male roe that went "nyuk nyuk nyuk" for each attack doing ranged dps/melee dps animations....ugh
et de stellis I totally rock my male Miqo’te!! Haha. But seriously, as a Black person, most RPGs I tried didn’t give me decent options to make darker skinned characters. I actually like the one I made in FFXIV compared with my attempts in WoW and other games.
@@HyouVizer 1 time I got into a dungeon where I heard a male lalafel kawaii voice doing a fight. I was like who the heck is that since in party there was no lalafel. Turned out it was the male miqo'te who was playing samurai (iirc) and idk why I was like ....the fuck lol. Like the idea of a male cat doing a kawaii.... feminine voice that is so anime-like and thinking it as real I just cannot xD
I only started playing about a week or so ago. Picked Gladiator because of the classic hero-with-sword archetype, and later discovered that I'd made a great choice since the general consensus I've seen indicates that Paladin is the most beginner-friendly job. Now that I'm about level 58, I have to agree - lots of health, a simple three-skill melee combo, a two-skill AoE combo with great range, a single-target ranged attack for mob pulling, two Stun skills (one on global cooldown, the other off-global), and basic 'take less damage/deal more damage' buffs, not to mention a straight-up 'become literally invincible for ten seconds' buff. While I'm a bit hesitant to say this since I haven't gotten to the point where I've unlocked the 'mage' aspect of the vaunted Paladin Rotation yet, it's a very simple job and easy to pick up for new players. Sure, your damage output is kinda paltry as compared to most other classes (I unlocked Samurai, went to fight a mob and my jaw dropped when I mowed it down in about 10 seconds as compared to the 25 or longer it took as a Paladin), but it usually doesn't matter since you can take so much damage and when you're not in a dungeon with other DPSers helping you out, odds are you've got your Chocobo companion with you to pick up the slack. So, in short - if you're a newbie, I recommend starting with Gladiator due to its simplicity. I should also mention that before you go into any sort of dungeon, *make sure you complete all of your Hall of the Novice challenges.* It teaches you everything you need to know about how to play your class's role in co-op PvE content, so if you're not sure about how you should act while in a dungeon, walk up to any NPC named 'The Smith' (you'll find them next to the entrances of the first few dungeons and inside each of the three starting cities' Adventurer Guilds), and play through your challenges. *Do not skip them if you are new to the game.*
Bard is a very good recommendation for beginners indeed. You get the safety of ranged combat without the limited mobility that comes as a cost to casters. Also to elaborate on the leveling part, "fastest way" is not a good mentality to have in this game, the MSQ is so important for a reason: this is a story-driven game, it's a Final Fantasy game, so don't skip cutscenes or dialogue or you'll likely regret it later when the story gets good and you don't know who half of these people are. This is very important. Though there IS a NG+ function to replay story missions, you're better off getting the full experience from the start.
I disagree on Bard for a starting class simply because Bard only reaches its full potential in parties. It's not really a "solo" class, and when you're going through the MSQ you're going to be spending quite a lot of time solo. Even with your Chocobo after level 30, you'll still end up having to kite fairly often to survive. I love Bard, but I would not recommend it for first playthrough.
@@GingerPrimeGaming Personally? Arcanist. As it's been mentioned elsewhere, past 30 ARC is levelling two classes at once. The ability to self-heal (not on a cooldown) increases solo survivability, and they still do very good DPS. ARC has always struck me as playing similar to Warlock in WoW (DoTs + pets). I think it's also worth mentioning that the xp from MSQ is very valuable for levelling up DPS classes, since Tanks or Healers can just insta-queue for Duties. You're going to end up doing the MSQ no matter what else you do, so for anyone who intends to level up more than one role, it might be worth it to that person to reserve the xp from MSQ progress for DPS jobs, only.
Thank you for this video. Im trying FF for the first time ever tonight. I've been a WoW fan my entire life but like alot of people, im jumping over to experience everything that people are talking about. Ill be looking at this video alot. Keep up the good work :)
Just bought the complete edition, jumped in and was immediately intimidated. Discovering your channel and videos has made SUCH a difference! Thank you.
A little backstory on Calendar and Deity. It used to matter in 1.0 and is a hold over from 1.0 for the benefit of characters that transferred and kept in as a feature for Role-play purposes. In 1.0 Deity effected a base elemental resistance bonus and Calendar effected a reward system that was never implemented. In 1.0 magic damage and physical damage had elemental alignment and elemental resistance effected how much damage you were resistant to of that type. For example, Ice or Fire damage. The system was re-introduced for Eureka content, however, it doesn't matter which deity you pick because there is no resistance bonus in Eureka outside of that provided by Eureka gear, items and Eureka exclusive mechanics.
Something I don’t think you mentioned unless I missed it: Your starting location is based on your job. I started with Arcanist partially because I loved the idea of Limsa Lominsa, the coastal city. It sets the flavor for the first dozen or so hours of your experience.
My very first character I started with dragoon, and I haaated gridania. Normally I love forest locations but to me gridania was kind of bland? I then created a black mage and I liked ul’dah a lot more. Later I created an arcanist to check out limsa lominsa and it is by far my favorite starting town. I can’t wait to get there with my black mage (who I decided to stick with).
cosmicbinary Yeah, I thought I was missing out because the idea of Gridania seemed so cool. But once I got there, I was like “meh”. Not that it’s bad, but I just really liked Limsa, so the other 2 capitols were not as cool to me.
When I've done alts, doing leves/fates near the current level while queing up for dungeons really boosts XP (especially with early XP boost items). The highest level dungeon usually gives a lot of XP too :)
Eat food also! Stat increase and 3 percent XP boost every 30 mins, pop 2 and you get an hour of 3 percent XP boost. Orange juice is 7 gil a pop, a stack of 99 was like 700 gil. It's a good way to level, just pop some food and get to grinding 😃
Disclaimer: I agree and support everyone playing at their own speed. Its ok to take your time with msq, even in arr 2.0 and 2.x quests. Tea time cutscene with the sultana is waiting for you whenever you get to it. My comment is this: seeing what classes are available is super easy to find on the internet or in your job tab. Players tend to identify or connect with classes before they even play it. 3 great jobs that entice people though are locked behind the heavensward expansion unlock. Wanting to be a dark knight, astrologian or machinist does drive some players to rush all prior content to get to the class they want. I was like this. I wanted to acknowledge that if you do want to dark knight, astro or machinist, I strongly suggest you start as tank, healer or arcanist (unlock dps and healer at 30). Shorter queue times for all content will help you get through story faster. I would also warn against skipping too many cutscenes. Enjoy the ride even if you are in fast lane.
Thank you for your time putting this together. It's very clear and concise, no jabbering about with nonsense, just very much appreciated and this was and is very helpful, for me at least and I'm sure for everyone one else that's new to this game. Thank you most certainly for this!
I’m going to have to do that too but I just recently got back into this game. so I got a bit hopefully it goes on sale in a month or two then I will definitely buy ultimate even if I’m not ready for it because I am likening this so much more then wow and I just came back too that game. was getting ready to buy shadowlands then when I got to end game I got so bored with it and found out shadowlands was a lot of the same so I said to myself it’s not worth it if the only content I will do is raiding in this game because the solo content is not there but I have only started working towards a black mage and I’m loving this game and I’m sure I will more then likely make multiple characters so I can do more end game just like I did in wow I has one of a least 5 classes I played for end game
I have a question regarding the purchase of his game: where do you buy it so that you won't jump any hoops to get it? I've heard stories that the game has a complicated process to buy it. And also, if you were playing the free trial then decided to buy the game, would you still keep your character and the stuff you got from the free trial? or will they be wiped out and you will have to start from scratch again? thx in advance ^^
I’ve been thinking about trying it. I’ve been a major fan of wow since its beginning. However, over the years, I’ve been curious to try something new and better. Especially because wows current content is garbage. Really interested in getting into FFxiv!
I'm also a veteran wow player that lost interest in the game a expansion or two ago. It's not that game i fell in love with and blizzard as a company doesnt really exist anymore ( i mean that was foreseeable), so i've made the jump in ff14 two days ago. I'm really happy so far, many cool stuff like a good transportation system, flexible classes and many more things to explore. Server are buzzing and it's feeling like on launch day in other mmo's. Since im only lvl 10 i can't give an detailed explanation. Just try it and it may be become your new home. :D
@@blkgravido Dude! That still helps a lot! Initial experiences are what makes the best memories in a game. Plus, to have fun through all of it and to experience it while it thrives! Yeah! I’m definitely planning on trying it soon!
@@blkgravido Yo! I am taking the jump! Would you have any servers or anything you would recommend? I love experiencing a thriving community but the again im all in for the new experiences. I am hoping this lives up to the hype i am feeling!
@@Heartscream91 hey, i've seen only 2 servers on eu side and both were full to the point of me waiting in queue. I'm still on free trial, so can't say much about end content. I'm still uber low and trying different classes. I also watch Asmongold (assuming where this interest came from lol) Im about to try and play this game too after quitting wow... and every other game besides mobile games for 2 years. I hope I enjoy it as much as I did when I first started wow
For Starting class for leveling and progressing while not having toooo long of a que time, Level a TANK class.. You will not have to wait too long for ques to dungeons, trials or raid stuff. Why do i say this (after playing FFXIV for many years): DPS que times are Awful and in some cases may have you waiting in que for an hour just to progress thru a Main Story Dungeon or Trial quest to move forward. DPS can be leveled up Via the Tower Mechanic quite quickly, but that doesnt unlock until later in the game. Healing Que times are almost instant, but in saying that it takes quite a while to kill mobs as a healer and in the case of White Mage, casting STONE over and over and over and over again just isnt that thrilling. Healing Class however can get leveled up pretty quick thru dungeon leveling and in the Tower Mechanic so this stands to reason that you should level a Healer after your First Class because it is soo much easier and less time consuming and less boring. The only class i would suggest to level besides a Tank would be as the OP said, but at the same time, not many people like the Pet class.. Reason for Arcanist is that it becomes the Scholar and the Summoner classes which Level up at the same time with your Arcanist, so you pretty much have a DPS or Healer, plus a pet to kind of tank for you, so good for leveling and Dungeon/Trails etc.. However, why i dont recommend it as the First class is that the Arcanist can level thru dungeon leveling and the tower mechanic (palace of the Dead etc) pretty easy which gives you 2 different options for leveling the class up. However the Tank will pretty much only have 1 option for you to level up and that is the Tower Mechanic which gets boring after a while, dungeon leveling is out of the question as the que time for a tank is around 10-30mins (depending on Shard) so to fill the gap there is not much.. So as a person who has played for many years and has a couple of characters on different shards (so had to start over again etc before they had content skip) I suggest a Tank be your first class to level, followed by the Arcanist, that way you will have a Tank a Healer and a DPS when you finally finished and all you would have done is leveled up 2 classes..
I played rogue in world of Warcraft, and you saved the best for last. I was thinking of playing a wizard type class or a rogue type, and having a rogue type class that seems to be similar to world of Warcraft makes this game more enticing. I haven’t played a PC game in almost five years, and I am really starting to miss it.
When I started I was advised to take Arcanist. You get a pet, DoTs, a little direct damage. When I started, they got heals, that may have changed. The best thing about Arc though is instead of graduating to a new job, they get two: Scholar and Summoner. Better yet, those classes use 1 exp bar so you level both at once.
Literally just started playing a couple of days ago, loving the game, and your videos have helped loads! Glad I've found them early. The UI and Controller vids have been a life saver!
I went through this entire video not knowing who made this Guide. But I thought it was amazing and very well done good I hear at the very end you say your name and you mention work to game and I'm like oh they are great
@@GingerPrimeGaming you are do very welcome. Thanks for all of your hard work on every video. Game to work literally changed my ff14 life that controller guide and macro guide is the reason i could main healer finally.
If you do jump in, just start with the trial and take your time and just note the start of the game is pretty slow, but it does pick up, but many players find it a challenge but the payoff worth it.
@@GingerPrimeGaming Started yesterday myself, but the slow start is really nice for new mmo players, which is needed when it's for several platforms. Tried making a lancer and a marauder but not sure if that's my style yet. This gave me a good direction! Thanks for the video.
Got into the game a few months ago, and I was very frustrated with how the melee DPS targets enemies, so thanks for the legacy movement controls tip. Makes it so much easier to avoid AOE (also sorry for any mystakes, not a native speaker)
Thank you so much for this! Incredibly helpful and makes me even more hyped to start playing :D (recently was gifted the complete edition). Very professionally done and will be checking out more videos. Makes me feel better about wanting to have 4 characters 😅
Fun fact; Rogues are excellent at kiting. My first time fighting Ifrit as a Rogue, our tank died and I pulled agro. I managed to successfully kite Ifrit in a circle until the healer rez'd the tank. I was so proud of that.
Returning player, haven't played beyond original content, no expansions. White mage and didn't have a clue where to start or what content was available with classes etc. Thanks for the overview, really helpfull.
Welcome back to FFXIV Dan and I'm glad I could help, just let me know if you have any other questions and I hope you have a great time with the game. I say if you can, just focus on one job until you at least unlock flying as that will help you get around the game and world much easier, faster, and honestly, the game is beautiful in the sky :)
Thanks for the guide! Installed it right now and i'm gonna set my first steps into the world of FFXIV tomorrow :) I feel that there is a lot of content to go through but i'm just gonna take it slow and we'll see how it goes.
Welcome to FFXIV Joyous, hope you enjoy your time with the game and if there is anything I can do to help just let me know. Thanks for the sub too, hope you enjoy my videos, but no pressure to watch them all ;)
Thanks yo! I was wondering what I should start as if I was wanting to main machinist lol people act like you were really gonna say “gladiator… glad is the best choose it.”
Archer (Later Bard) is best to start with Not only you're able to move while casting, you're ranged and have a permanent speed boost on top of basic sprint ability so you move fast without the mount. For first playthrough it's the best starter - and once you ding max lvl, you can do whatever you want so who cares :D
Left brain: let's choose an easy to understand class with a simply rotation, then move on to more dynamic ones. Right brain, who definitely chose time battlemage in ff12: BLACK MAGE BLACK MAGE SUMMONER SUMMONER
I haven’t played in years and just got back into it in the free trial and I’m like man I forgot how much I enjoyed this game I guess I just needed a break to appreciate it more
If I played WoW for roughly 10 years at a pretty competitive level, will I like this game? I've played every role in WoW but tanking was always my favorite.
I'm sure you will, but like many who come over from WOW there is an adjustment that people call "the wall" but for those who make it over that hurdle, they sing it's praises. Start with the free trial and don't quit until you've unlocked flying in the base zones (level 50 MSQ - story quests) the game from the start gates everything behind the story.
I just started however I'm leveling everything to 10-15 before making my decision to mainline a class. I just want to learn a bit about each class and profession while picking up a more broad experience of the game. I'm in no rush to hit endgame and I do want to experience a good chunk of concepts before locking in on my main play through.
Have been picking up interest in this game over the past few days, and this has been INCREDIBLY helpful in forming my opinion on trying the game out. Great video!
I feel like a lot got left out when describing the classes. You described things as “feels good to play” but did not expand on why they feel good. What “feels good” can vary from person to person. You mention aesthetic which is cool and all, but doesn’t really explain the play style of classes. Like what if someone enjoys the martial arts aesthetic but when they play pugilist they find out that 3 stacks of greased lightning is too fast for them. What if people like big explosions but then find out that casting is standing around, unmoving, for a bit and thaumaturges have to keep in mind of the balance of fire and ice. Like you put in a lot of effort I can tell and it’s a nice video, but it’s kinda lacks any information of what playing a class is like.
You might enjoy a more specific guide per character class, because I find that going into hyper detail in a class overview doesn't have a level of benefit for the viewer that I wish it had, and for more details then can then drill down into a specific class/job. If there were less jobs then it would make since to put that into one of these videos with a summery of all then individually layout the details (ala Outriders) but thanks for the feedback. :)
@@GingerPrimeGaming ah. Didn’t notice this was a seven month old video. But yeah, I used to play a while ago but stopped (not by my choice). It’s been about 4 years. I plan on coming back soon and bring a few friends along. But I heard that a lot of things changed (like I heard tanks don’t have enmity rotation anymore) so my knowledge is pretty outdated. I wanted to see if there were any further detail here. Kinda place expectations on you and your video that were not appropriate. Have a good rest of your day tho!
Just getting into FF14 after being disappointed and dissatisfied with MMOs recently but played alot of FF as a kid so me and my mate are going to give 14 a shot and your content is super helpful earned my sub for the foreseeable future
Great, thorough video. I played in 2010 and stopped until a week ago when a friend recommended I play with him. This is a great help, I've definitely been struggling with all the new content and I'll definitely be watching the controller guide. You've got my sub!!
Been on the fence with FF14 for years. Been playing WoW since 2004, and have tried just about every MMORPG out there. FF6, 7,8 have always been my favorites from the FF series... I've wanted to get into this game. This last year I have started playing the free trials (mainly with a controller on PC, gonna check out your controller guide next) and I definitely do enjoy it, but I've also realized I haven't played it in over 2-3 months until I stumbled on this video. I'm also trying to find my ideal role, which is usually a healer, but I wanna be able to solo quest with ease. Very interested in the Gunbreaker role as well. Currently though, my highest character (altoholic) has been the Thaumaturge. I have enjoyed it, I like the survival-bility when questing compared to the Lancer and Pugilist (the other 2 I have gotten to at least level 10). I digress... as usual, the main reason I'm posting is because, I really liked your breakdown on the classes and because (like other new players) I got a bit lost, which is what usually drives me away from some games. I subscribed. I liked. And look forward to future videos. Kudos.
Welcome to the channel and thanks for this awesome comment. What's your highest level class/job currently? I think you might really benefit from getting it to 50 and finishing the base story to unlock flying in the starter areas as that will open up the game and exporation vastly. If I fan help out in anyway let me know :)
I keep hoping for Rifts to get made into a mmo..sadly it won't ever happen I think. That would make me quit any game *as long as Rifts is good and not shitty*
@@GingerPrimeGaming Fyea. One of the best paper/dice games out there. Think robots/demons/vampires/aliens/etc rolled into one game. It's made by Palladium games. I keep hoping they'll get into the game market, either app or pc...sadly don't think they ever will.
I would suggest Arcanist for new players , you get to level at same time a healer and a dps later on, do the solo part as dps and when need to change to group content to advance the main scenario quest go for healer for fast queue times, also carbuncle is best boy
I played FFXI for years, and this is very very different. I was not prepared for such a 180. It's a bummer DK doesn't use a scythe anymore though. I'm looking forward to playing through this.

Cracking video Brian, I'll be really interested in the Class Comparison videos. Just started having a dabble again with a couple of friends new to the game and went with Marauder to Warrior just because I love the aesthetic and Tank style. But I'm already seeing noticeable changes at Lv 10, nothing bad just surprising (would never have expected Overpower to be a no cost/no cooldown ability!), I'm looking forward to re-learning the class.
Yeah, I want to do a deeper dive into each "role" I have all tanks, healers, and casters capped, so hopefully I'll get those edited and up on the channel later this month :)
Thanks, clear explanations not treating us like we are dumb at the same time, perfect. I love ff iv been a fan since as long as I can remember but never got into the whole mmo thing. Good videos keep up the good work
Not checking if anyone else caught this (so sorry it this is a repeat) but to open the rouge class you have to have completed your level 10 class quest NOT just reach lvl 10. Found that out the hard way so spreading the knowledge 🙃
Arcanist, Conjurer, Archer or Marauder imo are the best beginner classes. Arcanist allows you to gain two jobs in one and allows you to heal and DPS. Conjurer is an easy peasy reactive healer. Bard is ranged physical meaning no cast times or positionals. Warrior is an easy self sufficient Tank. Then when you get to the other expac jobs both Machinist and Red Mage are good beginner jobs too. Least friendly jobs for beginners are Dark Knight, Ninja, Black Mage and Astrologian.
started 10 days ago started as a monk, burned through all the msq stuff in 4 days and swapped sam as soon as i could and god damn i'm loving the hell outta this job. the numbers are awesome and i love lining up my Iaijutsu slashes
I played on Sargatanas as a white mage back in around 2014-15. Been missing my lalafell character so looking to get back into the game ❤️ so excited for all the new content!
I love how you focus on the fun of a job instead of how they compare in pure numbers. There's plenty of those guides so its refreshing to see someone focus on enjoyment instead.
Fun (IMO) is the most important aspect of the jobs themselves, if you don't like it, you won't put in the world to get good with the job. The meta is there to serve us, not the other way around. :)
I appreciate this video. I started playing back in January, and having now leveled a most of the classes to 50 I can say that I've seen a few "which class to play" videos which talk about how the classes play, but include things new players won't see for a while. Examples being, at level 51 BLM doesn't have Ley Lines or Enochian, at 50 MNK doesn't have a chakra gauge, etc. Your video goes over how the classes feel in general terms, rather than specifics and I think it works well that way.
Man, I completely overlooked that filter tab. It drives me crazy having to cycle through all my allies half the time trying to target a boss in dungeons/trials. I had no idea I could change that! I'm not ashamed to admit I main MCH because it's the easiest job I've tried. (currently lvl 71) Of course it does help that it's fun, too :D Aside from that, I also go to RDM. I find it a bit harder/more confusing, but still fun! I'm also pretty new to mmorpg's, though.
I have been eyeballing this game for a very long time. This guide is excellent. I have played FF games since the first one came to North America. When you showed red mage as an option that sealed my desire to play. What starting class do I need in order to get to a red mage? Thanks for this video. It’s well done and easy to follow.
For red mage that job unlocks with the following conditions. 1. You have registered Stormbloos. And 2. You’ve cleared praetorium (level 50 story dungeon) so you can start as any class you like then switch to redmage
Going to start playing this with my two friends and this was really helpful, thanks! I loved the gunblades in FF8, so I'll definitely be going gunbreaker \m/
@@GingerPrimeGaming hey I’m just gonna buy the game in steam is that okay? What was the reason for the free trial? I’m pretty committed to this game because it looks fun
I hope You will find the time to respond?? I'm currently thinking of playing FFXIV. I started out playing EVERQUEST, I invested my heart and soul for over 6 years, hi end raiding guild, so I'm not afraid to invest the time! Along came WOW and destroyed the player base and poached a great many players, after a year I also followed my comrades. I invested my heart and soul again this time for 20 years! My question is how is the community, will I be able to find a place that wants someone that will dedicate there heart and FreeTime to better the guild ? Do people appreciate that ethic in FFXIV ? Mostly I don't want to loose my friends and community again, hopefully this is the last time I look for a new community to join!! Reading my info, do have any comments or answers that may make me a little less fearful of pouring my emotions and feelings into a new group and game? Anyone reading this please comment, everything you all say is important in my decision process! I'm a 50 something bikerish type person , love rock music, and helping out friends, let me know if FFXIV is for.folks like me ? Thanks !!
FFXIV is most defiantly a place for you. Our discord is open and we're more on the casual side, but do have our hard core moments. Point being, you're welcome to get connected here and branch out as needed and as you make new friends. I can't tell you what 10 years looks like from now, but Yoshi-P is a great leader and very communicative with the community.
Haven’t played a mmorpg since ff11 and I’m preparing to jump into ffxiv. This is the first video I’ve watched and what a great choice. Great job I can’t wait to watch more.
Yeah, start as Lancer, and when you unlock Samurai around level 50 (story not your actual level) you'll be able to jump right into the job as it starts at level 50.
Fantastic video. You really got me motivated to try FFXIV. I did something stupid and blocked myself out of setting up the account. Now I have to wait 24 hours to redo. So Monday hopefully.
Tell me the odds, I’m a brand new player and I already made a character (probably should of watched this first) but I’m on Aether on Sargatanas. I definitely need help lol
Only if that's what you want but when starting out its best to focus in on just one and at least unlock flying. Bard is a great choice for new players if you didn't catch the recommendations in the video :)
@@GingerPrimeGaming Bard is good, but a tiny bit too proc based for my liking (currently leveling that, 53-ish), balancing the 3 songs are good exercise, but especially in low level it feels pretty boring. Heavy shot until heavier shot procs, Straight Shot, repeat. I absolutely can agree with your gladiator recommendation though, paladin feels so good to tank with. Need to give DRK a shot once I'm done with it though.
Starting the Trial today! I have FF15 (yet to finish) and I just finished FF7 Remake, let just say I fell in love! I know each FF is different in its own right, but I can’t wait to see what FF14 has in store. So far I’m loving the character creator, although I’m stuck on which class to pick, hence why I’m here. I’m not use to play MMOs so I just want a class where isn’t not too overwhelming, but fun!
Played WoW for years and years, having come back in Shadowlands. The lack of content is driving me away though, and was suggested FFIV. Snagged the complete edition for $30, letting it install overnight. Best believe I'll be binging these to understand the transition
@@GingerPrimeGaming thanks man I appreciate it, I will say I did stop because of a toxic player but I thought about it a lot and decided that I shouldn’t let toxic players ruin a good game. Plus I didn’t know what class was good, I was an archer and I was good at it. But your video did help me see the other classes. So again thank you.
Hey man your content is great, I’m considering getting into ffxiv and this has been really helpful. I think I’ll go with your reco and start a pally. Subscribed!
I hope you do give it a try. I started about a year ago and (with MANY breaks) I'm now just getting to Shadowbringers. So much content! And the 60-level trial is easily worth 7 days of actual play time.
Im a long FF player, i grinded FFXI online for years and i gave up gaming now im gettin back into it and this guild has gave me a great look at this game and im ready to hop in head over heels and start my journey

"Conjurer is gonna become your white mage, aka. a real pure build healer [...]"
My WHM DPS disagrees.
The best tip for any new player is that picking a class at the beginning literally doesn’t matter all that much. At level 15, you unlock the other two city states and can pick up the other starting classes, so you’d be able to swap them out and experiment with them to see which ones you actually enjoy playing. I’d also recommend that you find a main class to play in all three of the major categories (tank, healer, DPS) so that you’ll be able to swap if necessary.
samurai is only lvl 50 though right? new player and thats what i would like to play so was thinking of trying a monk to 50
@@SolariGames It is locked to level 50, yes. Make sure Monk is the job you want to get to that level, as it is a pain in the ass to level up between 30 to 50 and switching to another one will be even more time consuming.

basically "i love every class just play them all"...
Sounds like a good life to me 🤷♀️
Lol exactly... I end with the same questions I came 🤣
That was going to be my answer: Why not all of them?! You know since that is what the game allows you to do! Unless you can't for some reason if you are doing the f2p to 60 option!
And the beauty is you CAN, because you can play all jobs on one character.
Well we can also play the game for you if that's what you need
I now get the "Floor Tank" thing!
I was so busy bringing the pain on the final Dragon boss (Stone Vigil dungeon), I didn't notice the AOE marker underneath my character. Frostbite is a hell of a price to pay for tunnel visioning. 😂
Same, I get so tunnel visioned with DRG that it's dangerous.
It's very important that you guys protect the rest of the group from the floor. When bahamut killed everyone in 1.0 he permanently damned the floor across the land!
It also has to do with the insane number of jump skills that dragoon has
I recently came from WoW where I played an Arcane Mage.

@@tandooritimberlake217 agreed….it just takes a quick internet search. “Which classes in FXIV are dps roles?”
@@tandooritimberlake217 not really, unless you've played final fantasy games before, there isn't anything indicating the classes are healing classes before diving into them. congrats I remember building my first PC it unlocked another realm of games to play. did you end up getting the mobo + ssd and get ffxiv?
Did you finish it? :)
So how you like it so far?
For a new player, I really recommend starting with an Arcanist.
1. You start at Limsa, the city with the most accommodating Layout
2. Arcanist gain access to 2 Job at level 30, Summoner and Scholar and both jobs share levels means you level 2 jobs at the same time
^ really good tip here, as you do get 2 for one. :)
Limsa doesn't have the most accomodating layout, that is Gridania, everything else is true
Limsa is actually very hard to understand the first few times you go there, i was completely lost on my part
I tend to really enjoy tanks in this game, and the healers too, but I am excited for Sage coming soon. :)
That sounds like it would have the same result as maining a warlock in WoW...once I level her up in a new expansion, other alts feel squishy and useless XD
Im a marauder now?would you advise if i get another class or just master marauder 1st?

Like the idea of a male cat doing a kawaii.... feminine voice that is so anime-like and thinking it as real I just cannot xD
Does anyone really care about that? I play other music when i'm gaming. But that's just me :D
@@muajin yes, also if u are listening to music while playing ff14 u are missing out on some banging soundtracks, the music in ff14 is amazing
And, from what I remember, the challenges also give you a nice set of gear!
What would recomend then Sean?
Yeah I really enjoy SCH but used to love SMN until this expansion. Funny as I thought i pointed this out in the video but I'll have to double check
@@outcry27 makes sense. Ranged mages with heal and dmg tend to always be the easiest beginner choice in all MMORPG imo.

Ah yes, I remember those days :)
Something I don’t think you mentioned unless I missed it:
Your starting location is based on your job.
Thanks for the tips!
^ this is an excellent tip
It's interesting that they say things like fuck..and shit in the cutscenes..yet you can't say these in chat, or you get put in GM jail. lol

Very helpful guide for new players. Only a minor criticism: you made it sound as if ARC leads to SMN OR SCH when in fact you get both.
Oh yeah if I made it sound like you only get one then yes that would not be correct
I mean technically? You can unlock both but not at the same time
Thank you for your time putting this together. It's very clear and concise, no jabbering about with nonsense, just very much appreciated and this was and is very helpful, for me at least and I'm sure for everyone one else that's new to this game. Thank you most certainly for this!

Bard is really easy to understand, so I think archer is a good starting class. Also you start in Gridania, which is less confusing than Limsa imo

Welcome to FFXIV Eric, if there is anything you need just let me know, I hope you have a blast with this game
For Starting class for leveling and progressing while not having toooo long of a que time, Level a TANK class.. You will not have to wait too long for ques to dungeons, trials or raid stuff.
Why do i say this (after playing FFXIV for many years):
DPS que times are Awful and in some cases may have you waiting in que for an hour just to progress thru a Main Story Dungeon or Trial quest to move forward.
If there is anything I can do to make your jump into ffxiv better, just let me know. Happy to help :)
Red mage and dancer are my favorites followed by monk and scholar.
Damn! This video alone has recruited so many new players!!!

So happy to hear it. I'm so excited for patch 5.35 here in several weeks that I'm just itching to dive into the new content :)
Yeah, Brian and Chris are great. They are two of my favorite RUclipsrs.
Oh wow thank you so much. That really is nice to read :)
I’m new as well and hesitant to start this massive game but your guides definitely make the game seem more approachable and fun
I literally just started this past weekend, so glad to see this video so early.
Welcome 🤗 I’ve been playing since 2016 and I have classes I haven’t touched yet. There is always something to do!
Welcome right back at you, I've been playing since 1.0 beta back in 2010, time sure flys :)
''a problem occurred while updating. please restart FFXIV [11006][20641][20643]'''
I’ve had that issue many times, and while off the top of my head I can’t recall the fix just know it’s documented out there on the internet somewhere
Got into the game a few months ago, and I was very frustrated with how the melee DPS targets enemies, so thanks for the legacy movement controls tip. Makes it so much easier to avoid AOE (also sorry for any mystakes, not a native speaker)
Happy to help and hope you continue to enjoy the game
I'm gonna take a break from destiny and start this game today. I Look forward to joining everyone
Welcome to FFXIV and just note, destiny and ffxiv have a lot of cross-over community. :)
I hope you enjoy, let me know if you have any questions. :)
I did the same. I got bored of destiny 2 it felt too much like a chore running the same raids every week
Thank you so much for this! Incredibly helpful and makes me even more hyped to start playing :D (recently was gifted the complete edition). Very professionally done and will be checking out more videos. Makes me feel better about wanting to have 4 characters 😅
Welcome to FFXIV and I’m glad this was helpful. Hope you have a blast and let me know if you have any questions :)
You're more then welcome, and you have the right mindset. If you need anything just ask, but beyond that welcome to FFXIV. :D
This video earned you my sub. My wife and I are finally trying FFXIV after forever on WoW.
Welcome to FFXIV Joyous, hope you enjoy your time with the game and if there is anything I can do to help just let me know. Thanks for the sub too, hope you enjoy my videos, but no pressure to watch them all ;)
Warrior plays like an absolute beast, my favourite job rn, berserk plus fell cleave spam mmmmmm
Thanks yo! I was wondering what I should start as if I was wanting to main machinist lol people act like you were really gonna say “gladiator… glad is the best choose it.”
Glad I could help!
You might have wanted to say Ninja requires the msq to play if you don't start by the sea. They dont let you get there till around 15. Good info tho.
Good and fair point.
Sounds like your right brain has the right of it ;)
I haven’t played in years and just got back into it in the free trial and I’m like man I forgot how much I enjoyed this game I guess I just needed a break to appreciate it more
If I played WoW for roughly 10 years at a pretty competitive level, will I like this game?
Great video. Good overview, structure, information, and edits. Thanks for making the time to create such a clean video!
Thanks Classic for this comment, I really am glad to hear you enjoyed the video. :)
Ginger Prime what your favorite build
Have been picking up interest in this game over the past few days, and this has been INCREDIBLY helpful in forming my opinion on trying the game out. Great video!
Glad I could help! and if you need anything just let me know :)
Arcanist hands down, since summoner and scholar share the xp and level, you might as well play dungeon as healer and other thing as dps
I’m actually about to start playing as a WoW player this seems so cool and fun. Can’t wait to play bard and machinist late game :)
Welcome to FFXIV Inbound, if you need anything just let me know :)
Asmongold strikes again
Just getting into FF14 after being disappointed and dissatisfied with MMOs recently but played alot of FF as a kid so me and my mate are going to give 14 a shot and your content is super helpful earned my sub for the foreseeable future
Welcome to the channel and let me know if you need anything. Welcome to FFXIV!
Fantastic guide, I'm new to FFXIV and I found it really helpful, thanks!
Glad it helped and welcome to FFXIV! :) So glad you're checking out the game. If you need anything just let me know.
Thank you so much also new :) your videos are the best thanks again
Thanks Don, that really means a lot. Been playing 14 for a long time so I’m just thrilled I can help others enjoy the game :)
Great, thorough video. I played in 2010 and stopped until a week ago when a friend recommended I play with him. This is a great help, I've definitely been struggling with all the new content and I'll definitely be watching the controller guide. You've got my sub!!
Welcome back to FF14 Kelsey, beyond to this channel I just hope you and your friend have a blast with the game. If you need any help, just ask. :)
Rifts?
@@GingerPrimeGaming Fyea. One of the best paper/dice games out there. Think robots/demons/vampires/aliens/etc rolled into one game. It's made by Palladium games. I keep hoping they'll get into the game market, either app or pc...sadly don't think they ever will.
I would suggest Arcanist for new players , you get to level at same time a healer and a dps later on, do the solo part as dps and when need to change to group content to advance the main scenario quest go for healer for fast queue times, also carbuncle is best boy
Wait I thought the free trial is only for 30 days from the time you play it. Can someone confirm this?
Also curious about this
Free trial is unlimited, no sub, no timeframe. You will just be capped at level 60 on all jobs available through Heavensward
Just click the link in the desc of this video or download it on PlayStation
@@GingerPrimeGaming thank you for confirming this. I'm new to ff xiv, lvl 19 now and so far its been good
Dude welcome to FFXIV and happy to help. I hope you keep having an awesome time :)
I played FFXI for years, and this is very very different. I was not prepared for such a 180. It's a bummer DK doesn't use a scythe anymore though. I'm looking forward to playing through this.
100% on that scythe, but I think they have a glamor item for that, but not sure. FFXI is still my fav MMORPG.
@@GingerPrimeGaming absolutely, it was like crack for me at the time. Started playing day 1 of release up until 2009 when I Joined the Marines.
@@pullstringgoboom0811 Wow, thanks for your service, my grandfather was a marine too. I was also day 1 NA... started on Ramuh and ended up on Bizmark, not I pop in from time to time on Azura.
@@GingerPrimeGamingThats awesome, and thank you. Remember the good old days of hunting down leaping lizzy, or running from quifim before nightfall so the bogeys and banshees didn't melt your ass hahaha.
Very much so. The world was alive and dangerous
@@GingerPrimeGaming Looking forward to it but don't push yourself, happy to wait 😊
It's true, I do push myself too hard at times. Thanks Paul, I'll take these words to heart. :)
Thanks, clear explanations not treating us like we are dumb at the same time, perfect. I love ff iv been a fan since as long as I can remember but never got into the whole mmo thing. Good videos keep up the good work
Thanks for this comment, really means a lot and happy I could help in some way. :)
i will be starting ff online tommrow when i get paid soo thankyou very much for the guide i subbed and hope to check out alot more of ure content
Welcome to FF14 but I’d direct you to the free trial first as it gives you unlimited playtime, level cap 60, two expansions :)
Not checking if anyone else caught this (so sorry it this is a repeat) but to open the rouge class you have to have completed your level 10 class quest NOT just reach lvl 10. Found that out the hard way so spreading the knowledge 🙃
To change your job you have to clear the level 10 class quest, so level helps, but that is the real milestone.
Downloaded this game yesterday after over a year of watching videos like this and finally being able to buy a PC - so excited to start!
Hope you enjoy it, and if you need anything just let me know :)
started 10 days ago started as a monk, burned through all the msq stuff in 4 days and swapped sam as soon as i could and god damn i'm loving the hell outta this job. the numbers are awesome and i love lining up my Iaijutsu slashes
Dude, SAM is THE BEST. I say it's my black mage with a sword. :)
(currently lvl 71)
Of course it does help that it's fun, too :D
Aside from that, I also go to RDM. I find it a bit harder/more confusing, but still fun!
I'm also pretty new to mmorpg's, though.
Welcome to FFXIV and MMOs, Glad this video seemed to help. I'm glad you're enjoying MCH, and I also enjoy RDM :)
@@GingerPrimeGaming excellent! Thanks so much!
Anytime and I hope you enjoy :)
Going to start playing this with my two friends and this was really helpful, thanks! I loved the gunblades in FF8, so I'll definitely be going gunbreaker \m/
Welcome to FFXIV and I think you’ll really love Gunbrraker so much fun :)
Haven’t played a mmorpg since ff11 and I’m preparing to jump into ffxiv. This is the first video I’ve watched and what a great choice. Great job I can’t wait to watch more.
Aww man, I really wanted to play Samurai 😭 Now I don't know what to start with.... what would be similar, Lancer?
Yeah, start as Lancer, and when you unlock Samurai around level 50 (story not your actual level) you'll be able to jump right into the job as it starts at level 50.
Fantastic video. You really got me motivated to try FFXIV. I did something stupid and blocked myself out of setting up the account. Now I have to wait 24 hours to redo. So Monday hopefully.

subscribed wonderful guide mate i just started ff14 on controler and ur guides are a great help keep it up
So what class should you play.. all of them.
Only if that's what you want but when starting out its best to focus in on just one and at least unlock flying. Bard is a great choice for new players if you didn't catch the recommendations in the video :)
@@GingerPrimeGaming
Bard is good, but a tiny bit too proc based for my liking (currently leveling that, 53-ish), balancing the 3 songs are good exercise, but especially in low level it feels pretty boring. Heavy shot until heavier shot procs, Straight Shot, repeat.
I absolutely can agree with your gladiator recommendation though, paladin feels so good to tank with. Need to give DRK a shot once I'm done with it though.
Dark Knight is a ton of fun, and let me know what you think about it once you've unlocked it :)
I love all the classes, I went with Archer/bard.
Excellent choice. :)
Played WoW for years and years, having come back in Shadowlands. The lack of content is driving me away though, and was suggested FFIV. Snagged the complete edition for $30, letting it install overnight. Best believe I'll be binging these to understand the transition
Welcome to FFXIV... if you have any questions just hit me up.
Hope you're enjoying the game bro. The community is really welcoming and helpful.
"Ranged melee" made me laugh. I wonder if Urtlinger is a ranged melee?
Thank you for helping me decide to come back to this game I haven’t played it in about 5-6 years.
Welcome back to FFXIV if you need anything, please let me know, but happy to help, and hope you have a blast with the game :)
@@GingerPrimeGaming thanks man I appreciate it, I will say I did stop because of a toxic player but I thought about it a lot and decided that I shouldn’t let toxic players ruin a good game.
