    Side note.. there is one debuff in the game that cannot be removed with esuna, but an emote will. That is the Misery debuff inflicted by the Badmouth ability of Gremlins/Spandules in Gubal and Lost City of Amdapor. It increases damage taken and can be removed with the /comfort emote while standing in melee range of the afflicted player. It's a secret mechanic almost nobody knows

    One quick clarifying point:
    Recommended gear only works with gear in your armory chest. Gear in your inventory has to either be manually equipped or moved over to the armory chest first. This can be an issue if you let your armory chest fill up, as anything that won't fit goes into your inventory instead. Also, any gear you craft goes straight into the inventory, not the armory chest.

    • @jdogzerosilverblade299
      @jdogzerosilverblade299 2 года назад +1

      Also have everything into your inventory cuz it is annoying to manage it in the armoury chest. Also if you dont have the best gear equiped at all times on your main then your an idiot. Side role I can understand but if its your main then your doing it on purpose.

    • @danielisbell
      @danielisbell 2 года назад +11

      I'm much happier keeping gear in my armory chest. My inventory space is limited enough already. And yeah, I have a gear set with current best gear for each class. I also have a couple gear sets dedicated to specific classes for old ultimates.
      Oh, & a note on the crafted gear. I found a setting recently to change it to go into your armory instead of your inventory. Not sure if I'd want it to, but I like that the option exists.

    One bit of advice I will add, for everyone under level 50 who's yet to finish the base game of ARR, is to do with what happens between the end of the base game (after you finish the quest "The Ultimate Weapon") , and the start of the first Heavenward expansion (when you start the "Coming to Ishgard" quest)
    Every time one storyline ends, there is a series of quests before the new story/expansion starts, that sets up the foundation for that story. They can be kind of dull, but they end up being worth it when we're more immersed in the new story (instead of just being dropped in a new land, and having strangers demand we save them, we know where we are, how we got here, who we need to save, why we need to save them, and we're attached enough to want to save them)
    HOWEVER. The post-ARR quests, are the most boring part of the entire MSQ to date. You go from an epic storyline involving gods and devils and conspircies between nations.... To escorting caravans and fighting bandits, like a newbie nobody.
    However, this is actually on purpose, and while you feel like your talents are being wasted, and miss the epic combat, your character is supposed to feel the exact same way.
    Once I realised my feelings of boredom were on purpose, I enjoyed that stage of the game's storyline a lot more.
    And I promise you, it is all worth it in the end, and it never becomes that boring ever again. Every expansions Post-story quests are kinda dull, but they're always important to the upcoming story, and usually still fun and engaging.
    So push through those BS Post-ARR quests, embrace the feeling of boredom, and reach the Heavenward expansion. It's honestly leagues above the storyline of the base game, and when the game truly opens up.

  • @ShittyReloader
    @ShittyReloader Год назад +158

    One tip I would add is when doing the msq, you might want to have two jobs that you do that with. You get so much xp from the msq quests that you'll eventually will become way higher level than the level requirement for your quests. That means that you'll reach full level with your job way before you reach the end of the msq. From then on doing the msq with a full level job is a waste of a lot of xp. Have two classes that you trade doing the msq with. Start them at close to the same level. Then make sure to switch between jobs before you reach an msq quest with a higher level requirement than the lowest level of those jobs. It's also a good opportunity to learn two different roles early in the game.

      It's great to use the MSQ to level a DPS then a healer or tank to queue for MSQ duties like dungeons or trials. When it comes down to it, regular MSQ quests may rarely have you doing anything other than DPSing (which *is* after all the #1 priority for all jobs all the time) so when it comes to learning how to tank and how to heal, most of that is going to happen in dungeons.

    • @robertboyle6001
      @robertboyle6001 3 месяца назад +2

      @@mayn90s19 It's never too late. You'll need to level a new class up to the same level as the MSQ but it actually can go quite quickly. (1) you will receive an XP boost called the Armoury Bonus. Any job under your highest level job gets double XP on monster kills, FATEs, and Deep Dungeons like Palace of the Dead (have you started that quest yet? It begins in the Carline Canopy, Gridania's inn, and is a decent way to level jobs). (2) You have your hunting log. At low levels, running around killing monsters on your log while you complete FATEs will level you pretty fast, particularly with that Armoury Bonus. (3) Once you get high enough in level (16 is it?) start queueing for dungeons while you run around doing FATEs and hunting logs.
      What to pick? Doesn't really matter. If you're interested in playing a tank or a healer, now would be a great opportunity since you already have a DPS up to 35. Arcanist can be an interesting choice -- it is the only class that has two jobs (magical DPS Summoner and Shield Healer Scholar) and you level up both at the same time. The thing is, don't be too concerned about slowing down to find a better fit. If you can't decide between two or three, try leveling each up to 35. Get some decent playtime on each, take them into some dungeons, and see how they feel. That's one of the great things about FFXIV -- you can play EVERYTHING on the same character. So take advantage of that. The earlier the better.

  • @Windupchronic
    @Windupchronic 2 года назад +234

    I would suggest _not_ using the recommended gear option if you're a tank. It will slot in the highest ilevel item, which may not even be a piece of tank gear, and you may end up losing a lot of defense, because you're suddenly wearing a leg piece that a tank has no business wearing in a dungeon. Once you get further along in the game this won't matter, as tanks will only be able to equip tank gear. But when you're starting there's a lot of gear tanks can technically equip that they really should not be equipping, certainly not in dungeons.

    I will say, "focus on MSQ," yeah I did that through Heavensward and now the side quests don't make as much sense, so maybe do some of the yellow side quests along the way because they play along with the story. I'm not making this mistake again when I go forward with the story. I was already over leveled and I'm leveling up another job to continue the MSQ, and if you get over leveled you can always start a class that starts at level 50, 60, now 70 in later expansions. Some advice I've seen is that this game is 10 years worth of content that's had gaps in between expansions, it's ok to take your time to work through it.

    • @Slade1135
      @Slade1135 Год назад

      Exactly this. The syncing process clears all ability-based buffs in order to make it easy to confirm you don't start with any buffs you couldn't have at the target level. Tank stance falls into this category. So basically the habit becomes a little assessment: "Is this dungeon below my current level? I better turn tank stance on!" Technically this also happens with Fates in the open world. As dancer I keep having to put my dance partner buff on my chocobo again every time I sync.

    There are two words that finally sold me on this game. I've had friends who have been playing this game since 2.0 and I kept putting it off after bad experiences in WoW. But the thing that sold me.... "Slow Burn"
    I love me a deep slow progression in story, that takes it's time to build up a world and the characters within it before slowly ramping up into an unbelievable EPIC!
    The funny thing is, I've been playing the game for almost a year now, and have had so much fun in just that beginning slow burn section I've barely played the main story and have constantly been changing classes so I can do all the low level side quests without worrying about wasting potential XP. I explored pretty much ALL of ARRs overworld while my main combat class was still in the early 20's due to getting both Mining and Botanist to level 50 BEFORE EVEN UNLOCKING THE ABILITY TO GET A MOUNT. Thus allowing me to just walk right past high level mobs without them attacking me. 😂
    It's been a blast!

    • @pointlessmike
      @pointlessmike 2 года назад +1

      Healers are an exception to the rule because tanks are the ones capable of rotating their mitigations with only like 15-20sec gaps every few minutes. A healer is meant to hold cds to make up the downtime or to make up for mistakes. I'm talking about the 2 or 3 oh-shit buttons that have 2min cds or higher. The perfect example is Rescue. It's perfectly fine to go an entire dungeon without ever using it. Anyone who tells you to pull a tank into more mobs in an effort to "optimize completion speed" is a troll. Same for benediction. Use it in combination with invulns, use it right after rezzing someone, but don't let your tank drop to 5% in a random pull just so you can put in on CD and say to yourself "I've used all the tools at my disposal! I am the superior efficient healer!"

    I'm sure someone else has mentioned this, but one mistake I made as a newbie was getting gear from everything!! You do not need to get gear from quest rewards that aren't for your job or class. If you intend to pick up another job, then yes. Get that. But not everything! It overflows your armory chest and starts to overflow your inventory! That makes it more difficult to equip the gear you actually need. Spare yourself. You can always get the gear you need when you go back on another job, I promise!

    your enmity generator is on by default if you're entering dungeons of your own level if you already have it on before going in, it turns off when you get synced down because the code is not good at decreasing the power of an active buff so it gets rid of all active buffs and Enmity generators are considered a buff.

      If I may offer some other advice that might benefit you if you haven't reach the first expansion yet
      After you finish the main story of ARR (aka after you finish the quest "The Ultimate Weapon") there will be some very boring quests that slow the pace of the story down to a crawl.
      This is on purpose! At this point in the story, you are the Warrior of Light, the saviour of Eorzea! You did insane things, saved the world, and now? There's nothing left to do. The land is at peace, you won, and being an war hero during peace times is boring as hell.
      So don't give up on the game when you reach this point. Push through. The story gets much better from Heaven ward to onwards, n and the space between expansions is never as boring as it was here ever again.

    1. As a tank I pull every mob possible before the dungeon stops me because you can maximize DPS from AOEs in those moments. If the healer can keep up you might as well allow the most amount of damage to the most amount of enemies as the dungeon will allow. Nearly all AOE has no limit-max to output due to enemies hit count.
    2. Every job is fun. Every job is useful. Every job is rewarding. Choose what looks fun and don't be scared to change later.
    3. The story can be a big sloggy but it is great try to avoid skipping AT LEAST cut scenes.
    4. Don't forget your side-unlocks, lol I did.
    5. Don't fall behind on job quests. Huge, and very class/job important functions, can be locked behind job quests.
    6. The "equip best loadout" almost exclusively uses the iLVL to grade gear and below max level this is almost ALWAYS 100% the best choice to wear at any point. You shouldn't be worrying about min/max of stats until end game content anyway.
    7. Always AOE at 3+ mob groups. Few exceptions to this rule. Use single target rotations on 1-2 pulls and try to focus on whichever mob has lowest health.
    8. I'm going to skip the tank/healer/DPS mistakes and just say this: every class has at least 1 type of damage over time attack. This attack is VERY important to consistent DPS. Don't let this fall off and DON'T overwrite it with a new instance until as low as possible in the run-time on the skill. This also applies to anything that increases other player's damage to the enemy, or damage FROM the enemy/boss prior to a tank buster or room AOE. In short: DoT uptime YES, and damage DOWN before big hits.
    Great video for sure, cheers mate.

    one reason tank stance isn't on automatically is because in anything with more than one tank it can be a pain if enmity is constantly switching between tanks, and it can be useful for tank swaps in harder content to turn it on in the middle of a fight, however they could have it turn on automatically in any instance that has only one tank. However the problem with that could be people get too reliant on the game turning it on for you and in the aforementioned content they might not be prepared to use it consciously.

    Use the "Hide Armory Items" instead. Then set your new items to go into inventory instead of the armory chest. That way the trash items in your inventory is all that shows up. The difference is that as you are leveling other jobs you may hang onto a piece of gear that you don't want to sell but is not attached to a particular set yet..

  • @zeddtango8193
    @zeddtango8193 2 года назад +7

    Okay. So in regards to the enmity skill for tanks. The reason that it sometimes stays on and other times it gets turned off; has to do with level sync. If you are a tank going into a piece of content that you do not have to sync down to it will stay on. If you go into a piece of content that you need to be synced down to, then it will be turned off upon entering.
    My best guess is this has to do with what happens to your skills when you get synced down. It is probably easier to just turn off all of those skills to make sure that the right version is loaded on the hotbar

    • @Slade1135
      @Slade1135 Год назад

      Yeah, the process is designed to clear all ability-based buffs. From a design perspective I imagine that would be easier than generating a list of specific things to clear that would then have to constantly be updated every time any class got changed or reworked. It's also why things like food don't get affected.

    Regarding the raising item level is EZ section, there are job quests each time you hit the previous expansion's cap and it gives you the item level gear that is enough to do all of the content at that time. So there isn't much reason to spend poetics on gear for the purpose of item level, just do it for the glamours.

    Definitely disagree about doing other things while doing the story. If you're that worried about being overleveled, you just have another class that you're working on as well and just choose whichever character isn't overleveled to play the story. There's enough in the game aside from the story that you definitely shouldn't zero-in on just the story.

So if you're like me and tend to overlevel a lot (screw you, Khloe) you might have to stick to dungeon gear until you're done with that expansion.

      To extract materia, you need to complete a lv. 19 quest from The Bonfire, just north of Black Brush in Central Thanalan. To fly in ARR areas, you need to finish ARR. A short while after you reach Heavensward, you will get a story quest that will reward you with an Aether Compass. You can use this item to find aether currents in each area (some aether currents require you to complete certain side quests, mark with the blue + symbol). After unlock all of the aether currents in an area, you will be able to fly in that area. Hope this helps.
      Also the aether compass does not go into your normal inventory, it is under a different menu called collectibles, I suggest setting it to one of your cross/hot bars to make it easier to find, as you'll use it in each of the expansions.

    • @silverian

      To use Extract Materia button, you need to wear armor or selected piece certain amount of time and do battle. This is how gear gathers materia in it. If selected item is only inventory and not used, it will not gather materia..

    Something a lot of these types of videos leave out is that the "slow burn" of ARR is a massive understatement. Its nearly 100 hours before the story actually gets good. If you're not invested in the gameplay loop of MMO's going in, you will have an absolutely miserable time and I don't recommend playing at all.
