- Today I am taking Dan & Meredith through a Mountain Dog Style leg workout. You might think this it a bit crazy for Dan & Meredith but just know they have been training like this for quite some time and its just another day in the office. I have been working with Dan and Meredith for a while so they know what to expect with this workout. I want you to give this leg workout a try and let me know how you like it. I know you might not have some of the equipment just use what you have to best simulate it.

I really envy the people who train with John. Would love to have a coach like him.
This dude has the best vibe for training. Non-douchey, patient, supportive.
“We don’t want to kill you, the last set is a different story” - How calmly you said that was the most terrifying thing ever. If I ever want to die midway through a leg day, I’ll definitely take a coaching session from you🤘🏽
hahahahah!!!!
Wow he can fly with that rubiks cube, i could barely see what he was doing lol. Good stuff!
Mountain dog is my fav person in the fitness industry such a genuine humble and knowledgeable man wish you the most of success brother
thank you for the kind words!
mountaindog1 no problem brother it’s the truth ! Keep doing you !
The leg workout was intense but seeing the Rubix cube countdown made my heart rate go up. Good so see Alexander's progressive rubix resistance
:))))
When I see John and Legs, I know this gonna be brutal
You're not kidding. It's freaking brutal from start to finish. BUT I'm getting the best results I've ever had
How can you not love this guy ❤
My gym doesn't have Rubik's cubes. My legs will never grow!
The best thing about John is no matter if your Mr Olympia Jay Cutler or an anonymous person commenting on his channel you get equal levels of respect and time. Top guy
thank you!
I’ve been looking for exercise inspo for leg day to work around patellar tendinitis - great tips as always 🔥
Is it really a leg work out if John doesn't start the session without leg curls?
we did!
mountaindog1 mountaindog1 You should start making videos that aren't quite so LONNNNGGG... 🙂 ...they’re always good though! 🙌🏽
Jason Predick i like them this long, i would easily look at a 1hr video as well! They are always packed with knowledge from start to finish.
@@cyclist5000 the longer the better John is sharing his years of experience with his clients and we get it for free ,. Gold Dust my friend
@@cyclist5000 we like the long videos bud... Sorry that we don't have short attention spans 😜
15:30 nicest looking trap bar I've ever seen, every single gym I've ever been to had some cheap nasty steel version with smooth handles and 0 possible modifications
Ikr like damn, their equipment there is unbelievable
Got one at my gym, they're awesome. Think I'll use it today and do my pull workout tomm
anyone know the brand? I want to know where I can get one.
Kabuki Strength
mountaindog1 it looks like Eleiko makes something similar ruclips.net/video/NkMgieEScYc/видео.html
As soon assaw the title say leg workout, I automatically felt sore and now can't walk.
hahahahaah!!!
You've helped the young Man to get really strong ( I always like to see that). I like the Gal's ethic and courage (and smile). You have a Fatherly teaching style......I think it's the right way. I really love the energy.
I love that John puts in lil videos of his son. He seems like such an encouraging dad. Makes me realise how bad my daddy issues are 😂
having this type of gym equipment would be a dream
You don't hit legs... legs hit you
i've been following you John for about 3 months now and wish i would have found you earlier. i'm seeing and feeling awesome gains!! thanks for the knowledge you share
Welcome aboard!
This message is from the most quarantined place in the world now.North Italy. As i got some tendonitis in my right knee this workout is just awsome. When our life turn back to normal ( we hope) it will be the first thing to do in the gym.Second : i'm really worried because Meadows jr. solve the rubik better than some President understand the expression pandemia...lol.
yea I had a seminar scheduled for May in Milan - had to cancel
@@mountaindog1 I know.I should be there. But we will overcome this.Italy "ti vuole una montagna di bene" ,mr Meadows.Hope you can be here as soon as possibile.
mountain dog leg work out? let me grab my popcorn
Love this channel because I learn so much about proper form. Its also motivation for the gym to push harder, and yet while watching, I feel so relaxed. Its like Mountaindog1 is my guide. Love you king
And I'm definitely trying this Leg Workout!
Good time Alexander!
Great explanation MD!
Knowledge and energy: two hallmarks of a great trainer. Thanks John.
That machine squat is great, it almost simulates a standard low bar squat. People with long femurs can have a hard time getting proper depth, but the low bar squat is the safest way when you don’t have that machine. Really glad we saw two people hitting different depths to their ability.
exactly!!!
Lmao she got Dr. Doucette's trademark shirt. (TRAIN HAAARDER) 😂
TRAIN HARD
HOW HARD?
HARDER
Harder than last time!
I was almost in tears watching you all do a leg workout!
Shows a lot about you that you take the time to stop what you're doing.....i know these videos arent easy to pump out one after another everyday and let your son have a little spot light! Probably means the world to him!
these videos are incredibly helpful to me. not only for the obvious knowledge you share but seeing the intensity with which legs have to be hit with. i thought my leg workout today was tough, it wasnt anything compared to this!
That pendulum squat machine looks amazing . Want to use one so bad.
best trainer in the town baby👍👍
The motivation I get from these vids is beyond awsome! Great vid John 👍
Man John... Your son is one smart cookie!
14:07 the main reason this bar is great, is how you can put the plates on and just tip it forward. way better than a normal bar
Both of them are huge and strong! Crazy couple💪💪
I like the half time shows with Alexander haha they always catch me off guard but I'm always super impressed 👌
Your sons a freaking genius man!! That's bad ass I love his little segments!
thank you!
Anytime brotha, thank you for all the great content!! Super informative!
Even though I have a limited home gym set-up and don't get to train with machines. I love your videos, man. Start to finish!
Alexander, that rubik cube skills are amazing! Well done! Also John, I love your videos, tons of great information and motivation! You are a great coach and such a good person! Thank you for all your content! Best wishes
Naples!!
Dang I'm 46 years old, the Rubik's cube came out when I was a kid and i couldn't solve it even close to that fast!!! Amazing!!!
It would literally be my DREAM for you to train me! Such an inspiration !!!
Damn your son's rubix cube skills are impressive!!!
Great video too by the way mountain dog haha
Great legwork , you guys are spoilt with such great machines 🍀🍀
Boy has great rubiks skills. I was mesmerized 10 secs in
I LOVED the Rubik's Cube break! I've been into cubing for about 3 weeks now and 1 minute 37 seconds is my best; 43 seconds is unbelievable. Well done!
very cool!
Kudos to John's son. Not only a yo-yo master, but also a Rubix cube whiz!!!
I got hit by a car head on 20 years ago, herniated/ crushed my L5S1. Always have spondylothesis before that too. X-ray many years later (I get one every few years to monitor my training program) clearly showed that I had rehabilitated my own L5S1 like nothing ever happened- although I still have very little space between all my discs. I suffered nerve damage down my left side from the initial pinch of the accident sadly. Now, two decades later, that slight lack or motor skill response on one side resulted in unstable intense barbell squats. Damn, they were my favorite. (I had to learn to love the hardest exercise, but it put lots of muscle on me when I was younger- transformed my whole body the hard way). Now the atrophy is causing me to feel really shitty- I still have incredible ability and drive, and srength at age 60, but I feel like a child who needs advice. John, is there anything I can do to perhaps put the great mass I had on my thighs and hips before the nerve damage set in? I actually have the Tru Squat, the Safe squat (belt squat) but no good leg press and certainly not a pendulum squat machine. I used machines 40 years ago but found that nothing beat heavy high rep barbell squats for leg/ hip mass and overall metabolic activation. Please help. Any advice from an experienced PRO like yourself in terms of injuries and nerve damage / scoliosis/ back support vis-a-vis maximum leg force application would be highly appreciated.
John your boy is amazing! His cognitive abilities are off the charts!
Plus your leg workout is fantastic. My leg workouts are lacking due to my emergency L5/S1 disk surgery a few years ago, 1/3 blew out. Getting older sucks. Can you please provide me a good substitute for squats?
Or does the odd shaped squat bar you use remove pressure off of the lower back while squatting?
Thanks
Sully
leg press for sure
I go to the gym now to feel the Meadow's burn.
MORE YO-YO TRICK from the son! THAT FREEEKING RUBIKS CUBE!!!!
Nice session
check todays video
What a great coach, its too bad he's gone.
Wow Alexander Light speed!
Wow John that was amazing with the cube, should be proud of the little man 👌
am for sure!
My gym actually just got this bar so this video will be very informative
Love the tank top!
You've got one talented kid.
Dang John that workout hurt me just watching it. Those clients held nothing back though, great job guys!!
they worked hard!
That Hip Press machine seems like a well designed equipment; the movement of the legs is free
Wooow, I wish my Gym had these types of machines, instead we're left with the same equipment the Cave men worked out on
Nice!
Great video! Worried about if I'm gonna be able to go to the gym here in the UK cause the Coronavirus...
When I went last night, it was very empty. Which was nice 😎
Great informative video💪
looks like fun!
Hey John, first of all, thanks for the great content, as usual.I was thinking, with the new Covid-19 pandemic, some countries are closing gyms for a period, amongst other preventative measures. So I was wondering, how about a home workout video, with minimal or no equipment?Something like maintenance work, until things get as back to normal as possible. There are various home workout videos on youtube, but I believe people would be far more interested in the approach of a true pro bodybuilder to a home workout.
its coming!
💪💜Great job Alexander⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🙌
👍🏼 Alexander is a boss!
every time i watch a john meadows video i come away motivated ,great workout always looking for new leg workouts as a football player (soccer) ,will give this a try tonight 👍 ,also kids a whizz on that rubiks cube ,talented family
Awesome . My leg day today so will give it a shot and more :-)
That shirt she is wearing is incredibly dope!!!!
Quality stuff bro
Damn, just finished my leg workout
Great content nevertheless
I'm really digging doing partial reps lately, on leg curls and extensions in particular.
If you're not doing them, give them a shot. They pump in extra blood in places that full reps don't. Embrace that pain.
oh yea...man i love those too
@@mountaindog1
haha I figured you did. I'm sure I learned them from you.
It's fun torturing hammies and quads that way lol
Great workout. I need to find a gym with that hip press. That looks excellent! Great time on the Rubik's cube, Alexander!
I love the energy everyone’s showing in this video. Puts a smile to your face
I love your videos John!
My gym closed because of corona :(
where are you located?
@@mountaindog1
In the Netherlands
@@underrated_hippo4422 die van mij is nog gwn lekker open hoor, welke stad?
Man, it’s weird but I’m beginning to look forward to the Rubik’s cube spots more than the actual work out 🤣
as long as you look forward to something!
Wow Alex!
Cool...the "I don't have access to ANY of this equipment" workout.
Would love to come train with you some day!
Legend has it John meadows likes every comment
not all of them, but most :)
mountaindog1 every nice comment*
Her shirt is dope!!!
Woooo! Please, I beg for a video talking more about training "vas medialis". From what I've heard in this video, it reduces knee injury/pain. To train it doing hip press we need to increase range of motion.
I'm just curious if we tilt our leg angle during leg extension to target it; or training the outter part of our quads ALSO reduces knee injury/pain.
After doing lots of deadlifts and hamstring curls, my knee went from walking with pain to I guess fairly normal. But I really want to take it to the next level.
Man that hip press looks smooth!!!
super smooth!
💪💜So glad you talked about the mussle to support the knee 🆕My 91yearoldfather is Trying to strengthen his mussels around his knee I thought it was Qwads...now I know.,, 👍
I've increasingly noticed that most lifters go way to fast even though there are countless articles and videos that time under tension is superior. What is their mind set going this tempo?
when you get fatigued tempo slows down naturally meaning myosin crossbridges are locked into actin filaments and produce more force as they have too, which created more mechanical tension
There's more research showing that *artificially* slowing down reps is inferior for strength and growth. Slow reps are good for learning to use the right muscles, but if you're engaging everything properly, the concentric can be fast as you can (which won't be that fast if you're using decent weight).
Time under tension doesn't necessarily equate to "slow reps". Time under tension relates to the amount of time the muscles are under tension, AKA how long the set lasts. Research I've seen shows sets should last a minimum of 40 seconds in order to maximize TUT. In Mountain Dog's videos, he makes most sets last MUCH longer than 40 seconds, but not all of them have "slow reps". But yes, in some instances slow reps are better
John killed them in this video hehehe.
This makes me want to train that hard tomorrow (legs day), but i got no John in the GYM i go to...
Such a great trainer!! #GoMD
Your son seems like an intelligent kid. Like father like son i suppose.
*SMART TRAINING*: Start legs with isolation moves (Single joint movements) such as: Leg curls and Leg extensions to draw blood into your muscles and joints. One of my favorites “Pre-exhaust” technic (17-25 reps) then hit your compound moves.
do you usually do one set of 17-25 reps?
Richard Kim 3-4 sets of high reps (17-25)
Aleks González will try that! Thanks for the advice
No "alright hi Everybody John Meadows here" in this video :(
its "alright hi everybody." dont argue. im Phd. on Johnmeadowism.
@@almightybilly updated.. and lol
haha!!!
I have one thing to say. I don't work legs as hard as I used to when I was younger....and they're not as big. Pretty much says it all.
I wanna be a mountain dog too!!!
I need these machines in the gyms by me
Wft was that. Ive never solved a rubix cube in my life and this kid does it like its nothing
15:50 does anyone else notice how close he was to blacking out right here
16:10 she must be dreaming of skiing, if not, dunno what she's doin 😂
That is one of Arnold's signature exercises
John, would you suggest Yo-Yo and Rubik's Cube supersets? How bout isoholds with our cube fingers? 😋
