@@muhammadherjuno5565 Look up bootcamp for macOS. very simple. you just need windows key and can partition your hard drive for windows. Essentially you can have mac and windows on same machine but can only use them one at a time
That’s certainly the better configuration to go for I think, good to hear it still performs. The screen still does blow me away! Going on 5 years old but still among the best.
@@tomscott88 I have a work issued M2 Macbook Pro, it's great. But 2 problems, 1 I need it to also run Windows and currently Apple silicon sucks at that. 2 Price/performance difference from my 2019 16" just isn't there yet, it would be a mistake to run out and spend $2k+ just for the sake of having the latest when my old 2019 still suits my needs.
Am thinking of getting it..but am worried as people here say its prone to just totally just self destructing and getting totalled..I do video editing and currently have a 2018 16g ram macboom but going for the 2019 32g ram..u think its a worthy upgrade for what I do thanks
the last Intel MacBooks actually came out in 2020 i own one of them (an i5 MacBook Air), and i’m really pissed that Apple released the M1 models so late, instead of during the summer, when everyone (including me) was making purchases for school. i definitely would’ve preferred the M1 MacBook Air with the significantly better battery life
I have the 2020 Intel 13" MacBook Pro and it runs like dogshit with the last few versions of macOS. I get 3-4hrs of battery (health is 89%), runs hot, slows down. Very very very tempted to upgrade to an M3 Pro
I had the intel 13'' 2020 mbp as well.. I'm using the M1 version now and it's not even comparable lol I'm upgrading soon just for the newer display technology that's the only reason tho lol well maybe that and the better port selection! Definitely worth the upgrade to a M series MacBook @@123moe
I was in the exact same boat. I needed a Mac for Filmschool, so I had no other choice but to buy the same 2019 Mac in the video. It's still really fast, and devoured every task I throw at it. But the future for the machine isn't promising.
It has! I have a 2019 Space Gray 16-inch MacBook Pro and it's still a powerful machine. I bought it refurbished directly from Apple. They just installed a new battery, put on a brand-new base by the keyboard, and changed the speakers for no cost because I have Apple Care + for it which you can get on their refurbished products. There are a couple of downsides to the laptop which are not a big deal. Yes, it doesn't have the M1 or later processors like the new MacBooks have with Apple Intelligence. Also, it doesn't have Wi-Fi 6, but I still get fast speeds Wi-Fi speeds up to 700 mbps.
Still use mine. i9 with 64gb of RAM, AMD 5500 and 1TB. Using for work the entire day and for having fun watching movies and playing some games like World of Warcraft sometimes. Nothing to worry about on it, zero lag, zero problems
I have a 2019 MBP 16 inch with i9 9980HK, 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD and Pro 5600M HBM2. CPU and GPU repasted using Honeywell PTM7950. Added thermal putty for VRMs and other components. The thing runs like a beast, on the same level as a M3 and much better than any older M chips. Temperature NEVER exceeds 85 degrees Celcius. Set the fans at ~3800 rpm and they are almost silent while still giving good cooling performance (they will only start to become a little bit noisy by ~4500 rpm, but I dont care because where I live, industrial-grade fans are used all the time in households instead of air conditioners). So I would say, the problem does not come from the machine, but from the user!
@@HelloThereFoe I'm staying at Monterey. There are issues with Ventura and Sonoma on Intel Macs, not worth the risk for me. My system runs everything I need smoothly. Only Adobe apps need the latest OS version, so I switch over to Windows whenever I have to use them.

I actually picked one of these up a couple of days ago to replace my 2015 15inch as my daily driver. I feel like I got a fantastic deal as I picked up a top spec i9 and 5600m equipped one with 32gigs of ram and a tb of storage for £800. The only downside was that the bottom bezel was cracked on the screen. But I looked into it, it's still in warranty as it was purchased by an enterprise customer in September 2021 (Bet he felt really dumb a month after when the m1 pros came out) At least for the last couple of days that I've owned it, it runs super cool at about 35 degrees while doing normal computer stuff like watching videos or web browsing. But it does get quite hot doing anything demanding such as a bit of windows gaming that I do and I brought it to its knees exporting my Xcode project. But I find it tops out at 85 degrees with the fans at max. So far anyway, I'm really loving this computer. I'm definitely bummed that I can't upgrade anything on it though, for my hyper weird use case I find that it's pretty much perfect for me being the most powerful intel MacBook that Apple made.
You know what, that’s a pretty powerful machine for that price, yeah. Glad you see good use out of it. Those M1 Pros are still so out of reach price-wise that it’s genuinely not the worst idea to just buy a 2019 and sell it when the 2021s come down in price. Thermal performance probably depends on how the paste is doing, to be fair. Glad yours is good!
@@montaguebarnabasltd I'm honestly super happy so far and the nice thing is that since it's still on warranty I can take it in and get that crack on the screen sorted for free and they'll do the thermal paste at the same time since the logic board has to come out to get the screen off on these. So I'll be laughing with my nearly new 16 inch that runs super cool. At the time these came out it was a dream machine for me since it was powerful, fixed all the issues with the previous butterfly keyboard Macs while keeping the in my opinion really beautiful design of the Touch Bar generation. But I wasn't planning on shelling out £3500 of a new one at the time. So as you would imagine getting one at £800 is pretty much a dream come true for me. By the way, really love your videos. I watch every single one. Please keep doing what you're doing. Much love from another Mac lover.
@@Xalite_ I think that machine will be comfortable for the next half decade, tbh. Nice one. Man, I can’t state enough how much the last part of your comment meant to me. Thanks, and expect more of the same!
35deg idle... ye I don't believe it. Mine sits at 65-70 idle then goes up to 80 as soon as you open safari. Mines the same spec apart from I have the 5500M. Awful machines, biggest waste of 5k ive ever spent. my m1 MacBook Air walks it in everything but graphical tasks but then its not that far behind.
@tomscott88 I completely understand your scepticism, we all know that Intel Macs are pretty much dinosaurs at this point at least compared to the shiny new apple silicon Macs. But at least at time of writing having owned this 16 inch for a couple of days with a fresh install of Sonoma it wakes from sleep at 35 degrees, sits between that and 40 at idle. Then heats up to around 50 degrees doing normal web browsing or content viewing after about 20 minutes, don't get me wrong when I do throw things at it it'll heat up but I find it tops out at 85 degrees with the fans at max. Being an Xcode developer obviously I can't speak for other things but compiling my current project brought it to its knees and sent it straight to that 85 degrees and set the jet turbines into overdrive. The only reasons I can think of as to why I'm seeing dramatically different results compared to everyone else is A: This specific Intel 16 inch is a decent bit newer that most of them that are kicking around because it was manufactured on September 2021. And B: since as of time of writing my part of the uk is sitting at -4 degrees and my house isn't the warmest in the world I would imagine that the ambient temps are probably having an effect on the operating temps of the MacBook. But at the end of the day the best computer for someone is one that fits their needs the best and at least right now this MacBook is fitting all of mine perfectly and I'm glad that the M1 Air fits yours.
I just bought one of these barely 3 weeks ago and I can’t get enough of it. I’m not creating videos or anything really processor intensive. Bought this as my go to, home based internet surfing machine. I stream a lot of videos so it handles that with entirely capable aplomb. This is my 3rd MacBook Pro - the first bought in 2017 was a refurbished Early 2011 MBP which quickly got upgraded to 8GB RAM and a 1TB SSD - it’s presently running MacOS Monterey via OpenCore Legacy Patcher - and is entirely usable for standard internet based surfing, video streaming or word processing. My MacBook Pro Late 2019 16” i7 512GB SSD 16GB RAM just upgraded to MacOS Sequoia natively - it’s supported - well done Apple! I’m totally elated with this now “budget” premium machine in 2024 - totally worth it. 😊
The 16 model is a steal, it is december 2024 and if you are patient in ebay you can find with 32 GB around 500 EUR in auction. Excellent option if someone wants to use it with the bootcamp for windows
@@jeffthro09 it’s hard to outline it all in the comments section here, but do a google images search for “thermal pads 2019 macbook pro mod”, and you’ll see images and links. I bought a pack of thermal pads that range from .5mm to 4mm, and used those to build up my MBP. After that, I used iStat menus to Sam more aggressive fan profile, but you can use other tools as well. The bottom of my case gets hotter, but overall the system performs better over long periods of time. I did the same for a few other computers as well. Pretty nice overall. The bottom does get hotter, but I rarely ever put it on my lap, though, and I have it set to low power mode on battery, so that’ll throttle it down for when I do wanna work on my lap
I got this model and its best of apple craftsmanship pieces ever build, no regret. I am not looking to M series, even I am working with audio & video editing, it performs excellent till today. And I need touch-bar, that's my daily drive.
I have the 2.4 GHz 8 core i9 with 64 GB of 2667 MHz DDR4 memory. This thing has been with me through the thick and thin and it still runs beautifully. I bought an M1 Macbook Air when they first came out to see what all the noise was about and it runs well too, but I am still in love with my 2019 16 inch MacBook Pro!
I’ve got the 2019 2.4 i9 32gb ram, 1TB, 5500m 8gb. Honestly drives me mad it’s hot all the time, battery life is abysmal and apart from graphics my m1 MacBook Air 8/8 16gb 1tb runs circles around it. For example last night I ran 110 images through ai noise reduction in lightroom and it took 520 minutes. Ridiculous. Even base things like an hour teams meeting will completely drain the battery. There’s not much to like about this it’s big heavy slow and a complete waste of £5k. The only benefit is dual booting into windows.
I have to strongly agree with you there. That’s in theory the best laptop apple offered up until 2021, but it feels sloppy compared to M1. When I used one for most of last year it didn’t feel worth the money. Saying that, Windows laptops aren’t much better right now. You’re not in the worst position I suppose. Best of luck with the machine either way, and thanks for watching as always.
I was amazed how quickly Apple abandoned the highly expensive Mac Pro 2019, already the late 2022 released AMD 7000 GPU series were not supported anymore, around 3 years after release of the pricey machine.
Absolutely. For Apple it makes sense financially, of course. Was hoping to get one eventually, until I saw how quickly they were killed off… I guess it’s just a reality check; successful companies are rarely your friends.
its rather strange too, considering how much work they put into making a super elegant module system for it. Only to essentially drop the entire module system and the devices support.
Honestly, I don’t know why there’s so much hate for this MacBook- I have a 16” 2019 with i9/32GB and for most everything it is great. If you turn on low power mode it really helps with the heat, and battery life. Using windows on it is fantastic, better than any actual windows laptop I’ve had despite the poor battery life. Yes it’s not an m series chip but for most everyone out there this machine runs perfectly fine not to mention the fantastic screen and speakers
I agree they’re very capable machines. For the price, though, it’s really not acceptable. These days their price reflects their performance - it’s gone down a lot after apple silicon!
@@montaguebarnabasltd agreed, compared to apple silicon it’s hard to justify spending anything above even 700$ for one these. If you can find one for below that though it’s a decent machine for the price!
@@justinb.stouffer1607 my boss just grabbed the new 16” MBP with M3 Pro chip so I bought his 2019 16” MBP i7 for $400, perfect condition. I feel I got a good deal I hope??
i didn’t have a 16” - but i had a 2016 15” which was then upgraded by Apple to a 2018 15” for a long time. Until 2021ish i used that thing daily for video editing and game development. It was honestly the bane of my existence. The heat was terrible, the keyboard was awful, the performance left a lot to be desired even compared to a 2013 trash can. The hardware problems were ridiculous - i had every problem you could think of with these. creaking and popping (yes, popping) cases, blown speakers, flex gate after a screen repair, keyboard repairs left and right including one I paid $800 out of pocket for before the keyboard repair program. I upgraded to a 14” MBP M1, cheapest base model, and I’ve not looked back. Unfortunately the 2018 no longer works - sometime after upgrading to the 14” and storing the 2018, the Wifi card mysteriously died. I was going to give it to a friend until that happened.
Before low power mode was introduced, I used two utilities: one to disable turbo boost on the processor locking it around a max of 2.6ghz and another to disable the dedicated graphics card. Most of the time I was running with no turbo boost and no AMD GPU - the heat and performance were still miserable. It’s a shame because I wanted to keep that laptop for at least 8 years but it was too much. I even bought a 2015 13” to supplement my mobile experience and tried to leave the 2018 alone as much as I could.
I'd love a reason to upgrade from my 19MBP. I do word processing and applications that run on browsers. There is zero reason to upgrade. Nice big screen and works flawlessly. ☹
Just picked one up in 2024 for $350 on eBay. 60 day return policy. Let's see if I like it or not compared to the trustworthy 2015 MacBook Pro 13" i5 8gb base model
It will be a very sad day when the support for intel macs stop because if you go on eBay the amount of people buying and bidding on intel macs is quite high. What i really hate about the modern macs is that they are not user upgradeable or fixable which makes them outright extremely costly and then even more costly if something goes wrong in them. The good thing about the intel macs is being able to dual boot with a different OS so there will be options to use latest software for a while yet even some people run Windows 11 on the 2010 macbooks and it looks like it runs quite smoothly for them. I do think Apple and Microsoft are going to be responsible for unprecedented ewaste in the next few years and they will probably face quite a lot of backlash for it from all sections of society.
I agree. Especially interesting to think about the ramifications a decade or so down the line for these companies, yep. I doubt they’ll face any real consequences, even thinking about the amount of scrapped batteries they’ve been responsible for is daunting, though.
@@montaguebarnabasltd a lot of government run things are not as technologically advanced as you would think, they use quite old computers that chug along with Windows 10, it will be interesting to see if there’s any magical change with Microsoft’s plans over the next few years. @@ColinsCity yeah, history Microsoft have struggled to get users to move onto their next Windows release, when the current one still works. I suppose it’ll just be a lack of security updates ETC that force everyone, government or otherwise, to move to 11 and onwards…
@@montaguebarnabasltd I think the biggest issue for the slow take up of Windows 11 was the extreme requirements expected of hardware, it's basically windows 10 with AI and Ads so i can't understand why any Windows 10 running computer couldn't run it. When they ended support for XP a few years ago there will stay many businesses running it and there are still some running it to this day, imagine if they had just spent lots of money upgrading to windows 10 only to find out they will need to do it again in 2 years, i can see some sort of u-turn on EOL for Windows 10 or they will issue a Windows 11 basic that allows current Windows 10 users to upgrade.
@@ColinsCity I’ve heard about windows 11 essentially requiring parts in your computer to be from 2017 or newer. There’s definitely workarounds, but it’s textbook planned obsolescence. Tech companies saying ‘yeah, this is good enough for now’ would be a wonderful thing, but is unfortunately out of reach at the moment.
I replaced my 2019 MBP last year for the M3 Max. I still use my old machine though for traveling, or taking it around the house where it could get damaged. Probably the most annoying thing about that MBP was how quick the fans boot up. I can't even browse the web anymore without it kicking on.
As a developer, I upgraded to M3 Max from my 2019 intel i9 8-core 64GB RAM because Apple Vision Pro stimulator no longer supports intel chip, other than that, running code is still fine on 2019 model, just that the fan becomes noisy when I started to render mobile apps using emulators, so coding wise, purchasing M series would be a better choice for developers like me
I bought mine second hand at the beginning of 2022. It is a fast machine and when combined with eGPU it does not run hot at all. I have it running eGPU with 6900 XT and is a monster.
Hey, I just stumbled over your comment. I have a maxed out 2019 16" (i9, 5500M 8 GB, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD). I want to get deeper into 3D and animation (gaming would be nice too), so the graphics card already feels a bit outdated. Everything else feels fine tho, so it would probably cheaper than buying a new computer. Did you just buy one of those eGPU boxes and choose the card you like? Are there any limitations?
Very informative video, good job! When the 1st M1 MacBook was dropped, it was immediately obvious to many that we're in the PowerPC Intel situation and should sell any intel machines while we can. :) Those who still own one of these do it for a reason I think, like the option of running a linux distro or dual booting windows. I believe some might find this helpful: I am actively using 3.5 macs atm. (yes 3.5 :) ) - 2019 iMac 36gb of ram, 3ghz 6core i5 - Hackintosh build running Ventura 48gb of ram, 2.8ghz 6 core 10th gen coffee lake - 2021 MacBook Air M1 8gb - 2023 MacBook Air M2 24gb Findings: - The intel machines are rarely used. I can't help it, they are both on my desk, I can't stand the idea of not using them anymore, but I don't bother turning them on unless I specifically need a large screen. Despite the fact that I spent significant time and money upgrading them, they feel laggy compared to the M-s. - Almost no perceived difference between the M1 and M2 (with 3 times more memory). I am a software engineer often running multiple simulators, a host of docker containers and multiple ide-s, yet the M1 feels just as capable as the M2. The M2 is company property and using them side-by-side confirms the rightness not having paid this much for my personal machine. TLDR: If you own an intel machine, it's time to make the difficult decision and sell it while you can. If you are on the market for an M1, M2, M3, you're safe going for a middle spec model as it is still perfectly usable and will outperform your top spec intel machine. The Hackintosh era is racing towards the end
Thanks for watching! My latest video touches on a few of your points, which are very informative, by the way. Good to get some insight into who uses which machines for what, and see how you find them.
I still remember Steve Jobs giving his speech at the January 2006 Keynote and how Apple was SWITCHING to Intel for the very reason they abandoned Intel in 2020. Mr. Jobs said Intel was WAY more efficient per watt (than the Power PC).... something like 4.5 to 5.5x. I've never used Apple Silicon so I can only imagine what those CPUs are like.
I'm simply amazed how apple managed to pull off such a stunt with keeping peoples business with a non upgradable unit... utterly amazed. Straight up gangsters is an understatement. Money makes the world go round doesn't it fellas?
I have the 2019 16" MBP with i7 and 16GB RAM. It tends to overheat frequently, and the fans run at full speed. This happens especially when I'm working on Lightroom or Photoshop. I mainly do image editing and work on one image at a time. I think I'm going to replace it with a base model MBA M3...
I had the full specs 2019. It’s still in brand new condition. I use it just for work and making music. Didn’t even realise it can do some games lol why does everyone think there bad? I paid around $4,500 Australian back then. Still can’t believe it has a i9 in it.
I've got this same model, and I like it. But for most people? Eh, probably not the best decision. I agree that the CPU is definitely it's most limiting feature. No matter how much I like it, there's no getting around how hot this thing gets.
I'm not a computer expert. I just wonder, although the processors age, the performance is throttled due to the fans not being at their most powerful, meaning it would have to be cleaned. My machine is almost 5 years old now and do you think I can recover much of the performance by a deep internal cleaning and new thermal paste? I would assume that this would allow to cool the Macbook properly again and perhaps return me a smoother experience again?
@@shawndavids4555 generally these machines are built to last 5-10 years without a re paste. As far as dust buildup goes, it’s unlikely, but if you’re working in a particularly dust prone area it definitely is worth cleaning them sometimes. If you think your laptop’s performing significantly worse than most of the same model normally would, give it a try!
For average user that just uses browsers better to go with basic 2015 model as said, but if you need top end machine for performance and intense computational/graphics work, then a full spec 2019 i9 model is a great solution if you go for 64GB RAM and 5600m (8GB) graphics card model. Plus you can run Windows without paying Parallels or having the drawbacks of virtual machines in general
My MacBook has been crashing whenever i connect it to a wide screen monitor. AMD GPU overheats like no tomorrow…. Had to replace it with Apple Silicon unfortunately….
I've seen a lot of reviews claiming the M1 MacBook Pros even at base configurations are faster than the 32gb 2019 MBPs. I find it a bit hard to believe an 8GB RAM Mac could match one with 32GB Ram from only a year before, but, in need of an upgrade from my broken 2018 13" MBP, I'm really having trouble justifying the 2019 version beyond price when it comes to professional photo and video editing just because of the throttling on the intel's and efficiency of the M1's. When a refurbished M1 is the same or only 200 euros more than this, makes it difficult to go with an intel Mac anymore.
It’s an odd situation considering there’s only a year’s difference, yep. I can honestly say I’d choose the 8gb M1 over any of the 16” 2019s any day, though. The M1 13” Pro has slightly better battery life and reliability, but either way you’re not gonna be losing out, and it’ll be a serious upgrade.
That claim makes no sense. It doesn't work like that. Memory is memory. Most applications use electron js now which is a framework designed to allow you to run JavaScript on your machine via bundling a chromium engine with every build. This means that a lot of applications use a lot of memory by default. So 8gb of ram is barley enough to run a couple of chrome tabs slack/teams and some text editor lol.
If they're claiming that the ssds they use are super fast then that might make sense. As file swaps are not time consuming at that point and performance would be adequate. But again humbly I doubt their swapping that fast.
@@abeplus7352 8gb m1 that I have can run 99 tracks in logic x pro with zero hickups. The swap is almost on par with ram speeds and you wont even notice it. Intel models with 8gb ram can't even run half of the tracks
My wife's daily driver is the M1, and from subjective day-to-day experience, it is not faster, not even close. You also can only drive one external monitor without a crutch like DisplayLink, which is slow.
The 2019 16" MacBook Pro was the last new Intel Model. There were updates to the Intel MacBook Air, MacBook Pro 13" and MacBook Pro 16" in 2020. Indeed, I have a 2020 MacBook Air with the newer keyboard, 16GB of memory and an eight thread i7 CPU: the fastest Intel MacBook Air every made. A very nice laptop.
I suppose sensationalising the 2019 16” works well as a thumbnail ;) Definitely sounds right about the Air, and that’s an interesting model to have! On the other hand I think the 2020 16”s were on paper the exact same as the 2019, so they may be counted as the joint last Intel model I suppose…
This model has the new keyboard - it is late 2019, it came out in december 2019, so it is almost 2020 model. There were MacBook Pro 13" with 10gen intel, but this is the most powerful Intel MacBook Pro, 13" Pros were old models with old displays, old speakers, old chassis. This was brand new MacBook Pro - first time with studio microphones, the first MacBook Pro with magic keyboard since 2015 and the first one with more color accurate display.

I sometimes take my MacBook to Starbucks and it's quite a bit sleeker than the thicc Silicon Macs and the Touch Bar looks pretty slick.

I have a 2019 Air and just got notice that Sequoia isn't going to be supported (officially) and Im bummed. I like these Intel Macs for Windows capabilities which broadens my app use as Im not to privy to apple variants of editing apps. I feel like Apple silicon, while amazing and fast, is just more of a shuttering to Apple controlling all fronts in a closed system which is why I don't have an iPhone.
I found this same MacBook for sale for $600…..battery cycle 12….has been barely used….and still has Apple Care Plus on it through January 12, 2025….is it a good deal?
The last Intel Macbook Made by Apple is the Early 2020 Macbook Pro 13". I have one. It has better single core performance than this one because it uses a newer generation CPU.
Didn’t know about the better single core performance! Interesting fact. Yeah the last one released was the Air. It was joint last made with the 16” Pro I believe.
The biggest problem with the Touch Bar is that Apple did nothing to develop it further. I have a feeling there was an internal struggle within the various teams, with some loving it, and some hating it. At first the ones who are for it won out, then the ones who were against it eventually prevailed. In my experience qs an IT professional, the Touch Bar has a really high failure rate in the 2016 through 2018 models. I've never had a 2019 Touch Bar fail, but that may be due to not as many people buying them (being a higher-end model). The problem with the Touch Bar failing, you essentially can't boot the whole computer into an OS. That being said, I think it was really good idea that would've been really nice had they developed it further. The 16" 2019 is my main laptop as well.
You’re probably right about most of what you said there… Problem with having such a long row of ‘keys’ is that if one part of it breaks you’re stuck replacing the whole thing. Either way, didn’t mind it being a part of that era. Not sad to see it go necessarily!
im watching on my MBo 2019 i9 , very very hot prosessor , open Parallel always 70C, I don't dare to use this laptop for heavy work, such as video editing and others, in the end it's only for me to type, my work flow happens to be using Filmora, the Mac is not that good for my work model, I like using Final Cut Pro but it's not very comfortable , initially I wanted to sell this Mac and replace it with the M1 series, but in the end I decided to keep it as a keepsake, and I would just buy a Windows laptop
i bought one in november last year, 2.4 GHz i9 32GB memory and 5500m 8GB 2tb of storage. coming from M2 13" MBP the only thing worse is the battery life, and i guess the color, since i liked silver better
I have one, and it gives me all sorts of problems. I can be typing, and my cursor jumps to random places in the sentence, or paragraph. So annoying!!! It is slow, I have digital internet that is not slow....and it has gotten so hot before I could not keep my hand on it, and I have had to flip it upside down, while it was on a tabletop. Those are just some of the major things, but has many more. I Paid a ridiculous high amount for this thing too. Too heavy, as well.
I bought one recently. I feel it's a bit laggy. Not sure if it's because I'm used to my desktop, or ir it's because of the age (~5 years). Right now Im trying to reinstall the OS to check if it makes it more fluid. Do you know which OS version is better for this model?

Customizing the Air with additional RAM and SSD to 24GB RAM and 512GB SSD brings the price of the Air close to that of the M3 Pro base model with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD. Honestly these kinds of videos make me happy to have gotten a framework laptop 16. Every time I hear stories about laptops and computers that are barely breaking 4-5 years in age already being considered dinosaurs with people struggling to find a reason for them to exist, I remember that in 4 years I will be able to just slap in a new screen and battery and essentially have a new device with all the features I want. It is absolutely saddening that many very competent pieces of technology will just never last that long because they were intentionally gimped from the get-go to not be repairable or upgradeable into the future. Even with my previous laptop, when it started dying and certain parts started breaking, part of me just couldn't help but feel sad that there was no hope for it. That unlike the think pads and old cellphones with swappable batteries of the past, it could not be restored in a reasonable way for someone else to use.

But I looked into it, it's still in warranty as it was purchased by an enterprise customer in September 2021 (Bet he felt really dumb a month after when the m1 pros came out)
At least for the last couple of days that I've owned it, it runs super cool at about 35 degrees while doing normal computer stuff like watching videos or web browsing.

I believe some might find this helpful:
I am actively using 3.5 macs atm. (yes 3.5 :) )
- 2019 iMac 36gb of ram, 3ghz 6core i5
- Hackintosh build running Ventura 48gb of ram, 2.8ghz 6 core 10th gen coffee lake
- 2021 MacBook Air M1 8gb
- 2023 MacBook Air M2 24gb
Findings:
- The intel machines are rarely used.
TLDR:
If you own an intel machine, it's time to make the difficult decision and sell it while you can.
Of course they’re laggy if you’re using mismatched memory to get odd DDR4 RAM totals like 36 gb and 48 gb.
A good perspective to have on it.
Trust me, they are another big step!
I'm simply amazed how apple managed to pull off such a stunt with keeping peoples business with a non upgradable unit... utterly amazed. Straight up gangsters is an understatement. Money makes the world go round doesn't it fellas?
Great video! Just what I needed. I have a MacBook Pro 2012 that I need to replace!!! I’m sure anything newer would be a huge improvement!😅
Completely agree. It was a pain when I used to use it for editing - having to speak over the fan noise lol.
i7 should handle many tasks for many years to come
Still growing stronger by the day!! Will trade it in 5 years from now
I'm not a computer expert.
@@montaguebarnabasltd Thank you very much! :)
I suppose sensationalising the 2019 16” works well as a thumbnail ;)
Definitely sounds right about the Air, and that’s an interesting model to have!
This was brand new MacBook Pro - first time with studio microphones, the first MacBook Pro with magic keyboard since 2015 and the first one with more color accurate display.
oh shit. i just bought one. better one than none im thinking, hoping to upgrade in at least 3 to 4 years
i was planning to buy one as well, is it working fine ? Have you encountered lags or fan noises or heating issues while juste browsing between multiple tabs and watching 4k videos ?
I just bought one 2 days ago for just youtube browsing and i have yet to hear the fans come on.

@@Augustineinpui I’m sorry to say I agree, the M1 air is just by far the better option right now.
You’re probably right about most of what you said there…
Problem with having such a long row of ‘keys’ is that if one part of it breaks you’re stuck replacing the whole thing.
Either way, didn’t mind it being a part of that era. Not sad to see it go necessarily!
