I just did and it’s amazing. Got it for 840$ and I’m really happy with got. I thought about 13” m1, but you can’t bootcamp windows on them and it’s a little to small and 14” and 16” m1 pros were too expensive for me so I went with this one and it’s been amazing so far.

I have 4K monitor plugged and MacBook open and it's also silent and doesn't overheat when browsing web, watching 4K videos, few tabs in Safari, discord, mail all open. It's running hot under heavy load and it's quite loud, but I only do heavy load on desktop, so it doesn't bother me. With some tweaks like Turbo Boost Switcher you can get low temperatures and good battery life. Mine has 230 cycles and with these tweaks I get around 7-9 hours on battery. Unfortunately it overheats a bit on Windows when gaming. I read that it's because of VRM section overheats which leads to lowering wattage of GPU from 50w to around 30w. It's not that bad, you just need to adjust the game settings to run good on 30w. I managed to play GTA V for a few hours in 1440p on high settings in 60 fps. It's quite loud, but temperatures are around 80-85*C. I'm happy for the price I paid. It's still powerful machine with some flaws, but you can work around them.
dude. it's possible to make the 16 inch the same size by reducing the bezels......Apple could make a 13" Ipad pro that is smaller than their 12.9" ipad pro by reducing the bezels even further and increasing the screen size slightly if they wanted. lol

I’m doing software for school so it’s overkill for that, however I’ve noticed it has some overheating issues when plugged in to a monitor. I tried to use two monitors connected to it (apples website claims it can run 4 HD display at once btw) and it overheated and shut off. No damage to it but as a laptop alone it’s incredible, connected to a monitor it’s pretty bad.

Mc season That is just completely unsubstantiated. Apple profit per purchase has been on an upward trend, and their privacy campaign has been front and center in this. Apple has invested billions into physical and digital security measures on local, personal devices and Apple’s servers. If Apple *really* wanted to make their privacy weaker they would’ve just listened to the fbi when they were asked to unlock an iPhone. The main issue is that if Apple wanted to sell user info, they *cant* because everything is user encrypted, and Apple doesn’t keep a record of the keys. Speaking logically here, you are gonna need a ton of proof to show that Apple doesn’t have the best security and privacy in the industry. Edward Snowden uses iOS, and he knows quite a bit about government spying.

The thing is that the overpriced bit is, in my opinion atleast, blown up just because everybody says it is and while the products are generally overpriced (stares at 1000 $ "pro" stand) they aren't that much more expensive than other similar spec laptops and i just like to think that the extra cost covers for MacOS. Atleast for some of the more recent products like the iMac 5k & this laptop or even the airpods pro.
Yeah you guys have to factor in that you get free MacOS updates, Apple actually doesn’t put ads on the OS or sell your data (like Microsoft does) and that most people who are buying these laptops are buying them in need of a Apple mobile workstation. Like someone with a 2018 15’ MacBook Pro isn’t usually going to buy this even with the improvements. It’d just be a waste of money unless they returned it to Apple for credit towards a new one.

Oh yes definitely switch to the least capable, worst for the price operating system in the industry. Definitely don’t buy an iPad which gets years of software updates and has a massively better experience.
I really wish computer companies would realize that making computers as thin and light as possible needs to end if you're sacrificing battery life, performance, or heat.
Apple sells cables, and you can even buy a compatible phone if you want to… Seriously, with ~7€ (1/3 of what Apple charges, no pun intended) third-party Lightning cables available online and even at my local hardware store, they're no longer getting my business in that regard anyway.

Don't get me wrong dude, MagSafe was great, but as Marques said it's really convenient to be able to charge all your devices with one charger/cable. Plus you can also connect external monitors and all sorts of devices through that one cable.

As for me, I just purchased a 2019 MBP 16”. It has 32gb of RAM and 512-SSD. It is a core i7, not the i9. It arrives next week and it cost me $950. I could have easily got the m1/m2 for cheaper. Hence it’s also my first MacBook I ever owned. I wanted the starlight M2 soooo bad. Then I was looking at the 2015 MBP, but settled for the 2019. The reason why I didn’t buy it. Was, because I’m not going to settle for a 13 inch screen. My older windows laptop which is a “Dell” is 15.4-16 inches. I’m not going to settle for a top of the line laptop. Just, because it’s the newest product. For me, I bought it, because it’s an affordable 16 inch laptop, inexpensive and it still runs smoothly. Just, because there is a better version out there. Does not mean that the older generation laptops are horrible (except for the 2017 macbook) the 2012 MacBook is running strong still, the 2015 is still a really nice option too.

@@rockpaperscissors2287 I still have mine after upgrading to the M3 Max. The 2019 is showing it's age against the M series of chips in terms of speed and efficiency. The ports on mine are going bad, the fans are going bad, and the battery refuses to charge when in use. You could probably get a good deal on a refurbished one, but (with Apple trying to phase out the Intel Macs) I wouldn't recommend getting one. I think this would still be a good computer today had Apple stayed with Intel.
The MacBook chargers are USB Power Delivery, which means they will only crank up the wattage if the device they are connected to specifically requests it. Using a 96W PD charger to charge an iPhone at 18W is perfectly safe 👍
I've been playing around with this latest 16 inch model as soon as it hits the store, and i've found myself a big fan of the slimmer bezel and probably the new keyboard. I look forward to seeing these 2 key elements added to the next 13 inch model or probably the 14 inch, just need more portability for a laptop.
Austin Simpson Films I dont tkink that any pro user still wants a bunch of old usbs in their macbook. A dongle (that everyone already has) with 3 usb a + hdmi + etherner + power takes 1 tb3 and you still have 3 left for external gpus, screens, fast ssds.
Hey Marques, would really like to know your views about the external monitor and MacBook Pro 16 inch connection leading to fan noise and heating which wasn't the case with the older MacBooks. There has been threads going on regarding this on various communities since the past months but there hasn't been any reply. Your take on this?
It's a real issue. I regrettably own a 16 inch MacBook Pro and it's impossible to use with an external monitor (along with your internal display). Apple is dead silent about it. I doubt RUclipsrs and tech 'journalists' will actually discuss this issue as it could mean retaliation from Apple. It's basically the dGPU pulling about 18-20W when connected to an external monitor, even when you've no apps running. This causes overheating, and power/thermal throttling real quick. What a waste..
Gonzalo Mendoza exactly what she said. Upgraded to 8GB of ram, sold the 4GB it came with for as much as I paid for the 8. SSDs are super cheap these days. It’ll completely change your computer. It has more than enough processing power for years to come

You were dead wrong here. This has been my worst mac ever. The fans are always running. The heat is unbearable. Sometimes is slow for no reason. I came back to this video because I bought this mac because of this review. I totally regret it. The second market is full of this model. People are getting rid of it by the thousands. The second hand price for 1Tb is around €1000 after just 2 years.

I just bought a base model with 512gb SSD for 500 with a small dent on one corner and some light scratches on the top lid of the screen

The thing is that the overpriced bit is, in my opinion atleast, blown up just because everybody says it is and while the products are generally overpriced (stares at 1000 $ "pro" stand) they aren't that much more expensive than other similar spec laptops and i just like to think that the extra cost covers for MacOS. Atleast for some of the more recent products like the iMac 5k & this laptop or even the airpods pro.
Yeah you guys have to factor in that you get free MacOS updates, Apple actually doesn’t put ads on the OS or sell your data (like Microsoft does) and that most people who are buying these laptops are buying them in need of a Apple mobile workstation.
Like someone with a 2018 15’ MacBook Pro isn’t usually going to buy this even with the improvements. It’d just be a waste of money unless they returned it to Apple for credit towards a new one.

Don't get me wrong dude, MagSafe was great, but as Marques said it's really convenient to be able to charge all your devices with one charger/cable.
Plus you can also connect external monitors and all sorts of devices through that one cable.

@@Mathcartney But that's an extra "bit" you need to carry with you. Plus it's my understanding that those aftermarket magsafe clones aren't the most reliable over time and can even make short-circuiting the port more likely due to the exposed pins

Like what percentage is able to afford this laptop and use it to edit RED raw footage. It’s getting ridiculous. Stop with the weird flexes about using airplane WiFi. Why would that matter in terms of battery life? Or “That’s why I travel with an iMac Pro when I shoot RED” Like, who are you even talking to?! We came here to see a review on the new MacBook. I’m calling it now, we are currently in the first era where tech channels are going way over the top because what feels like a natural progression for them will be the thing that’s going to alienate them from their followers. We are gonna look back at this and wonder why the hell we didn’t notice how ridiculous it is to be watching a rich guy tell us about shit we can’t even afford.

As for me, I just purchased a 2019 MBP 16”. It has 32gb of RAM and 512-SSD. It is a core i7, not the i9. It arrives next week and it cost me $950. I could have easily got the m1/m2 for cheaper. Hence it’s also my first MacBook I ever owned. I wanted the starlight M2 soooo bad. Then I was looking at the 2015 MBP, but settled for the 2019.
The reason why I didn’t buy it. Was, because I’m not going to settle for a 13 inch screen. My older windows laptop which is a “Dell” is 15.4-16 inches. I’m not going to settle for a top of the line laptop. Just, because it’s the newest product.
For me, I bought it, because it’s an affordable 16 inch laptop, inexpensive and it still runs smoothly. Just, because there is a better version out there. Does not mean that the older generation laptops are horrible (except for the 2017 macbook) the 2012 MacBook is running strong still, the 2015 is still a really nice option too.
How do you feel about it now? I’m only asking because I’m considering the choice you made:)

@@rockpaperscissors2287 I still have mine after upgrading to the M3 Max. The 2019 is showing it's age against the M series of chips in terms of speed and efficiency. The ports on mine are going bad, the fans are going bad, and the battery refuses to charge when in use. You could probably get a good deal on a refurbished one, but (with Apple trying to phase out the Intel Macs) I wouldn't recommend getting one. I think this would still be a good computer today had Apple stayed with Intel.

The MacBook chargers are USB Power Delivery, which means they will only crank up the wattage if the device they are connected to specifically requests it.
Using a 96W PD charger to charge an iPhone at 18W is perfectly safe 👍

I look forward to seeing these 2 key elements added to the next 13 inch model or probably the 14 inch, just need more portability for a laptop.

Hey Marques, would really like to know your views about the external monitor and MacBook Pro 16 inch connection leading to fan noise and heating which wasn't the case with the older MacBooks. There has been threads going on regarding this on various communities since the past months but there hasn't been any reply. Your take on this?
It's a real issue. I regrettably own a 16 inch MacBook Pro and it's impossible to use with an external monitor (along with your internal display). Apple is dead silent about it. I doubt RUclipsrs and tech 'journalists' will actually discuss this issue as it could mean retaliation from Apple. It's basically the dGPU pulling about 18-20W when connected to an external monitor, even when you've no apps running. This causes overheating, and power/thermal throttling real quick. What a waste..

SSDs are super cheap these days. It’ll completely change your computer. It has more than enough processing power for years to come

You were dead wrong here. This has been my worst mac ever. The fans are always running. The heat is unbearable. Sometimes is slow for no reason. I came back to this video because I bought this mac because of this review. I totally regret it. The second market is full of this model. People are getting rid of it by the thousands. The second hand price for 1Tb is around €1000 after just 2 years.
