There will never be another Mac like the M1 MacBook Air.
I'm ready for the swarm of comments saying I'm an Apple sheep for not buying Intel or Windows, but I'm convinced the M1 Air changed everything.

I got a m2 pro mbp, its 14inch. Its a pretty nice machine, though intelmacs have a good thing going on for them, you can boot to windows and with an egpu actually game on it comfortably. So maybe if i get a 3d printer and a bit more money, i buy myself one so i can upgrade the cooling and use it for gaming aswell.

I'm currently using an M1 Mac Mini, so basically the same thing but with proper active cooling. And man, despite it's age, it's still pretty good. I am considering upgrading to a Mx Pro/Max macbook at some point, maybe the max for gpu performance + longevity. If it weren't for the bigass apple logo on the top I sometimes forget it is the thing doing all the computing and not my actual x86 computer, aside from gpu heavy tasks where my PC is just going to be better 100% of the time. Having access to all of apple's software while still being able to happily use android(I just think android is functionally superior in every way to ios) is great, especially games like Sonic Dream Team that don't seem like they're gonna be ported to other platforms. MacOS is nice, but I feel like there could be some improvements made especially for Finder. MacOS sucks if you try to use it as Windows but is great if you use it more like Linux. I've been convinced ARM is the future of CPUs for a while, but actually using apple silicon macs really helped cement that feeling

I purchased my base m1 macbook air in January 2022 and i have not used it much until recently when i started learning a course on udemy. I have been mainly using my laptop for learning and youtube and some browsing. My battery health is 96 percent still and am getting over 14 hours of SOT from 100-10 percent every single time. Performance is super good and laptop stays cool almost all the time what i do on it. Display is great with good saturation and colors also the text is crispy clear and as for the speakers they are pretty good for casual use also keyboard and trackpad are best of their kind. If this is not a value for money package i dont know what is. For anyone wondering to get this laptop so dont listen to others saying it is almost 4 years old. Once you get your hands on it, you will get to know it is miles better than any windows laptop today in the departments i mentioned above in the price bracket. OS is a different conversation so i dont want to get into that but if you are just looking for a good laptop that will last you 5 or more years that is just great all around then this is a blind buy. Tbh this m1 macbook is similar to that ipad pro 2018. Even though new generations came year after year iterating that version, to this day that ipad pro is still super relevant and great experience to use. Same applies to this m1 macbook as well. Sometimes apple puts out tech that does not get outdated for like 7-9 years down the road. Above 2 products come into that brackert. Makes no sense from their business pov but its a win for the consumer. Btw try to get it under 650 bucks(USA) or 60k(India) cause thats when you will realise how far better and ahead of competition this laptop is for that money.

I've had my M1 MBP since release in 2020. It's hard to put into words, but it made portable my entire life. Hobbies like video editing, music, photography and my IT work suddenly all became available on something portable with a battery life that I could use and take anywhere. I use it every day, and because it is so good I have never missed my custom-built desktop PC. I actually did buy a gaming laptop to complement it, and sure it's way better for games BUT I actually forgot about the fan noise and heat! I forgot fan noise/heat were problems with other laptops lol. I also bought an M1 iPad Pro expecting great things. Yeah... Most expensive paperweight I own - Most of the time I check it is charged and then charge it or use it as a second display for my mac lol.

When this came out, Intel rushed out some awful commercials featuring that “I’m a Mac” guy. They demonstrated playing one of the Grid series of games on a Windows laptop, claiming you can only do this on Intel. Guess they should have checked because you can totally run that game on an M1 MBA, which I have. No hoops, just install Steam, install game, run game.

Towards the end of the video you state that M1 is a first generation chip with 10+ years worth of innovation to come. I would argue the A4 was the first generation processor and that Apple had already put in 10 years of development and fine tuning their craft for the release of M1, which is what made it so good for a “first generation” processor. It’s basically a modified A12X designed with higher clock speeds and power draw in mind.

From an IT pov it’s been awesome. You can say what you will about ewaste and the ability to repair/replace components individually and I will hear those. But these things last. I see another 4 years before cpu performance falls. Another 2 before batteries die. Tell me, how long has it been since the main concern is the battery? The m2/m3 air had a significantly more attractive look. But, at an additional cost of 100/200 dollars. Sub 1000 is just unbeatable for a pro performance and a GEN FREACKING 1 M1 air. Now we will see windows arm shine. I’m skeptical what prism will offer as opposed to Rosetta 2. And the fact I haven’t seen a sub 1000$ snapdragon SOC from any of the lead providers (MS, Lenovo, Dell) leaves me worried that windows will struggle to keep up in the workplace. We need a premium option at the pivotal price point. The shell of the machine matters to most. looks, durability, and performance matter equally. So yeah, I don’t expect there to be another laptop like the M1 air. Great take of yours

you may have, and I just totally missed it, but I think you really should've touched on battery life, I am currently using an i7 16 inch 2019 MacBook Pro, about 100 battery cycles, I get on a good day maybe 8-9 hours of pages/schoolwork, if im editing videos, music, or anything more intensive, it drops to probably at best about 4-5 hours. my moms MacBook Air m1 is rated for 18 hours, it has about 350 battery cycles on it, and will constantly get 14-16 hours doing the mundane stuff like pages and web browsing/video streaming. if I edit videos, music, or just do more intense stuff on that, its slower, but the battery life is about 8-10 hours depending on how intense it is. I feel like the best part of the M1 is simply how middle of the road everything is, the CPU is just fine, the GPU is just fine, the screen is just fine, the speakers are phenomenal, the battery life is superb, and its on par with 13th gen mobile i5 CPU's... but still has better battery life

I love my M1 MacBook Air so much. It’s not just the nicest computer I’ve ever had.. it’s so easy to use and like it. I can’t find a single issue and I complain about everything. If I had ONE complaint, it would be the display doesn’t get quite dim enough for my liking but that’s really nitpicky. It’s a lovely machine. One handed opening, the credible display and speakers.. keyboard that makes you want to type.. WiFi and Bluetooth so good you’ll pick up WiFi signals a block away. It’s really insane how long the battery lasts too.. I’ve had mine for about three years and can still pull of 15 hours of streaming on auto-brightness. Solid machine. I wish I had an extra sealed in box lol.

The M1 was a hint that Apple was going strong not only in features and performance, but also in price. It was all a lie, and soon after they started to charge exorbitant prices for their computers and upgrades, pricing themselves out of the market and becoming an irrelevant luxury brand (again).

Its sad that they dont have that much of a punch anymore, since this laptop is perfect in every single way, its big, the screen feels empty and gives one alot of room for pictures or videos, aswell as movies, i love it. It was more of a spontaneous buy, as the price on Amazon dropped to as low as $800 last November. Besides, I wanted something that was lighter, which the Air certainly is and I always liked the wedge design; a form factor that Apple has abandoned on the latest Air. I knew Apple wasn't going to keep it around for much longer. In my opinion, the final versions of old laptops are generally the best. I can say this as I still have a functioning fully-spec'd out 13-inch Unibody MacBook Pro, as a third computer and it's still working just fine, nearly eight years after I bought it. Just like the M1 Air, I got the Unibody in 2016, when it was being phased out. That deal was even better at just $576.

For me it seems to be nearly impossible to find a 8GB ram 11 inch Macbook Air 2015. And if I find one, it's like 400 euros

The M1 MacBook Air will definitely be a fondly remembered classic, right up there with the 2015 Retina, 2012 Univody and the G4s.

I used a company-supplied M1 2020 MBA for work and it throttled all the time due to the lack of a fan, limiting its performance. Yes, the battery life and performance was far superior to the Intels, and yes the M chips run far cooler, but Apple choosing to omit any active cooling really hurts this machine under sustained load.

Maybe your company should have supplied a MacBook Pro instead. It has active cooling. The Air was not designed for heavy sustained loads.

@@FOBob-sr1fd actually they did. An M2 Pro. ‘The air was not designed for sustained loads’ That’s the stupidest thing I’ve heard. My Intel MacBook Air has a fan. So was it designed for sustained loads, but the vaunted M1 successor was not?

@@kirishima638 To be fair, they did say "heavy," which would put those loads on the MacBook Pro.
