Still rocking my 2019 MBP 16 and typing on it now. It feels like a cadillac, still powerful and robust for everything I need. Amazing sound and studio quality mics; great screen for color work; and there's nothing I throw at it that it doesn't run (I even play the Batman Arkhan games, Shadow of Mordor, Tomb Raider and they all look amazing), including tons of open tabs and apps running at the same time. I have been looking for signs that I need to upgrade for years now and I am yet to find a reason to. I am also a lover of the touch bar (context-aware emojis anyone??) and I am almost sure this Macbook will last long enough until Apple goes full circle and brings the touchbar back (so brave)
If it didn't heat up like crazy with jet engine fan sounds and a lower battery life, then it'd be one of the best older laptops for sure! Everything else, I still really love this laptop and for it's price value.
@@DrProductivity It depends on the environ. I was working in this little temp office w/ 4 people, two had these 2019 16"s, and the others had an M1 pro/max. I had one of these and switched to a M2 Max 16-inch. The experience is much better over-all. The fans would frequently be on full blast with the machine, the battery life was atrocious, you needed to have dedicated graphics enabled at all times for a smooth UI experience, and the single layer IPS screen was no competition for the mini-LED screens on the newer models. I did find the speakers to sound better than my 16-inch M2 Max though.

Loving the content! Just a note that the notch makes no difference at all in full screen as the entire bar at the top is fulled in with a black boarder on top of whatever content you're watching. - watching this on a 16" M1 Pro.
Yea that part of the video really confused me. “It gets in the way when watching full screen content” I was like, no it doesn’t, it doesn’t show during full screen
One of these is getting me through my civil engineering PhD program! I bought it early on in my undergrad when it was one year used, and I'll be devastated the day I have to move on from it. The i9 doesn't do much for battery life, but it lets me run simulations, leave everything on and running, and hasn't ever shown signs of slowing down
So happy I got mine's around March of this year! 32GB RAM & 1TB SSD for around $580. Have had no issues with it - love the TouchBar, screen is nice and big (no notch) and fully supported for another year of MacOS. I'm getting an Apple Silicon MacBook Air next year, as I do want a modern M-series mac but it won't be replacing this Pro - it'll still be in use as long as it gets security updates.
I've had this exact one in your video (i9, 5500) with the Touch Bar for several years, it's done me right. I actually love the touch bar! The way it adapted to different apps was/is great. No joke I bought my base spec 16 1 day before this vid. My first macbook as well 😂
4:43 I actually disagree with this point, when I owned my 2016 MacBook Pro 15-inch I actually found it to be slower to drag the slider to adjust the volume and brightness rather than quickly press a physical key to do the same thing. The tactile feel of a real button is still better even if the slider may seem simpler, you still have to look down at the slider to make sure you're hitting it, whereas the physical keys on a real function row can be felt out blindly so you don't need to look down at the keys to make sure you're hitting them correctly. When I owned my TouchBar MacBook Pro I had the functions reversed in macOS so that it emulated the function row by default (rather than holding down Fn to get it) since I never found any of the additional functions that useful, and having moved onto the 14" MacBook Pro with no TouchBar it's not something I miss.
@@JackStavris I suppose it’s more a matter of opinion. I’m not too fussed about the Touch Bar, but did prefer it slightly to the keys, and stand by my point, really. Thanks for the comment, anyway, and your opinion is certainly valid.
Great video on this laptop! One of the other benefits is eGPU support. Not only would it help with your gaming benchmarks, but if you wanted to train an LLM locally it is possible using a Radeon Vii or other supported GPU with the 64GB ram configuration of this laptop.
I feel bad for people who bought one. Honestly one of the most bafflingly terrible Macs especially in terms of value if you got a higher-spec model. It does look amazing though, and the Touch Bar is super cool if you're just playing around with it. But the return to form with the M1 Pro was just so necessary, and it's what convinced me to pick one up for college.

The caps should have 0 ohms and should not overheat when voltage is injected to them. Preventive replacement is the maximum what I suppose I am able to do. Maybe even applying some protection varnish on the contacts to prevent the oxidation.
if you think about it the iPhone 16 Pro Benches Above the M1 in single core and Closes in on the Multicore score of it. So essentially the A18 Pro chip is more powerful than the i9 2019 intel
I have it and find myself in a tough spot right now. The new 16'' is a lot bulkier and most importantly feels this way too. 2019 MBP feels much thinner. So if I want to upgrade now, I have to either got the 14'', which leaves me with a lot less screen space or Air 15, which is, well, Air.
I have a maxed out version of this MBP 16". Bought it to be able to also run Windows (and maybe I did not think that Apple Silicon would be so good). I think it is a really good computer and I still use it (prefer it over a Macbook Air M1). Definitivly much nicer than the Dell Latitude I got from work.
I really like mine, the heat and fan noise are really starting to get grading though. The 'Intel' slowness is also starting to show more and more lately
I was soo happy when I traded my 16” MBP i9 for a 14” M1 model. Night and day difference. Still have the M1 14” and use it everyday. Best computer I’ve ever owned by far. I don’t have fond memories of the lap burning heat and screaming fans of the Intel.
your point of windows laptops sucking in sound quality is pretty much spot on but you should check out some compressions between the newer MacBook airs/ pros and the ROG 2024 zephyrs g14. Its honestly pretty close and probably one of the best sounding laptops in general.
Any chance we can see a video about the much forgotten 2020 13 inch MacBook Pro, specifically the one with 4 thunderbolt ports? It adopted some of the improvements of the superior 16 inch mbp 2019 but came at a bad time and was very awkwardly positioned in the lineup... (definitely not asking because I bought one back then and want to feel better about myself)
I am a 2020 13inch 4tb (not the storage) user since it released. It was such a gem with 10nm 4 core cpu performs nearly same as i9 16, less hot, less noise, 8-10h battery life, gt 1030 equivalent iris gpu. Wish that cpu comes to 16 inches with 5500. If they were offered I wasnt buy 13 inch however because of my hackintosh desktop never worried about much.
I cross-shopped this to replace my mac pro, and ended up going with an M1 max/64gb/16". The thermals were just too poor for me. I saw these used head to head against the M1 max and M1 Pros in our video department, and for someone who's often working outside, sans air conditioning (it's currently 85º where I am, we don't have A/C in the hangar) I decided to go with the cooler-running M1 despite the 2.3X price tag. I still kind of want one of these though, at $760 for a beat up one I can't help but feel it's going to be a pretty stalwart little unit for years to come, as long as you don't want too much media performance. Good parents' laptop, very refined compared to a crappy Costco Asus at the same pricepoint. The notch thing doesn't bug me at all, it's just a few free rows of pixels. Glass half-full thinking, I guess
I still keep using this mbp (i9) as my main computer, I know that in some case processing power arr low that new m chip(I have another 14” m1 pro mbp), I like the the 16” intel mac speaker sound more than m1 14”😅. for normal use it is still an great machine
I actually had one of these for work, and to be quite honest, I prefer this machine over the new m3 16 inch pro. I mean, I don't miss the poor thermals and battery life, but I actually miss how thin the machine was and I think the build quality on it is actually slightly better than the new M series Pros. My work had optioned a it with a Core i9, and that thing got uncomfortably warm.
Mine's sitting in my bedroom at this very moment; been over a year since I upgraded to Apple Silicon. It was more like a portable nuclear reactor than a computer. Fan constantly firing; CPU constantly hitting 100ºC in my lap. Stopped being all that fast after only a year, the thermal throttling was so bad. Altogether, no thanks. Better than what had come right before, but still the bitter end of a long low point in Apple's product design and engineering. Don't miss it at all.
Context: I'm a Digital Media student who would like to purchase a Macbook Pro as it's the market standard when running any software that I need; i.e. Adobe, 3D rendering, running multiple tabs, etc. Q: Would you recommend this Macbook for my studies or should I go out and spend more on a newer model?
First MacBook I purchased new. I waited 4 extra weeks of shipping to finally get it. It had a lot of faults. I am glad to move to Apple silicon. Resell value of these was probably worst of any recent pro.
100% agreed on gaming i literally returned my M2 Max macbook pro 16" because it got like 10fps on the same games i already play on my 2020 16" i9 32gb ram and the 5600m gpu
i remember to got very angry abt the mouse, prob bcs all things happened at the time, 2nd pc was as horrible experience, and i only have good luck outside/ on friends pc
I paid for this yesterday for 300$ yesterday, after I sold my MacBook Air i5 16gb ram 2020 for 270$. So that’s mean I spend 30$ more to get this. I hope that’s good decision.
I ordered a 13" 2019 Macbook Pro with the base specs from eBay for around $350... Color me surprised when they accidentally sent the 16" model! I'm not much of an Apple user, and I'm mainly using it to get used to macOS, but I do love how premium it feels while still being very compatible with things I'm used to using due to being Intel-based. Once I need a new laptop, I would honestly be tempted to get an M3 MacBook at some point just because of how much I like the quality, if I weren't already set on getting a Framework laptop instead.
What about the 2020 iMac? That had support for Comet Lake and Rocket Lake CPUs and upgradeable RAM and CPUs and up to Rx 5700 XT Graphics and room for a second upgradeable SATA SSD
Considering one just to maintain support for my Windows VM (VMWare) collection should my old 2012 MBP ever die. Can’t use these on Apple Silicon. And for some reason having challenges dragging some of these over to Workstation on my ThinkPad. Seems only an Intel Mac will suffice.
Big fan of the Touch Bar (rocking the m2 13' mbp with one), quite sad it was dropped really. My old intel 16" mbp is still going strong with a family member at least, one of those great mbp's they released.
I have 2019 15 MBP - and this "bad" keyboard its pretty great for me. The heating problem has easy solution, just turn off Turbo Boost by app. You loose about 15% of power but temperature downs from 65 to 39 celsius.
I have a 2020 16” MacBook Pro, essentially the same one. Love it still works great, but sometimes runs slow with the amount of stuff i throw at it. Thinking about getting a newer machine and keeping this for travel and on the go work. I do audio production so a lot is required.
Depending on your perspective, Intel Macs might receive software support for a longer period compared to M1 MacBooks. My 2012 MacBook stopped receiving security updates in 2022, which prevented me from updating a browser I needed for an exam. However, when using BootCamp, my Windows 10 installation still receives support until 2025. I would assume that Intel Macs running Windows 11 would get longer support compared to macOS. Of course, the trade-off would be reduced battery life and increased fan noise.
im still thinking of buying it even though the battery life and such cuz i do find some good use in them, like gaming, finally trying a mac, windows side loading too.
It depends on your use case but I would say if you want a poor to okay first experience with Mac get an Intel model, if you want something to blow your mind get Apple Silicon. You can still run Windows via VMware or Parallels and a surprising amount of games will work, I have a base model Air and it runs almost everything I play quite happily.
If someone had to choose a M1 air 256 with 8gb vs something like a 1tb 32gb i7 16" intel Macbook, I would still say the 2019 intel MacBook ASSUMING it has a newer battery and not a very high battery cycle life. People will defend Apple silicon to the death in some circles even if that M1 Air had a broken screen and was dumped in water and had 500 battery cycle. The Intel is still really good, just don't pay too much like USD less than $700ish.
Like I said, all about the use case. If you can only have one computer and you want to experience Mac plus play newer graphics intensive games, the Intel model makes sense. Personally I have an older gaming desktop for demanding games but 99% of my computing and gaming needs are met by a base model M2 Air. As an actual laptop (light, thin, silent, portable, amazing battery life) Apple Silicon crushes anything else on the market in my opinion.
@@TheLime-wd3yuI think it’s kind of a deal where if you’re not sure what to get, get the Apple silicon. The intels are only better in a few niche scenarios, and if you don’t already know you need an intel for what you do, you don’t fall into one of those scenarios
@@digitalmarketinghumans agreed I saw a 2019 for 400 so that's my go to plan if that font work out I might go for a Mac pro 8gb 2020 touchbar model but I'm planning of buying the 2019 has been my dream laptop for some time tbh

I’ve been seeing SOOO MANY videos lately being uploaded on people showing their sheer love towards this very mac. What is this propaganda now that the M4 is launched 😅😂😂
I had purchased the Intel MBP with the 5600M and died just under a year later. Motherboard failure was the diagnosis. For a computer that almost cost me $4k was stupid and no the warranty didn’t cover the damage
People are fast to forget how much performance this machine had and that is after the CPU performance stagnation on the market since Sandy Bridge - 8 cores, a desktop-like performance of a GPU, more ram and storage options. It went for half the price where I live of a modern M3 Max being in the same price category. Bigger screen, thicker design, more batteries, new (old) keyboard. You had x2.5 performance over a previous model in all aspects (!) M1 Pro/Max didn't have that over it and I'm comparing the i9 version to a Pro more, because price has shifted and Max versions have more ram by default, so that is a different price\weight category. M2 Pro 3 years later was the first machine to become marginally* faster. *Marginally as in you don't have to compare benchmark numbers to notice it is faster. BUT STILL, encode/decode is SLOWER than i9, issues with external 4k screens etc.

(definitely not asking because I bought one back then and want to feel better about myself)
@@gaudam514 I’ll definitely look into making a video about them. I don’t have one to use for footage though, so might be a couple months at least…
It was great for managing presentations and content on video conference calls
I’m here from the future to help the algorithm.
@@cmedeir thank you. Did I ever hit 10k subs?
I actually had one of these for work, and to be quite honest, I prefer this machine over the new m3 16 inch pro. I mean, I don't miss the poor thermals and battery life, but I actually miss how thin the machine was and I think the build quality on it is actually slightly better than the new M series Pros. My work had optioned a it with a Core i9, and that thing got uncomfortably warm.
honestly touchbar was incredible and i could really use one on an m3 or m4 macbook
Thank god for that
still using my 2019 16 inch MBP with i9 and 32GB RAM
Any downside?
@@jaker3079 for me it still runs well
how long do you have it?
Sadly, my 2019 must be dying. It restarts 4 times a day. The hard drive must be going.
I just want them to make a apple silicon 16" with a Touch Bar
You can add used eGPU to this i7 5300M and it will be capable of most of the modern games.
Thank you as I’m not spending 4000£+ on anything when I can get this i9 64gb ram and 1tb for 800£ THANK YOU
I ordered a 13" 2019 Macbook Pro with the base specs from eBay for around $350...
That’s definitely worth a video. I rarely talk about iMacs as I haven’t used many, and don’t have the space for one at home. Hopefully soon!
I broke my m2 pro MacBook Pro screen and my 2019 16 inch MacBook is saving my life for now haha
I think the fact that there will never be another is a good thing. The 2016-2020 MacBook Pros were horrible.
Is the 13inch 2019 MacBook Pro just as good?
16 gb ram and 256gb i7
@@beastvick apologies for late reply, but no, the 13 inches have weaker everything really.
Would this laptop be good for fl studio and is 900/1000 cad reasonable price wise?
It would run that fine, but that price is a bit much probably.
@@montaguebarnabasltd so with Canadian currency what’s a good price like 800?
why did you not clean the screen before taping this video. So many fingerprints on the screen, looked horrible.
@@accesswireless189 cheers mate!
We want touch bar back. At least make it "optional.."
anything i did there basically nonexistent lol
the struggle to even own those were the toughest challenge, yet just as previous pcs, didnt even last a year
I have a 2020 16” MacBook Pro, essentially the same one. Love it still works great, but sometimes runs slow with the amount of stuff i throw at it. Thinking about getting a newer machine and keeping this for travel and on the go work. I do audio production so a lot is required.
Yes I would get one better sound bigger screen no notch Windows integration
Depending on your perspective, Intel Macs might receive software support for a longer period compared to M1 MacBooks. My 2012 MacBook stopped receiving security updates in 2022, which prevented me from updating a browser I needed for an exam. However, when using BootCamp, my Windows 10 installation still receives support until 2025. I would assume that Intel Macs running Windows 11 would get longer support compared to macOS. Of course, the trade-off would be reduced battery life and increased fan noise.
Nope
im still thinking of buying it even though the battery life and such cuz i do find some good use in them, like gaming, finally trying a mac, windows side loading too.
This is gem 💎 productivity device
I will buy i9 max version if as much as $699 deal in future
This laptop still has 1 more Mac OS update to us and best for dual Boot.
I have 2017 MacBook Pro i installed multi Linux and dual boots
im in currently on the market for i9 2.3 ghz 5600m 16gb ram one. only 300 dollars. should i pull the trigger or do i go to 2.4ghz 64gb ram 5600m for 300 more?
they should bring the touch bar bag but put it upper the F keys, power button and escape button honestly
Yep. I know about that issue
GOOD. The keyboards suck.

How will coparenting work?
Mrs Grohl is basically a trad wife, raising his kids full time in Virginia, presumably giving him a stable home to return to from his tours.
If the new kid is in Australia(FF toured there in January 24) and he really intends to raise it, how will he truly be present in the kids life?
Or will he just pass through every winter and leave a bag of cash with the mothers lawyers?
