I just scored a MacBook Air M1 (256gb, 16gb) recently for only $500! It really can't be beat...it just can't, I am blown away with the value for the money on MacBook Air M1's right now
For people who complain about value price on a Mac, they're looking or thinking wrong. This absolutely smokes any PC in both value AND quality AND performance. Better than any similarly priced PC you can get in 2024. And not by a little, but by MULTIPLES.
Now I feel better for owning one of these! It has started heating up fairly quickly these days when performing graphic-heavy tasks, but everything else is still extremely snappy.
Just gifted my daughter my M1 Air when I decided to grab an M3 MacBook Pro, and she absolutely loves it as much as I did when I first got it. It’s such a great value, and it’s hard to beat that kinda battery life. It’s nice to see the new Snapdragon processors should be bringing a little competition to the table, especially when it comes to battery performance. I’m excited to see what the future holds in store.
I got gifted my own MacBook Air M1 for graduating high school. I have to say, this is everything I needed in a laptop and more. This thing is a beast and even though the SoC is 3 years old it probably wipes the floor with brand new Intel laptop processors in terms of power and efficiency in this price range.
I "upgraded" to an Asus ROG G14 after using my M1 Air for a couple years. First one had a bad fan. Returned. Second one was slightly bent after a few hours of setting it up. After that I realized how good I already had it with M1.
Still using my M1 Air that I bought in 2020. Still as fast as day 1, battery health at 95% but I didn’t even notice it degraded until I checked recently because it still lasts me 1-2 weeks using it for school. So so good.
I've had my M1 MBP since release in 2020. It's hard to put into words, but it made portable my entire life. Hobbies like video editing, music, photography and my IT work suddenly all became available on something portable with a battery life that I could use and take anywhere. I use it every day, and because it is so good I have never missed my custom-built desktop PC. I actually did buy a gaming laptop to complement it, and sure it's way better for games BUT I actually forgot about the fan noise and heat! I forgot fan noise/heat were problems with other laptops lol. I also bought an M1 iPad Pro expecting great things. Yeah... Most expensive paperweight I own - Most of the time I check it is charged and then charge it or use it as a second display for my mac lol.
Yup. The 2008-2009 13" MacBook Airs had 1280x800, but the 2010-2015 11" had 1366x768, and the 2010-2017 13"s had 1440x900. :) I liked the 2012 Air I had compared to the other popular choice for a while, the 2012 Pro, because of the higher screen resolution on the Air.
M1 Air was simply too good for its times. It was leaving all laptops far behind, for quite a reasonable price. I'm still using my from Dec 2020 and I don't know if anything, except physical failure, will make me upgrade to anything new.
What do you mean it was, it still is a beast. My base model has better daily performance than my much newer Win-tel Notebook, that cost almost twice as much. ;)
My MBA M1 is a refurbished product 8/512. bought it because I was so intrigued of “apple silicon” things, ngl. and it became my main daily driver ever since (2022, june). ❤
It's impressive what they were able to accomplish with a first generation product. Mind you they've had a number of years to tune their own SOCs. And while there were some initial issues with programs being converted onto arm, by this point all of those issues have been taken care of. One thing that's fascinating about this particular laptop is you can go pick it up brand new for around 6:50 or refurbished around 400. That's an insane value despite it being 4 years old. There are good systems at or around that price. But unless you're mainly focusing on gaming or need a windows computer for specific programs, there's really not much that can compete with this it's mighty impressive what Apple was able to accomplish with this machine.
I love my M1 MacBook Air so much. It’s not just the nicest computer I’ve ever had.. it’s so easy to use and like it. I can’t find a single issue and I complain about everything. If I had ONE complaint, it would be the display doesn’t get quite dim enough for my liking but that’s really nitpicky. It’s a lovely machine. One handed opening, the credible display and speakers.. keyboard that makes you want to type.. WiFi and Bluetooth so good you’ll pick up WiFi signals a block away. It’s really insane how long the battery lasts too.. I’ve had mine for about three years and can still pull of 15 hours of streaming on auto-brightness. Solid machine. I wish I had an extra sealed in box lol.
Dude, the screen isn't "incredible" it's just ok. It's not super bright and has a low screen response time, so there's a fair amount of ghosting on darker backgrounds. They definitely should've used a better display. The M1 Air is easy to use, however it can get pretty frustrating at times due to the limitations of the OS; it's definitely way more limited than Windows, not to mention the fact that macOS has had a choppy scrolling bug for a few years. The M1 Air is fast, however it's not smooth at all. It's a good laptop with great battery life, but that's about it, the rest is either ok, or mediocre
@@just_joseph157 But I feel like most people wouldn't notice many of these issues. At least, I didn't until I started looking for them. the software is limiting, but with macbooks its always been expected.

Writing from my amazing M1 Air 16/512 (which I partly financed by selling my 2015 13inch Pro), a fantastic machine still going strong 3 years since purchase and one I'm unlikely to upgrade from for at least the next 3-4 years. Only downside is the battery life which was incredible for a while but now seems to have taken a big hit... (edit: CoconutBattery shows 83% of design capacity)
MacBook Air m1 is perfect because: 1) power saving 2) small and sleek 3) they fixed previous flaws I see no real reason to upgrade from it if you have one. I still hold MBP with i9 because I love to use eGPU and easy switch to windows via option button on boot
I've used an MBP M1 Pro and now I'm using the Air M1 and the power consumption/performance is very good. I use mainly for coding. The only problem is that the applications are using too much ram, but it's a laptop from 2020.
Correction at 3:45, since nobody seems to have noticed: The 13-inch MacBook Air used a 1440px x 900px display, while the 11-inch model did indeed use a 1366px x 768px display. That allowed both of them to use a similar pixel density, even though it was and still is a low resolution.
Great video, I bought mine secondhand over a year ago, worth every penny, amazing speed, a very refined product (coming from a 2015 macbook air) They brought magsafe back on the next M2 model, and i know I should have got 16gb ram not 8gb but 99% of the time its brilliant even with 50 tabs open.
Christmas 2020 Bought my wife a m1 8 gig air and i bought a 13inch M1 Pro 16gig with the Touch Bar with the hopes of me upgrading to the at the time rumored 14inch pro. I still have the 13 inch best Mac laptop to date
I had a 2012 15” MacBook Pro (i7). What a piece of machine. In 2020, I bought a 14” M1 Pro (1tb). I think I will have at least 10 years. 3 years in use and still works like the first day
I recommend to change battery when it drops to 80% or lower if you like using it out of power socket. All Apple devices start work on lower clocks when the battery is having low health
I've got the base model, and while I regret the storage space, it still smashes through photo editing in Photoshop and Lightroom, and can browse the internet prefect. I plan on keeping it for years to come.
The M1 MacBook Air are amazing! They run circles around my Mid-2015 15-inch MacBook Pro while staying cool and having 4 times the battery life… & my Intel MacBook Pro battery still has 95% health 😢
As a tech enthusiast, I've always been curious to get around to trying out a modern Mac, as I like try to be at least somewhat literate in as much as possible. It's just a bit hard to stomach the high prices and locked down nature of the hardware. I could deal with the soldered RAM, but the soldered SSDs are the hard no for me, as that's a wear item that will eventually fail. The new ARM powered Macs look very enticing, but I can't justify getting something so expensive that I can't continually upgrade/repair to keep running for as long as possible to get my money's worth.
Everyone talking about how great the M1 Air is, but my experience was ruined by mine being owned by my school. Those knuckleheads got the thing with 128 gigs of storage, which caused me to run into storage troubles a few months in (this is just about the 4th year of having it). Even after clearing all my apps off of it (that I can, such as MS office), I still get 13 gigabytes free, with nothing more, no matter how much I take off (it always ends up settling, like I'll wake up from clearing 5 gigabytes and it mysteriously disappears, putting me back to 13). The thing also thermal throttles as soon as one of the performance cores kick in, jumping into the 80s and 90s whenever any real work needs to be done (since when was "Roblox" considered intense?). The lack of ports also means that I've needed to purchase dongles, with my external displays hardly being supported as a result. By the way, the computer is my own, being paid for with my tuition (so it's not "oh well it's the school's computer, so it's their decision"). The puny storage and MacOS have made my switch to pc (such as my finder no longer finding, and my mail no longer letting me search through emails, for example).
I like the new one, especially in midnight blue which made me purchase it. I've tried owning many Macbooks before before but couldn't do it. The new OS and quad retina display rocks!
Have multiple MBA with the latest is the 2018. Still want to get my hands on a Silicon MBA and will check if they have one on sale at a swamp meet this weekend.
I don’t think the size was all there was to it to macbook trackpads. From what I remember tracking and finger feel where miles ahead as well. The multi touch gestures were ahead of their time as well.
I'm using an M2 Pro 14" MBP on the daily right now, but you're definitely fair, the Air was great, even though I find that the first AS MBPs were probably an even bigger upgrade.
Thank you for celebrating this amazing machine! Owner of an M1 Macbook Air here. Could not agree more with your video - this is a wonderful computer! I remember how ahead of the game it was when it first came out, and how it still is! The mind-blowing performance with a 14 hour battery life and zero fan noise in the size of a small folder felt indeed like a machine from the future. And to be fair, the design is much more appealing that the Air's that came after... it has a strange combination of retro and sleek that is not matched by its successors!
@0:06 Right out of the gate! WHERE can I find that desktop image you have on your M1 for use on my Early 2011 13" Macbook Pro? If I can't have the speed, at least I can have the look. 😅
The m1 macbooks are so good that apple struggled to sell people on the newer releases because why upgrade when you can do the exact same thing on your current one while not needing to pay an outrages price. As a computer science major I was concerned there would be something that would take a long time on this laptop but nope, it flies through VS Code and Xcode like nothing. I got my m1 air for $700 with 16gb of ram and 1tb of storage refurbished, theres no need to get anything more.
I've had an iBook 12" 2004, a 2007 MBP 13" Retina thingy, a 2013 MBP 13" Retina thingy, and most recently a 2022 MBA 13" M2 thingy. That's roughly one laptop every 5 years for the last two decades. This is where Apple's bloated prices are destroyed. Nothing ever went wrong, nothing broke, they just got old and needed to be upgraded. My 2013 MBP is still used daily as a secondary laptop for TV streaming.

Yeah i know that m1 MBA was the perfect laptop for me as soon as i saw it’s release. No butterfly nonsense, no touchbar, thin and light, not too big nor too small, long battery life, decent screen, no fan, and comes with apple silicone. It’s just simple no nonsense and works.
I recently bought a 17 inch 2008 MacBook Pro, 2.4 GHz., core 2 duo, 8 gig of ram., I installed a 240 gig ssd., and I then installed Linux Mint Mate and the laptop currently works very well. The design of the laptop is good except that it only has two USB., ports and they are both on the same side and to apply new thermal paste to the processor the logic board has to be removed.
It’s not far from possible. Main issues are the display connection and the ports being in all the wrong places. The body of any unibody would be deadweight though if you think about it… no use for the speakers, battery, any of the SSD/CD drive space.
I bought one of these about a month ago in near mint condition and like 95% battery health for 500 euros. Although hesitant to be buying a 4 year old laptop, once I got it in my hands I felt like I just robbed someone for what I paid for it. Light yet rigid and durable. Great screen that's super easy on the eyes. Fantastic speakers for a laptop that size. Quick and snappy in almost every task. What a truly great little machine. Apple knocked it out of the park with the M1 air. I believe it's still worth buying in 2024 if you can get for like below 650 dollars or euros.
The m1 MacBook Air is so good, I bought one when it was first launched and upgraded to an m3 pro MacBook Pro this year and the MBP just feels like a waste of money in comparison, sure its better but not 2x the price better.

Bought the base M1 Mini on the day of the Apple Silicon Event back in 2020. I still think of it as my NEW Mac....after almost 4 years ! Apple put the laptop world on notice with the OG M1 MBA.....and now nVidia/Intel are following their lead with the ARM-based SnapDragon SoCs.
I'm currently using an M1 Mac Mini, so basically the same thing but with proper active cooling. And man, despite it's age, it's still pretty good. I am considering upgrading to a Mx Pro/Max macbook at some point, maybe the max for gpu performance + longevity. If it weren't for the bigass apple logo on the top I sometimes forget it is the thing doing all the computing and not my actual x86 computer, aside from gpu heavy tasks where my PC is just going to be better 100% of the time. Having access to all of apple's software while still being able to happily use android(I just think android is functionally superior in every way to ios) is great, especially games like Sonic Dream Team that don't seem like they're gonna be ported to other platforms. MacOS is nice, but I feel like there could be some improvements made especially for Finder. MacOS sucks if you try to use it as Windows but is great if you use it more like Linux. I've been convinced ARM is the future of CPUs for a while, but actually using apple silicon macs really helped cement that feeling
My M1 has given me nothing but USB charging and connection issues from day 1. I replaced the usb ports and logic board once under warranty and then again out of warranty. I can never just plug in a usb device and have it work, I have to try each port two times and flip the device one or two times. I love the performance, it’s great but the amount of times I come back to a completely dead laptop because it decided I didn’t flip and plug the charger in enough times really gets on my nerves. I’d replace it today if I wasn’t poor.

The M1 Air is truely THE ultrabook, one that managed to strike the perfect balance between lightweight design and performance, and one that many Windows competitors once dreamed of making (even Apple themselves with the 12” Macbook), the only thing that were keeping them from doing so was Intel and their power-hungry chips 😂 And that’s not to mention the student-friendliness and the almost-impossible battery life, say what you want about Apple but they really outdid themselves and the laptop industry with this machine right here.
The leap of performance from Intel to M1 is incredible. That’s why M1 is the best for those before it and after. The hype isn’t the same for the newer ones, maybe when the time comes, but for now. M1 Air rocks

My first mac , my favorite purchase ever made in life .
i got a feeling for mine too lol, best purchase ive made and still running great!
I’m finding the same… the warm weather doesn’t help!
Is the battery life still okay?
come on dude, it's an Air. Apple did not advertised it for heavy usage anyways
@@ezradja last longer that my Ip15 :D

Found one for $425 about a year ago and after coming from a 2015 Pro, completely changed my experience. Huge value for real!
likewise grabbed an M1 powered pro with 16gb of RAM for £500 a couple weeks back couldn’t be more pleased with it
@@blargd where? amazon or ebay? looking foward to get one
That’s an insane deal😮
Just gifted my daughter my M1 Air when I decided to grab an M3 MacBook Pro, and she absolutely loves it as much as I did when I first got it. It’s such a great value, and it’s hard to beat that kinda battery life. It’s nice to see the new Snapdragon processors should be bringing a little competition to the table, especially when it comes to battery performance. I’m excited to see what the future holds in store.
I've had mine for 4 years and it still works smoothly. It's my first MacBook as well and I take care of it like a baby.
Watching this on my M1 Macbook Air
Me, too!!! Love this computer and I've had many MacBook Pros. Would not trade this one for anything!
Watching this on my M1 Mac Mini hooked up to dual 4K LG displays (got the pair off craigslist for $300 for both!)
Do you still use it?
@@bunny-eu4so Yep, every day unless you were talking about my M1 iPad Pro lol
Actually, the MBA's also had 1440x900 resolution for the 13". Maybe you were thinking the 11" were all the same across screen sizes during that era?
My god you’re absolutely right, yup. Got them mixed up and didn’t bother to check.
Yup. The 2008-2009 13" MacBook Airs had 1280x800, but the 2010-2015 11" had 1366x768, and the 2010-2017 13"s had 1440x900. :)
I liked the 2012 Air I had compared to the other popular choice for a while, the 2012 Pro, because of the higher screen resolution on the Air.
I just picked up the M1 MacBook Air today and it's smooth as butter with no issues
@@just_joseph157The OS limitations can be worked around quite easily if you're willing to search hard enough
@@just_joseph157 But I feel like most people wouldn't notice many of these issues. At least, I didn't until I started looking for them. the software is limiting, but with macbooks its always been expected.
My M1 Macbook pro is still going strong, I've had it since December 2020 and it still feels fresh, I still don't see myself upgrading for the foreseeable future
Got my 2020 M1 Air at the end of '22 at a good discount. With 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, I hope it can last me a really long time before becoming inadequate. This video is quite reassuring.
Great video on the M1 MBA, I love using mine!
Thanks for watching!
Yesssss! I’ve had my M1 MBA for 2 years and I continue to love it. I know I’ll have it for at least 8 years just as my previous MacBook. I will miss the M1 MBA when it’s no longer able to function as it should. I can already tell an iPad Pro with keyboard will be my next “laptop” when my MBA’s time is up.
Even though I have the M2 Pro 14-Inch, I still heavily use my M1 Air.
Curiosity question why bother still using the Macbook air?
I have a 2018 Macbook pro which I love. Can't see a world where two laptops would be needed. Just curious on your take!
Much love
@@tylerbest194 Because the 14 inch is fookin heavy compared to the M1 air, it's even more extreme with the 16in

I'm watching this on my Air M1! Held on to it since June 2021, and still going!
MacBook Air m1 is perfect because:
1) power saving
2) small and sleek
3) they fixed previous flaws
I see no real reason to upgrade from it if you have one.
Yup, got a 8/512 around launch and still use it. It still never feels slow. Probably my favorite computer ever.
Correction at 3:45, since nobody seems to have noticed: The 13-inch MacBook Air used a 1440px x 900px display, while the 11-inch model did indeed use a 1366px x 768px display. That allowed both of them to use a similar pixel density, even though it was and still is a low resolution.
Watching this on my M1 MBA (lowkey might buy another one)
Great video, I bought mine secondhand over a year ago, worth every penny, amazing speed, a very refined product (coming from a 2015 macbook air) They brought magsafe back on the next M2 model, and i know I should have got 16gb ram not 8gb but 99% of the time its brilliant even with 50 tabs open.
I love this laptop so much. Bought it on the day it was available , still flawless.

Bought an M1 Air shortly after it came out and it’s still my daily driver. The thing is a silent beast.
sold my macbook air 2017 for $500 bought the m1 for $1100 at launch. (not from usa) it has served me well for my video editing job, i love it.
I've got the base model, and while I regret the storage space, it still smashes through photo editing in Photoshop and Lightroom, and can browse the internet prefect. I plan on keeping it for years to come.
A used M1 MBA with 16GB RAM is a great deal today which will serve nicely for years to come. I just wish they had made a 32GB RAM variant.
I have the second tiered MacBook Air M1; it's a total beast. The machine has not let me down. Keeping this until it's a collector's item.
The MBA M1 was the first laptop I purchased with my own money and 2.5 years later I have no regrets. This beauty works like a charm.
4 years in I have 722 tabs open in my chrome browser. The M1 Air doesn't skip a beat
I sold my iPad Pro to replace it with an M1 MacBook Air, and it ended up totally replacing my 2019 16" MBP. Great video!
The multi touch gestures were ahead of their time as well.
great buying advice (and potential collectible)
ive got the m1 MacBook Air from launch and its still holding quite well with its M1 chip and the price

I picked one up second hand last year with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. Solid machine even in 2024!!
Great review. I have a MacBook Air 2020 and it is indeed GREAT.
Amazing Machine. Got this Air. the *8core cpu 8 core gpu and the 512 ssd. Runs like its brand new still
now imagine someone would do something magical that enables us to retrofit an M1 board to the unibody macbooks
It’s not far from possible. Main issues are the display connection and the ports being in all the wrong places. The body of any unibody would be deadweight though if you think about it… no use for the speakers, battery, any of the SSD/CD drive space.
Watching this video right now on m1 air 16/256 with thermal pad mod. Great machine
Hell yeah
I bought one of these about a month ago in near mint condition and like 95% battery health for 500 euros. Although hesitant to be buying a 4 year old laptop, once I got it in my hands I felt like I just robbed someone for what I paid for it. Light yet rigid and durable. Great screen that's super easy on the eyes. Fantastic speakers for a laptop that size. Quick and snappy in almost every task. What a truly great little machine. Apple knocked it out of the park with the M1 air. I believe it's still worth buying in 2024 if you can get for like below 650 dollars or euros.
even at $700 it's worth it
The m1 MacBook Air is so good, I bought one when it was first launched and upgraded to an m3 pro MacBook Pro this year and the MBP just feels like a waste of money in comparison, sure its better but not 2x the price better.

That’s 100% something with the wiring in your house. The M1 took 20v to charge and 20v can short very badly.
@@maou5025 lol. No it's not. Not a chance. Especially because I've lived in two different houses while these issues and no other devices have had similar issues.
As a 15 inch M2MBA user i really like the arm architecture because of their efficiency like it’s my first ever laptop that i wouldn’t need a charger to last through my entire day and even if i wanted to charge it i could do it extremely fast with a type C cable which i already have with my 65W adapter
I have the base model. Is it good for video editing and content creation?

The new ARM processors coming out to Windows are very interesting. Hope the software side works out well.
This is such a “real” review of the MacBook Air M1. Definitely subscribing!
It was on sale for 399 brand new for a very short time
wow, best deal.
Got the m3 pro MacBook Air 14 inch man is it amazing
I've had my M1 Air for over 3 years, and I still absolutely love it and see no reason to upgrade it.
