      I am an Apple Fanboy. But that's exactly what I thought when he started the test. I thought he was going with the Dragonthingy first. But then her said, that was the M1 Mac Book Air. Then switched ofer to the 1080p Dragon and went like: "It much better and sharper and the Microphones..." and I was like: "Huh? I mean... Huh?" But maybe we just didn't see what he saw. WHAT I saw was a four year old super-standard lowest line Mac for half the price of that brandnew flagship... still eating it for breakfast if it comes to real life usage and not to benchmark tests.
      By the way: hook both of them up to the power and run those tests again! I don't know how that Dragon will perform. But I know, the little Mac is gonna shift two gears right into overdrive. The M1 is lazy. If there's no electricity, connected, it does what it has to. Not more. When put the cord to it, it's maximum performance.

    Again, Davinci Resolve is still in beta and thus not optimized. When the M series was launched, developers needed to port their apps to apple silicon because there was no other architecture. On Windows, there still is x86, which means developers are not as incentivized to port and optimize their apps for ARM.

      My guess would be that the SDx is throttling due to low battery(similar to a smart phone). Someone did a cinebench test at 31% battery and it only scored 700s versus the 900s when at full battery. Optimization in Davinci Resolve is not likely to result in much performance gains on the SDx as the iGPU is already hitting 100% usage throughout the test.

The SDx is losing by huge amounts in Davinci Resolve whilst it's already hitting 100% resources; even if you were to be able to get a big increase in performance via optimising Davinci Resolve, it changes nothing.

    I genuinely don't understand the hype of the x elite chips. They bragged about AI so much and people thought that actually meant something. They showed a ton of examples of Magic Mask in Davinci Resolve cause it uses AI, but didn't bother showing how terrible the scrubbing is on the timeline. You can get an M1 Max MacBook for the same price as a surface laptop with 32gb of ram, and the M1 Max is WAYYYYYYYYY ahead. I'll be keeping my M1 and M2 machines of course, but I also have a use case for a Linux laptop... and I'm really excited to see if the Linux support on these machines is good enough to finally ditch Intel and maybe have a Linux experience that doesn't kill the battery in an hour. Win/PC sells on compatibility with "everything", while Mac sells on UX and vertical integration. Windows can't even touch the UX/integration advantages of Mac, but it does run more stuff. I use Windows, Mac, and Linux. In our IT department we'd dump every Windows machine tomorrow and open a bottle of champagne when done if it weren't for certain engineering software suites that only run on Windows. Run these performance tests again on an M1 MBA with 16GB RAM…particularly tests where the Surface was faster, but the difference shrinks considerably, and with the thermal pad mod you tested on MBAs. I believe all 16GB models also include the 8-core GPU.

We're not even talking bout m4. I'd say that's straight up failure waiting for a discontinued product.

But they also need to make crossover software for direct X or work with game makers to create better compatibility.

    • @__Senpai_XD__
      @__Senpai_XD__ 2 дня назад

      If a student is considering surface or m1. They should probably go with m1 mac. Surface is a new device with a new CPU architecture (even tho win for arm existed before), so it'll take a fair amount of time for things to get optimised properly on those devices, where as m1 mac is pretty much polished now since its been 4 years already. Though i personally would choose neither and opt for a performance class lappy since i do more graphically heavy stuff.
