    I worked as a HVAC field technician, going to people’s homes, fixing furnaces and air conditioners. One house I was at, I was doing a clean and check, preventative maintenance on an oil fired boiler. Everything was going great on that till I went out to the truck to get a nozzle for burner. I was working quietly cleaning up the electrode assembly when I heard metal grating and a thud outside the truck. I looked over at the house next door and their oil tank slipped off the bricks and slammed against the house. Luckily it didn’t go through the wall and rupture, spilling 275 gallons of fresh heating oil. It just fell off the bricks the legs were on and sideways against the house.
    I handed the lady a business card that came out thinking I did something to it. I told her that I don’t touch other people’s property but would be glad to come back and fix it if she scheduled it in.

    That is prophetic!!! "Finding a way to make things work, often under HORRIFIC conditions"!!!! Make the sign and hang up in the shop. Sounds a lot like life doesn't it, except for the Grace of God and the love of Jesus!!!! Oh BTW, I was off here for a while and I think I missed the Death of your father. I lost mine when I was almost 7 but I can almost see him sometimes when things are slow and sleep is near. As I am apt to say, Don't be sad that his gone, but be blessed and HAPPY that he was HERE!. May the good Lord bless and keep you.😇😀😍🙏🙏🚎

    Even though ive seen a few rollovers in my time, it still staggers me how much the frame of a truck can twist and not break in these situations. Ok its unlikely to be road worthy afterwards but the fact something you think of as being solid can bend so much and (mostly) back again is mad...

    • @JV-pu8kx

      Try sitting on a bridge, waiting to turn, and have heavy trucks using one of the other lanes, making the bridge deck bounce!

    • @timothygeiger8271
      @timothygeiger8271 2 года назад +7

      You would be surprised what is able to be repaired & put back on the road. A lot of them can be repaired, it's just the funding to do the repairs. Some companies will collect the insurance money, & if the insurance company totals it out, buy it back from insurance for pennies on the dollar & eventually rebuild.
      I've driven for companies that do exactly that. The companies i drove for had their own body shops, so they could rebuild for much cheaper. They can straighten some frames.

    • @isallah1kafir196
      @isallah1kafir196 2 года назад +5

      Yes Iron is one amazing material, it can twist, and most often the frame is hardened too, this is one reason one should not weld such frames, after one accident. The old VW-Beetle had torsion bars as spring axles, one end of it was fixed in a pipe and on the other had were the wheel-bearing with brakes mounted, and it could twist when the wheel hit a whole or pump in the road...

    • @litz13
      @litz13 2 года назад +2

      Sumter Wrecker just posted one where the frame twisted a full 180 degrees -- and still largely untwisted when pulled back onto the road and righted. Still done for.

    When artic tippers came on scene, we had 3 go over in a week, the management banned them as we lost so much time for them to get recovered. Luckily no one hurt or structural damage done to our building works. Never had a rigid truck go over while dumping its load, had an 8-wheeler tip over when the driver went for a drive with the body way up in the air.
    Thanks for posting, maybe you should keep the Vulcan in your dad's colours as a tribute.

    Those Cascadia hood latches: sometimes it helps to have both sides engaged before locking any of them down. The action of locking it down on one side puts twist on the hood and raises the other side enough to make engaging the latch difficult, if not impossible.

    • @ecarroll3723
      @ecarroll3723 2 года назад

      Or not be wearing thick gloves while trying to latch it like he was doing.. That's why Ethan was able to get it and showed how it was done without wearing gloves.

    Your dad seemed like a real class act when he was in the videos. If it was up to me, I'd leave the color scheme of the "Big Star" just as it is. It just wouldn't be the same if you were to change it from the burgundy to blue.
    Also, I've always loved those hood wings. They're "old school" but still functional additions. My dad always had one on his conventional tractors and I've had one on my Classic XL since a few weeks after driving it off of the dealers lot brand new back in late 2005.
    As always, be safe and God bless you, your crew and, your equipment.

    • @tuba7084
      @tuba7084 2 года назад +2

      I was thinking the same thing. The truck is very special to them, might just as well keep the color scheme that Ron’s dad chose on the truck and use that as a memorial for his dad. Updating the lights for safety reasons I would fully understand since emergency tow and recovery is extremely dangerous. You could call it the centerpiece of the truck collection.

    It must have been a major impact to bend the inside and outside rims while the tires were initially inflated. Having the tires damaged is one thing but damaging rims on top of it all is incredible! No wonder the U-bolts broke! I’m glad nobody was standing near it. Maybe that’s why the hood latches don’t work since it probably shifted the frame rail back. I’m thinking totaled. If there’s any issues hooking up for the tow that’s probably why.

    The Western Star has a class level that even a Pete can't touch.

      Western Star is now owned by Freightliner. They are just different body styles on Freightliner chassis. Unfortunate.

      Western Star was originally White Motors Co. Answer to Peterbilt Kenworth Freightliner. After Freightliner stopped being marketed by White.
      Volvo snagged White GMC class 8
      And MACK. Western Star went on their own.

      @@darrenk4507 I'm sure you know that Daimler has owned both companies for years. I currently own both Freightliner and Kenworth tractors, I started buying KWs after having to replace all of the coolers on 2 Cascadias because of debris going through their plastic grilles (KW and Pete still have metal grilles). The 2 Freightliners I still own, a 1995 FLD12064 and a 2006 Classic XL also have metal grilles. Those coolers ain't cheap!
      Another real shame is that Mack has been owned by Volvo for quite a while too.

      @@darrenk4507 the old western stars before freightliner was good trucks made with real steel. Sad times when they sold out.
