In this episode, Kenny is called to take our #8 Wester Star, with Vulcan V70 heavy tow and recovery unit, to tow and truck with a loaded, frameless, end-dump trailer, then the customer decides to slightly change plans. They decide they want to re-power the load, which means they want to put a good, running power unit, truck, road tractor, whatever you want to call it, under the load so they can finish delivering the load. However, with this style of trailer and the type of "drop legs" it has on it, it isn't safe to drop the trailer. The drop legs aren't designed to hold a loaded trailer, SO, the customer calls us to bring the Rotator up to lift and hold the loaded trailer while Kenny pulls the inoperable truck out from under the trailer and the good power unit connects to the the trailer. This may seem like a simple task, but it is far from it, and if done incorrectly can cause serious damage to equipment or personnel. I hope you all enjoy this video!!! Thanks for watching and God bless!!!
Again, I wish to thank everyone who has expressed their prayers and/or condolences for the death of my Dad. The outpouring of support from my viewers has been tremendous and has helped in this difficult time. May God bless each and every one of you. Also, thank you for your patience. I am still making videos and trying to get to the new normal without Dad. I will continue to perform jobs and create videos, as long as God allows. Things will be different moving forward. I have to trust that God will guide me and this channel.
Again, a very special thank you to all my viewers, family, and friends who having taken the time to show their support. May God bless and protect you all!!!

      1. Everyone learns at a different pace, sometimes the "slower" learners are better as they have internalized the messages, and will remember it forever.
      2. No point in raising your voice at the smallest things. Adrenalin can start chasing through the body, and you are not learning anything at that time. Some lessons can be learnt on debrief afterwards.
      3. If someone is doing something dangerous or stupid, then call it out but no need to harp on about it. Just show or explain the better way to do it and why.
      4. We all make mistakes, just try not to make the dangerous or expensive ones. If you break something, let your manager know so the component can be inspected, repaired, or replaced. Hopefully they will be mature enough to recognise that it wss an honest mistake and you took responsibility by letting them know.

People just have no clue as to either the weight or lack of stopping power of a train. I describe the emergency brakes on a train is like your car on wet ice.

Ron, as living in the metric world just a suggestion: "approximate 51000 lb or 23133 kg". If you're using a rounded number anyway, it's not necessary to be that precise after the conversion. So 23100 or even 23000 kg ("a little bit over 23 tons") is just fine. ;-)

    • @MGower4465

Probably nice to use a technique you have not used in a while just to refresh, and it gives Dalton another technique to have in the toolbox if needed. That tractor with full fenders must have those to keep the rocks and debris flying up to a minimum for safety, definitely not going to use tire chains with those fenders.
I am guessing you extended the opposite side outriggers to counter balance, indicate floating if it were to float, and it allows you to level the truck and avoid pressure on your tires.

Dalton looks like he is going to be a great addition to your team if he keeps up like he is right now. Guy jumps and takes initiative once he grasps a new task that you teach him. He is very attentive when you give him instructions and isn't afraid to admit when he didn't quite grasp something. If unsure he asks questions to make sure he is doing what he is expected to be doing. He is also safety conscious which is to your benefit as his employer and him for not getting hurt as easily on the job. The big bonus is your teaching style and your understanding. Seeing his boss make a mistake and own it was also encouraging as well. Shows him that no one is perfect and everyone can make a mistake. Catching it and fixing it is the important part. Love your videos and watching you and your crew work.

I'd take a Kenworth over some other trucks but that 379 is hard to beat with a Kenworth

It boggles my mind that the trailer is made with legs that won't support it when fully loaded. I've seen videos of the situation where a driver pulled out without cranking the legs down and could not extend the legs with weight on them. That also defies common sense.

Was wondering, why wouldnt they just drop the trailer on ots landing gear. Then i noticed there are no cross braces between them for stability. Now this makes sense

Good video, noticed 2 mistakes you and Dalton should never get under the load. Can not stress that enough, ive seen cables and straps snap for no reason even using overkill.

I could be mistaken....I'd have to go back and watch the video again, but from what I remember, the only time we were under the load while the lines from our truck were attached was when lowering and raising the legs, and both times the trailer was still hooked to a truck, so, technically, it was still supported by the truck pulling the trailer and the trailer would not have been considered a suspended load at that point. It was only a suspended load when there was no truck under the trailer and we were never under the suspended load. Thanks for watching and God bless.

Blue snatch block is in the wrong place. Hook is turned wrong.

How long would you estimate does it take to train a worker to be competent to do auto recoveries in his/her own??

Question. You said you didn’t want to shortjack the truck but if you also had the load closer to the truck would tha not equal out the shorter outrigger. I understand if you had to lift at full extension but if the load was closer I think it should cancel it out

Why not drop the landing legs and then hook up to another tractor unit???
