      To say the least, male birth control is not as refined and currently shouldn't be considered when the effects are multiple times as harmful as options available to women. In addition the best way to avoid children is to avoid the only activity that causes that, and what's that I hear... Both parties are equally responsible for the choice to have sex (excluding rape of course). Hmm....

      Had it when I was 20.
      Went into the doctor's.
      Asked me if I was sure, had a gf/wife.
      Asked if the wife/gf is OK with it.
      Scedue my apt.

      Procedure is honestly painless but I'm not really a nervous kinda guy.
      Pain was less than the average dentist visit.

    I appreciate that theyre trying to educate people on the negative side effects that birth control can have (because its often not talked about), but some of these side effects are very uncommon and make birth control seem like a bad option. Plus saying things like " they slice open your arm" when talking about the implant (which is actually inserted with a needle) is a scary image that can turn very beneficial and effective birth control methods into something that uninformed people might not consider as an option which is frustrating

      Sanora Braucks, about the implant... They have to slice you open to remove it. Also, there was an implant that could only be inserted by slicing open the patient's arm, Norplant. It was replaced by Implanon, then that was modified into Nexplanon. I've been sliced open three times in order for them to insert/remove/replace it.

    • @sneakingcreature5191
      @sneakingcreature5191 5 лет назад +23

      And then there’s if it doesn’t have any serious side effects being in your arm. I’ve looked into it, and well it can set your cycle out of whack - depending on the person. You’d also have to get it replaced eventually by a new one, where they do cut it out of your arm. Like any birth control we have available, for some women it’s fine and it works, and for other women it does not.
      I recommend having a browse online about some of the problems women have with birth control... it makes me think that this video is pretty on the mark.

  • @laurensimonelli5654
    @laurensimonelli5654 6 лет назад +1015

    I find this 100% accurate. My body violently rejected every kind of hormone-based birth control I've taken. First, I tried Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo. It was fine at first, until my body rejected it and I got a non-stop period for 2 months before I stopped taking it. (My doctor said to just keep taking it and my body would reacclimate, but I think 8 weeks of bleeding out my hoo-hoo was quite enough.)
    My doctor then gave me a prescription for Ortho Tri Cyclen (standard strength). Again it was fine for a while until my body rejected it, and I started getting my period every other week. Also, I had constant abdominal pain that made it painful to have sex when I wasn't bleeding out of my hoo-hoo.
    Both experiences left a bad impression on me, so I didn't take any birth control for a decade. I figured after so long, maybe the medications on the market have improved. I got a prescription for Emoquette. Again, it worked fine for a while, until it made my gallbladder malfunction do I couldn't digest food properly and would get diarrhea 5-30 minutes after eating. I may as well have been chewing my food and spitting it directly into the toilet, because I was completely unable to digest anything properly. I ended up eating more because I couldn't keep anything in me. The only thing my body could absorb in that short amount of time it was in my body was the sugar content of my food because it absorbs quickly. So, I ended up gaining 50 lbs despite having daily diarrhea. I also suffered from chronic widespread joint pain. Also, it 100% killed my sex drive. I got better after I stopped taking it, but now I'm allergic to eggs for some damn reason.
    In my experience, the side effects of birth control have far outweighed their benefits.

      Have you tried a copper IUD?
      I can't handle hormonal Birth Control either, not anywhere as bad as you had it, but it FUCKED with my anxiety and autism so badly I was having weekly meltdowns while on the nuvaring.
      So my hubby and I swapped to condoms for a couple of years. Hated those too, they killed sensation for him and me.
      I just got a copper IUD, and yeah it hurts like a sob. However, once the pain is over, I would say it's great. No hormones and I'm able to have better fun with my husband than ever before.
      I wish I had gotten this BEFORE our honeymoon >_

    • @laurensimonelli5654
      @laurensimonelli5654 6 лет назад +39

      I've thought of an IUD, but frankly, after the experience I've had with birth control thus far, I'm extremely apprehensive about having something implanted inside my body.When it comes to birth control,
      I have to be very careful about what I put inside my lady-bits, because I react badly to parabens, which are used as a preservative in almost everything from condoms to cosmetics.
      Honestly, most of the reason I went on birth control was to reign in my hormones. My period is as predictable as the sun, and equally intense. If they made tampons and Pamprin for elephants, I'd be using them.
      Not only does my body reject birth control, it forces other women to reject it as well. Within the first 2 months of transferring to a new department, I forced every woman in the office onto my cycle even though it conflicted with their own birth control. Not only did they convert to my cycle, but they started experiencing the same period-related symptoms I get. Even crazier, in the previous office I worked in, I forced a woman to start getting her period again after years of menopause! My female coworkers know exactly who to blame when their period comes, now.

    I got the IUD and it really wasn't that bad. Even forgot to take the pain pills before I got it done and walked home after. Had period-type cramps for 2 weeks and some spotting but it was so worth it not to worry about it for 10 years!

      I had one too (though mine lasted only 5 years...i assume it is a different type of IUD?) It hurt a lot. I was prescribed no pain medication though...it was so bad i felt strange right after (aside from the pain) and the staff asked me if i felt like i was going to pass out or had nausea. I didn't, but still felt pain and weakness (not enough to pass out). To remove it was also painful, but not as much as to install it.

    birth control (the pill) isn't only used for people having sex, and dont want a baby. Its also used so that females dont have to get their period once a month, and instead only receive it every 3 months. When I'm on my period I get nauseous and sick, I have thrown up multiple times during it; so the idea of having to get sick every single month for sure is absolute horrible. That is why I take birth control, even though I am a asexual vergin without a significant other.

    They missed the point that birth control medication can actually be really helpful to people who have very heavy, painful, or irregular periods. Also in the UK birth control is completely free, and you'll get checked by your doctor every half a year or so to make sure that it's not causing you any harm.

    • @kannaredpanda
      @kannaredpanda 7 лет назад +15

      I wish the US was like that too.
      Though for the birth control people take for hormones / periods isn't actually 'birth control ' in the sense people think of it. It contains the same ingredients more or less, but is designed specifically for hormone regulation. If someone where to have sex when on that kind of pill, there'd be a pretty high chance they could still get pregnant. So when I was on birth control for hormones myself, I had to specify what I was going to use it for; hormone regulation or as an actual birth control.

    • @honeybunny7239
      @honeybunny7239 7 лет назад +30

      kannaredpanda that just isn't true . They are the exact same thing. Perhaps you were told it was different because people feel shame in saying they take birth control so they then have to quickly say it's for hormones or else there is a stigma of its just for birth control reasons. Iv been on bc since I was 9 for hormones and I'm still on the same pill, it works for hormones and birth control because the hormones function as the birth control. Literally it's all the same thing. The hormones that cause you to start and stop your period are the same in all versions. Estrogen and progesterone. There is no special version that doesn't protect against pregnancy , and one that does. That's just basic reproductive science.

Seeing the male birth control also not doing too hot as it’s being developed has just convinced me it’s not worth it (unless you need it to control your periods, my girlfriend did that for 5 years until her ovaries started getting cysts from the IUD). After a few scares myself of being reckless with women I had no real interest, I’m really just convinced that condoms should be used more often and you should probably stop having sex with people you don’t even see yourself with.

I eventually went to a behavioral health facility because my moods were out of control. I was in the facility for ten days and every day I cried on the phone because I wanted to come home to my mom, younger brother and two dogs. I was miserable as I was adjusting to my new meds. Even when I got discharged I would cry all the time even on happy occasions like my birthday. But eventually with the right amout of meds and therapy I got through it. You can too.

    For anyone doubting the side effects from these (especially the IUD), everyone is different and will have different experiences. In my case the IUD ruined me... The doctors really pushed it and talked nothing but great things. It was not only a painful insertion but perforated and had to be surgically removed in under a month with doctors telling me it fell out but I'm in excruciating pain while I'm taking care of my infant... Then after 5 years I finally got pregnant with my 2nd and ended up bleeding out and getting an emergency hysterectomy from the placenta growing thru the perforation scar. Now I have a scar from belly button to pelvis and internal pain from adhesions to remind me every day how wonderful it was...

      condoms would be if people followed the instruction precisely
      lubricate the condom both inside and out
      do not use a condom more than 20-30 mintues of action, once a condom gets too much friction
      it would tear eventually
      and if you use a condom for blowjobs, please use a new condom, the teeth might tear a little allow small pours of semen to seep through
      my recommendations? anything goes as long it has european seal of quality
      durex is quite pleasureable, esp the new Durex real feel which is made out of rubber instead of latex
      it's quite expensive though...

    For those of you who are bad at hearing more than one word at a time, just because he said "mansplain" in a sarcastic tone doesn't mean this video is making fun of feminists. Everything else about this video is riddled with feminist talking points. The mansplaining joke was to point out the way the birth control industry (or industries in general) give the pretense of caring about women's rights by putting a woman in front of the camera and trying to pander to "hip" feminist lingo, but they're still largely male-controled organizations trying to manipulate and exploit female psychology rather than actually do women any good. In other words, the companies are patriarchal. If there was any joke at the expense of feminists in that sarcastic remark, it was just making fun of the women that are impressed by corporations paying lip service to feminism while continuing their hypocritical business practices. And in my experience, most feminists see right through that bullshit, so the joke's not exactly on us.

    • @Warsrecker

      It is for women not against. The mainsplaining was so people think it is against feminists and makes fun of them so people think this video presents facts instead of the usual. 3/4 of the video is not true. People just accept this cause they tell you that they are telling you the truth. If you are a women you should have seen one flaw atleast. My female friends for example take the pill even when they don't have sex cause it decreases the blood flow and menstrual cramps. The exact opposite they claim here.

      Elayna Gardner actually I take BC because I have PCOS and I've been ridiculed by several people for taking it. A lot of people don't believe that it's really used for legitimate medical purposes. The chance of me having children is slim to none since I'm playing for the other team, if you catch my drift, so there's really no reason for me to take it for true contraceptive purposes.

      Jasmine Hammond Yeah, I have to take it for menorrhagia. I used to literally bleed through XXL overnight pads and a menstrual cup every 3 hours for 8 days a month when I was in middle school.(no cramps at all) I had to suck it up (cause I am the only female in house) until I literally passed out with anemia. (which is surprising cause women usually lose only a few tbsps of blood) Even with the pill, it's 5 days of regular (sometimes heavy) flow per month.

      >.> I wouldn't call it a crusade against men. The joke was right in the video why all these alternative contraceptives exist. Ladies don't like condoms any more than guys do. If anything the only reason it's not marketed that way is because of culture stereotypes which dictate that women shouldn't or don't enjoy sex. Though based on the side effects of the pill, it's a self fulfilling prophesy

Not to mention having an extremely heavy flow. So despite being a lesbian I still have to take the pill because otherwise I'm useless

      omg same.... ive blown money on three types of pills that didnt do anything before my doctor finally put me on these triphasic pills, and when i asked if i could continue to skip my period she said yeah, lots of people do it and it'll be fine. about a month later my period just came out of nowhere, super heavy flow and didnt stop for over a month, and i got a really bad iron-deficiency that had me so sick i couldnt go to school half the time and could barely walk, and i had this weird urge to eat paper all the time. so i went back to the doctor and she basically told me that i couldnt skip my period on them..... even though she literally had told me it would be okay. i think maybe she thought i just wasnt gonna take the placebos but still have that week off, but still she probably shouldve asked for clarification lmao. not to mention that she CONSTANTLY forgets that im on them for my menstrual issues, NOT contraception (im bi but also very single) and doesnt seem to believe me when i tell her im not sexually active.

    • @The_Skrongler
      @The_Skrongler 5 лет назад +21

      I suppose that's a pretty clever way to explain birth control to insane parents, but just know that period regulation is also a life necessity for countless women and girls.
      When I was twelve I started bleeding so much that no menstraul product could withstand the flow for more than a few hours. It started unpredictably and happened for up to a fortnight each month. I also fealt like my whole midriff was being slowly crushed the entire time.
      I did not receive treatment until I was nearly seventeen. Part of why I wasn't medicated sooner is because the adults in my life thought "contraceptive" hormones were too age innapropriate and sex related.
      My case is more extreme than most, but it's still a good example of why you should be ready to take girls who need hormones seriously.
