    IMPORTANT UPDATE FROM BINBOK (12/17/23): BinBok emailed me today regarding the buzzing issue. They said "...we've made significant improvements by redesigning the battery's circuit board and utilizing different capacitor materials. These changes have effectively reduced the noise, enhancing the overall user experience. We're also committed to assisting customers with faulty units and ensuring they receive the necessary support and replacements." So that was great news to hear from the company. If the Buzzing noise was keeping you from purchasing this amazing Quest 3 add-on, that seems to be fixed now.
    BUZZING ISSUE WORKAROUND: RUclipsr @Blunty has found a potential work around for the Buzzing caused by about half of these headstraps. You can find his video here ruclips.net/video/IopdJ5faZJU/видео.html I'd still recommend you send the unit back if you have this problem because some of them don't cause this buzzing at all.
    GENERAL POWER USEAGE UPDATE: Just a follow up as to power usage, I plugged my Link Cable directly into the Meta Quest 3 supplied Wall Puck, Flew MSFS2020 for 3 hours and the headset ended up losing 10% of the battery. That means you should be able to go about 30 hours with it plugged into the wall with an 18 watt charger.
    CLARIFICATION: It looks like I confused a lot of people with that part of the video where I talk about how the headset was at 33% after using the BinBok for 3 hours 14:36. All I was trying to determine was what state the batteries would be in after 3 hours, just to compare it to the 2 hours (or more like 90 min. in Mixed Reality) you get out of just the headset by itself. These batteries are 29.6 watts and do just fine keeping the headset charged until they of course run out (an empty battery won't keep charging any headset). SO what happened was the BinBok battery kept the Quest 3 at 93% to 95% the whole time it had power and then once the BinBok ran out (I'd guess at about 2 hours or so) the next hour was powered by the headset itself down to 33%. Keep in mind this was all Mixed Reality Usage, full brightness and full volume, which is the biggest draw on the Quest 3. In practice, once the first BinBok runs out you would simply swap it out for the other fully charged one and be good for probably another 2 hours. Afte that you'd have about 90 min. left in the headset itself on max draw. SO total of around 5 and a half hours of Mixed Reality. Keep in mind, if you are doing less demanding stuff instead, it will go even longer. Hope that clear it up, and sorry for any confusion I caused.

      Better speakers would be great to have, since more battery is nice and all but pointless, since a lot of people dosn't even come close to playing 2 hours straight. But better speakers for would be massive.

Hell you can't even play a whole game of Demeo in 2 hours and I won't even get into talking about flight sims. Personally I think the speakers are fine for keeping the costs down, and if you don't like them you could always put a better pair on with the 3.5 jack. But to each their own and I certainly can understand your point of view. Thanks for watching.

    The reason you'd want to stop charging from the battery is that charging the internal battery while using the headset can increase the temperature of the headset. If you're playing a fitness game that isn't too power intensive, being able to charge a little bit and toggle it off is a good way to keep the temps down.

    Yeah, I've got a BoboVR M2 Pro+ with two batteries for my Quest 2. I really like the halo strap using their "honeycomb" padding for more grip. Only really wobbles a little when I'm shaking it back and forth continuously and the momentum of the Quest 2 creates a wobble. Assuming your head shape and hair style lets you tighten it down enough. The batteries are rated for 5V 2.6A output, which is 13W. The Quest 3 supports (not sure if it needs it to maintain internal battery charge) 27W charging, which would require 5V 5.4A battery output. Their batteries have gone through a few revisions, so hopefully they get on this sooner rather than later.

      Thanks Joric78, I hope Bobo can figure something out, I know a lot of people like that headstrap (again I fell in love with the magnetic battery system they use). The batteries on the BinBok are only 5v/3amp but they seem to charge the Quest 3 just fine. I'm sure the 29 watts helps. Good luck on your Bobo and thanks for the comment.

    I’m a older newbie to VR. I received quest 3 at launch, and the head strap did need improvement in comfort. I bought the Meta head strap (the one without the battery), I also bought a small sized battery USB-C bank (22.4W, 10k) USB-C to USB-C cable (one capable of fast charging, etc) Now, although I can’t try the really intensive games (whoosie....but getting better), I’ve been using the Quest for 2 hour periods (solid), and that’s good for me, but the headset battery never changed....not a percentage. I would start out with 100% on both ....and end up still with the headset at 100%...while the battery bank was down to 26%. I would be using angry birds/cities vr/samba/all the MR games that came with the Quest...also watched 2k videos...I was happy to see that the battery bank charged faster than the Quest could use it, I guess. Thanks for the vid.

      Yes, seems like the bigger battery banks are keeping up with the Quest 3's power needs. I was running around with a battery bank as well before I decided on the BinBok but I really hated having that cable running down to my pocket. Now with this setup, it is all self contained with not extra wires running down my side. Good luck getting your VR Legs, hope you keep getting better. Thanks for the comment and watching our stuff!

    My Quest 3 just arrived. I am returning my Pimax Crystal because everything about it sucks besides the resolution, apparently, but I never got to experience that. I have been 3 months dealing with Pimax trying to get it to work and they couldn't resolve. Plugged in Q3 and in 15 mins, I'm setup and playing AMS2 in Steam VR using Q3. Looks really good for the $499 price and wireless too. Pimax are charging me to return their product which never worked so I've essentially lost money for having done business with them and have nothing to show for it. I never want to deal with Pimax again. Buyer beware!

      Congrats on the Quest 3... First thing, make sure you get Virtual Desktop for streaming PCVR if you are doing that (I think my 25% discount code in the description above still works)... it is so much better than the stock Oculus stuff. I SO hear you on the Pimax deal. I had a faulty lighthouse faceplate and it has taken 2 months to get a replacement. They had me jump through stupid hoops to replace it, and really bad communication on their part all around. I get so frustrated with them... and then I put the Crystal on and go "Damn... this is awesome looking". The great thing is the Quest 3 gets you in the same ballpark as both the Aero and the Crystal, and like you said so much easier to set up. I'm really impressed with the Quest 3 and highly recommend it for most people out there. Appreciate the comments.!

    Nice review but i wanted to comment about the power switch and Wattage of the BinBok Elite battery. In your review you mentioned how its possible to turn off the battery and mentioned you dont see why you would do that. Heres a little somthing to know about Li-Ion batteries.
    1: the internal Battery of the M3 is also LI-Ion (need to know this)
    2: It is very bad for the battery life to keep the battery at 100% charge.
    3: Its unhealthy for Li-Ion to be run down below 20%
    All of the above will shorten the life of the battery. Running the battery to zero is particularly bad as the battery becomes hot as it drains too low. Many smart batteries actually witll turn off and read 0% at 20% to help preserve the battery life. You also mention pushing the system, running the BinBok dead then hot swapping and putting the BinBok on the charger. I relize that you were going extream there but just as a note, most likley when the BinBok first hit Zero it may have been quite warm. BUt in your case the internal battery of the M3 was down quite a bit so the BinBok had plenty of time to cool but never take a LI-Ion that feels hot and put it on the charger, let it cool down first.
    OK, SO MUCH FOR Li-Ion 101 class! :)
    So heres the deal WHY HAVE THE ABILITY TO TURN OFF THE BinBok battery?
    Ive found that any battery over 30Wh is enough to both charge the internal battey of the M3 as well as allow you to play with it. Meaning that the Internal Battery never falls lower then 98- 100% Very bad for the M3 battery. So having the ability to turn off the BinBok might be there way of letting battery health consious users balance there battery use between the BinBok and the internal Battery.
    Lets take a look at BOBOVR (not sure why your friend is having trouble but I find it the perfect solution) HERES WHY:
    BoBo is only 5200mAh so 2800 less then the BinBok so less game play time BUT, if you have 3 BOBOs you can play indeffinatly. A bit of a disadvantage but heres the KIcker that makes up for it
    BOBOVR battery has a lower charge rate, actualy the perfect charge rate in my opinion. It actually perfectly keeps up with the Quest 3 power consumption, it WONT charge the Headset while playing BUT it wont let it discharge either! So knowing that 100% charge is a bad thing I ran my headset battery down to 75% back in October when I first got it. Then attached the BOBO battery and kept playing. After 90mins of play the BOBO was at 25% but the Quest 3 was still at 75%. The BOBO battery was a little warm but not hot. PERFECT! Since then every time i start to play I ask Alexa to set an 80 minute timer and when the timer goes off I hot swap the BOBO battery. reset the timer and at the next 80 mins put the first battery on the charger (letting it cool completely) and install the 3rd bobo battery for 80 mins. That 80 mins is plenty of time to have fully charged the first battery. so always one on the charger, one cooling and one on the headset. Its been about 6 weeks of daily use for at least a few hours and the Quest 3 is at 63%. So a very slow discharge over time. Just have to remember to remove the external battery when you shut down the head set or it will charge it back to 100% again.
    one more note: Its also a good thing to charge the Headset to 100% every few months, just another battery health consious thing to do with Li-Ion so Im just going to do it when the headset gets down below 50%, probably another month or so.
    WHY DO I KNOW SO MUCH ABOUT LI-ION BATTERIES? I work designing, building and supplying electric V-TOL drones to the military. They use very expensive Li-Ion battery packs and we did 4 years of testing and determining best practices for battery care. My BOBO batteries are 3 years old and still perform at 95% of what they did out of the box.
    FYI - Im using the DESTEK Quest3 headstrap with the BOBOVR cradle hard mounted to the back. It looks like it was purchased that way, very clean install. I loved my BOBOVR headstrap on my Quest 2 but didnt have the patients to wait for BOBO to release it for Quest 3. Im actually liking the DESTEK even better!

      Well let me just start by saying Thank You for sharing your expertise with all the GYGO Viewers out there. This is some fantastic information for everyone and I really appreciate @rbroberts61 taking the time to write such a detailed comment. Great stuff! I did kind of know the basics... but honestly the bottom line for me is I don't really care. I figure this headset will be out of my rotation due to new tech by the time the battery gets that bad. If the BinBok goes bad, I'll simply purchase another... I know consumerism at it's finest, but at least I'm honest. Again, in the video the comment I made was more geared towards "why wouldn't you just take the battery off, vs. using the button", I personally think that is probably how their circuitry is made on their non-removable batteries and they just incorporated it into this design. I do have a question, when you used the Bobo Batteries on the Quest 2, did it charge it to 100% like mine seems to on the Quest 3? If so what regimen did you use to avoid the problems you talk about above? I'm sure other's would like to take much better care of their batteries than I do and that would help them do that. Also, how long do you think my negligence will take to start significantly impacting my battery's performance just so I can watch out for that? Again, I really appreciate you taking the time to write such a detailed comment, it is awesome to see comments like this on the channel. Please share your expertise anytime and again Thank You.

      @GYGOtv @GYGOtv Yes, The BOBO batteries did charge my Quest 2 even while playing. Also the BOBO batteries will get very hot if they get run down all the way, super bad for the battery and frankly could be dangerous. Total discharge of LI-Ion can cause them to catch fire. Although not Ideal for the Q2 internal battery i found the most practical way to deal with it was to start with the Quest 2 at 100% charge And leave the BOBO battery off the unit but handy. The Headset itself will alert you when the battery is below 20% and once it does then I would pop on the BOBO battery and have Alexa set a timer for 90 mins. BY then the Headset is back up to 100 and the BoBO is at about 50%. One thing Ive noticed though is that the Headsets, both The Q2 and Q3 dont get hot even if you let the battery run down till the systems shut down. Im guessing that since the headset can display remaining power of the internal battery its calibrated to display 20% - 100% as 0%-100, shutting down at a displayed 0% even though there is still 20%. Basically self preservation of the internal battery. I was curious, when you run the BinBok down till it dies is it hot? If its just a bit warm then your good, most likly the Binbok has circuitry in there to shut it down at that 20%.

    • @rbroberts61
      @rbroberts61 6 месяцев назад

      @TheDumbahhEcuadorian Yes I noticed that too but its not been drastic at least in the games Ive been playing. So far i havent done much with Pass though games as nothing out there has really caught my eye but ive seen reports that using Passthrough really sucks up battery life. Ive been looking for games that have been enhanced to take advantage of the improved graphics and the battery testing Ive done to get the results Im getting are RED MATTER 2, WALKING DEAD VR, BONE LAB AND a couple of others.

      I think you can put the headstrap either way, I just double checked the instructions and they have the small strap to the front like I have it... but hey whatever gives you the most comfort. As for the buzzing... ya I was worried about that too when I ordered mine but I can say my unit does not do that. Some people are claiming that people are noticing the fan in the headset and mistaking that for the audio buzz but I really don't know. I'd say order it if you want one and if it buzzes you can always return it. Just a thought.

    • @GYGOtv

      Great question jack, I usually just flip my batteries around when they are charged so they stay on the dock but are no longer touching the charging pins. As for the Quest 3, I'd guess it will be long outdated before the battery goes bad. My guess is you'd replace the headset due to new tech, not because of a bad battery. It really comes down to if you like this "clamshell" type of headstrap (more secure) or the "Halo" style strap which is considered more comfortable. For me the big reason I picked this strap was the magnetic battery that actually does work with the Quest 3 vs. most of the others including Meta's own battery strap that is having problems charging the Quest 3, so keep that in mind too. Thanks for the question.

    I got this strap a few days ago AND I LOVE IT! However I do have the buzzing others are experiencing and its enough to make me want to return it. I dont find its coming from the battery directly. but rather the area the battery snaps into the back where the wire comes out of, I tried running another USB C from the battery pack to the headset and there was no buzz so its definitely the connecter from the battery to where the wire comes out to plug into the headset. Does anyone know how to fix this or is this just defective?

      Interesting, thanks for the info. I wonder if adding a Ferrite Choke (Filter) amzn.to/40cbCnm would fix this? If someone tries it, please let us know the results. Personally I'd try to get a replacement but if lots of these are doing it we probably need to find a fix because the strap is awesome in every other way. Please let me know if you find a fix or get a new one that works better.

      Thanks for the comment Harry, come on it wasn't that bad to put this all together... You should try building a Motion Platform if you think this was bad :) I think the BOBO is a great product for those that like Halo straps. Personally I hate the way they feel so I prefer the Clamshell design of the BinBok. I've had a few viewers who also tried the BOBO but didn't like it either because the googles just feel too lose with Halo straps. The good thing is everybody can decide which they prefer for themselves and get the appropriate one to fit their needs. I can tell you I don't regret the BinBok at all and it has held up great over these last 6 months.

      For sure some people don't mind it. It was ok for me but did hurt my head after a few hours where those buckles are. The BinBok was EXACTLY what I had in mind. Thanks for the comment.

    I do think that is a feature where the strap pushes tighter because you need more for it to hold tight and not loosen up on it's own so the ratchet mechanism is probably designed to resist pulling out and not pushing in, like a Chinese finger trap. I also like the feature of being able to turn off the battery to let the headset discharge down to 60% or so. I would do that because it's better to store the headset closer to 50% to make the quest 3 battery have a longer life. If I'm using a battery strap with swappable batteries I should be able to run off of them exclusively and save the quests battery. As of now it is getting a workout since it doesn't last that long in the first place. I'm frequently going from 10% to 90 or 100 now that it drains so fast.

      It's really disconcerting how Meta sunk billions into the meta verse idea yet they don't even address the low hanging fruit - a better head strap, battery , and user interface - plus more free and polished, varied experiences from the get go should have been provided imo. It's this nickle and dimeing mentality that is bs. Also the microphone location, and lack of headphones are two additional no brainers imo. If they did all these things the onboarding would be so much better for newbies . As it is, some fantastic improvement but wtf with broken/incomplete web pages, a jumbled mess of a user library, wifi issues for pcvr.

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@joshkar24Thanks for sharing you views. I guess I have a different take on it because I deal with PCVR headsets like the Pimax Crystal and others that are a FAR bigger pain in the Ass to get up and running, so to me the Quest 3 was super easy by comparison. I agree that for veteran Quest Users, not much extra content added... but then again you always have the library of PCVR if you have a decent computer. The battery issue was a miss for sure, they should have tested that, the Microphone is an obvious downgrade from the Quest 2. But I do think the onboard audio is just fine for a product at this price point. As for nickle and dimeing... Isn't that what Meta always does? It's one of the reasons I never really liked the company and how it treats its users, doesn't look like that will change anytime soon. Thanks for the comment.

    There is another big Problem for a lot of users. Especially with smaller IPD you see a very bad binocular overlap. This shoulnt be and was better in Quest1 and 2. They should have made the screens bigger and fill the borders with an ambient light. But those black lines and the overlapping borders are very distracting and it is hard to find a configuration where this is bearable.

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi JTHBS, I'm almost wondering if they have some quality control issues because I've heard several people talk about the binocular overlap being an issue but honestly it is fine on mine (no different than my other headsets in general). I can see the Binocular Overlap but it doesn't really bother me while playing games. I've also had a number of people use my headset, and NONE of them have had any issues with it. The problem you run into is everyone wants larger FOV which is the opposite of good Binocular Overlap, so where do you draw the line? As for bigger screens etc... it is easy to play Monday Morning Quarterback but you have to think about other things like cost, availability etc. when talking about hardware. I still contend that for the price, they did a great job... at least from the experience I'm having on my headset. Thanks for sharing your point of view, and for watching.

    FYI, based off someone on Reddit testing a ton of different chargers, he found that a 24 watt Samsung USB-C phone charger was the charger that drew the most power while charging the Quest 3. It could mean it's really inefficient, but I don't see Samsung making a shoddy charger, so I'm guessing that this will be the best charging wattage for you when you're simming. I wouldn't assume like you did that the computer data cable will give optimal power for charging. I'd go with a dedicated high speed power charger (24 watt) and run things wirelessly over Wifi 6e and Virtual Desktop. Cheers. Also, how do you like that battery in the back of your head when seated? That's the main issue I have against battery strap headsets. My quest 2 has one, and I hate sitting down with it. Even on the couch leaning back to watch a movie, it was annoying compared to a flat strap.

    I see why you would want to not keep charging the headset more than necessary. Charging too much, over time, diminishes the capacity of the battery. So it seems like it would be a little healthier to use most of the headset battery first (not all of it!, that's no bueno), and then turning on the fully charged battery. That would be better than having to take the headset off and plug the usb-c into the headset port, or stabbing around blindly while having it on. That, and the heat issue, as mentioned below, which in general is not good for electronics.

    If I understood it correctly, the issue with battery packs and the Q3 was the fact that it drains most popular packs really fast. There's also those who report the headset drains faster than the cable can charge it up. I forgot who, but I recall watching somebody who used a proper wattage tester while charging the Q3, and while using the cable, in order to see how much it charges versus how much it consumes.
    If I remember correctly, their findings was that the Quest 3 is limited when charging for some weird reason. Long story short, the headset consumes a higher amount of watts compared to the amount of watts it can pull from the charger/cable. They mentioned that this might be possibly solved by software updates as it is charging behavior. However, it seems with the latest updates Meta just decided to plop a low quality mode to save battery onto the Q3 and called it quits. IMO I wouldn't want to buy a Q3 just so I can set it down to a similar quality of performance to the Q2 just so it can last just as long. It should be higher performance and also longer battery life.

    I thought it was common knowledge now that to properly charge the Quest 3, you need a PD3 AC Charger or Battery with at least 18w (3.6ah) to keep your headset charging whilst you play.
    Otherwise your headset will slowly or quickly deplete before the external battery.

      @GYGOtv all good.
      I have the Quest 3 Elite Battery Strap and can tell you that it is not quite powerful enough to charge the Headset whilst using the most demanding Apps.
      The Elite Batt straps specs are PD3 12w (2.4Ah).
      Many Strap Battery packs for the Quest 3 and 2 are well underpowered, and therefore won't be of much benefit.
      The headset needs PD3 18w (3.6Ah) to keep a positive constant charge at all times.
      Otherwise the Headset Battery will deplete before the External Battery will.

    The real biggest issue is the fact that there is no way to allow developers access to the cameras info and depth sensors. Devs can't make apps based on where surfaces are such as counters or tables or where a machine and it's parts are. If developers or AI could access these sensors we could make apps to show you where what components are in a car or such and allow you to point at virtual points and see how to disassemble things.
    Even if copyright did become a issue or the anti fix BS that companies like apple or John deer, etc. pull so devs couldn't put it directly in their program other people could just host the files online for people to search and download.
    There could be AI devs could make to do any number of things with access to camera info once the user gives permission but the only thing the devs can do to my knowledge is turn on pass through or show pass through partially in certain areas and possibly apply some default color/image filters like color tints.
    The absolute potential behind it is utterly wasted.
    Yes it is important to have the ability to prevent devs from spying through cameras and such but there needs to be a way to at least allow people to turn on the capability for the programs/ai to access the data.

    I mean if your headset is at 30% after 1 battery I'm not sure how it survives a second one? If it can show charging and still go down, that's bad...
    Is it possible that it's like most Chinese crap, not up to specs, and like every other straps out there it's not powerful enough... ?
    Get a brand name 30W output battery pack with proper PD support and it'll still be at 100% and you can swap forever and use them for more than VR...
    I mean, might be me, but that was really unclear to me, but it seems like every battery kit on headsets isn't able to keep it fully charged.

      I guess I confused a lot of people with that part of the video. All I was trying to determine was what state the batteries would be in after 3 hours, just to compare it to the 2 hours (or more like 90 min. in MR) you get out of just the headset. Keep in mind this was all Mixed Reality Usage which is the biggest draw on the Quest 3. In practice, once the first BinBok runs out you would simply swap it out and be good for probably another 2 hours and then you'd have about 90 min. left in the headset itself on max draw. SO total of 5 and a half hours of Mixed Reality. If instead you are doing less demanding stuff it will go even longer. Hope that clear it up, and thanks for the comment to give me a chance to clear it up.

    One reviewer of the Quest 3 noticed if he gamed w/ it plugged into the power it still drained faster than it charged w/ the stock charge block. But if he used a 3.2 amp block he had, it would GAIN battery life in the headset.

      I have not tried using the stock outlet block to see if it positively charges, but considering these batteries are 3amp, I think they would give similar results. Again they keep the headset at 100% (or very close) until the battery goes dead so I'd imagine using the 3 amp wall outlet would keep you going just fine. Thanks for the comment.

      @@GYGOtv that would fit w/ that reviewer's assumption you would probably need at least a 3.0 amp charger (I think he said the stock one is 2.4 amp if I remember correctly) to not loose battery life in the headset if gamed plugged in.

      @@lewisgordon1490Awesome, I'll try to check it out with the Meta Wall Puck too and see what I find out. I'll let you all know in the full review I have planned.

    You ain't kidding. I just got my quest 3. Arrived with 25% within a few mins it was down to 14%. Which has got me here cos I'm thinking something faulty in it.

      LOL nope... these things just eat power like crazy!!! You can adjust settings, and from what I understand Meta is going to do a patch that will optionally limit the graphics power in favor of the battery, but to me that is like buying a sports car and putting a block under the accelerator pedal just so you get better gas mileage... in a word DUMB. Anyway, just know there is a fix, get an auxiliary battery of some time. Just try to get one around 30W and that has at least an 8000mAh capacity. Thanks for watching.

    There’s no way people should have to pay for the problems from this headset such as battery.

      For some people it seems the battery its not a "problem" necessarily. I've heard from a lot of viewers that they spend less than 2 hours in VR in a single session so no issues if that is the case. The "problem" is with us folks who want to be in VR for longer. This is just an option so we can do that. If you are good with 2 hours, then I guess you don't have to spend an extra dime if you don't want to. Just FYI, the $1600 Pimax Crystal also has problems you have pay to fix (like comfort for me) so it isn't just the Quest 3. Thanks for the comment.
