      Hello and thank you for the comment! It's true, I have always felt comfortable with 2D design apps since the original iPad pro. 3D and video editing could be a lot more viable now but it would also be interesting to see if say doubling canvas size or resolution could be possible! For printing illustrations and drawings that could be a game changer!

      Unless of course you also like to put 3D objects into your drawings, usually background items.
      But if you're the type that only use photo reference, the extra juice in M1 systems arent necessary.

      @@zaidali5603 Personally I'm on the iPad pro 2020 and I'm very satisfied with it. (I used to have the pro 10.7 2017, and it felt a bit small to draw professionally but loved the portability) as of today unless you are a heavy user of 3D, I would suggest the pro version from 2020 or 2019 and if it's more casual you can go with the new iPad air. They are all efficient the 12' version are just bigger, and pro version have more layer for your drawings. but the drawing capacity are the same. (there are test online showing the 12' version have less battery then the 11' version as the screen take more energy when it's bigger)

      Hello and thank you for the question. It really depends on what you want to do and your budget. If you are a 2d designer or illustrator then an older model would be a great value for less money. If you can take advantage of more power for video editing, 3D etc then a newer model would be better. As of right now the m1 chip doesn't have any exclusive benifits so you could potentially save some money on a non pro model or an older pro model.

      Also, what’s your experience with blooming? Is it noticeable in daytime? Im not planning on using it in the dark so as long as I can’t see it in daytime, I wouldn’t have problems.

    • @tsukepen
      @tsukepen  3 года назад +1

      Hello and thank you for the comments!! I'm glad you appreciate the mention of parallax and thank you for watching until the end haha! It is really important to me as the ipad has continued to be the most accurate pen tablet i've ever used! The parallax and accuracy of tilt and pressure can make or break a tablet and I have been disappointed in the past when I get a new device only to find when I go to do some complex colors the tablet has a bad case of parallax. Its something that even testing at a store may not reveal and I do try to mention it as often as possible! I have been asked about blooming and you can read some of the comment threads on this video, but in short my experience has not been that of the worrying news articles and online posts. At full brightness and say black text on a white BG in the corners I might be able to spot it but you really have to be looking for it. All around the edge, on full brightness once again, I've observed a faint shadow like effect. In general when working and drawing its something I have never noticed. It could be the panels are sourced from different manufacturers and I was lucky to get a good one. So I cant speak for others but that is my experience so far. Thank you so much I hope that helps and Im always available to talk so feel free to comment!

It is a really difficult time to do anything now but it is also a great time to start a project or hobby in a lot of ways. I have wanted to make a video on how I stay motivated to constantly draw and I will get around to it some day, but honestly I treat it like exercise and going to the gym. Most days I enjoy it and its fun but the days I don't I still try my best to put in the time. Even 15-30 minutes a day drawing sketches and poses adds up to a lot of practice in a year! Procreate layers are constrained by the RAM, not the processor. And currently no apps can utilize more than 5GB of RAM on iPadOS. It’ll only change with iPadOS15 where developers will be able to get their apps to request for more RAM beyond the 5GB cap, but only when the app really does require massive RAM amounts.

Does that affect your drawing or vdo editing experience? And all the shadow effect around the edges and the gap between screen and glass, altho it being laminate display, everyone is talking about. Hello and thank you for the comment! I appreciate the kind words. As far as blooming, I have seen a minor amount specifically in the corners when you have a while screen and black text. It isn't too apparent unless you are directly looking at it. With drawing apps you typically are looking at the center of the screen so it has never bothered me even with full brightness on. Video editing is something I'll have to do more testing with. I'm not sure if the panels were sourced from different places and I happened to get a better one but I haven't been experiencing the same problems I've seen about online. Thank you, I hope I could help. I just took a look at the iPad in a dark room full brightness and drew hard dark lines on a white canvas. If you stare at it there could be some visual effect but I'm not sure if it's just the contrast or the screen. Actively drawing it's hard to tell only if you stop and stare. When I switched to a pencil brush, still with the darkest color selected, it is not really apparent with more shades of grey. In fact I found the pencil strokes to be more lifelike, it is subjective of course haha

On the 12.9 inch m1 ipad pro you need to step up to 1TB to get the 16 gigs of ram. The extra juice in M1 isnt utilized properly by most apps by themselves, but I feel that the aim here is to allow the pro user to jump seamlessly between apps that are all open in the back.
    Either way, I think Apple will ease the hard 5GB cap on apps in iOS 15 since they actually showed RAM capacity in their promo material this time, but they probably wont let apps use all the RAM still, to maintain performance parity between all iPad ranges. Probably only select pro apps will be able to utilize more than 5GB.
    Also, you did not see any white bleed? You know, that bright halo around bright objects in a black background? Teoh Yi Chie(a pro artist and reliable reviewer) showed that problem exists on his M1 iPad.

    • @tsukepen
      @tsukepen  3 года назад +1

      Hello and thank you for the comment. Well said, I agree with what you are saying and I'm interested to see what is unveiled at WWDC. At the moment even with 5gigs of ram 2D design apps are more than fast enough for me. I would like to see 8 gigs available for video editing though.
      I had also thought that, at least for the moment, apple would want to have some parody across apps and iPad models. The ram limitations reminded me of modern game consoles with multiple specs leading to possible restrictions to allow games to run on even the lowest model. Even with more ram unlocked I feel that there will be a lot allocated for iPadOS and background functions so 8 Gig models might not see much benifit.
      As far as blooming or other screen issues, I have seen a little bit of a faint glow at the edge of the display when at full brightness and with black text on a white screen. Especially when drawing (more in the middle of the screen) it is hard to notice on the model I have. I don't know if there are multiple suppliers for the screens or components and I got lucky. I hope that helps please feel free to ask a question any time!

    • @geneoakley
      @geneoakley 3 года назад

      @@tsukepen Indeed. Platform parity was key to last gen consoles with the emergence of specbumped 'Pro' models.
      Might be selfish of me, but I'm just glad that my iPad Air 4 will likely last more than 4 years. It sucks that my canvas cant have many layers at A3 setting(my print target is A5, but I have been taught by old schoolers to aim 2 tiers above the print target size for crisper prints and future upscale output preservation), but I've learned to use less layers over the years.
      As such, as a 2d artist, the only benefit of more RAM(having more layers in Procreate) is negligible for me as a hobby/part-time artist, considering the price of iPad Pros.
      I'm pretty sure they'll let Lumafusion have more RAM though. Dont worry about it. lol

    • @tsukepen
      @tsukepen  3 года назад

      It's difficult to manage a wide range of products running the same OS... Apple has more iPad in their line up than consoles and with a new one possibly released every few months it can be difficult for developers and consumers. I'm sure they will unlock some of that ram though, just like consoles the iPad may have been shipped without everything in order on the software side haha
      All my iPads have lasted a very long time pretty much until they are deemed too old to receive an OS level update and even then they work! My general rule with apple products is to buy when you need something or have outgrown your current device.
      A3 is a pretty large size for procreate but it depends on your workflow! If you want access to more layers clip studio paint is a great software that will work at A3 and doesn't necessarily have a layer cap. Artstudio pro is also another great app that doesn't have a hard limit on layers.
      Haha I'm sure well find out more in the coming days with WWDC. Interesting to see how the limit was identified by developers(it seems from an art app too).

    my biggest dilemma is 11 or 12.9? purely for the sake of size. I am used to the 11. I have seen the 12.9 and think it may be a bit big for me but I have never actually even held one before and the HDR/ LED clusters do not even concern me that much. Do you have any insight on possible advantages/ disadvantages of either size? I mainly use it for Procreate and have the Logitech Slim Folio Pro keyboard case, because I am still PC and Android at heart.

    • @tsukepen
      @tsukepen  3 года назад +2

      Hello and thank you for the comment! The focus on the 12.9 inch model this year is mostly because of the liquid retina XDR display. It's pretty cool but it's adding a few percentage points to an already great base apple has as far as displays on their pro models. If it doesn't concern you then it's probably ok to give it a pass! Right now there is also no specific benefit to having an M1 iPad, but I do suspect we will hear something that will change that at the upcoming WWDC event. So if you aren't sure I would wait for some M1 news. As far as size, I have usually preferred the middle sized iPads because they split the difference between portability and performance well. But with the mini 5 being such a cool little portable device I wanted something to compliment that for home and the office. The 12.9 inch model is portable and if I were to go out for several hours or if I had a use for it, say needing to edit photos right away, I would take it. Other than that it'll sit on my desk haha the bigger size also means the accessories are larger and heavier and it could feel like a proper 13-14 inch laptop in your bag.
      Also if you are doing fine with your current iPad I don't think there is a need to get this year's pro. I'm sure the next one will have a better chip or some other cool feature. I was in need of something to do more complex work and I had been waiting for at least a new model, happy that it has some cool new features!

      @@JMulvy 12.9 is for artists esp the color accuracy is like or better (esp least blooming) than many expensive reference monitors both IPS and miniLED....and has bigger and louder sound.
      Watch TeohYiChie's ''artist review of tab s7+ vs iPad Pro 2020'' to see color accuracy. The miniLED ipad pro is even more color accurate now with 1B+ colors. iPad pro 2020 has average delta E of 1.1 while iPad Pro 2020 has average delta E of 1.3. If miniLED iPad Pro is same as pro xdr monitor, its average delta E is 0.68. Below 1 delta e cant be percieved by human eye and any reference monitor with less than 1 delta e average is considered top tier. Most reference monitors are 1 to 1.5 delta e. 1-2 delta e is percievable by human eye if observes. Above 2 delta e is poor color accurate. Each 0.1 delta e is important. In tab s7+, average delta e at natural mode is 2.4 with max delta e at 4.1 while at vivid mode, the delta e average is 4.2 with max delta e of 9.2
      Basically iPad Pros are portable reference monitors for photo editing and other creative works. If it's heavy for you and you want to watch or game with game controller or browse using bluetooth trackpad while on bed, couch etc for long period of time, find something like ''Levo G2 deluxe iPad stand'' but find cheaper versions if money is an issue because that model is almost 200usd.Multitasking like split screen in 12.9 is also better because apps are full not cramped versions.
      11 is for users who values maximum portability with great power (if pro). You are more likely to bring this with you anywhere esp outside than the 12.9. Accessories are also cheaper vs those for 12.9.
      If you dont like 12.9, replace it with 11 if you can if you get it from Apple store. Try it for yourself.

    I'm currently debating on which size ipad pro I should get for the m1. I have the original 12.9 ipad pro and while I do love the size of the screen, I tend to only use it at a desk. I briefly tried out the 11 inch in store the other day and loved the portability but I still don't know if the screen size will bother me down the line or not. Pricing tells me get the 11in, practicality tells me get the 12.9. I've seen you use the ipad mini in a previous video and was wondering does size affect the drawing experience a lot. Thanks!

      Hello and thank you for the question!! There are a number of options when it comes to screen size with the iPad. I did not use the original 12.9 but I know the newer models have different dimensions. As far as my use with the 12.9, like you I mostly use it at my desk. When I have taken it out in the past with accessories etc it can feel like there's a 13 inch laptop in my bag so along with some camera equipment etc it can be quite heavy. I haven't used the more recent 11 inch models but the middle sized iPads I have used are a good balance between portability and performance! Even with a keyboard case they are lighter and easier to use between the office and on the go. The mini 5 has been an excellent device for me especially while out of the home or office. The mini 5 feels like using half the 12.9 inch iPads screen, like when multitasking. If you feel comfortable using your apps at only 50%size while multitasking then you should be able to use the mini! I think it is also a good balance having a 12.9 inch at home and a mini for on the go. There have been a lot of rumors over the past few months that a new mini will be released soon. If you aren't in a rush it's probably worth waiting for that. If you think the 11 inch pro is the path you'll take then waiting to see what is announced at WWDC would also be a good idea. I hope that helps! Please feel free to ask any questions you might have.

      @@tsukepen Thanks for the response! I'm definitely waiting to see what is unveiled at WWDC before making a purchase. Also I'm probably heading back to the store again to try them out more thoroughly and see which size is best for me. I also carry around my small camera kit and laptop so I'm thinking about weight as well. I know the magic keyboard basically doubles the weight so that's another issue. Hopefully after WWDC I'll have a better idea of what'll work best!

    • @tsukepen
      @tsukepen  3 года назад +1

      Yeah it is best to get your hands on the device to really test it out. It can be difficult to do that in the store but I have heard of people that purchase a 12.9 inch model and unsatisfied go to the apple store and exchange it for an 11. I have not done this myself but it might be good to look into if you are unsure. I find that until I take the device home and use it for a full project or 2 it is difficult to judge if it fits my workflow or not. As far as the weight, the magic keyboard does add a lot and it can be quite a bit to have everything in a small messenger bag for a long day... I decided not to get the magic keyboard for a lot of reasons but even without it you could be looking at a lot of weight on a full days excursion. I'll be taking it out more before doing a proper review. I also wanted to wait for WWDC before starting a review as things will most likely change!

      @@tsukepen I did consider possibly buying the 11 in and testing it out for a couple days. If I don't like it I think I could return it and purchase the larger 12.9 version as long as I'm within the return policy. I think after I test out the sizes tomorrow and see what WWDC has to offer I'll have a good idea on which one to get. I do plan on doing an artist's "review" as well once I finally make a decision and purchase it. Looking forward to more of your videos, glad I found you through my extensive iPad research!

      I think it's a great approach! Since your main decision point seems to be the size it may not become apparent immediately. I just took out the 12.9 inch today and you realize things as you go haha an artists review would be great! iPad videos tend to do well so I wish you luck! And I'm glad you found the channel and thank you for the support! I'll have more videos out soon and if you have any questions or concerns please let me know so I can try to incorporate them into the review. I do plan to talk about weight and what not v

    If I'm interested in drawing in more of a cartoon comic style, what courses would you recommend?

    • @tsukepen
      @tsukepen  3 года назад +1

      Hello and thank you for the comment. Unfortunately I don't know too many courses for drawing but I'm sure there are a lot out there. Regardless of what course you use actually practicing on the daily will always leed to the best results! Depending on how realistic you want to draw, doing life studies also helps. Even with a cartoonish style having a base knowledge of anatomy would be helpful. In that regard I recommend "drawing comics the marvel way" one of my teachers recommended it to me when I first got started and it still holds up really well!

    Buying ipad pro now is a huge mistake, keep your old one and wait for next with OLED display! Don’t do such a vulgarity

    • @tsukepen
      @tsukepen  3 года назад

      Hello and thank you for your input. As someone who did not own a 12.9 inch iPad and was in need of one for work it's often best to buy the best you can at the moment. Purchasing on day one I can use it for a year or two and if the next model does in fact have an OLED then they hold their value well and those who purchased an M1 iPad have the ability to upgrade if they choose. Apples roadmap is not available to anyone and although an OLED iPad would be great we won't know until it's announced officially.

      I understand where you are coming from but the fact is the iPad videos I make are the most successful ones on the channel. Apple does not provide devices to 99.99% of people making iPad videos, only a select few get their hands on the products early and when you get a review unit you have to send it back. Also Im pretty sure apple does not pay anyone haha their brand is built on exclusivity and prestige they don't need to pay off a reviewer, as with most luxury products they sell themselves. Regardless everyone has an incentive to say the new one is best and make a video about it, but that's the case with any new product. The newest product is better than the old one and the next one will be even better. That is the cycle of tech. I still use my 9.7 inch pro on occasion and it is functional for a lot of tasks but doing a video on that would mostly result in a waste of time... I understand what you are trying to say and I am trying to make thoughtful videos on the subject rather than pure click bait but even though people might find the "5 reasons to buy" videos annoying and over done it is overdone because they do well. I put the same amount of effort into all my videos but just look at my numbers. Thousands for iPad videos and tens or hundred for others.
