this man accuracy always on point... lol
The best gun reviewer you’ll ever find
Hickok=GOAT
Only time he misses it’s the guns fault
I just bought a sub XD 40 last week and I love everything about it. Gun just fits. My first 40 caliber and I couldn't be happier. Glock,Smith,Ruger ect so many great handguns on market good time to be a gun enthusiast.
I love mine as well.
I just got one today an I love it my first 40,as well
I am a long time HK guy and can say it was REALLY hard to move away, but the cost value factor is much higher with this weapon. I wasn't in love with the looks, but it is incredibly accurate and functional as a concealed carry weapon.
Why is everybody complaining about the Grip Safety? It is naturally depressed when you hold the gun anyway!?!
Agreed. I love mine + that type of safety as is on a standard Colt .45 that's been around since 1911.
Pale Rider TOTTALY AGREE WITH YOU!!!
one problem with it I know of is that you can't manually run the slide unless it's depressed. say if you're stripping it you may not naturally grip it with it depressed so it doesn't come back. it's something you could get used to tho and it may be a safety feature
personally I like the little safety switch on the M&P Sheild
Pale Rider tactitards
Boy do I miss this gun. I bought this gun 10.years ago and watched this video right after. That's how I discovered this channel. I have to buy it again. Favorite pistol ever.
What happened to it?
I had my xd mod 2 40 stolen last year! I had a Crimson Trace laser on it and everything! It was my favorite cc handgun!
@@cloxx1 I sold it to my buddy in Ohio. I carry this exact handgun but 9mm now. Love it
Somebody: “Hickok, review this gun without bringing up glocks at all”
Hickok: *head explodes
Still processing at 6:50 AM Central time, but it's getting there. Should be full quality within an hour, at least as "quality" as I get. :-)
wow 2010 was crazy i was 8 years old
@Vamavid , Feels strange to me, too. I'm not used to the feeling of missing two or three times in a row. I can usually correct my sight picture and get it on target after a miss.
@biguy525 It's about 18 yards, I believe. I've not measured the rectangle plates; they were given to me from a friend many years ago. They were used in a plant of some kind to set machinery on, so they were not sold as targets. I can measure them, but they are about six inches by twelve if I had to guess.
While most people seem to complain about the grip safet in sa xd line, no one comments on the 1911 that use the same grip safety set up 🤷🏽♂️
Just bought the XD-40 sub yesterday! Already have an XD-9. The big selling point for me with Springfield Armory is the handgrip safety. I have 2 younger girls and while I do preach gun safety (my guns are locked up and away from their reach), that safety feature is just a plus in my book. I also love how SA feels in my hands. I've tried a few Glocks, but they feel bulky to me.
Anyway, this XD-40 sub will be my concealed carry....😉!
You know I've been researching guns for this exact reason. I have three daughters and I'm lefty so safeties are tricky. Thanks I'll be buying one tonight.
I love my xd-40 and have bought 2 of them. Next is my wife loves it as well and we will buy her one. I personally could not say one bad thing about it. I do not shoot other comparable .40's and so we are real used to this gun and it is our ccw. No matter if I shoot low end ammo or big name brand ammo it never misses a beat. .40 in a sub-compact I think is perfect and we will continue to carry these guns.
We love Hickock 45 and will continue to watch him and Jerry M.
@BlackKnightDelta , No, I never get bitten by the Glock slide, even with my large hands. Great design! It puts your hand high, yet it's rare to get hit by the slide.
@jkeys251 , Yep, so many more issues come into play. A gun we're just going to take to the range and plink with just doesn't have to meet those standards. Heck, I can enjoy about anything at the range, as you can see from my videos, all sizes and shapes and calibers! :-)
Just picked a xd40sc and love it! Only have 100 rounds through it but no issues.
That's exactly why I own all XD. I might jump between my different calibers. But in the end they all feel the same on my trigger finger and in my hand. I love the XD Sub!
#nopen
I love Glock pistols, and I also love my XD Sub-compact .40. I shot almost exclusively Glock, but when I went to purchase a new carry gun the XD seemed like a good value. Once shooting it, I came to the same conclusions that Hickok45 did. The slide angle and subtle nuances made it a little difficult to shoot, but nothing that wasn't overcome by some practice. I used the XD in IPSC and IDPA competitions to strengthen my indexing and accuracy with the firearm and carry rig. It worked great.
Sir I want to thank you for your unbiased review. I've heard lots of good when it comes to the Springfield pistols. I actually picked one up after watching your video last week!
@eamonher , It has not given any problems in that area at all, not one time.
Ive had the xd mod 2 in 40 cal for about 4 years now. Really like it.
This is my EDC and I've put over 1000 rounds through mine and never had an issue
@tonyuaine , It's not quite that bad. The logs muffle the sound a great deal.
Hey Hickok I am a fan from Purto Rico. Also I am a Glocker. I have the 27,26,33,32,19 and my favorite the 30. Recently I bought the XD subcompact in .40 and I have to say that is extremely much better gun than the 27 by far. If you compare the quality of the construction of both arms you have to say the XD it is more advance in quality and the difference is from heaven to earth. When it comes to the trigger i prefer the XD. When it comes to the grip you said it the XD is better by far.
I'm a Glock guy, always been a Glock, will always be a Glock guy, but the first time I fired a Springfield I could not believe how accurate it was in my hand. Everybody is different, I guess, but they sure do shoot good for me. The recoil seems to push straight back (instead of the muzzle flying up) more than any other polymer I have ever fired and I stay on target very well even with the high pressure .40 cal...Still, like you I am more fond of the Glock triggers and versatility, plus they are more proven, so I trust my life with them. Good video. Always thankful for the reviews you give.
I've been on the proverbial fence about a compact .40 for a little while now. Your video confirmed what has been rattling around in my head for some time...stick with what you know. Being familiar with Glocks and Walthers, it looks like I'll be getting a G27, as the PPS M2 seems to be MIA in .40 S&W.
Thanks for the video! It's much appreciated!
I love my .40 sub. This is my everyday carry gun. I feel very comfortable shooting this weapon. Never had a problem with it. Easy to clean and fun to shoot. Some complain about the trigger, but I like that extra safety feature, Thanks for the video.
This is a nice video. This guy knows what he's talking about. He's right about trying to juggle shooting different brands. Get used to one and master it. Your life could depend on it. For the record, I carry the XD Sub compact and absolutely love it!
LOVE your videos Mr. Hickok45, been following your videos for years and when I have a new gun in mind, I always check to see if you have a vid on it..Lol. I just got the XD 40 Sub-Compact and I love mine!! I know you are a Glock man, they have never really appealed to me that much, I do know they are quality firearms, as is the Springfield. Keep em coming sir!! Thanks!!
Totally agree with the not jumping to diff ones. Definitely have to drop one when you pick up the other.
another great video.
though i work 100 hours/week (as a physician) i am happy to make your videos a part of my day. on days when you haven't posted anything new, i'll have to say i'm a bit disappointed.
thanks for your thoughtful videos
we greatly appreciate them
Love my XDm .40. Sits great on my hip, comfortable to fire.
Your quality is the best, Hickok! Love your down to earth reviews and I totally agree with what you've said thus far about the XDs. Get your hands on a XDM too!
@CommanderSazabi316 , I'll do a comparison video with both XDs as soon as I can get to it. That will be about it with the XDs; I don't want to turn this into the XD channel. While I have them, though, I'll go ahead and do whatever seems useful to viewers.
I just picked up a used XD 40 Sub Compact with Stainless matte finish slide. It might have had 20 rounds threw it. It’s isn’t broke in at all. Not a mark on it anywhere. I seen it on display for $400.00 out the door. So I said why not. I needed a carry pistol anyway. I really like it. You gave a fair review on this pistol. It’s not a Cadillac pistol. But It is priced like one either.
Yeah, I have an FAQ video on that. If you like music, you'll love it! I used to teach banjo lessons. :-)
Oh im sure it was the trigger. Could have been just the day too. Maybe pulling left or right on the trigger a little and didn't even realize it. Knowing your skill and watching your other videos with Springfield firearms.. you fixed your trigger pull with Springfield thats for sure 👍
I own a Springfield XD Subcompact 9mm and I absolutely love it! I’ve never had any problems and I personally prefer it over glock, to me it’s literally the greatest concealed carry gun I’ve ever carried! Glock is over hyped.
It’s all personal preference. I own the XD and I like it but I prefer my Glock 26, for some reason it just feels better and I’m more accurate with the Glock. Both are great guns.
how old are you sir
Just bought one of these today instead of the 27 and after renting both and shooting both sub-compacts the XD is the better gun, and my favorite carry and shooter until today was my Glock 19 gen 4 so that says alot.
@chriscat88 , Tough choice. Probably a .44 Magnum revolver and a good lever gun.
I love my XD40sc and the safety setup.
I have a feeling with the right gun, you could shoot Jingle Bells on those metal targets. Or Mary Had A Little Lamb.
He definitely hit twinkle twinkle little star on one of his videos.
Thanks for the video. I have this very gun and agree the trigger is numb. I had a gunsmith who actually specializes in Glocks perform a trigger job on it and it has made a tremendous difference in the feel of the gun. Keep the reviews coming.
I've owned this model, in .40, since 2006 and I love it. Now I carry an XDS in 9mm, but my XDsc .40 remains my home defense handgun.
So people like the grip safety on the 1911 but not the Springfield armory’s grip safety? Ok
Right..
They feel even better with the Pierce grip extension.
I have 2 XDs a full size XDM and a subcompact they are in my opinion the best pistols I have owned only second to my Browning 1911 but for conceal carry I love my xd
Nice to see that you've given your targets their summer paint jobs. Boy....... things have really greened up around your place.
@TheCallawayG a lot of guys keep the casings for reloading purposes, if you dont plan on reloading after you're done shooting your rounds, just pick 'em up and dispose properly; you can drop them off at your sheriff's office or local police department, they'll gladly take them.
I have the service model in .40, my wife loved to shoot it so I plan on getting her one this week in the subcompact model. The slide release lever is closer to the rear of the weapon. She has smaller hands so it works out.
@siguser17 , It seems to still have the hump, just not quite as pronounced.
Was just given one as a late birthday present. Won't pass judgement till I can get some range time with it.
I LOVE all these shooting and reviews!
i love sub compacts. Right now i have the beretta nano and love it.. great reliability (for me atleast) and easily concealed.. ive been looking for a 40 caliber and was thinking of a glock but i think the XD subcompact .40 is definetly going to be my next gun!! no doubt!
Haha, I used to think that you hadn't reviewed these... boy was I wrong. I finally stumbled across these videos.
I've had my XD9sc for a few years and it is one of my CCW pistols. I LOVED it... until I got a Glock 36. I know 45 acp vs 9mm but after how well the G36 shot, or how well I shot the G36, The trigger is so much better for me on the Glock. I've been riding a fence about getting rid of it and I think you nudged me off the fence. It is trade time for a G26 or G19, or maybe a G30sf. I'd get a G30s but we can't in Kaleefornyah.
Very excellent observations which all make sense to me.
I love this gun. I had the 40 and now own the 9mm. I had 500-600 rounds threw the 40 and I have 100 threw the 9mm. Both ran flawlessly. Extremely depenable firearm.
I just purchased the XD subcompact and I love the grip. I have a S and W sd9 (not the ve). I'm probably going to make this my full time pistol. Couldn't justify buying a Glock with the price difference but still want to buy a glock soon.
every one should at least know how to operate all guns if possible you never know in battle what can happen i love the grip safety when holstering and unholstering my XD40 service IWB which I have to do often love you Hickock
You make a great point about how much more picky you get the smaller the frame is. Full size guns, if you like them, you just kind of figure out and run with. I had a heck of a time deciding on a small carry pistol. For instance, I thought the Kel Tec PF9 would be perfect until I held one and it was actually TOO thin! Finally found the P11 and that is what I prefer to carry, even though I prefer the shootability and larger caliber of my G23 for everything else.
Said you would not own lots of CD guns and now you have carried one as a primary gun. I have the 45acp in a 4 inch and I love it.
Just bought mine today cant wait to get it 👍
@hickok45 You usually make it look so easy and my brain anticipates the sound of a hit.
It's the best self defense weapon ever made it fits in your pocket and not seen has a 12 round mag or you can get the 19 round mag it's easy to field strip just brakes down into 3 main parts it has a 3in barrel it's really loud though and has a lot of recoil but those things are to be expected but still the best it's very reliable and reasonable priced at around $500 u.s. dollars it's cheaper in Croatia where it's made but it beats Glock any day
Thanks for the review - am considering buying one. Currently carrying the 4" model.
I got both glock and Springfield👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Can never have enough guns! Lol
You need the grip safety on an XD due to the fact that striker on an XD gets fully cocked, while on a Glock it gets partially cocked.
I bought this very same gun in 2018, i loved it, everything about it and i miss it alot! I sold it and bought a Springfield Hellcat. Which i really like also and got because shells were cheaper and i love to shoot. I been looking to get another .40 XD Subcompact to have with my Hellcat
Great demonstration on the XD40 Compact
The nice thing about this xd40 is that you wont believe its a 40. Maybe is the double spring or the slide design but it is less jumpy than many 9mm. The recoil is straigher than many 9mm also. The trigger have its trick but once you get it , you would ace that shot nicely.I tried the Glock sucompact in both 9 and 40 and this one ended up feeling and shooting nicer for me. Now if you want the best compact for carry try a CZ 75 PCR or P01 and you wont ever regret it.
I shot a compact 40 for the first time and missed the target with the first 6 shots, so I can understand his comment that he felt he was shooting blanks...LOL
Joe Smith That's weird. I have a PCR I daily carry, as well as a 19, 26, and XD-40 Subcompact. They all feel like they recoil about the same, but the PCR and XD-40 have significantly more muzzle flip. I have the PCR because I like a good da/sa for concealed carry as I can hold the hammer down when holstering, but every time I go back to my Glock 19 I'm amazed at what a sweet shooter it is. The low bore axis, grip angle, and awesome short reset beg you to shoot it fast. The only 9mm I've shot that is softer recoiling than the Glock 19 is the VP9. I owned one, but for many reasons, mainly reliability, I sold it.
I love my CZ PCR, trust my life to it, and shoot it very well, but I just can't shoot it as fast as my 19. Concealed, CZ wins all day, but if I'm open carrying I will take my Glock. Hell, there's just too many nice guns out there to play favorites anyway.
I picked up a XD 40 subcompact and I love it.
I just bought one for ccw my edc is to big to ccw I liked the way it concealed and felt good in my hand but im used to shooting bigger handgun so can't wait till my bc is done sat ill post how I liked way it shot.ty for video.
went to gander MNT, it was between a 9mm taurus sub compact with slide safety and 17 capacity, or the XD40 11 cap with just the grip and trigger saves.
bought the XD40 for about 30 bucks more and took it to the range the next day, overall, great gun, love my decision buying it.
Definitely my next purchase
I have the same model. Mine was shooting left all the time. after about 500 rounds I decided it wasn't me. I adjusted the rear sight to the left and now i'm hitting the bullseye very consistently. I really like the gun now. I just hate how hard it is to adjust the sights, they have a very tight fit.
I actually went to buy the XD and no matter what I tried I could not be able to CCW it without it printing, I ended up going with the G27, mainly for that reason.
You need to insert the pistol all the way into the included holster. It's adjustable for tension and the gun rides fine. It wouldn't be my choice for an everyday carry but for a walk in the woods or at the range it's just fine. I find the trigger very smooth on mine, but its long progress and reset is annoying. I've become accustomed to the long travel but the finger tip pinching at the trigger is super annoying. Apparently, I'm not the only one complaining about the finger tip pinching from the trigger.
Just got a xd40 today. I can't wait to shoot it. Wow you can shoot!
Just Ordered Mine Today...New Edition to the Squad...🤟🤟🤟
I like the sound of the gun sounds amazing in my Bluetooth speaker
I'll give it a looksee, thanks! Love music of all types, and as they say, who can listen to a banjo and not feel happier?
weather looks better now in mid tenessee :) :) life's good hick! greets from Austria
I love my XD Springfield .40 over any other pistol.
“If I do say so myself”. You speak, we listen.
Great video. Question: being a person with large hands, and the relatively lack of beaver-tail on the frame of the XD (and also Glock), do you ever get the "glock-bite" on the web of your hand?
I had the same experience with the trigger. I started with a Glock many years ago, switched to the XD-40 sub-compact when they first came out, and am now back to a Glock 27. I never got comfortable with the trigger of the XD. Maybe the issue is, once you learn how to shoot a Glock, nothing else will ever be quite as good.
Facts glock or nothing
Hickock your the only one that get,s it thanks for all your video,s and your Impressions on these weapon,s
Springfield & Heckler & Koch is my Favorite because the hand grips are amongst the best. If I can grip it good I am more Comfortable in my Accuracy. I never owned a Glock but I might be interested in a Custom Made Glock gen 5
I just traded one of my Glocks for one of these for the purpose on concealed Carry. XD's are just as good as the Glock in my opinion, and I love the grip angle.
I just the opposite, I like the XD9sc over the G26. In fact I traded my G26 away after aquiriing the XD. I just prefer the grip and the trigger and am more accurate with the XD9sc. I put TFO night sights and use it as my edc conceal pistol.
I just got the XDS 9mm. It almost seemed like getting the XD subcompact 9mm would be compareble considering the XD has much more rounds and all the XDS has is a slimmer frame. Wonder if i should have purchased the XD for the more rounds.and suffer having a bit bigger of a gun
Great video as always Hickok. Hey about how big are the XD Compact compare to a glock or a S&W Bodyguard?
With a very firm shooting grip, the humped back-strap on a Glock works wonders for getting the bore axis down deep into the hand. Life is good, and so is the hump.
Hickock if you had to choose a subcompact 40 caliber would it be the beretta px4 storm or the springfield xd
Love your vids ... keep 'em coming hickok'
Hickok 45 will you a video comparison between Springfield XD 40 subcompact vs the new Taurus G2 I appreciate it
XD are very nice pistol's and good quality.
This may have been suggested before, but I'd love to see you make some sort of music with the various targets making up the notes. Sort of like the dog videos with different barks spliced together. Seriously, many thanks for the channel, and all the advice!.
glock sights are larger than xd's, at least my models are. might be your problem shooting the xd. I prefer the glock over the xd, because ive shot them more, and i can actually ad aftermarket parts to them alot cheaper and a whole lot easier.
great video again!
Awesome as always! Bummed you don't like the XD as much as I do but whataya going to do? : ) I'll be picking up the subcompact 9mm soon enough.
Keep up the great vids!
I use to hate the look of the XD. The tall looking slide made it look like a damn brick. But the more videos I have watched it has grown on me. And since I picked it up and handled it, I love the way it feels in my hands. I also like the safety features. It has more than most guns but they don't make it any more difficult to use. I wilbe getting one in a few weeks. All I need to decide is between 9mm and .40
Do yourself a favor and get the .40! We love ours and it is just below .45 and far more than 9mm. Used in the military and by many police forces for good reason. I love how it is so small but still carries the mighty .40 punch!
Thanks for another great review and follow up. I have an XD45C coming and I wasn't sure which smaller subcompact to get the XD40sc or M&P40sc. The triggers are not the same. I like your advice of sticking with similar platforms when carrying. I think a similar trigger is important also. I've decided to go with the XD40sc because of this. Thanks
