I have owned my XD .40 for 2.5 years. By far the best firearm I have ever used. It has great balance, great accuracy (I hit 97% with this iron), and is incredibly durable. I have used the M9 Beretta, a .40 Beretta, .40 Taurus, 357 mag, and a 1911 Colt (great piece!). But I must say, out of them all, I love the XD .40 most as a sidearm.
Picked mine up yesterday in Newcastle, ca. at Foothill firearms. Put 100 rounds of various make .40 cal. through it without any problems at all. First group of 10 shots were within a 2" group at 30 feet with factory settings. I wont be changing a thing. It is a superb firearm and a joy to shoot. Best auto. I have ever handled.
I own both a Glock 23 and a XD-40. This gun has such an amazing track record for me personally, and probably for most XD owners. Ive shot over 2,000 rounds without one problem. It will shoot anything reliably and pretty accurate. It isn't heavy at all to carry. I find it to be just as light, maybe a few ounces heavier than the 23, but yet just as reliable and accurate as the 23. I'll choose either one anyway in a gun fight. Just my two cense:)
Excellent tour of this weapon- T/Y. My GF recently bought one for $400 as her first carry gun; she LOVES it. I've ALWAYS carried a 1911 but am DEF shopping for this puppy also...
Love mine had it now about 7 Years & it has become one of my EDC Guns,I Bought mine with the added on Night Sights, Which are Great in low Light condition etc Thanks for sharing also
Just purchased mine waiting for the 10 day waiting period to finish off. Located in California. Its my first pistol purchase and I'm so excited to get it. I've heard so many good things about this gun.
I own the same XD-40 service model and I still love watching others who love there’s as well, lol. I own a Glock too and love it but the XD is just a solid quality built gun no machine marks, polished feed ramp, never fails or had an issue with it firing & for a 40 cal it’s very smooth shooting cause of the weight. Awesome trigger and grip & amazing pointer just like a 1911. I put a TLR-7 stream light one mine with a set of TruGlo TFX pro sights so I can fire at night with a click of my light to see my target I can stay in the dark & have the advantage with those sights. Not a fan of lasers cause I rather not be spotted by my laser giving me away if in a combat situation.
I'll be getting one by the end of the week. Any suggestions on a good Concealed holster? I've fired one before and was quite impressed. Low recoil, and quick acquisition. Simply love this weapon.
I have had mine for about 10 years. I like it...The only thing is pulling back the slide back to engage the bullet is a bit harder than my Glock but I find it very reliable.
Thanks for the info. This is my first gun and I will use this vid over and over again until I can take apart my XD on my own. Do you have a vid on cleaning the gun?
I've had one for several months. Shot about 400 - 500 rounds so far. Used it for qualifying for my CCW class where I had to replicate things like stove piping, jammed slide release, and emergency defense drills. Was surprised that I got a head shot after following through with a drill where you have to fire twice quickly at center mass, followed up by a quick head shot. The only potential problem is conceal carry. Too heavy for that but I'd love to carry it if I could. Maybe this would be ideal in places where you're allowed to open carry. Would like to get the Mod.2 in .40 but it's illegal in Commiefornia. Maybe if I get it used or even new with limited capacity magazines? Slim chance that it will happen. So now I have to consider getting a conceal carry gun like M&P (but not Shield since it fell of the Commiefornia gun roster) or another practical conceal carry in .40. But I don't want to get rid of this one I have now. I like that it's perfectly balanced, at least to me it is. The barrel length I think reduces recoil and the snappiness associated with high pressure .40 ammo. I actually like this about the .40 round; it's fun and challenging to learn how to best control and handle a .40 cal like this gun. This is my home defense anyway since I don't have my permit to carry...yet~ Plus I plan to put a light on the gun. I don't think it would be a good idea to have a light attached on a conceal carry anyway...unless you're out hiking in the wilderness or....
i have a 4" XD-40 and LOVE this gun. It does not jam ever. My Concealed Carry instructor also commented about how smooth the recoil was. A bit big for CC but i mainly use for home protection. My usual carry gun is a Pico 380
I got mine a couple months ago. It's a GREAT gun. Very accurate, feels good in the hand & it's made in Croatia! My favorite country for vacation and visiting family! Good review, Thanks!@
Excellent conceal carry gun, but I personally believe duty weapons should be ready with the only safety being the trigger and your brain. But XD’s are excellent guns and you can’t go wrong getting one or all of them lol
Nice review. I had had my XD 40 for a while now and it has performed very well for me. I don't have the $$ to go to the range and waste ammo very often, but when I do, it is a pleasure to fire!
+Beretta96Dan Going to the range is seldom a "waste" of ammo. It's called practice. I started reloading in 1973 and have saved thousand of $'s. Get a Lee 4 hole turret press "kit", (leeprecision.com/reloading-kits/turret-press/) a set of carbide dies, powder, small pistol primers, and bullets. You will probably enjoy shooting more when you "roll yer own".
+Kent Nordland Good idea, Kent. I realize I need to keep my skills honed. I wrote the original comment when ammo was quite a bit more expensive. Thanks for the link. Best regards...Dan
just picked up mu xd 40 service model. love it. have the blackhawk holster but have not wore it out yet in that. i like my inside waistband holster. feels more comfortable and i know its close. works well under a tshirt. ill check into the grips that you have. i like the idea of the sandpaper grip. mine feels a tad slick in the hands so i need something to hang onto a bit more firmly. good review. thanks.
Great video. I just bought a XDm 40 cal compact. I'm a newbe to hand guns. I have owned rifles & shot guns for years. I went to the range with XDm. Nice gun, easy to use and clean. But the problem I was having is at 25' I have to aim about 8" from the center target to the upper right hand corner to get a 5 shot cluster (1" cluster) at the center target. Being new, do i have to lead a hand gun this much away to hit the target? Is it something I'm doing wrong or is the sites off on the gun off
Got one of the older "grip zone" 40sw xd pistols, gotta say best 40 i ever shot. 165 grain bullets have no snap at all but all that extra energy over the 9mm.
Great job "hunter" video was very helpful, thanks alot. I just bought my xd-40 today for personal carry. Mine didn't come with holsters. any suggestions for a shoulder holster for this pistol?
Thanks for the demo. I'm going to be buying this gun soon. It will be my first handgun. I'll be taking the C&C course shortly and this looks like a great C&C weapon. Question: Do you ave any experience with the 3 inch "Subcompact" XD? I'm probably going for the 4 inch but I see they do have a 3 inch in the .40 as well.
I think I’m already having issues with mine.Nit sure but I cleaned it yesterday and when I put it back together. The slide does not go back in forth with an empty magazine inside it does with out a magazine inside. But when the empty mag is inside it locks.Know I only had it for a month so maybe That’s the way the gun is that it knows it’s empty mag and that’s why it locks when I pull the slide. If someone can give me the answer before I go get ripped of my a gunsmith that would be great than you
Every now andthen I use some Flitz Metal Polish an a few Q Tips to polish the feed Ramp on all of my Semi Auto Pistols Its a big help with smooth feeding of your Ammo, Especially the JHP's used for Self Defence etc
You should look into finding a 9mm barrel that can be switched out with the .40 barrel - you would just need to buy a 9mm mag for the XD (along with the barrel). Springfield halted production of the 9mm barrel for this .40 cal, but you may be able to find one online.
I have the same question I have this exact same pistol and my guiderod and recoil spring are single not two springs like yours. Does anyone have any insight to that?
My XDm Compact 40 is my constant companion. Smooth, flawless in firing AND it looks bad ass. It runs neck and neck with my much more expensive Sig 1911 Ultra lite.
I have been having problems with my XD 40 chambering rounds. They seem to get hung up on the feed ramp. I notice that it seems to happening with two of the 4 mags I have for it. have you had this problem?I sent the pistol and mags back to Springfield and they couldn't replicate the problem Is there a fix for the lips of the mags?
Use some 1500 grit and lightly polish the ramp . Just enough to smooth it not to take off much material. The if you take a mop from your cleaning kit and put it in a cordless drill with a bit of compound you can lightly polish the ramp! Again I say lightly . Don't go in with a dremmel and start sanding. It should feed fine.
Didn't read far enough before replying. Also the feed lips on you mags can be an issue . Are they factory? If you can try mags from a friends or rental gun. If aftermarket mags you may get some feed issues as well. Great pistol you made a great purchase
The only times I've had jams on my XD 40 is when I was trying to fire from a bad magazine. I've fired my gun through multiple sessions without cleaning it & it hasn't misfired. I don't recommend keeping any firearm dirty though!
@eje1079 It really is a great gun. The Talon Grips did it for me though. I like the stock feel but if you like a nice tight grip try out a talon. Only $10 when i bought mine. The gun has had no problems at all since I got mine. And almost 2,000 rounds later it is still running perfect
Good vid.I am planning to get one once I get rid of my Glock 22.Liked theTalon Grip job you did. Many of my friends are going to xds or xdms especially my law dog buddies. When I grip one it feels like gripping A 1911.It is A work gun which is what I want.
I'm 18 and I wanna buy a handgun and get good with it before I turn 21, so I can just run up and take my CC test on my 21st birthday. I'm thinking about getting this gun because I'm a pretty small kid. 5'6 and really skinny. I want something .40+ for a CC for stopping power. Would you recommend this for me? Seems easy enough to conceal for smaller guys and .40 seems easy enough to handle.
Have mine for about 2 yrs. now & its my EDC gun I ordered it with night sights on it. Payed apx $535.00 for it back then. I bought a Fobus Paddle holster for it, Aas I do not like the holster that came with the kit from SA I keep it loaded with Fed HST 180 gr. ammo for SD use. this gun like the Glock will run dirty if the need arises. but its cost much less than a Glock & has safety features that the Glock's does not have.nice review
I would recommend getting the .9mm XD. Still plenty of stopping power and it will still do everything you want it to. It has considerably less recoil and with you being of smaller stature that's what you want. I'm not much bigger than you, 5'10 180 pounds, and the .40 kicks like a mule. With regards to concealing it, the .40 may be bigger than you think if you have never fired one. If you really want the power of a .40 caliber, you may want to consider the sub-compact. Hope this helps!
hey I just picked up my XD today , same exact model but mine did not come with a holster, magazine holster and speed reloader. does that vary within states or did I just get ripped off? (I bought it from Turners)
just bought mine at turners. asked the guy and he said it only comes with 2 mags the lock and the box. havent picked it up yet. You got a good question there.
I just bought the same gun in December of last year. I haven't gotten a chance to go to the range and shoot it yet though. :-( Luckily for me I got mine while SA was running there promo so I got 3 free mags and the double mag pouch. :-) I can't wait to shoot it. I love the feel of it.
Just Bought me this Gun and I Love It, paid $430. for it with taxes, Wow super easy to breakdown!! Kinda reminds me of my Glock22 40cal, I used to have....But gotta say Love this Springfield More !! Just wish Mags on this gun would hold more rounds other than 12rd's.... But an Awesome Gun!! : )
@blypanda I shoot pretty much anything through it, anything that is reasonably priced. Winchester Whitebox and sellier and bellot are cheap and work awesome. No issues.
Thats common to most striker fired pistols, the sear hooks on the firing striker, and wont let the slide go forward unless disengaged. Proper procedure though is to remove magazine and check the chamber first.
I’ve had mine for around 15 years. No issues what so ever!
I love this gun!
same model as on the video 4 inch 40 caliber?
I’ve had mine for 9 years no issues

Excellent detailed review and instruction for a new owner as myself. Thanks
1500 rounds and not once have i gotten a jam. Love this thing
Same here very reliable with all brands of Ammo also etc.
Hell yea it's a good gun. I have a similar XD 40 but it's the 2 tone with stainless slide. Just love it.
I'll be getting one by the end of the week. Any suggestions on a good Concealed holster? I've fired one before and was quite impressed. Low recoil, and quick acquisition. Simply love this weapon.
great review. love my XD's!
Very helpful review. I just purshased this pistol today and have already been to the range to shoot.
I carry this gun for duty I love it no complaints
Just moved back to my hometown and looking to buy a Springfield for it's safety features. Great review.
I have had mine for about 10 years. I like it...The only thing is pulling back the slide back to engage the bullet is a bit harder than my Glock but I find it very reliable.
great video, did you have to adjust rear sights and any pointers there? thanks.
Thanks for the info. This is my first gun and I will use this vid over and over again until I can take apart my XD on my own. Do you have a vid on cleaning the gun?

just purchased one ty for insight on different parts and holsters.
9 days left for my XD, feels like an eternity
i have a 4" XD-40 and LOVE this gun. It does not jam ever. My Concealed Carry instructor also commented about how smooth the recoil was. A bit big for CC but i mainly use for home protection. My usual carry gun is a Pico 380
yea man the xd 40 is the smoothest 40 cal I've ever shot.
Greg W I have the same 2 guns. Love them both!
I got mine a couple months ago. It's a GREAT gun. Very accurate, feels good in the hand & it's made in Croatia! My favorite country for vacation and visiting family!

wow that is really nifty that it comes included with all those accessories.

Nice review man...i just bought an XD40 for my CCW gun....and the talon grips are awesome
Sweet weapon just bought mine last week cannot wait to get to the range.
What is the whole next to the chamber indicator
Nice video. I just ordered one last week and I can't wait to get it.
P.S., Have you tried the rubber version on the Talon Grip ? If so, which do you like better?
just picked up mu xd 40 service model. love it. have the blackhawk holster but have not wore it out yet in that. i like my inside waistband holster. feels more comfortable and i know its close. works well under a tshirt. ill check into the grips that you have. i like the idea of the sandpaper grip. mine feels a tad slick in the hands so i need something to hang onto a bit more firmly. good review. thanks.

what did you wrap around the handel ? i like to know
Old Army medic here. Can't wait to practice & play!
Good review I just gotta wait my 10 days to get mine out to the range! Is just a great design and really comfortable to hold.

do you have a good recommendation for a lasersight??
Hey, just picked one up, very helpful vid. Thx.
What about decocking? I see you just pulling the trigger but is there a decocking lever or is it the safety feature on the trigger itself?
@njhunter1108 how much heavier is the xd than the g23 since u got tht steel mag in it??
I think I’m already having issues with mine.Nit sure but I cleaned it yesterday and when I put it back together. The slide does not go back in forth with an empty magazine inside it does with out a magazine inside. But when the empty mag is inside it locks.Know I only had it for a month so maybe That’s the way the gun is that it knows it’s empty mag and that’s why it locks when I pull the slide. If someone can give me the answer before I go get ripped of my a gunsmith that would be great than you
have you ever had any issue with the slide locking back randomly?
why did you pick the service model over the compact model?
How much did the grips run
Can you change the barrel out for a9mm or a 357sig ? Have done it or try it or heard of such thing like glocks?
thanx for the review, i think i will be getting my first gun soon(tax money), this is the front runner, video really helped.
I feel in love with one xd40 last month made up my mind so I'm picking one up 2day
my next toy
great vid....
pick mine up in 9 days and counting.
Every now andthen I use some Flitz Metal Polish an a few Q Tips to polish the feed Ramp on all of my Semi Auto Pistols Its a big help with smooth feeding of your Ammo, Especially the JHP's used for Self Defence etc
thanks for the vid.. just watching it answered a q i had lol... i will be getting mine in few days..
@DeltaLou Commifornia has a 10 rd limit right? You had to get a 10 round mag?
Just bought the same one with those grips today for 300$, looking forward to shooting it
+adam
"Such a deal! are there any more?
I think the xds are the best thing sence the high power. Love them
Got an XD in 9mm, thinking about gettin a 40. Thanks bro you sealed the deal.
I paid 550 for mine. Will pick it up this weekend pending a background check.
I paid 275
pretty expensive bro, are you sure its not a new model?
Didn't read far enough before replying. Also the feed lips on you mags can be an issue . Are they factory? If you can try mags from a friends or rental gun. If aftermarket mags you may get some feed issues as well. Great pistol you made a great purchase
brycewise Make sure you are racking your slide back all the way bro
The only times I've had jams on my XD 40 is when I was trying to fire from a bad magazine. I've fired my gun through multiple sessions without cleaning it & it hasn't misfired. I don't recommend keeping any firearm dirty though!
@eje1079 It really is a great gun. The Talon Grips did it for me though. I like the stock feel but if you like a nice tight grip try out a talon. Only $10 when i bought mine. The gun has had no problems at all since I got mine. And almost 2,000 rounds later it is still running perfect
By far the favorite gun i own
I had an issue with the sub-compact doing that, turns out my thub was catching the slide lock. After I adjusted my grip, never had the issue again.
Excelente arma!
Good vid.I am planning to get one once I get rid of my Glock 22.Liked theTalon Grip job you did. Many of my friends are going to xds or xdms especially my law dog buddies. When I grip one it feels like gripping A 1911.It is A work gun which is what I want.
good video
I'm 18 and I wanna buy a handgun and get good with it before I turn 21, so I can just run up and take my CC test on my 21st birthday. I'm thinking about getting this gun because I'm a pretty small kid. 5'6 and really skinny. I want something .40+ for a CC for stopping power. Would you recommend this for me? Seems easy enough to conceal for smaller guys and .40 seems easy enough to handle.
I cant say that I have ever had that happen before. Did you find out why it was caused?
Agree very good pistol Bro I got one too I'm happy ohhh yeahhhh
Have mine for about 2 yrs. now & its my EDC gun I ordered it with night sights on it. Payed apx $535.00 for it back then. I bought a Fobus Paddle holster for it, Aas I do not like the holster that came with the kit from SA I keep it loaded with Fed HST 180 gr. ammo for SD use. this gun like the Glock will run dirty if the need arises. but its cost much less than a Glock & has safety features that the Glock's does not have.nice review
@RONPAULPATRIOT44 oops! Didn't know I had it off! Fixed it for ya buddy! Thanks for watching
Nice video. That's the full-size, right?
hey I just picked up my XD today , same exact model but mine did not come with a holster, magazine holster and speed reloader. does that vary within states or did I just get ripped off? (I bought it from Turners)
i also bought it in California
just bought mine at turners. asked the guy and he said it only comes with 2 mags the lock and the box. havent picked it up yet. You got a good question there.
I picked mine up Saturday and yes only 2 mags and the lock . which is a bummer since all the videos on here show that it comes with the holsters .
its actually a Croatian pistol also known as the HS2000, Springfield just bought out the name, and is selling them
Love mine.💯
Great gun...I gt one last month put about 500 rounds thru it with no ftf or fte...great gun
I just bought the same gun in December of last year. I haven't gotten a chance to go to the range and shoot it yet though. :-( Luckily for me I got mine while SA was running there promo so I got 3 free mags and the double mag pouch. :-) I can't wait to shoot it. I love the feel of it.
Love my Note 2!
Is that the tactical
Just purchased the Sub compact.
I know you checked the chamber, but it was still pretty funny, you pulled the trigger and then said there was nothing in there, lol.
Will the XD40 tactical mag fit the subcompact?
Should fit just fine
Just Bought me this Gun and I Love It, paid $430. for it with taxes, Wow super easy to breakdown!! Kinda reminds me of my Glock22 40cal, I used to have....But gotta say Love this Springfield More !! Just wish Mags on this gun would hold more rounds other than 12rd's.... But an Awesome Gun!! : )
Mine tends to do it between rounds 8 and 10... but its random on when it happens while shooting.
Nice vid! im hoping i can find a job this summer so i can get some money to give my dad. He seems like he would love this a XD
How do you like it I just got mines today about an hour ago
Still have it and still love it! Solid gun for sure
