That might be the most resounding endorsement of a gun I've seen on this channel outside of Glocks. Well done Springfield.

@Braxus6, You are correct; I've been shot over and over again with 9mm rounds. It never hurts much and is hardly noticeable - I just find the wounds a little annoying, much like a bee sting.

  • @GeorgiaShootersGroup

Wow, nobody whining like babies about the grip safety. About the only shortcoming out of the box is needing a PRP trigger kit and some grip tape. The stock trigger is exactly the same as every other XDM. Having combat fixed sights is the big difference for duty but these adjustable ones have proven rock solid. I can even rack the slide on my boot heel or leather belt using this rear sight with no issues. The green fiber is less flare on your eye and contrasts some backgrounds better than you might think. Especially dirt or clay. Clean and lube and this gun will still run like new after 40K+ rounds. But always spray out the lower workings and keep oil out of the sear and disconnector area. PRP sells an 18 dollar spring refresh kit you need to replace every 1-2 years. If you ever get light strikes replace the striker spring. Gun is supremely reliable. The PRP trigger is exactly the same kit as what the factory installs and hand fits when you pay for a Springfield trigger job. The solid stainless guided and 16lb spring runs great. Once you get used to these sights I shoot much faster than the thin dawson and warren replacements. Happy shooting.

Georgia Shooter I bought a used xd and I would get barley able to feed issues I replaced the spring and it works like brand new .. never had a issue after that is this a common thing with a xd?

I bought this gun two years ago and took 600 rounds to the range to break it in. I fired 600 rounds of Federal, Winchester, and American Eagle ammo and the gun performed flawlessly. Like Hickok said, if you miss with this gun, it aint the guns fault. It shoots exactly where it’s aimed and with no stoppages during 600 rounds, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase. Everyone I know owns Glocks, which are great guns, but I feel the XDM can hold its own against the Glocks. I know about the reliability factors of Gocks, but if I want true reliability, a decent size revolver or semi-auto shotgun is my first choice for home defense. This gun will not disappoint!

Stephen Maurer couldn't say, Stephen. I've never been a fan of Glocks; I don't like the grip angle, and I don't own any. I CAN say that I'm on a couple of XDm owners sites, and a lot of the people on the sites say that they like both nearly equally. I feel like the XDm is an extension of my arm. It is a nearly perfect design.

I own a Glock 19 Gen 3 and love it. However, I just put a XD 9mm in my hand and love the feel!! Reminds me of my Springfield 1911 GI model. Is the XDM worth the extra $$ ? I know you get an extra holster and stuff.... Are they a better built pistol?

Just picked up the XDM 5.25 this weekend at the Dallas gun show and shot it on Sunday at reactionary steel. I'm partial to Glocks (fired 2500 rounds out of my G22 over 4 weekends without any issue) but was looking for a competition gun. I looked at S&W and Glock 34 but the Sprinfield just had everything I wanted. A big difference for me in comparison with the Glock is the trigger pull. I find the XDM 5.25 trigger a lot smoother and it has a really crisp break in comparison to others.

By the way, for those looking for a competition gun, the spare factory mags for that M&P are close to $50 a pop; the Springfield are about $20 less. And right now the Springfield Web site says their gun is coming with three magazines. Just something to consider if money is an issue.

  • @frankgon4

@TheDubDoubt Yes, I know it is to lighten the pistol and it allows the slide to be lighter. The lighter slide is better for low power ammo such as that used in competition. The lighter slide increases reliability with the low power 9mm ammo during cycling. Result is low recoil ammo with assurance of feeding the next round. Faster follow up shots. I am just not a fan of these slide cut outs. It seems to be a good gun for what it was designed -competition matches.

I was planning on getting a 4.5" XDM in 9mm and replacing the standard 3-dot sights with a fiber optic front and plain rear. (Personally, I find the 3-dot system too "busy" for USPSA/IPSC but the XDM I've borrowed at practice and to shoot a match feels so much better for me than an M&P or Glock) Long story short, who's going to wait for this thing to come out and be made legal for "production division" and then save some hassle (and even get some extra barrel as an added bonus)? This guy!

I'm not really experienced but i think this will work. Have your shooting arm completely straight and the other one bent (like hickok) Then put the opposite leg (opposite of your shooting arm) forward and lean forward putting almost all your weight on it. This means you will put almost all of your weight on the recoil.

@Ridaz4LifeR6 A T&E gun is a testing and evaluating gun. They are generally provided by manufacturers to members of the press or more well known members of the shooting community to try, give feedback, and most importantly, provide exposure. The people who get the guns can opt to buy them at a discount, or shoot them and then return them when they are done testing. It's a way to market a new gun.

You could always go with the 40; I don't know if they got them in 5.25; but you can get them in 4 1/2; I'm far from being hickok45; this guy's a guru - but I've been in love with my Xdm ever since I took it out the case.
Not sure if I'd call it a perfect pistol, I've heard a lot of people who can't stand 'em, but they always seem to be Glock fanatics.
It does ride a little high for me, f/u's can jump; especially above a 9mm... but still - depends on the shooter.

Didn't know Rob Letham himself was going to make an appearance starting at 15:25
The bar has again been raised. Nice, nice shooting, man.

Symphony X, in D minor, composed by Springfield, as performed by hickock45.
This thing pinging away on those steel targets is music to my ears.

That XD is making some good musical notes when it's slaps those plates around. It did seem like Hickok was going a bit faster than normal. overall, seem like a good shooter. I have two xd's at the house and maybe after this tour it will be time to get some XDm's too. good Vid!

I bet you could shoot certain targets in order to play songs like Mary had a little lamb. John could probably help a lot with that. It would be cool to hear you playing music on the range like that. I love to hear those targets ring. Very nice looking gun and it seemed you really enjoyed this one a lot.

You're really great Hickok45!!! I was just reading abt this gun on Rob Leatham's post that it's not yet available but then they send you one. Awesome!!!

Nobody, but NOBODY can do it like Hickok45. There have been many times on the street where law enforcment had to shoot through conditions like that. What I wouldn't give to shoot on that range one time. I would pay to do it. We are watching the MASTER.

The reviews Hickok does are very useful; I do enjoy your opinions or pay attention to any other comments made by your reviews. I was debating should I get an xdm 9 or not and this helped out ..... I got an 4.5 XDM 9 !!!!

ok...1. you make hitting targets with a pistol look SO EASY! 2. I can only dream of having a range setup like yours... and 3. How do you do it???? I have seen your video on accuracy and how the that term is used VERY loosely. That being said I think i can speak amongst all your fans and subscribers and ask, what can we all do to improve our mechanics when handling a pistol??? You have experience, and people with experience always have little tips they have learn along the way.

I have certainly enjoyed my XDm 40. Looks like I'll have to try the longer slide version if/when they introduce it in 40sw. Thanks for sharing

I put this downrange around 100 rounds at my local firing range, and since it was a range gun somethings were blah, the sights were tampered with and shot about 2inches up at about 15 yards. And on one round (i dont know if it was the range ammo, cheap stuff :/ ) it clicked, no bang. i picked up the round after ejecting it, and there was a solid indentation on the primer, so bad ammo im assuming. but this gun impressed me besides the above statemnt i mentioned. Good gun :).

@nebula25x yep,HS2000 is still standard issue gun in military and police use...there is no difference between HS2000 and XD models.HS2000 is original name for this gun ,and intended for European market .For overseas market have another name,Springfield Armory XD series, and they are licensed importer in USA ,and have rights to labeled them under SA name, but not to produce them. Also Springfield staff helps to improve some models, like this competition model...regards from Croatia

I think you may want to read the gun it says on it in more than one place made in Croatia.... I own a 5.25 from the Springfield custom shop and a xds they both say made in Croatia.
