    I own the XDs 9 mm. Love it. But I could never understand why so many people dislike the grip safety. When I holster the gun, I feel more comfortable knowing that the safety is engaged preventing accidental discharge. Anyone agree?

    • @kabal28
      @kabal28 8 лет назад +33

      The primary reason why I bought my xds 9mm was because of the grip safety-in my opinion the grip safety will aid in proper hand position when using it, and I am afraid of accidental discharge

      @1900stratoliner 8 лет назад +11

      I love the grip safety concept. You don't have to think about it other than getting a proper grip. Like you, I like an extra measure of safety.

    • @stevebean1234
      @stevebean1234 7 лет назад +3

      I dislike grip safeties, but love the large lever safeties on HK USPs. I also feel more comfortable having a safety engaged. I expect 99.99% - 100.00% of my time owning a firearm I will never have to use it. However, I don't want to worry/wonder about if my safety is actually disengaged or not. I want it to be easy to disengage and blatant that it is disengaged. What scares me more than grip safeties, though, are the ultra-low profile and difficult to use one I saw on a (albeit poorly maintained) Sig firearm.

    • @cwheels01
      @cwheels01 7 лет назад +3

      stevebean1234 Safety on a Sig? Was it an SAO? Otherwise there's only the de-cocker and the slide release.

    • @stevebean1234
      @stevebean1234 7 лет назад

      Unerring 01 Woah! The P220 decocker is not also a safety after all. Poor assumption and/or poor research on my part. Operating that lever at the range was such a pain, though, I didn't experiment with it enough.
      A better example of a pistol I liked but struggled with the safety is the Ruger SR9c. It seemed just as tough as the P220 decocker, except it's also positioned in the middle of the meaty part of your thumb (between the two knuckles). It took some contortionism to get that off. Yeah, Id still like a manual safety, but not that one...
      Downside to the HKs I referenced is that the safety levers protrude quite a bit.

No, wait a minute, I could be wrong there, but I KNOW I'm correct when I say that they definitely know best how to get reelected and how to appeal to the masses of people who live an "emotion-based," low-information life! :-)

    My XDS-9 3.3 has become my everyday carry. Its one of those guns that i picked up & naturally shoot it accurately. The grip with the pinky extension on the 7 round mag made a huge difference on it. I can hold it on target when rapid firing. Follow-up shots are on point every single time. The recoil on the xds is very manageable. It seems to recoil straight back & has little to no muzzle flip. The grip safety & trigger safety gives me a great peace of mind while carrying it with one in the chamber. I was going to order a talon grip for it, but im afraid to change up anything beyond the pinky extension. DeSantis makes a great IWB holster for the xds. Its the most comfortable kydex holster ive tucked in my waist!! Currently waiting for my leather owb holster to arrive in the mail. Im not real fond of my evening walks leaving sweat all over my pistol 😂😂

    Just bought my SF XDS 9MM today. I know nothing about this gun except it's so much smaller then my Sig P320 full. I can't wait to shoot this one. Very good price, not only that, but Springfield has this awesome deal going on right now. First when you buy this gun it already comes with 2 mags but you go onto there site and give serial # and copy of recpt. they will give you 4 more mags, a single two mag carrier, and a holster for free until June. So for $399.99 (that's what I paid at my local store.) you get all that. Not bad. So to hear you like this gun makes me even more happier I bought it.

      I have to be honest now. I did finally shoot the springfield after this post and I need so much practice. I sucked so bad. I shoot like I play golf, if you are standing right in front of me I wont hit you with the golf ball or bullet, but you stand to the side of me and watch out I'll get you. lol not really funny, but I need help on how to stand, look, and aim. whole deal I guess. Glad you did well with it though.

    I have an XD. It was actually the first gun I ever bought. My second gun I ever owned. It's a XD40. Same as a 9mm but just a different barrel I believe.
    I'm not a gun nut BUT I have heard some gurus say that the XD40 barrel is better than the Glock 23 barrel. As far as being able to handle hotter rounds and be able to handle those rounds longer.
    I absolutely love it.
    I have a S&W 640 2" barrel 5 shot .38 Special+P pocket rocket.. (inherited from gpa)
    Then lastly I have a TISAS 1911 A1 U.S. Army. 5" barrel 8+1 or 7+1 .45 ACP+P

    Basically, I get it at the wholesale price, or "used gun" price. After all, it IS used after we play with it for a month or so. :-) So, I might save about a hundred bucks, unless you count the three hundred bucks worth of ammo I put through it. :-)

    I was hell bent on not only getting a 1911 for my first gun, but if i got a smaller 9 I wouldn't get one without an external safety, but this was my first gun at 9mm and its really a nice easy solid gun. The grip safety is just enough for a beginning concealed carry to be confident in the mechanics to carry with one in the chamber. Great price, great gun. Thanks for the video

    I love the back strap safety on the XD's which is the primary reason I choose them over Glock.
    I"m from the school of thought that the 1911 is the most perfect battle pistol of all time and therefore applying anything from that system to polymere wonders is choice in my opinion.

    The xds was my first firearm purchase, it shoots nice for a sub-compact. The recoil is a lot higher than a full size 9mm though. I shot my xds at the range and right after I shot my friends H&K, which was a full size 9mm, and compared to my xds, it felt like it had no recoil.

    Sovereign is correct in that 45 is a lower pressure round. Additionally, the maximum pressure is not contained by the barrel, but the chamber. For manufacturing reasons, the frame is probably as similar as possible between the two calibers, which leaves some metal that is essentially "filler" when using a smaller caliber.

    I 100% agree with you. The Kahr PM9/CM9 is pushing the envelope for pocket carry. Are there more comfortable pocket guns, yes. But it's the largest caliber and size that will fit the bill in a reliable and controllable platform. If you're gonna carry IWB, might as well grab a double stack pistol. The largest caliber/size pistol to fit the bill just got broader.

    I have them both and prefer a 9mm. The 9mm feels like it is a little heavier in your hand however shoots amazing. The trigger is nicer for sure.

    Those 2 liters got even more nervous when they saw all those hollow points being dropped into that bowl.

    I enjoy watching the seasons come and go on the compound. Things are definitely green and beautiful now. Time for a woods walk to check for those two liter varmints.

    Pennsylvania LTCF's are available to both residents and non-residents and are valid for 5 years. For residents, the applications are handled by their county sheriff's office, with the exception of Philadelphia where they are handled by the Gun Permits & Tracking Unit of the Philadelphia Police Department. It should be noted that permits issued by one county must be honored by all counties including Philadelphia regardless of rumors to the contrary.

    I held a xds 45 in gun shop--it felt great, but I am no grip safety fan. I can't say I won't get one though. I have a PM9 to fill the 9mm pocket carry needs.
    thanks for the video

    I'm pretty much sold on this gun. Thanks so much for the reviews. I've watched many of the vids and you are definitely the greatest reviewer. If I could I would fly from Florida just to shoot one full magazine with you man.

    I'm so excited to own one of these 9mm pistols. I love it in 45 too, but the 9 just seems perfect.

    Handled a bunch of carry guns at the store today. The XDs was the only one that felt like I might be able to shoot well. It's pretty small too!
    That said, I don't know if I'm really ready to carry. It seems like a daunting thing to get into.

      +Pugsgunsandstuff Education is key. Whatever you decide to buy, DRY fire practice and safe holstering...It needs to become second nature. Get to know your particular gun/model as well as you can. Look for a good range as well.

      +Pugsgunsandstuff I started with a CPL course and several other handgun courses at a couple of the ranges nearby. I had some great teachers with solid experience (LE and military).
      Of course...If Hickok45 wanted to start teaching in the classroom again, I think we would all sign up....

    About the width - I have an XDM 45 Compact 3.8 and an XDS 45. That 0.1 inch difference makes a very noticable difference when carrying. Especially you are doing IWB. I actaully can use an OWB holster to carry the XDS around conncealed well - while the XDM prints so much more.

    I Have the xds 9 and still want to get a shield (.40) despite the fact that they are so close in size..shield is a couple ounces lighter and a hair thinner. The new upgraded trigger on the shields is the best trigger Ive ever squeezed. (upgraded in Jan 2014 I believe)

      jonathan peres Mainly Glock owner here..very impressed with how XDS 3.3 shot. I am more accurate with it than Shield. One thing, it's a single-stack but not THAT much smaller than my G23. It is lighter due to less/smaller rounds. I don't think you can go wrong.

    I had the Custom Shop do the carry package upgrade. Well worth the cost. Better trigger, tuned, night sights.

    Yeah OP was saying that .45 has more energy than 9mm because it's faster when it isn't and speed isn't even the only factoring variable.

    Yeah, I hear you... I still favor the .45, but the 9mm version is also tempting to me. It'd be a good option.
