- This is a table top comparison and review of the new Springfield XDS Mod 2 .45ACP and the original XDS. I start with an unboxing and then move through a point by point comparison. Enjoy!

I guess I'm weird, I like the original XDs better than the Mod 2.
When I purchased mine (XDs 9mm, stainless steel slide) I got to hold it, a Glock G43, and a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield. The Springfield XDs (not mod 2) just felt better in my hand than the others.
I actually think that the Mod 2 design is a step backwards in ergonomics, and makes the gun less interesting.
I have to admit I was worried when you stated this would be short yet 10 minutes long. To my surprise, You did a GREAT JOB, very quickly and thoroughly matching the two of my favorite firearms, I didn’t notice the time at all. PLEASE share your secret with everyone who posts video as I’m sure I’ve skipped great info due to the host’s inability to plan and move through the information. BRAVO
Just bought my xd mod 2 .45 ACP last week and cannot be happier. Painted on some cleaner sights but aside from that the trigger pull is crisp and it’s all the ammo I need with an extra mag in my back pocket for CC.
Ju-87 Stuka
Glad to hear your enjoying your firearm.
I see you bought it in a 45 how is the recoil for the follow up shoots ?
I love my my original XDS 9mm 3.3. I upgraded the internal components, and I enjoy it as much as my Glock 19, and the trigger is very similar now in pounds. I put a rubber sleeve on the grip, and it's much better now.
It is refreshing to hear someone speak about firearms with concision and brevity; very informative, "just the facts Ma'am", without all the blabber that is too common on RUclips videos. A+ rating on answering the question for a long time XDS .45 3.3 owner.
Great review and we got to see that mug of your. Love love my XD9 Mod 2 2. This XDs Mod 2 is something I'm going to have to look into.
I really like the original truck tire grip better. Still an awesome gun in any configuration.
The XDS will be with me for years. I just don't think a 45 could be built easier to carry and shoot accurately. Not to dish others...there are many excellent choices but for me the aggressive grip, the ease of sight picture and recoil control are just the right combination.
Well....notsomuch.. I thought it would. I was looking for a 9 and walked into a gun shop. My 45 stayed there. I wasn't really planning on that but...now to buy my 1911 back from a friend that says he doesn't need it and I can buy it back anytime.
In full disclosure...I still believe the XDS45 is the best CC 45 out there.. but the Ruger LC9 is just enough smaller and shoots very well.
This pistol is remarkably accurate and easy to shoot and carry in .45 One of my favorites. It is obviously heavier to carry than the nine but I like the round and the accuracy.
So glad the 9mm gen2s came out... so i could get my gen1 at $100 cheaper
Lmao same just got one for a steal
I grabbed a new Gen 1 for $350. I like 1 better.
Right? :D I do the same thing, but tend to get them for $200 cheaper.
I paid 267 for my gen. 1
Wow awesome for you guys! Lol.. I paid like $550 or $600 for my two-tone back in 2013(?). I'm jelly
I just got an XDS .45 mod 2 today. Feels great looks great
I like my XDS. A lot of kaboom in a small package, plus great ergonomics.
I just bought my daughter a Springfield XDS-9 40 ACP & it came with a laser sight. I kinda looks like the Springfield Hellcat.
She loves it & now all she needs is a light on the front. I plan on buying 2 more mags for her. Great gun.
Thank you. I just purchased my subcompact 9mm. Very informative.
During the Labor Day weekend I was able to to purchase the mod 2 and absolutely thrilled with the gun. I have shot the original and mod 2 earlier this year and yes there is a differences in recoil. Mod two does a better job on The Recoil especially on the grip.
I realize it's personal preference, but I prefer the grip of the original over the Model 2, it has a meatier feel to it and fits my hand better.
A XDs 3.3 Mod2 OSP .45acp owner here. This pistol replaced my old Sig P250SC striker fired 9mm that started to fail to lock back the slide on last round so I needed a replacement but wanted .45acp big bore firepower in a micro compact CCW pistol. This XDs 3.3 Mod2 is an excellent pistol for the job, I have all kinds of pistols for the multitude of other tasks such as home defense which has my SA XDm 4.5 9mm that carries 19+1 rounds at the ready and my MCK G21SF PDW .45ACP.
Just bought an XDS mod 2 without any research...First rounds going out tomorrow. I appreciate learning from you how to take the gun down. Hoping to put it back in reverse order.
Started with the XDS 3.3, changed up to the 4.0 as it is more controllable and accurate. I have lived with the 4.0 as a daily carry for several years, quite comfortable to my XXL hands. Love my 1911's, but the reduction in weight is more appreciated at the end of the day. Retired military SOG, Enhanced CCW licenced. Lifetime NRA member...VFW/DAV.
I've got the original Mod 1 .45acp, my only gripe I wish they were 7 round capacity from the start.
This is an excellent review, thanks.
Love my XDs Mod 2, OSP, 3.3 inch, 9mm currently using a Desantis Pegasus Slim-tuk IWB holster running appendix for almost 2 weeks now it's great!!
I just purchased mine today which is October 2023. I got it for $475 out the door. But it’s crazy because I was aware of the chamber indicator and the and the indicator on top on the XDS but on this Mod two it does not have it but on yours, you’re saying it does have the indicators for being loaded and having a round in the chamber. And I did not come with the hard box. It only came with just the two round magazines a five round magazine, and a six round magazine.
I always liked the original XDS, the new one feels better in my hand. Waiting for the 9mm version
The 9mm is available.
Just bought my XDS 9mm a couple of days ago with an extended 9 mag and it’s great!
@@seththomas6727 where did u get mag
I've got the Original, MOD2 OSP with Crimson Trace red dot, XDE and Hellcat OSP. All are great guns but my favorite EDC is the Hellcat mounted with the Holosun 507K. I would trust all of them with my life. Not one hiccup from any of them so far. Springfield knows what they are doing!
The new Mod2 box is the same box the first XDs came in. They switched it to the smaller box later.
Ryan Lynd Yeah your right .! Same big box I have .
@marksmantv did you try taking the sleeves off of the extended magazines and checking fit that way? Are they close enough to use the same kydex holsters?
Full disclosure...my XDS was traded in for a Ruger LC9. A bit less fire power but enough. Also an excellent shooting firearm and easier to conceal. Still...I think the XDS is the best small 45 going. Second to none.
I got a new xds. This year and it only had white dots and it also didn't have the nice foam place holder. I had tru glo sites added to it.
Got myself an Xds 4.0 in 9mm yesterday for 350$ and i think it was a steal 💪 the original Xds also looks better imo. And the grip fits my hand like a glove, no reason for me to try the mod 2.
Own and carry the XDS everyday.
XDS MOD. 2 45 for me too!! carry every day. Glock 42 .380 when .45 is too big. Sig 365 is good gun, but mags are way too hard to load...
Doran Jaffas I am very impressed with the brand, XD.
BRETT b just got one!
Got a Talon holster, it's pretty nice!
IMO, the XDS is the kind of gun *CATERPILLAR* would make if they made guns, although the color would suck so I guess it's a good thing they don't. It's small-ish but very solid which is why I bought one.
I'm sure the mod 2 is more comfortable to some but the aggressive texture of the XDS was a selling point for me. The other was the grip safety. Some don't like it but the mechanism is simple and the best part is I have big hands and don't even notice it.
According to Springfield (6/2019) the XDS has been discontinued, probably to push the Mod 2, and I'm thinking very hard about buying another while I can. I don't need another one but since when has that ever been a reason not to get another.
Awesome commentary...thx for the field strip.
Might have missed it. But the mod 2 has a different style extractor. Mod 1 has a thru pin that holds the extractor in. The mod 2 extractor spring plugs in from the rear of the slide and is held captive by the rear slide plate .
You said that the flush magazines are interchangeable with the flat base plate, that being said would a after market mag extender for the XDS work on the XDS MOD.2?
If anybody is wondering the mod 2 is slightly thicker and feels kinda more rounder on the grip. The best i can say is go in your local gun shop and ask to check them out in person and get a good feel
Peace, I just bought a 9mm xds mod2 and it has no extractor spring. Is that a manufacturing error or a manufacturing spec?
Does it have the dummy pin that sticks out the back after its racked ? Like the xdm?
I'm an owner of the 3.3. And although I don't hate the first grip, the second one is an unequivocal improvement. Reminds me of a more attractive M&P Shield grip. I may consider this in 9mm.
Interesting that the mod 2 comes in the same style case as my original XDs that I bought the month they were released.
Good video man...!!! So, now I know there is absolutely NO reason why I should upgrade my XDS .45 4.0 that I carry every day... I have seen the new mod 2 grip frame and I actually like my old grip better, yes it is more aggressive but its more controllable on the recoil for faster shooting... My original extended factory mags hold 7 and my factory short mags hold 6 so maybe the 9mm version is different...
Nice video... Can you swap the frames? ie: Can you put the mod 2 slide on the original frame and vise versa?
No ya can't. Already tried it
I got my Springfield xds mod 1 for my 18th birthday and it is still my edc carry gun and I don’t think it will change anytime soon
That case for the mod2 is what my original came in.
Are kydex or any other solid type holster interchangeable with the Mod 2?
If I were to get the shapeshift kit for the XDS mod 1 will it fit the mod 2?
I just bought the shape shift for the xds 3.3 and it works just fine with the the xds mod 2
Will the XDS Mod 2 come with a stainless steel slide soon?
Hey,....who did your Marksman intro? Much thanks!
I know you said the base plate but you pointed at the sleeve so for clarification, did you mean that you have to remove the mag sleeve to fit the magazine on the mod 2 considering the flushed mag fits?
Yes. I am sorry I botched the terminology while filming. The standard (5 round cap mags) will swap between the two pistols without changing anything. The extended mags will not seat in each other due the magazine sleeves. If you remove the sleeves, they will fit. So if you have an XDS and you want to buy a XDS Mod 2, your XDS mag will fit the Mod 2, if you remove the sleeve. It will just be extending slightly below the base of the grip. If you purchase a Mod 2 extended magazine sleeve, it will fit right on and work just like the extended mag that comes with the Mod 2 in the box. Sorry for the confusion and I hope that helps.
Thanks for the video, mod 2 seems the way to go.
How is the recoil in a 45 in that small lite frame ?.
Recoil is pretty heavy. It takes considerable effort to reset back to target. That being said, once you get used to the recoil its still pretty violent. LOL
So are the slides interchangeable with both frames.
The old one looks way better
Are the xds 9 and mod 2 9 the same size/dimensions? Trying to figure it out for holster purchase.
Do they both use the same holster
Question can I put an xds mod two extended clip in the xds 3.3 45mm?
Well done video.
I love 45ACP, sweet back shock, but it's always the same trouble, short magasins, 6 or 7 rounds. 9 for Glock, if I remember. If I make a mistake, please tell me.
*10 + 1 for the smallest .45 glock frame, that being the glock 30. I own both guns and they are beasts.
Because of the chamber indicator on the Mod 1, am I correct that there isn’t enough room on the slide for a red dot?
Just picked up an XDS Mod2 3.3 .45 does it fit regular XDS 3.3 holsters? Apart from the 0.2 inch length difference I don’t see why it wouldn’t.
If the holster is a pass through it will. I doubt there kydek will
Great Review
The original XDS was recalled due to a possibility of unintended discharge when the slide moved forward. This could happen when chambering a round or after firing (double tap), and it happened to me once at the range. The gun was pointed downrange. Look for a pin in the backstrap safety. If there's a pin, as seen in this video and the following one, the gun is fixed. ruclips.net/video/IXppWF8rmgo/видео.html
I had no idea the original XDS was recalled. I bought one for my grandfather who isn't a gun guy. He was deathly afraid of a negligent/accidental discharge so he refused to carry with a round in the chamber when I gave him my old Walther PPS. The grip safety is the primary reason he decided to carry a round in the chamber and I need to break the news to him. Thanks for spreading awareness to this issue
Great useful commentary, thank you
Good vid. 😁
Does anyone know if an XDS mod 2 barrel can work safely in a regular XDS? Ive found a threaded barrel for an XDS mod 2, and was hoping it would fit my regular XDS .45
I think my most favorite thing about my XDS (my daily carry) is just the sheer amount of rounds I've out thru the thing without a single issue,
Ever.
I laugh when I think back on how at 19, I thought I was Billy Badass cuz I had myself a HiPoint😆
Thing would jam so often is was borderline outrageous! Lol
The 3.3" is absolutely perfect, for me.
I love how compact it is, and that with the holster I carry it in, I'm able to get to it extremely quick. With it so small, it feels like you could get a cpl good shots off, even if you and the other WERE that close.
Just my 2 cents.
I've been sold on it for a while, and its never let me down. I don't think I could find the kind of trust i have in it, if I carried something differently.
(As a daily)
Will the XD Mod.2, 13 round mag work for this? Springfield doesn't make that gun anymore but it's basically the same size. I have a Glock 30 with 13 extended mag but I need a backup handgun
Will the Mod 2 Slide fit and function on the original "mod 1" frame?
Do you know if the mod 2 and the original will fit in the same kydex holster?
I don't know about kydex holsters but I have the mod 2 and it fit the shapeshift holster from alien gear for the xds 3.3...hope this helps you out
Hello I just bought new xds and I think they gave me the crimson trace for the first model watched a few videos and seems like iim not having any luck matching up fit almost looks to big for new one
You shouldn't be allowed to possess a firearm. You can't even type proper sentences, with proper punctuation.
Nothing says stopping power like a .45 acp... would this be ok for conceal carry? Or do you think it's too big?
this is more than adequate for edc.
I saw someone had asked it and didn’t get an answer, so I’m going to ask again in hopes that someone sees it. Are the frames and slides interchangeable between the first gen and the mod 2’s? I have a XDS 4.0 first gen and would love to put that slide assembly on a mod 2 frame. But I have to admit, I really don’t feel like buying a mod 2 just to find out it doesn’t work...
It fits and cycles havent fired just yet . I did exactly what you are asking about
So the mod 2 is the way to go?
Has the jamming issue been corrected with the Mod 2 3.3 XD-S acp. 45 ??? ...the original acp .45 xd-s is junk!.... I replaced it with a GLOCK 30 Gen 4
Is the mag release button still impossible to press in?
Stephen Lozada mine is great.
Anyone with issues with their gen1 mags not sitting flush? Mine all have a several mm gap from the bottom of the handle/frame, and it's especially noticable with the extended mag I got for free when they did the recall work.
I am glad they redid the grip. I really don't like the original xds grip.
Me neither. It was too aggressive and made shooting the gun a chore.
I agree. While I've never fired the Mod 2 the Mod 1 grips really dig into my hand.
what diff does it make if you use the pistol in a self-defense situation? In such a case who cares about comfort. What u are about is that the gun not move in your hand, but cling to your hand. Reviewer didn't address that issue.
@@chmd22 I tend to disagree. I liked the reptile scale grip. My hands are rough and calliced though so maybe the roughness just doesn't affect my mits. To each their own, love the xds. An overbuilt powerhouse war pistol of the single stack World world
@@chmd22 those are literally the words I use to describe it! Wasnt sure if it was the .45 in such a compact package, or the Lego block grip, but it's a CHORE to shoot for any extended time at the range. Hindsight I wish I picked up there 9mm version.
They need to release the 9mm version.
A little late but was wondering if anyone knows if I can swap out the slide/barrel on my new xds 9mm mod 2 osp with the original slide and barrel combo from the original xds. My new osp has sights that suck, I much prefer the sights on the original. Thanks
i dumped my xds 45 when i realized the palm safety BARELY worked. question: can you mount an optic on the original?
The 9 is so snappy I couldn’t imagine shooting this in 45
I don't think the 9 is snappy at all.
Corey the XDs is not a smooth shooting gun by any means I would not recommend it to beginners who flinch and don’t have good trigger control even the 9mm. It’s reliable I’ve had it for 3 years now some mag issues but not firearm related.
@@Garebare1 I flinch bad and do very well with a xds 9 4.0
Corey my girlfriend cannot handle the 3.3 9mm she flinches very bad and she does very well with full sized handguns Bc they naturally shoot smoother so 🤷♂️
@@Garebare1 makes sense. The 4in barrel weights more and might be a better option
Excellent
Overpriced in my area,$525.00-up.The original(XD)line are a great buy,be it(9mm,40 S&W Or 45ACP)All models any size capacity/barrel length.$400-425.00
www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/mobile/search.php?q=Springfield+Xds+9mm
This is where I buy most of my new guns. They tend to have pretty good prices.
My gen one XDS 45 came with the large case
An odd discrepancy between your experience and mine. I got a XDS with the 3.3 inch barrel in 45 ACP within a few months of the handgun's initial release in 2012. The gearbox that came with my XDS 45 is the same size as the gearbox for my first generation XDM. It came with the Springfield OTB paddle holster and OTB dual mag carrier.
The grip has been modified, my XDS is still running on original parts.
If I "upgrade" to the Mod 2, hopefully I can use the same holsters I have?
You can I have both guns and they use the same holster
Is the mod 2 worth an extra hundred bucks?
I have kydex holster for XDS, can you help you do a unboxing video.
Will the kydex holsters be the same fit?
Have both versions of the gun. Would I do it again. F no. I've always been a SA fan and have owned so many. But I hate the triggers on the xds. Even with a precion river spring AND sear kit.
Can the 8 rd pro mag work with the mod 2?
Thanks for the video. :D
Has Springfield announced a 9mm XDS Mod. 2? I love the way my double stack grip feels, but always carry the s.
Rod Himelick I believe it just came out this month
Will barrels interchange??
Have they discontinued the standard model or are they going to discontinue the standard model in the near future ?
went to a local Academy storer today and they had one xds .45 on and it was on clearance for $450. Asked why it was the only on on sale and the manager said it was discontinued.
Crob 1k
Thank you for your time.
Anyone know if the slides are interchangeable?
Do they share the same barrel?
My xd mod 2 come with a 9 round mag and a 13 round mag why did yours come with so little rounds and inhave the subcompact mod 2
It's an xds not an xd. Xds is single stack
Question: can you shoot hollow points out of this pistol ? Thanks
Yes definitely. I never shot hollows out of mine but you definitely can.
Are these slides interchangeable?
Has anyone compared the internals of the xD vs xds? I have and if Sprinfield would make a full size double stack like the xds I'd own one. The XD has a chunky Center frame rail that is still in the back is plastic. That is one reason why it has a high bore axis. Also it is single action and the way in which the trigger works. The XDS has steel front and rear slide rails and the trigger Works more like a Glock partially cocked and slowly dropping
Why did the box double in size with less stuff?
RyanMiller3039 because America
RyanMiller3039 leftover boxes from the old full-size guns that never sold 😂
@@stephenlozada7158 looks like you're right...
Less stuff? It comes with a box of fresh Wyoming air.
If LAYS made guns
The XDS is better looking but the XDS mod 2 has a better grip. My girlfriend and I have both. I’d say the mod 2 is about 5% better in every category except grip. The grip is much better. That being said I also like the grip of the XDS.
Should show the sight pic of the mod pistol.
I'm sure the mod 2 feels 50percent better at the grip.
NeeFMandO cuz it says grip zone I bet.
