    Held both at the store yesterday...didnt like the Glock 23 in my hand. I have large hands and my fingers overlapped on the finger grooves to where it actually felt uncomfortable. Grabbed the XD 40 and what a difference! The grip feels fantastic and secure. Damn near perfect fit in my hand and that was the deciding factor in which one i went for.

    Thanks for the look. I like the Glock,too, but for another reason. Due to the grip safety, the length of pull never changes regardless of the backstrap. On the Glock, you can put the beaver tail backstrap on and get a little more distance from the trigger. Since I have long fingers, I need that little bit to help me stop pushing shots low and left. My Glock G22 is the second most accurate pistol with my shooting that I have. My Sig P229 in .40 edges it out. I really shoot .40 well!

  • @megastick9324
    @megastick9324 3 года назад +7

    I’ve shot both, also owned both in 9mm. To me, both great guns, the XD always felt a little more comfortable in my hands, the glocks I always had to re adjust my grip. So, from my perspective , the XD fits me better, so I shoot it better.
    No knock on glock at all. I’d never feel undergunned or such. It’s just a matter of ergonomics for me.
    I really don’t see one as “ better”, just preference.

    Both excellent firearms. I was looking to buy the 23 when the sales guy showed me the xd40, The grip was noticeably more to my liking, but what sold me was the price, I bought the bi-tone xd for over $100 less than the 23, having already researched the xd 'torture test" articles. Probably close to 5000 rnds through the xd by now with no problems.

      Tony Williams same here buddy. I went the Turners with intentions of buying the Glock 23
      (CA resident so it’s only 10rounds a mag. Rather have 10 in 40cal than 10 9mm)
      But It was gonna be my first gun for home defense & CC but just like you I’ve done my research on all the handguns in my price range & saw that torture test on the XD too, but for only 50$ more Than the Glock 23 with 2 mags I got the XD 40 geared up package with 5 magazines, hard & soft case, speed loader & holster which I couldn’t use being left handed but still I saved maybe over 200$ on those 3 extra mags & speed loader which runs about 30$. Also people who own an XD 40 or Glock 23 that it can very cheaply convert to a 9mm barrel which I’m gonna purchase for 169$ & just get some 9mm magazines. Fun project & saves money if I ever want a 9mm to practice with.

    I love Glocks but I’m sorry, I just love the hell out of the XD. Especially the XD 40 subcompact. You can’t beat the feel of a 40 XD subcompact with the added grip area provided by the 10+1 mag. It’s just a better firearm. Then you get the XD brand new, out the box, and you put more than $100 savings in your pocket to spend on a great holster or extra magazines or extra ammo OR TOWARDS A BATTLE RIFLE! The XD is just the best! They should be charging more for it than the Glock. BTW I absolutely adore Glocks but the XD 40 is just the better choice all the way around. The quality is exceptional!

  • @WillyTheScotchMan
    @WillyTheScotchMan 4 года назад +6

    Glock comes with polymer guide rod and polymer Factory sights unless upgraded. Glocks have a very squishy trigger and even for polymer guns. XD are heavier because they have a steel guide rod, beefier slide rails, Steel mag release and thicker polymer. XD mags eject a lot faster than Glocks in my experience the Palmer on the Glock mags imho don't eject has fast and can even slightly hang up which is why most people do tactical mag flips with the Glocks.

    Gotta admit love watching you do those two handed firing scenes, so badass. I really wanna practice doing that. I already own the XD 40 & was very very close to getting the Glock 23 & that day at the gun shop/Turners I actually intended on buying a Glock 19 or the 23 cause in CA it’s only 10 a mag so, off the bat I was set on a 40 cal, but when I saw that Springfield which I already knew from research was just as great of a fire arm had the gear up package which was 5 Magazines, hard & soft case, speed loader, and since I’m a lefty the holster they gave was useless but still a lot of stuff for my buck I’m so happy for this review and confirming my purchase cause I am very happy with my XD 40. I shoot it very well cause it’s my only EDC & home protection pistol atm.
    But do plan on getting a Glock 23 still then buy a converter 9mm barrel for both my XD 40 & Glock 23 so I have that option to switch either one out. On top it just sounds like a very cool project being able to have either Glock 9mm & XD 40 or vice versus.
    Thanks for the upload!

    When I went to buy my first carry gun in 2004 I went with the 23. I still to this day carry that gun. I will probably carry it as long as I live simply because when I reach for it I know how it's going to feel before my hand ever touches it. It has been very reliable and I have put some crappy ammo through it. Does that mean that there aren't better or at least equally good options out there? Of course not. It is just what I'm used to and has earned my trust with it's rock solid reliability. I like most guns. I'm a gun guy so I like to shoot almost all of them. That being said I don't really understand why a striker fired pistol like the XD-40 requires a grip safety. Just seems like an extra feature that could possibly fail or keep you from firing if you had your hands injured in some sort of attack and couldn't get a proper grip. This is a very detailed video of both guns. Thanks for taking the time to put this together Justin Opinion

    • @JustinOpinionChannel
      @JustinOpinionChannel  9 лет назад +2

      Buffalo Thanks for the great comment! I agree with the unnecessary nature of the grip safety. Not a big deal for me really, but your point about another possible failure point is a valid one. I suspect that it was either due to a regulation (don't know Croatian regs) or someone trying to be proactive in the event of same... but it really adds no real value. You made a heck of a good choice in 2004, and I can't think of a single reason to tell you to reconsider it! Like you though, I'm a gun guy and I love to shoot 'em all!

    I have an XD and a Gen 4 Glock 22. Now before I go on, I will say this, I have always been an XD fan over the Glock due to the straight up and down grip angle of the Glock. But, since the coming of the gen 4 in Glock with the re adjusted grip angle and the 1911 style back strap on, I find the two so close in comparison that I can not tell much of a TRUE difference in the two. Most people will choose one over the other due to name brands but, truly as far as shooting the two goes, there's virtually no difference to me. You talked about the take down lever being abrasive on your thumbs, I too am a thumbs forward shooter and I personally have not had an issue with that. My thumb actually covers the majority of the lever so that does not bother me. In my opinion overall, I still lean a bit more towards the XD. Just my opinion. Oh yeah, how bout those flyers you had there on both targets! LOL Just curious, how many yards away was you? Great video by the way.

    You neglected one major comparison; stuffing it in your holster with an obstruction in the trigger guard, say, your shirt tail (this does happen to everyone at least once in your lifetime). On the Glock, an accidental discharge is imminent, risking life and limb. On the XD, so long as your hand is not depressing the grip safety, no worries. Advantage: XD, for the win, because what good is a gun that is a statistically insignificantly more accurate, carries a round or two more in the magazine(the XD-M has one round more than the 23), has the optional tritium sights (that are available on the XD as well), if it will shoot you if you make one inadvertent mistake. Also, this was an apples vs. oranges comparison: they should both be similarly optioned and with similar features. An XD-M with similar features as the Glock tested would be about the same price; the difference would be barrel length, and magazine capacity.

    • @JustinOpinionChannel
      @JustinOpinionChannel  8 лет назад +2

      +efredfarm That's like saying falling off a ladder or crashing into a school bus are things that "happen to everyone at least once...". I take holstering a handgun seriously and when I do, that task has my full attention. I've gone this far without snagging my clothing - but as an S.O. I've seen many folks come close (and would have, had I not stopped them). So your point has some merit, but I still feel strongly that WE are responsible for firearm safety - not the firearms.

    Great and fun comparison video.
    23 or 19? 23 or 19?
    Decisions, decisions! I'll probably go with a 19 as my next purchase even though the 23 with a 9mm barrel and mags makes a very versatile handgun.
    I have to sell my XD9sc first, its been a great gun (one of my CCW) and never had a failure, I'm pretty accurate with it at defense distances but gun guys are just like this some times. Get extra mags, a couple holsters, go through qualifying with it, carry it for a few trouble free years and decide to make a change. LOL

    The rear sight on that Springfield XD is *NOT* a "polymer" sight. The Springfield XD comes with fully dovetailed, steel, low-profile, 3-dot sights, that Springfield claims will "outlive your grandchildren's kids". Unlike the OEM polymer plastic sights that come on a Glock 23, which only uses a dovetail to secure the rear plastic sight and simply uses a tiny set screw to secure the front plastic sight.

    In my opinion, this was not quite a fair comparison. I consider the G23 a carry pistol and the XD-40 a range pistol. Cool shirt!

    • @JustinOpinionChannel
      @JustinOpinionChannel  9 лет назад

      I think the G23 certainly is considered a carry gun without even thinking about it (and it is), but I still think the XD40 is right there with it. Slightly larger in some of the key areas, but in my experience just as reliable and accurate. Choices are good!! Yeah, it is a great shirt. I have to thank the awesome folks at Talon Gun Grips for that!

    Why did you bother to measure your groups? Both guns, at 8 yards in a ransom rest, will punch one ragged hole.
    This simply shows your ability, and your's alone, shooting both guns, and that you tend to operate a bit better using the glock.
    I can punch golf balls at 30 yards off a bench with a glock, but cannot shoot my XD45 even close to as accurate. I've been shooting glocks so long, that the trigger on the XD feels like a foreign object, feels very heavy but crisp, and I have a wrist malfunction it feels like, when the trigger breaks on the XD45.
    Glock trigger and the SMACK reset, positive reset stop and immediate trigger re-engagement are superior by far on the Glock.
    The XD needs some major trigger work to make it similar to a glock.. however, I think the end result with a trigger kit you can get a superior trigger to what you can get in a glock..
    They're totally different designs. One thing you definitely should have shown when comparing, the XD's rear rails are not metal like Glock... they are polymer only. I don't think the rear rail will ever give out, but it may decrease gradually over time, changing the slide lockup, thus gradually the gun will become less and less accurate over time .. (not proven, just a hypothesis) Cheers.

    • @n300zx931
      @n300zx931 8 лет назад

      I had an XD that was laser accurate and over 15,000 rounds. no noticeable wear to the rear guides. I don't think they have to do much or anything because of the size and length of the main locking block section. and yes, both guns will drill a hole in the target at 10yards.

    • @JustinOpinionChannel
      @JustinOpinionChannel  8 лет назад

      +Jake Bob That's true, and I often make the disclaimer "from this shooter, on this day". Just about every gun I own can outshoot me any day - but ergonomics and trigger feel, how they shoot if I'm tired or having an off day, all those things matter to me more than how it looks in a Ransom rest. It's not meant to be a scientific comparison.

Between all of them, I can safely say I’ve shot over 100K reloads. Granted, I do purchase lead rounds covered in HiTek coating. But I’ve never experienced any issue whatsoever.
      I will say this though.. I do clean my firearms Religiously after every session at the range

    I was neutral on both until you pointed out that magazine release. There is no way I would carry the XD for that very reason. It is a good gun but I'd keep it at home and carry something else. For me that mag release is a deal breaker. I wouldn't mind the lever for the slide being there but that mag release button is all wrong for me. If I have to adjust my grip to drop a mag in a hurry I would just assume carry something that better fits my hand.

    WTF...just plain wrong, I've had 4 XD 40s, ALL HAD STEEL SIGHTS, my old Glock 20, 10mm had plastic sights, you're just plain wrong...MAYBE with those night sights, which look like Meprolights, those are steel, standard Glocks ALL HAVE PLASTIC SIGHTS!!! My XD defender costs $335, what about the Glock?? Most of your pro-Glock points are picky, BUT as a Glock-salesman, you join the "I-Hate-XD's" group.... I've never seen such outright HATE against a fine product as against the XD!! You join that chorus!! Quit pretending you don't!! LOBL

    • @stanleypost49
      @stanleypost49 2 года назад

      Originally I forgot your NOT MENTIONING the XD STANDARD ambidextrous mag releases as you made such a BIG POINT of you not liking the XD mag release... like most other manufactures only allow SILLY SWAPPING release sides, which can't be done in battle, JUST USELESS, compared to always ready ambidextrous XD releases!!
      You fumble with "XDM your still short of a Glock capacity" which is true of a XD BUT not an XDM!!
      You SKIP XD's most unique feature, very simple and overlooked since NO ONE ELSE HAS IT: "Muzzle Protector" which keeps slide in battery even though pressed against a captive's back... like a revolver... more needed for self protection than other areas!!
      Also you neglect to mention Glock's plastic guide rod; disturbingly my G20 rod ALWAYS moved out of alignment everytime I dismantled the gun, unlike XD's. Just how long will that thin plastic hold together out of alignment under the pressure of the guide spring???
      Next is the Glock unnatural pointing qualities unlike the 1911, Hi-power, Sig, XD, etc.
      What's this; you do not measure out the smaller XD headshot group, just the Glock???

      SAVAGE ROOKIE The G19/23 are equally at home as a service/open carry and a CCW. Just note it being chosen by Seals and Marine Socom units. It was outwardly stated by both units that the G19/23 size was chosen for it's adaptability in either role. Nothing wrong with an XD at all and I really like it but the Glock is more flexible and get's the gold star in that aspect. Enjoy either one (or both) with no apologies. Be safe out there.

    Glock gets it right Before any comparisons start. By that I mean Glock has the size to weight ratio down pat. No comparison in my humble opinion. After that you can throw in the other advantages. after-market stuff, parts,if you should ever need them, the AK of handguns thing (reliability). I would recommend the g32 & g33 though. 357sig is hard to beat, there again in my humble opinion. By the way when can we expect a 32-33 review?
