Nice! where (town/city) were you staying? My first and last stay there was in1976 and my stay (2-3months) was mainly in Otavalo. Met some great travelers from around the world there.

@@2freakout Wow. I never meet anyone who has lived in Ecuador! I was there for 3 months, and lived in Quito. I wish I knew which area though. I never returned but recently have been going on a deep dive of memories. Unfortunately, I did not travel much there, but I am thankful the family I lived with took me to Otavalo, Bańos, Riobamba etc. I LOVED the food!!

@@staceys1870 Yeah! Lovely and beautiful memories. I landed in Quito in early February 1976; came from Brazil where I had travelled around (a huge fantastic country). I spent a night in Quito (I can't remember where in Quito) and the next day hit the road to the town of Otavalo which was recommended to me by an English guy I met on the street.
I lose contact with all the folks I met during my stay in Otavalo. I was perhaps the only foreigner at the time who wore the indigenous clothing of Otavalo (white pants just below the knees and a colored waist band. I still have the colorful waist band after moving like more than 20 times around the world.
      Beautiful, lovely, and warm memories.
PS: The English guy who I met on the street in Quito was living in Otavalo. He was then married to an Ecuadorian girl who was at the time pregnant. During my 2-3 months stay there he had opened a vegetarian restaurant. I still think of him and wonder how they are doing. Unfortunately, I have no address. It's 48 yrs ago.

@@2freakout Thank you again for sharing your memories!! If we only had documented more back then, but maybe it is better we just have the images and feelings in our minds. I do wish I had asked questions though. I never wanted to come across the rude American, and I would just go with the flow. Amazing how you still have the colored waistband still!! Do you have a travel blog or other channel? I wish I could say I traveled so extensively, but I just did not have the "kind of family/nor the means" to keep going. More so, the kind of family. They were not adventurous whatsoever and I was. As great as they were, it brought me down. Anyways, we did have an exchange student live with us in 78 from São Paulo. She is still in touch w/us and visited a few years ago. I have never been to Brasil though. Sorry to write so much, but how cool your spent that time in Otavalo. I vaguely remember going to a friend of my Ecuadorian family's home near or in Otavalo. Wowwww...it was truly something. Maybe it was some sort of hacienda I think. Please write a book or a blog!

@@staceys1870 You piece of story tells me a lot and it also brings back many flash backs of my travels. Generally, we have to count our blessings for it could have been worst. I was traveling without money from North to South of Brazil. I begged, slept on the streets, and worked a little during my 5 months stay there. I didn't make notes and I didn't have a camera. When I looked back on that dangerous adventure, I wanna think I was loco and was not in my right mind. Folks helped me along the way in whatever small way they could have and I can never thank them enough for their help. Unfortunately, I have no contact with anyone of them.
To answer your question. No, I don't have a blog or a you tube channel and sorry I don't plan to start one either. I never went public with my experience. A friend who knew I traveled suggested I watch the movie, Jungle. After watching later, I got the book and read it twice. Touching and sad end. That triggered the opening of my long locked/closed memory box and I went Googling and ended up on you tube. So I am kinda reliving a long gone era in a new era.
Glad ours memories are ours to keep no one can steal them. I did lose some as I can't seem to remember somethings and all the details.
