Just installed this on my friends Tacoma, and we did it in roughly an hour. The new version comes with provided plastic tabs, so no drilling is required. This is stupid easy to do.

THANK YOU! This was a very informative video. The R4T kit that I received didn't have any instructions or references to online instructions.
My kit did include replacement clips for the tailgate and bed - so drilling the existing clips was unnecessary. A note for other viewers: the zip ties are not included. There was also a small hardware bag that included two lock washers and a bolt and lock nut that I had no idea where it was supposed to be used,

Same here. Got extra clips with holes already. Bought the zip ties. The screw with the lock washers and the nut, stays in the bag. I’ve no clue what to do with it.

I installed my today. The installation is as easy as the video shows. Everything works flawlessly. I watched this video about 3 times before I started though to be sure I followed all the steps. The plug-and-play harness makes this so much better than having to splice wires. When you are drilling the holes in the plastic clips in the bed...hold on tight to them while drilling.

Just installed mine. With help of spousal unit. Got it for Father’s Day. Was pretty straightforward. I have a bad leg do she did all under truck stuff. Worked right off. Mine was also an apparently even more updated version with new plastic wire brackets. No drilling required. Great product and great price.

Just got done installing this and super happy with it!
As the previous post, the video is great.
One thing I’d suggest is the grommet underneath the carpet is very soft and easily removed and reinstalled so I was able to shove the wires in one at a time. I just didn’t want to make a hole in it.
I plan on routing my CB antenna cable and power for other accessories later on.
    Again, a great product!

Just wanted to say what a helpful video this was. I ordered this kit last Saturday and it was delivered this morning. Using this video as a guide, I managed to install this in my 2017 in less than 90 minutes. From the service to the quick delivery to the well organized installation video, these guys sure know how to treat their customers. And the fact that they support and honor the military has made me a lifelong customer. Great job!

Just installed this on my '19 and this video made it super easy. It took roughly an hour to complete. The two included pieces for the tailgate and truck bed made it so I didn't need to drill holes in the original ones. The lock washer was a great added bonus. Thank you for making the informative video and a great product.

Fantastic product, but wanted to include my installation experience for anyone who may find it useful.
My kit arrived with the uppermost aluminum arm being installed incorrectly. The arm was installed on the “top” of the actuator arm instead of the correct orientation on the bottom of the actuator arm. Easy enough to fix with a wrench and screwdriver, but again wanted to share my experience.
Not too sure if this is a QC issue, but otherwise very satisfied with my purchase. Cheers R4T.

Ordered it, got it a couple of days ago, installed this morning. Very easy install (thank you for the video) very happy with it. The piece of mind and convenience was worth the $141 (sales tax/shipping). I have the Pace-Edward role bed cover, nice to know I can secure gear. (I know if they want it, they’ll get into it, but they’re gonna have work at it). One thing I did that isn’t in the video was to check the connectors on the harness before the install to ensure they were secure beforehand. Well worth, thank you R4T!

I just installed this kit. I could see that I needed more clearance to fit the wire protectors at the tailgate and the bed. I rigged a small platform with a piece of plywood and a bench. The plywood rested on the bumper and the bench. I partially removed the tailgate on the passenger side, angled it rearward several inches, and laid it on the platform. The extra three inches of space made this part of the job much easier.

FYI, mine came with the top aluminum bracket mounted to the right side of the plunger instead of the left side so it wouldn’t line up with the black tabs. It’s very simple to swap it to the correct side but just be aware of this if it isn’t lining up for you. After that everything worked perfectly.

Just got mine installed. Installation went well. Mine came with a few extra parts. Mine included the two plastic wire holders with holes for two wires. One for the tailgate and one for the bed. These replaced the ones that you drill through. My kit also had an extra bolt along with a nut. Also had two pushnuts. Wasn't sure what these were for. I used one of the pushnuts on the plastic pin that the actuator attaches to. Looked like the actuator could come off the stud pretty easily. I think the pushnut will hold this on well.

Nice product. I hope you guys used a better actuator than pop and lock did. I'm in Canada and below -23C or so, the pop and lock actuator doesn't have enough toque to lock and unlock. No other actuators in my Tacoma or any other vehicle I've owned has ever given me cold weather problems. $150 system and pop and lock gave us a $15 amazon actuator.
One questions I have is are you guys concerned with galvanic corrosion from mating aluminum components to steel over time? I this scenario, the galvanic tables say the steel tail gate is going to lose and corrode.

I'll start by saying I'm a former mechanic... Received my order yesterday, today I installed and it was very simple, plug and play kits are amazing because of all the hassle it saves. But I ran into issues.
I installed the actuator and ran the wire loom to the front passenger kick panel with ease. Took me maybe 15 mins. Went to plug in the harness and noticed it wasn't clicking in with that oddly satisfying "click," I removed it tried again and nothing. Then inspected it and saw that the harness plug and the receiver slots in the plug had damage... (I ended up fixing this myself) now I went to plug in the blue and green wire from the harness to the wire loom.. the blue wire connector came right out of the blue wire in my hand, it was barely crimped down. Again I had to fix this, cut back the shrink tubing and reconnect the wire to the terminal end... now I spent an extra few minutes having to correct these issues but thats me, a former mechanic. Most folks buying a plug and play kit is looking for it to be just that and also looking for a quality item. I love supporting local US businesses but I'd like to see better quality control. As a small business owner now myself I can tell you my customers and most customers will prefer quality over quantity. Please inspect your items before shipping them out. I would've returned this item but I'm heading on a road trip and I really wanted this to work so I fixed it myself.
FYI my feedback is not to bash your business but to genuinely help you be better. And for others to learn from my mistakes... properly inspect your items before starting your installs.
    Best of luck.

I installed the Pop & Lock kit back in 2018 on your suggestion. I have enjoyed the security of knowing the tailgate locks along with the doors. With that said, I absolutely hate the sound level this kit produces. What assurance can you offer that your product is better?
On another note, have you experienced the “Brake Override Malfunction” yet on your machines? I was trail riding on some 4x4 NC Forest Service trails last weekend when this light came on. At the time my Roll/Pitch gauge read 25 pitch, so I pressed on and finally arrived at our camp site. After turning the truck off my Tacoma locked in park and would not restart with the OEM button. Although I could still remotely start. Long story short, STOP 10a fuse blown. Changed and was good to go.

We are thinking about offering the tailgate actuator by itself to make it quieter

Hey man, just finished the install and the lock works perfect. Only down side is my passenger window won’t roll down anymore. Tried re-doing the process exactly according to the video and still not working. Any idea why this may be happening?
Also for clarity, when I replaced the original OEM connector back to the kick panel without the connect I purchased, the window rolled down no problem.
Not sure if maybe the connector is faulty but when it’s plugged in the tailgate works fine but my passenger window won’t roll down.
    Suggestions?

The connector has to be bad. Contact runnin4tacos and let us know if they send you a new one. Curious as to how their customer service is.

@@superserial1 They swapped it out within the week. Switched the connector and both the lock and window are working perfectly. Great customer service experience on my end.

@Taco Twonz will you be making an application for the 2nd Gen? The 2nd Gen doesn’t get any love at all. I just picked up a 2013. Fingers crossed you will.

Can you guys offer just the plug and play harness? Many of us don't need the loom, connectors or servos. Prefer not to tap into stock harness too!
