Hi everyone! I just posted an update video where I tried to answer common questions (overheating, adapter quality, other dash cam compatibility, etc) about this mod, and talked about how it has held up after a few months in my truck. Check out the video here if you'd like: ruclips.net/video/MwNLKwH8R3g/видео.html Thanks for watching! ❤️
Aim the camera down a bit more, so not as much of the sky is in it, this will help the camera adjust it's white balance for the road & cars rather than the sky.
I just bought a Taco (yay) and this very idea. It’s amazing how so many problems have happened to somebody else who also posted a great solution for it online.
This is an awesome product. Installed one in my 22 Tacoma TRD Sport, worked perfectly! Just ordered one for my wife's 2015 RDX now that the adaptor for her SUV is back in stock.
This is amazing! I did the USB cable tucked in the headliner, down the A-pillar, under the dash and into a USB port in the center console, but after seeing this video... game changer :) Thanks for sharing this.
Great video. Thanks. Seeing the sand Taco...I had no idea that there was a Tacoma community...it is great. I have lived overseas for too long. Need to get back stateside now and get a Tacoma. Cheers.
Chloe, I took you advice and installed this same system. And….a MillerCat Shield. Love your ideas and the Dongar is a breeze. Thanks Your channel is the best. Scott M
I'm glad I came across your channel. I own a 2015 and after watching a few of your videos I've been eyeing a few parts to upgrade my truck. That little adapter is something that I will probably end up making for my truck to run my dash cam
Hey Chloe , Everyone does not have a power setup behind their rear view mirror and also the dash cam is great unless you get hit from the rear or the sides, then it still becomes a my word against theirs battle, I recommend the Vantrue N2 Pro The camera views the front, Back, and Side windows and you can also see what you were doing at the time of the accident.
Nice plug and play intro video. I do say that having a dash cam these days is a must have. I love that there is a power source via an adapter that's readily available, makes doing this so much easier. As for the seat patterns, I like the dark perforated leather (third from the bottom). Thanks Chloe and please keep up with content, its much appreciated.
Have you tried the newly released Garmin Mini 2? I tried going online to see what’s different between the Mini and the Mini 2, but I can’t find anything. Maybe you can make a comparison video or share what’s new in the Mini 2? Love your videos! Just got a 21 Tacoma Off-Road 3 weeks ago and as my first truck watching your videos have been so helpful.
Chloe, thank you for posting this video. I've been looking for a dashcam with a small footprint and simple wiring system. This setup looks to be the answer.
Thanks for the info in this video Chloe, I was just about to start running the 500ft :) dash cam cord in my 4Runner when I came across your video. I ordered an adapter. Hope to get it this weekend. Thanks again.
Thanks for the video; bought the mini and the Dongar Technologies device; it fit and worked in my Ford F-150 (16-pin connector) thanks again for the helpful video; live long and prosper!
In the beginning of the video, you mentioned that somebody hit your truck from what I gathered it sounded like it was parked, please correct me if I’m incorrect. Does this camera work while the vehicle is off?
Super clean . thanks! It's my opinion everyone should have a dash camera that faces the driver. Police are more likely to remain the polite professionals they are if they know they are being recorded. And you have proof of having a seat belt on or not being on your phone.
Thank you very much for your recommendation! I have purchased two Dongar adapters from Amazon, and they are compatible with both my 2017 Tacoma and 2019 Sienna. They have been used to power dashcam. This mirror to dashcam adapter is plug and play, I like it very much.
Thanks for posting this video. I had no idea those adapters are available. Just got mine from your link and installed it today. Much better without the hanging cable.
Nice Video Chloe. The street view of the camera was pretty good. I have used a dash cam in my vehicle for over 4 years. I recorded my first crash between a motorcycle fleeing police and a young couple going to dinner. Had a few close calls but I am happy that I have had a camera in use, but never needed it yet. Thank you for the info. Very informative. Keep it up.
I bought one for my daily driver to try out simply because of the small form factor. You are right, the video is quite good, but reading licence plates unless they are right in front of you, is a challenge. If I like it, I'll stick one in the front and back of my Porsche. I like the synch function and again, the small form factor.
The sample in the middle..the carbon fiber looking one looks pretty nice. Sporty and a nice contrast to your interior color. Btw, you’re doing thoughtful mods without going overboard. Continue having fun with your Taco!
Smart choice 👍question ? Do u think this type of the cameras can get overheated in extreme hot weather or no like summer time in NV Or AZ and how many hours can recording ? Good luck 😎
I'm sure it overheats in extreme conditions, although I don't know the exact temperature specs. Mine's been doing well in San Diego, CA so far though. The # of hours for recording depends on the size of your SD card. Thanks for watching 😊
Since it piggybacks off the auto-dimming mirror, I'm assuming the camera is only on while the truck is on too? This is a great setup, but I would like the dashcam to record 24/7 even when the truck is off.
Love your reviews; concise and succinct. Extremely informative. Quick question on the Dash Cam Mini. Any problems with overheating? There have been several complaints on over-heating when used in conjunction with parking mode. Looking at adding this mod to my Tacoma.
hello Chloe, great videos. I have a few dash cams on my cars and pick-up, always annoyed by the dangling wires, the latest dash cam I bought for my 16 Taco has a mile long wire, been putting off installing the dash cam due to this issue, but thanks to your video, my dangling wire issues is solved with your lead . thanks again. keep up the great work. BTW, try lifting off the gas pedal when the tach gets to 1800 rpms every gear, this will help to shift up to 6th gear much sooner when freeway driving, and you should get over the 22-24 mpg range, maybe better with the air filter mod your taco have.
That’s awesome! Thank you very much for the tips. I’ve been looking at dash cams but don’t like the dangling cords. I just looked at my 4Runner mirror and it looks like I can get this set up! Thanks again!!!! Nice truck by the way!
I am planning to buy this product after I saw your video. I also have a Tacoma and I think this dash cam is perfect for it. But some reviews from Amazon are really really bad and I have a second thought of buying it. What is the pros and cons you experienced with this product so far, and is the Dongar adapter really needed for this set-up? Thank you and it's nice video by the way!
Are you able to do an update on this video. I was thinking about getting one, but havnt read good things. I like the how small it is and the video quality seems reasonable enough to just get the job done.
Question for you or anyone really. I saw on Garmin that you are able to have up to 4 cameras. I love how small it is and the quick Dongar connect. I'd love to have one facing the rear of the truck also. Do you know if there is any way to do the same setup, only for the rear window area? I know they make front and rear camera, but then it couldn't be behind the drivers mirror, and would need line of sight access to front and rear, placing it more out in the open, which I'm trying to avoid. TIA :)
Chloe, excellent install. I have a 2017 Tacoma sport long bed and have been adding a few things now. One thing I have done is add sound deading in the doors and better speakers than stock. Huge difference. Quiet like a car. All your videos are well done and entertaining beside useful. By the the way, what type of engineer are you?
Just got my truck and have been looking forward to this install.. but the dongar adapter is sold out on amazon and their own website! Any where else to buy this?
That is a slick setup!! Never knew about the Dongar adapter. Just ordered mine and decided to go with your model camera as well. Thanks for sharing, Chloe!! 🙌🏼
Love your videos. Clear and to the point - and I can understand you. As young as you are, you are very knowledgeable. Will definitely get this. BTW, your next project as mentioned, I recommend the black and gray one in the center that looks like scales of a snake. Looks cool!

Thanks for watching! ❤️
It only works when the ignition is on right?
I take it this camera isn’t for a vehicle that doesn’t have wires running to the back of the rear view mirror????
@@fireinthehole72 The camera would work, but would need wired differently.
Bet u wouldn't be saying that if she was a dude!
dammit Chloe, every time I watch one of your videos I end up buying something new for my truck. Good video
I had no idea they made an adapter like that! I bought one immediately, and just connected it this morning. Thanks for the great tip!
Oh wow! I just got a dashcam and I was going to hide the wires in the paneling. This is much easier! Thanks .
Aim the camera down a bit more, so not as much of the sky is in it, this will help the camera adjust it's white balance for the road & cars rather than the sky.
I’ve got a 2019 SR5 and have had a dash cam just sitting around for months because of the wiring headache. This is a huge help!
I just bought a Taco (yay) and this very idea. It’s amazing how so many problems have happened to somebody else who also posted a great solution for it online.
i would recommend getting the Garmin Polarized Lens Cover, it helps with the glare from the sunlight.
Perfect, thanks! Was delaying this project because I wanted to route the wires so they are unseen, this will make it much easier and cleaner!
That first footage of highway is a outstanding scenery!!
@3:50 You drove by my house when you drove past Miramar road! “Hi Chloe!” 🙋🏽♂️
I knew I should have just come here first before searching all over the Internet. Thanks again Chloe!!! You are the best!🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
This is AWESOME! I will be doing this asap. I wish the backup camera was this high of resolution.
Great video. Thanks. Seeing the sand Taco...I had no idea that there was a Tacoma community...it is great. I have lived overseas for too long. Need to get back stateside now and get a Tacoma. Cheers.
Sooo dope I just got my adapter for my tacoma 2 days ago looks soooo clean gracias for the info and where to get them 👏
Chloe, I took you advice and installed this same system. And….a MillerCat Shield. Love your ideas and the Dongar is a breeze. Thanks
Your channel is the best. Scott M
Wish my Frontier had the aftermarket support of the Tacoma. Luckily the 2003-2019 4runner adapter worked with my Frontier. Love your vids.
That is clean, no messy wires. That’s my next mod ASAP
Too much for an adapter. Use hardwire kit for $12 and hardwire into the fuse box.
This is great. I've been reluctant to install my dashcam power wire and this is an elegant solution.
I appreciate this, had someone cut me off today and I said “I need a dash cam” this is awesome.
Cleanest and easiest install i have seen. Carbon fiber seats looks interesting. Never seen that
Wow this is the first time I’ve seriously considered getting a dash cam. I’m always looking around for little mods. Thanks Chloe!
I'm glad I came across your channel. I own a 2015 and after watching a few of your videos I've been eyeing a few parts to upgrade my truck. That little adapter is something that I will probably end up making for my truck to run my dash cam
This will be perfect for my challenger. I'm trying to keep everything as clean looking as possible. Thanks for the video.
I just ordered the adapter and camera.......thanks Chloe for the info! Stay safe out there on the road!

good to see SD roads! v.useful Tacoma videos on your channel. thinking about getting the off-road version
Love how u own one taco, also love how simple and low key the dash set up is. Thanks for making dis video and linking da thingz

No, but I think that would make a great video! I've heard good things about the Garmin Mini 2!
Excellent job, very informative.
That little adaptor is going in my cart in about 5 min thanks for the info
I have a 2020 trd offroad with the new lights im always giving and recieving thumbs up. Tacos owners are super chill.
Thank you
How is the quality at night??
I found your channel you are very good on explaining how to put mods on thank you chloe keep more videos coming
This was so easy to do. Thank you for making this vid. You saved me tons of time and money. Great mod. Cheers.
Thanks for the video chloe! Will add a dash cam to my car 🫡
Will this work when the truck is off? That would be helpful for filming any accidents when parked
Awesome setup, I was about to buy the parking mode cable and thankfully I see your video in time!
Just got a 2021 tacoma sport and I really enjoy your videos
Thanks for the video; bought the mini and the Dongar Technologies device; it fit and worked in my Ford F-150 (16-pin connector) thanks again for the helpful video; live long and prosper!

Love the set up of the dashcam, clean and without the annoying wires, Be well always Chloe😊❤
Wow a mod like this exists. Thank you so much for this.
Dang I've had dash cams for years and this would be awesome. Thanks!
Thank you very much for your recommendation! I have purchased two Dongar adapters from Amazon, and they are compatible with both my 2017 Tacoma and 2019 Sienna. They have been used to power dashcam. This mirror to dashcam adapter is plug and play, I like it very much.

That's so cool I really like the way you set up the camera
Chloe you are killing me with the mods. I love them all and I am getting most of them
The sample in the middle..the carbon fiber looking one looks pretty nice. Sporty and a nice contrast to your interior color. Btw, you’re doing thoughtful mods without going overboard. Continue having fun with your Taco!
That adapter is very cool! Makes things clean and easy for install!
I just got a 22 tacoma. old video but I like the fact that it is wire free.
Smart choice 👍question ? Do u think this type of the cameras can get overheated in extreme hot weather or no like summer time in NV Or AZ and how many hours can recording ? Good luck 😎

My Taco is too old for this mod but I did like the video and the way the content was presented so I definitely gave it a thumbs up.
hi Chloe, is the micro USB cable can be bought anywhere? Thank you for all your videos. stay safe always....
Update on the durability of the mini 2? Thinking of getting the mini 3
Did you get the polarized lens? I hear it’s a must have. Thx for the video.
It would be nice to know on which make and models this application works on! I guess you could check the manufacturer.
Great hack! I didn't want to have to run all of those wires. Thank you
Seat Colors/Patterns? Are you upgrading to leather? If so where are you getting them from? Thx!
Chloe, Will the adapter from Dongar Tech work with my 2021 TACO? Thank You Jim
Excellent video of a great product idea. I'm ordering one because it eliminates the clutter that I don't like. I have the same dash cam. Thanks!
Love your reviews; concise and succinct. Extremely informative. Quick question on the Dash Cam Mini. Any problems with overheating? There have been several complaints on over-heating when used in conjunction with parking mode. Looking at adding this mod to my Tacoma.
Question ?
The dash camera also recording when is off? Or just when you driving , thanks !!
Very timely. Was considering a dash cam. Just need to know if it will work through my tinted windshield. Thanks
This is cool! I use a Harmon dash cam and hate seeing the wires, also just got a 2019 trd off-road, gonna look into this set up.
Hey! Another local San Diegan Tacoma channel. Nice! I recognized La Jolla and Mira mesa instantly.
great idea. unfortunately I don't have a self dimming rear view mirror so not power. Still looking for power ideas.
does the adapter uses powder from the vehicle's battery? I know you said uses power from the mirror or somrhintg like that
Are you still using the dash cam. How is it holding up. I have seen mixed reviews recently.
Cool little adapter. I wish I had known about it before I hard wired my dash cam.
Did anyone mount the Garmin mini 2 to the tacoma GoPro windshield mount?
hello Chloe, great videos. Good call, will give this a go.
Awesome! Chloe can you give me an idea for a rear facing camera now?! 🙏🏼
That’s awesome! Thank you very much for the tips. I’ve been looking at dash cams but don’t like the dangling cords. I just looked at my 4Runner mirror and it looks like I can get this set up! Thanks again!!!! Nice truck by the way!
Does this adapter run constant power to the dash cam? or does it only turn on when the truck is on?
Just got mine and I love it. Thank you Chloe!
This was a great video. Went right out and got this setup. Thank you!
Slick idea! Not finding one of these for my 2005 Chevy Silverado.
I am planning to buy this product after I saw your video. I also have a Tacoma and I think this dash cam is perfect for it. what dash cam are you using to record the rear view? also looks like San Diego

Quality looks terrific in my opinion. Great info and review.
Just got my truck and have been looking forward to this install.. but the dongar adapter is sold out on amazon and their own website! Any where else to buy this?
Will this work on a 13 chevy silverado? If not can you point me to one that would?
Thank you.
That is a slick setup!! Never knew about the Dongar adapter. Just ordered mine and decided to go with your model camera as well. Thanks for sharing, Chloe!! 🙌🏼
I know you've already moved on to a Scoche unit but was wondering where you got the super short power cable for the Garmin Mini 2?
Love your videos. Clear and to the point - and I can understand you. As young as you are, you are very knowledgeable. Will definitely get this. BTW, your next project as mentioned, I recommend the black and gray one in the center that looks like scales of a snake. Looks cool!
Love your mods & videos Chloe! Thanks✌🏼
